Overall we enjoyed this hotel. However, the restaurant was short staffed on the Sunday morning with too many guest and not enough tables. Frustrations were exacerbated by the attitude of staff who were also frustrated and clearly felt customers "impatience" was unjustified. We queued for too long before being admitted to the dining room as did many […] others. We asked for coffee 3 times before it arrived again because there were not enough staff to deal with a full dining room. Breakfast is invariably the last memory of a hotel. This was not a good parting impression for a lot of the guests. Mehr

Easy walking distance to University. Don't forget Bristol is hilly.

Great location, superb rooms and top class service - only downside was price of onsite car park but overall a superb hotel and well worth money - highly reccomended!!

I booked this hotel as a weekend Birthday treat for my wife. I was extremely happy with everything about the venue. The room was very comfortable and nice touches included the robes and slippers, all making you feel a bit spoilt. The room was spotless and very up to date decor. Everything from pastries to pancakes and a huge cooked selection with eggs done everyway! I would certainly stay again. If driving to the hotel, just be aware that parking is quite limited and the charge is a tad heavy, that said it's a very secure car park (cctv and gated) so at least you know your car is safe. Mehr

Public areas are nice. Breakfast is great - loads of choice. We had a deluxe room on the top floor. You can't open the small window. The bed was a bit soft and uncomfortable; I was glad we only stayed two nights. The room was a little tired but it was reasonably spacious, well appointed and clean. Surely the best hotel to stay in if you are visiting Colston Hall or the Bristol Hippodrome. Beds were very comfy and the rooms were large and inviting. The staff offered great service and were very friendly. Very good stay and will be booking again when I next need a Bristol stayover.

Marriott really do know there business. They are without doubt the best chain of hotels I have stayed in and there has been a fair few. The whole place is just run with a seamless efficiency and the breakfast is just the best... so much choice, good quality food, cooked well and again service is quick, smooth and professional. Great hotel with character, looks outdated and needs a clean externally. Internal of hotel is great full of character, staff very happy to please. We had a room facing a wall so be careful on the view you get. We did call the hotel before we got there to get tywo adjoining rooms as we had our children with us and were told they had been reserved for […] us however when we got there they were not available - extremely disappointing. Odd that the rooms did not have a fridge. Otherwise a good comfortable hotel with great breakfast facilities and a great location. Mehr

The hotel is in an excellent location in the centre of Bristol. It’s adjacent to the cathedral on one side and the city centre ferry landing on the other. Harbour side bars and restaurants, Millennium Square and the aquarium are located just behind the hotel. The hotel itself has well presented public areas – with two classically furnished bar/lounge […] areas off the reception. We enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea in the lounge. The bedroom was clean and a good size. Room included desk with chair and also a chaise lounge type chair. Good flat screen TV with a large number of channels. The breakfast was excellent with a large selection of the usual buffet - cereals, hot English breakfast selection breads, pastries etc. These were all good quality - however nice touches were the omelette/egg station – freshly prepared and the pancake machine. For those wanting a later breakfast, service is until 11am every day of the week. Dinner was excellent – delicious and beautifully presented. The staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and friendly. I guess it’s the higher end of prices in the area – but if you book online and in advance you may be able to get a good deal. And as others have mentioned the car park is quite tight in places and is £12.50 per 24 hours! But it’s still worth it. Mehr

My husband and I stayed at the above hotel for two nights last week. The staff appeared to anticipate your needs before you had actually asked for assistance, always a sign of a good hotel and at 70 years old we have stayed in a few around the world. The service was excellent and we would happily have extended our stay. Our son lives in Bristol so hopefully […] we will return later this year. Mehr

Rather disappointed this time with the Marriott. Having been emailed and told no need to reconfirm booking, I duly arrived at the hotel around 9.15 pm to be told no twin rooms were left. What if I had been staying with an elderly relative? As it was my sister and I asked for the "put you up bed" to be made up and we tossed a coin for the queen double […] bed. I lost and got the temporary bed! Room also backed onto the club behind. Rather noisy come 3 am. Breakfast is always good. But a lesson learnt this time. Mehr

