"Zimmer OHNE Ausblick"Bewertet von einem Hotels.com Gast am 1. Apr. 2012

Exit on 3rd last station: Yiheyuan. Follow signs West.)

"Good location and very attractive prices!"
The hotel offers very clean and neatly decorated rooms at very affordable rates. There is no internet connectivity in the rooms but connected PC’s in the lobby that can be used for about 3$ per hour. From the hotel, you can conveniently reach the famous Beijing shopping street by a 10 – 15 minute walk. Also, the Forbidden City, one of Beijing’s many […] highlights, can be reached by foot within 10 minutes. The hotel features a Western style restaurant where you can order Pasta or Burgers in case you have already had enough of the Asian or Chinese cuisine. The food is OK but by no means spectacular. We really liked to hotel overall. However, the airport transfer is quite a rip off: They charge 350 CNY which is about 55$, whereas taxis cost a mere 100 CNY on average. So stay away from the airport pick-up service and just get a cab. Insist on the driver running the meter from beginning and don’t accept any deals upfront. Mehr

"Great little, authentic Chinese hotel."
This is the 4th time that I have stayed at this hotel and I am not sure what brings me back...lol!! Maybe it's the zeal from the young people who work at the hotel. Possibly the amazing location, which is close to everything. It's also the great price that you won't find anywhere. My favorite piece is the street behind the hotel with some of the best […] places to eat. The rooms are never perfect, always something little wrong, but it doesn't seem to bother me. This time I stayed in the smallest room possible. The other times I stayed in the traditional Chinese room and the large executive suite. I wanted the smaller room since I was rarely going to be in there and it suited me just fine. It's quiet, comfortable and quaint. Mobile reception is terrible, but it's nice to have a wired internet. A switch must not have been working because half my lights were off one night, but I just had to tell the staff and they resolved the issue. I just feel like I am family when I stay at this place, always ending up in the little coffee shop and bar at night watching those old, corny Chinese movies. Love it! Mehr
"close to all the sites, but the room smelled."
the hotel was very central and close to all the attractions. The only problem was with the room and the smell from the bathroom meant you couldnt stay in the room for long periods, tryed to get it changed but they wouldnt allow it. the lobby was great and spent most of the time there when not out and about. The concierge were great but couldnt really […] comunicate with the receiption staff. Mehr
"RedWall Hotel"
location is great, price is good, room is ok, clean, with air-conditioning working fine.
"good, but..."
cleanless of the hotel/rooms as usally in China; rooms are small but okay; location: it is 1 km away from the next Metro station - will take you around 15 min to walk. Please note the main entrance to the forbidden city is south gate. No entrance via North gate which is close to the hotel.
"Fantastic Staff!!"
The staff were brilliant, going out of their way to help me with a problem with my luggage. Easy to walk to the Forbidden City and staff were eager to show you how to find other tourist spots on the map. Internet in our room was great and the cleaners kept our room immaculate! Fab place to stay and a fantastic price!
"RedWall Hotel -- good location and amenities."
For a Budget hotel, this was good. The rooms were clean and bath well stocked. The staff at the reception was helpful, but could put on a more cheerful demeanor. The tours organized by the travel desk is unreliable.
"Redwall Hotel - good location"
Great location near the northern gate of Forbidden City. Easy to get to from airport. Helpful staff and very comfortable/clean. Walking distance to major sites and nearby hutongs.
"Red Wall Hotel - wonderful experience"
Despite being a local establishment, Red Wall Hotel is tip-top when it comes to service, comfort and cleanliness. It is also very conveniently located nearby to Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Jing Shan Garden. The surrounding area is definitely not clean but the shops in the back lanes sell wonderful food. Quite a few fruit shops there, too. Really […] enjoyed my stay at Red Wall Hotel. Well done and keep up the good work! Mehr
"Close to Forbidden City"
The staff at this hotel are fairly incompetent, but the price is decent and the rooms are completely adequate. We stayed in a first floor room with two single beds, in the back of the building, and it was very quiet and dark, great for sleeping in. The room and bathroom were extremely clean and there were plenty of toiletries. The duvets were nice […] and heavy, good for cold Beijing nights. The hotel is very close to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen, and some staff speak English quite well. Have stayed here once before and would definitely recommend it again, despite the bumbling/buffoon nature of a couple of staff. Mehr
"Great Wall Trip"
Hotel is nice but signing up Great Wall tour is not a good idea. The lunch was bad and it takes you to three places to shopping and leave little time for sightseeing.
The Hotel Redwall in Peking - nice clean hotel with very good location

