Empfang unfreundlich und unmotiviert. Ungepflegter Empfangsbereich. Gastronomie abgewirtschaftet, ebenso der Pool renovierungsbedürftig. Zimmer guter Ausblick jedoch in allen Belangen renovierungsbedürftig.

It was perfect

Paint was chipped on balcony facing ocean. Staff was very casual and laxed. Couldn't get a hold of front desk at night. My room key stopped working randomly. Toilet seat had burns on it.

The hotel is in need of an upgrade in all areas, but you do get a nice scenery of the beach. It was very conivent for my purpose. Va. beach itself is a very clean place. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel, than keeping looking....

I had and incredible stay at the grand ocean hotel would highly recommend it and will surely stay again!

Three trips to the front desk to get a key that worked. Cold water and a half empty green pool with beer cans floating in it.

The carpet was very dirty under the beds. The internet connection rarely worked on my computer and only when I sat on the floor in the hallway. The General Manager argued with me about the internet service, even after his maintenance personnel confirmed that other rooms had problems connecting to the internet.

There were a lot of negative reviews which made me uncomfortable about staying here but it really wasn't so bad. The room was really clean, and comfortable.

I love the view here and the hotel was ok in comfort... not the greatest, but good enough for the discounted price we got. It was fairly clean, but could use more maintenance. The balcony door needs changing because it's old and ended up jamming the whole time. We had to fight to open and close it each time. The lock doesn't work well, so make sure […] to secure with the guard stick or whatever you call it, when you are not in the room. On the positive side, the sun rise and ocean view is amazing and made it worth the stay. I recommend this hotel if you are getting a good discount on the rooms, but don't pay full price. Mehr

This hotel has tons of horrible reviews. I was there the week before easter(2012). It was obvious that there is a lot of maintenance and renovation going on by managers who care about providing nice accommodations and good service. They stated they were trying to get as much work done as possible before the beach season starts in earnest. Having read […] the older reviews, i arrived with my own linens, bug spray, and wedges to secure the door. Didn't need any of those. I found: - the outside of the building was being repainted -the interior hallways were in the process of recarpeting. walls were clean and bright -the elevators were in process of being overhauled and redecorated -there was fresh, hot, palatable coffee, both regular and decaf, in the lobby 24 hrs/day. -the front desk folks, without exception, were pleasant and eager to make my stay a happy one. My room, on the 4th floor, -was spacious. had a king bed, dresser, desk-sized table and upholstered chair, full sleep sofa. end tables and a little coffee table, and room to spare. There was an overhead light by the door, and 2 table- and 1 floor- lamp...a tiny bit dim for me at night. - had sturdy, competent door locks. From what i observed, all the door locks on the floor looked to be in good condition. -the bathroom was newly tiled and had nice stone countertops. it was overall bright and eat-off-the-floor clean. (the towels were a little thin, but did the job). -the bed was comfortable. linens a little worn, but clean. Lots of pillows (although some were intended for the sleep sofa, which also appeared to be brand new. Thank goodness we had a great view of the ocean. It was off season so not to many people around but you would think that all the patio doors would shut. I would have not felt safe at all if we were not on the 7th floor. I even asked for another room since the first room had stripping on the patio door to keep the air out. The doors did not shut completely […] at all so you couldn't lock them. I see they are in the process of many renovations and I hope they continue........ As we entered hotel lot the entrance was blocked by heavy equipment not being used. They did not offer alot of parking spaces. To park we had to park 2 blocks over. When we asked about closer parking due to my foot being broken, even showing person at desk my new form to apply for handicap parking, she said Oh well, you do not have handicap parking […] yet do you? I showed her my card for handicap parking that was expiring that week-end, she said too bad, it will be out of date tomorrow-which was 4-6-12. I asked for some sort of consideration--got none. As for room, to get to room we took old dirty elevator, other was closed for repairs. As we entered room, you could smell smoke-this was a smoke free room?? The views were only good thing--they were wonderful. In bathroom, the tub had no grippers to prevent slipping. I was very careful entering tub for shower, but had to cut shower short, water was warm for about 3 minutes then went solid cold. There were no rails to hold onto as you got into and out of tub. Also towel they had to place on floor to step onto from tub slipped on floor. Room had not been updated and chairs were ripped, paint coming off walls, and just an over all bad place to stay. We travel often and I will not recommend this place to anyone. Needs to be closed to do a complete cleaning and remodel in my opinion. Mehr

We got an ocean view on the top level for a very cheap price. The room was very clean and the staff was very nice. It's in a local area where you don't have to drive to get anywhere and taxi cabs are right there when you need them. The only issue I can say is the fighter jets flying over every 10-15 minutes. They were very loud

Check-in and check-out took forever. It seemed like the person working at the desk had no idea what he was doing. The elevators looked like a death trap. The hotel is outdated and the rooms lookd like a run down motel in a ghetto. The carpet was disgusting, I didn't even want to take my shoes off. I swear I felt something crawling on me in the middle […] of the night. Oh yeah, and the "free wireless internet"...good luck getting a connection. Spend the extra money, and stay somewhere else. loose carpets in hallway; carpet to tie floor was higher; threshholds loose; one elevator: no carpet on floor with rough bare floor; doing construction hile opening up.They need new beds as these were from 2 older owners

Need serious upgrade and maintenance work. We had to change rooms 3 times due to room conditions.