"REDWALL HOTEL"
Beds were left from 1930's with springs sticking out to make sure you did not sleep well. Light bulbs were removed from the fixtures to save on electricity. Linen service was marginal.
"A Hostel Masquerading As A Hotel"
Dirty, smelly, broken down and run down. My expectations were low, but I wasn't prepared for this bad. I've traveled extensively, and been to Beijing several times, but this is bad, bad, bad. The bed is harder than rock hard. I doubt the sheets had been changed. The bathroom had mold and a horrible smell. There are much better choices at reasonable […] prices in Beijing. Oh...and if you are on a budget and still want to risk it...even the wifi, which is the sole thing free in the hostel, is horrible. Mehr
"Room was nasty"
The condition of the room was probably the worst I have ever seen. The lobby was in better shape and it was close to the forbidden city. The massage girl located in the hotel was nice and gave a good massage.
"Red Wall Visit Oct 2011"
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location. Reasonably priced roms and breakfast. Convenience shops, etc. near by. Stayed there 3 nights. Walking distance to Beijing highlights and main shopping district. Good, basic, well kept, and clean acommodations. Wouldn't hestitate to stay there again. Location saves time when arranging tours, etc. There […] are many fancier hotels but few that are as conveniently located. Mehr
Very freindly and helpfull staff
"Close to places of attraction"
A very convenient location for your visit Tianmen square, and Forbidden.City. One negative point for us is, If you are traveling with subway, be prepared to have 15 mins walk to the closet subway.
"OK hotel"
We had 2 rooms a double room & a twin room. The double Our room was ok except for the bathroom. Could have been a bit bigger, but OK. The room was cleaned daily, nice & fresh, however the bathroom appeared to have had some water damage at one point in time. The bottom part of the bathroom door frame was rotten ( had a odor). We ignored this cause […] the hotel we had before was worse so we appreciated a clean hotel. The bed was however HARD, Chinese style, but we asked for an extra quilt, no probs. The twin room was lovely. nothing to complain there. A bigger room than the double room. Hotel service was ok. The staff could speak English enough to understand & be understood (compared to the rest of the Beijing population) Mehr

"You can do better..."
Keeping in mind that you are in China the hotel over all is average. Me being a Chinese speaking person got excellent service and made lots of friends so I was really pleased. However, I noticed mix reactions from the others. Some had a great experience and others were a little disappointed. I got the cheapest room available since I was on my own, and […] found the room a little cramped, but the other rooms may be better. The biggest pro is definitely location and ease of access to everything, on the flip side you are paying a little more for a little less. Mehr
"Extremely Unhelpful Staff."
I would advise you to steer well clear of the "Business Center", I asked them to book a ticket for the acrobatics show at the ChaoYang Theatre and was very specific about wanting that particular theater. Despite her assurances I was indeed dropped off at a completely different theater and, as it was my last night in Beijing I was then left with no time […] to see the show that I actually wanted. Both times I called reception with requests they were ignored and I had to actually go down to reception in person. This was not a language barrier problem as I do speak Mandarin. The hotel is very close to the North Gate of the Forbidden City, unfortunately this is now the exit gate. The only entrance is at the South Gate next to Tianenmen Square, which is around 40mins walk away. Mehr