The bad reviews of this hotel were accurate. The band plays loud until 10 11 pm on weeknights, but weekends they don't start until after 10 pm and don;t stop to after 2 am (We got no sleep and the design of the hotel makes all rooms succeptable to the noise from the bar/bamd and the pool). Good location off the beach, but forget about hearing the waves […] in the evening. Hotel lobby and hallways were also dirty, carpets were stained and the elevators were dirty. The rooms and bathrooms appeared to be upgraded, but the other negative features out weighed this. Mehr

We have beeen at better Hotels. And they have been cleaner. Had trouble with getting hot water in the shower. The sink kept stopping up. We had to hold up the stopper by hand so the water wouldnt fill up. The maid service didnt change or straighten our bed sheets when we were out of the Hotel. And it had a mildew smell in the Hotel room.

All Funiture are falling apart as well the shower faucet? mattress quality was good. Personally, I think the hotel needs to update their Furniture.

room was small ,curtains were torn and hanging down and we had to ask for more linen, very noisy till 2.30 in the morning could not sleep, hallways were a disgrace and employee smoking in hallways elevators were digusting I would not recommend this to anyone and I have been in hotels that were not up to parr but this one takes the cake. The photo of the hotel is so misleading... The hotel is in bad shape and looks like their are no plans for upgrades. We usually stay at Marriott properties, but gave this one a shot. The only upside was the view of the Ocean and the location to the Marathon finish line. Would not reccommend to anyone!

Hotel was not kept up with at all. TV's didn't work!! It smelled funky! There are much nicer places to stay in the area.

Had a grand time at the Grand Ocean Hotel. The location right on the boardwalk is great, close to everything. The staff was very accomodating and kind, and allowed us leeway at check-in and check-out. The rooms were clean, with nice balconies ovelooking the beach. Bed was very comfortable. This is a great deal for the bargain shopper. We had to ask […] for extra towels and pillows, as these were not in good supply, but the staff readily accomodated. I would not recommend this hotel to other guests. There was a bad odor in the bathroom as well as the hallway that was trying to be concealed by some bad air freshener. For the money I spent just to have an ocean front room, I will stay somewhere else next time. theres no on site parking,not safe for me,elevator slow,the hallway is dirty,toilet seat broke,theres only 2 cart for your luggage for the entire hotel.the only good thing I like is the nearby bar and restaurant w/live music,overlooking the pool and ocean view

Hotel restaurant staff was excellent. Bartenders were friendly and helpful and on top of their jobs. Music in the restaurant was good, lots of energy. I do think it should be more contained as some people really want to get sleep and I could hear in on the sixth floor. Room was okay clean. Grungy, grungy, grungy. All I can say. Not that VA Beach is known for being the cleanest, nicest area, but I was afraid to touch anything in this hotel. It was on the beach, which is all it had going for it...wouldn't book this again. Next time, I am going for a chain hotel, at least if you stay there you may have a chance of getting decently clean […] accomodations...they have some sort of reputation to uphold. I have read other reviews that were not that nice about this hotel....but I liked it. yes....the band was loud....but they quit at 11. yes the hallways had no ac but I didnt sleep there. the balconey door had no lock but I was on the 7th floor. take your own pillow theirs are a little small. staff was nice and very helpful. parking was offsite but within […] one block and I am very picky about my car so I was concerned but when I picked it up it was just like I left it. the view and location was great. if you dont expect the hilton and just want a safe secure place with a very nice ocean view this is the place. Arrived on a sunday at 2:00 p.m. check in was at 3:00.Was told that room was ready but it would cost an additional $25.00 to get in 1 hour early! The smell of the room was almost unbearable. Smelled like incense and moth balls all at once. Had to open balcony door to freshen the room. 9:00 pm. in the bed and was visited by a LLLAAARRRGGGEEE spider on […] the pillow next to my head. This thing was the size of a jar top. Killed it with a shoe, took to front desk in a plastic bag. Showed to front desk and asked for a new room. Was told they didn't have any other rooms. Said Maintenance would come up and spray. Great now you are going to get all the bugs riled up and poison me and my two sons. Maintenance guy came up and sprayed. No smell (must be watered down). Then itched all night in fear of more visitors. Will never stay here again. Mehr

no interned service ,front dek some cant even speak englhish well,dirty hallways no ac on hallways, elevator is a trash

Check the rooms as soon as you get there. The hideaway bed mattress was covered with Mold and the 2 pillow cases on the main bed had big spots of dried blood from someone else.

I booked this hotel very late in the vacation process, so couldn't afford to be picky. A few things you should know: the outdoor pool is small, few chairs surrounding it and gets very little sun. Hotel staff less than courteous - took me 23 minutes of standing (at the front of the line) to get service because the clerk was on her cell phone. elevators […] are slow, dank, dirty, and too few. Stairs do not lead you to within the hotel below the 3rd floor "all ocean front views" is misleading -yes i could see the ocean, but i could also see mildew and mold growth in the standing water on the roof of the bar) right outside of my room on the 3rd floor. we booked the room for 4 or more guests, only had 2 towels and 1 roll of toilet paper upon check in. had to go downstairs myself to get refills and dump my own trash can. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless there are no other options and i knew they had very low expectations. Mehr

I am sorry but the area was great! The hotel service if we got towels you were lucky. There was no lock on the door to the pool, the pool was too small.

This is a 'budget' hotel on the higher end. Nothing fancy, but clean and maintained. Right on the boardwalk. Decent restaurant/tiki bar on site with live entertainment. Only disappointment was a $25 fee to check in early... 5 hours ahead of time tho, so was worth it, after an all night drive ;-)