"Redwall Hotel - needs a serious upgrade"
The good: - Very good rate. Their economy room prices are comparable to hostels - Very good location. Short walk to Forbidden city and Jingshan park - Good housekeeping. Our rooms were cleaned and toiletries replenished everyday The bad: - Old and musty. The hotel is simply past its prime. Everything looks and smells old. Not really something you look […] forward to after a long day. - No cable service. So your stuck with local TV channels in Mandarin If you are on a tight budget like me, opt for a hostel. There are a lot of new ones with private rooms out there. As for location, find one within walking distance to a subway station, its as good as staying in a hotel next to tourist attractions. Mehr
"Not as good an experience as the first stay"
The location is wonderful ... you just can't beat staying right at the NE corner of the Forbidden City with Jingshan Park a block to the west, a hutong just to the north and a subway stop a 5 minute walk to the west. However, I was moved from a perfectly good room to a room that was not ready. Not to mention my new room's shower leaked all over the […] floor and when it rained the ceiling in the bathroom leaked. Definitely not the best stay at the Red Wall I have had. Mehr
"Close to all the action"
If you want to be close to the Forbidden City and Tianamen Square then Redwall is the place. The staff will go out of their way to accomodate you and Mark is great. They are use to dealing with international clientele and you can exchange currency in the hotel. We arrived at 9:00am and were able to check in early w/out any problem. I would recommend […] when purchasing items in the hotel--whether water, food, or transportation check out everyone first. In the restaurant a bottle of water will cost about 16RMB (about $2.75 U.S.) but you can get the same bottle of water from the front desk for 2RMB (about $0.30). Mehr
"mixed feelings"
If you're coming to see the sights of Beijing, the location of this hotel can't be beat. It's just a block or so from the north gate of the Forbidden City (which is less crowded), and many other interesting attractions and neighborhoods are within walking distance. Other pluses: the staff was helpful and friendly. They have both Chinese & Western food […] restaurants. The AC in our room worked great. And the price for the room was great. BUT the room was really tiny, and the springs were poking through the mattress a bit. This was my first hotel in China, and I thought, maybe that's just how Chinese hotels are? Subsequent hotels in Shanghai and elsewhere proved that theory wrong. Bottom line: It's a very good deal if you're not hung up on comfort. Mehr

For the price, it was okay. No complaints. They work hard to please and for Beijing this says a lot.
"Redwall hotel"
Room was so small we kept bumping into furniture. Towels appeared like rags - several holes and smudges. Shower didn't work very well. Service incredibly slow and unhelpful when trying to extend for a late check out (we were happy to pay their half price of room for 4 hours but kept being asked for nearly a full room rate). Bell boy helpful. Close to […] forbidden city but a distance from any subway. I personally wouldn't stay here again for the price. My sister and her partner had another room which was cleaner, larger and far better than we had, so not the entire hotel was this poor. Mehr
"OK hotel for the value"
I would consider this a two star hotel. Older building but the rooms were fairly clean. The beds were hard (common) and the shower left water all over the bathroom floor. Coffee shop and restaurant downstairs. No wifi but there is a computer to use for a fee and a internet cafe down the street. The young girl who worked at the business center was very […] helpful but I would still avoid the hotels package tours. The area is good for everything except the subway. When I tried to stay one extra night they wanted to charge me double so I went down the street to the King Parkview which is a much nicer hotel in the same area for a comparable price. Mehr
The hotel staff was very helpful specially patricio he went above and beyond. It was really close to forbidden city and a taxi drive from all other attractions. The cleanliness of the hotel was not good at all but i didn't spend much time in the room only slept there. For the price i think i would recommend this hotel to someone who doesent mind not […] having all the comforts but just needs a bed and shower to tour the city!! Mehr
"Ok for the budget"
The Redwall Hotel is an ok hotel for the budget traveller. It is close to the Forbidden City, the Tianamen Square and other attractions, but quite far from the Beijing Capital Airport. It is closer to the train station, though. The room is clean, but small. The shower stall, although with curtains will flood the bathroom when you take shower. It would […] have been better if they install a divider for the shower and the toilet. The carpeting could use a changing as it is visibly dirty, even if you vacuumed it already. Bed is ok, but not soft. Overall, my stay at this hotel is OK since I am travelling on a budget. I was at a no smoking floor, yet some guests are smoking inside their rooms; hence, the smell of the cigarettes come to my room. The staff are friendly, and accommodating and speaks a quite OK English. I did not try the food at the restaurant, but two blocks away from the hotel are rows of shops of all sorts, including restaurants. Mehr
"Friendly/very handy,but no WIFI+bad taxi hookups"
Overall we had a good stay here. Staff were friendly and for the most part very helpful. The tour we booked through them was really good and the acrobats seat they booked for us was great and it was an amazing show. We booked a Executive suite. Overall, the room was spacious, big king size bed-really hard-typical chinese bed. The negatives was the […] fridge was too loud to have on + the extra bar items were rediculously expensive, the room was really dark +very few lights-only some dim lamps and the bathroom was not that nice and the shower had low pressure. No WIFI and the internet was super slow, like dial up speeds. I asked them to order me a taxi for the morning, they said one would be there. When we got down to the taxi car, it was like all the other taxi's but no price per km was displayed and we saw he did not have a taxi ID number. He was friends with one of the workers and he may have lost his license or not renewed it. We walked down the road and got our own taxi. So did not leave on the best note-but we still had a great time! Mehr
"Nasty"
I have never been in a hotel that was so nasty. Our room had carpet and it was packed down with dirt. I don't think they vacuum at all. I'm not talking about stained carpet but pure dirt.
"Not a 3 star hotel, there are much better hotels!"
I was very disapointed with this hotel, It is not a 3 star!! it is very run down and not maintained. Our room was very dark, it had no lighting other than a lamp. The carpets were stained and the wallpaper was filthy and full of rips/holes. The bed smelt of smoke and was full of springs which made it very hard to sleep. The room descibed on the website […] says there is a safe & a minibar, we had neither and there is no space to hang /store clothes. The location is okay. It is very convienient for the forbidden city but far away from the nightlife/resturants. The hotel was erxtremely cheap so I can't moan to much but there are much better hotels & hostels at the same price in better condition. I would not recomend this hotel. Mehr
"YES, but NO!"
YES: Hotel service was good (most employees understood english, some spoke very well) and about a 3-5 minute walk to the North Entrance to the Forbidden City. Hotel area good (felt safe traveling alone), small street behind hotel with reasonable restaurants. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!: the room looked like it was from the 40's, my non-smoking room had numerous […] cigarette burns in the carpet, the air conditioning was non-existent (it was cooler in the hallway). AND FOR GOD SAKES, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT get on one of the three wheeled motorized 'cart-taxis'. Driver's will promise you the world, and the try to charge you 10 times more at the end of the ride. TRAVELER BEWARE - You usually do get what you pay for - a basic, sub-standard room to shower and sleep! Mehr
This was a very nice hotel. Do not trust the map on the website, the hotel is located on the opposite side of the Forbidden City. The hotel staff was friendly, but their English was not too good, but they did try to be helpful. We booked the Acrobatics show through the hotel, however we would not recommend it! You are on your own to get back to the […] hotel and there are not that many cabs that late at night. The hotel is quite far from many sights and restaurants so be prepared to either walk, take transit or cabs. Mehr
"Redwall Hotel-My home in Beijing"
I travel to China two or three times per year and Redwall Hotel is always where I stay my last night or two in Beijing. I wouldn't say it's the best hotel I stay at in China but for the price it's a steal. You can't beat the proximity to the Forbidden City, Bei Hai park, Jing Shan park and the National Art Museum and Wang Fu Jing walking street is just […] a 2RMB bus ride away. If you're an artist you might also enjoy the knitting/yarn shop across the street and the wealth of art supply stores nearby. The Redwall staff is friendly, helpful, chatty and likely will remember you if you come again. If you're into meeting people from other foreign cultures be sure to hit the breakfast buffet. The hotel offers exchange services, there is also a bank on the corner, and there are plenty of places to buy bottled water or snacks nearby. I've never had a problem feeling safe wandering around the neighborhood. Mehr
"Red Wall in China"
This hotel is closely located to the Forbidden City, and two wonderful parks. It is great to get the Jingshan Park early in the morning, see the beauty of the city and exercise with the local crowds. Staff was friendly, spoke English well and were helpful. Beds are typically hard (China) some of the rooms are quite a bit smaller than others, but overall […] a great value. Local fruit stalls and restaurants right around the corner. Mehr
"Great hotel but bellboy too eager to sell tours"
The hotel was great, location perfect, 5 mins from the Forbidden City (aka Palace Musem, good to know when you go to Beijing). The rooms were very clean and nice and the staff was willing to do everything. The only problem we had was with the bellboy as he was a little too eager to get me and my partner on tours. We found out later that we had received […] incorrect information from him regarding the taxi rate and ended up renting a taxi for a 600 yen for the day, which is probably a little expensive. Otherwise the hotel was great and we didn´t have any problems. Mehr