The hotel itself is lovely and breakfast was really good, but if you expect to be able to relax around the lovely pool on a weekend don't because it is like a holiday park. There were about 4 sets of children in the pool doing what children do, be loud! Because of the echo in the room it was deafining. One man even brought his child into the sauna! […] Overall this hotel is nice but the spa is like a public pool, not a relaxing area. Mehr

Great hotel to stay in, very close to all sights, clean and friendly staff

Recently stayed with my sister at the hotel and requested a twin room. No problem at all. The room was surprisingly quiet being at the front of the hotel on the lower ground floor. Reception extremely helpful when requesting extra milk, had it delivered with 5 mins.

I surprised my husband with a night away on Boxing Day. The hotel was beautiful, the service was great and the breakfast was excellent. The location was better than I expected. We had a very relaxing visit. The leisure facilities need some improvement, the changing rooms could have been cleaner and the sauna needs refurbishment. The main problem was […] the pool was absolutely freezing and we could only stay in it for a few minutes. This was a shame because the rest of the hotel was excellent. We would definitely stay again but we wouldn't take the children because of the freezing swimming pool. Mehr

Just one tiny issue: there was a wedding reception in the main dinning area. So, it took a while to find where they had a breakfast room "hidden". Otherwise, all was perfect. Good value for money.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel we are in our fifties and our son and girlfriend in their 20`s. The indoor pool was lovely, food great especially breakfast, the location of the hotel was great , just a few steps from the ferry service to SS Gt. Britain, the ferry runs all year and a lovely static eatery and real ale venue the Grain Barge was […] on the ferry route. We didn`t use the car all weekend, shops and a great local market were easily reached by foot. The staff at the hotel were fantastic, from checking in to cleaning staff,they were friendly, helpful and cheery, such a nice change, the beds were really comfortable. This is an old traditional hotel with a grand feel about it and some of the areas are tired, however this did not detract from a great stay at the Marriott. Mehr

Our weekend break was fantastic, we were bitterly disappointed with the food and the service of the high tea and definately wouldn't have it again nor would we recommend it to anyone else. Breakfast and our evening meal was superb.

Stayed at the Marriott Bristol Royal last weekend and had a lovely relaxing stay. The location of the hotel was perfect, staff were very friendly & helpful, the rooms were clean, comfortable & quiet and excellent breakfast!! The only criticism would be the tea/coffee in the room which was a bit iffy (but could've been the water!)

Nice, 'grand' hotel. Allocated a room in the basement which caused degree of apprehension. However, because of hilly location, basement is actually ground floor. Overall the room was conducive to good night's sleep due to comfortable bed, effective blackout curtains and it being very quiet (remarkable given city centre location). Spacious bathroom […] with Marriott brand toiletries. Very powerful shower. The addition of a magnifying mirror would have been good as had to lean over cupboards/sink (a make-up thing!) Good breakfast with plenty of choice and decent quality food. This hotel is a good four star, maybe getting close to needing an update, but it wouldn't take much to make it five star - slippers/dressing gowns/better toiletries etc. Recommend and would stay here again. Bit expensive, but then it seems that Bristol is expensive. Parking in basement £12.50 per day (but valid until midnight on day of departure). Mehr

Lovely hotel,only stayed one night but would have loved to stay longer,fantastic location if you like bars clubs and attractions and still enjoy a beautiful hotel.Pool sauna a spa were enjoyable after a great breakfast.

Our one night stay was a special treat with out the children. We arrived for the start of the Bristol Harbour Festival and the room was ready early. The room was on the 3rd floor and had the benefit of air con, which we set to chill and was a blessing due to the high humidity that weekend ! Breakfast is served right up to 11:00am on our stay and ment […] we could have a long lazy morning. No complaints about the breakfast, all you can eat and the eggs were cooked in front of you at the breakfast bar. Great location to explore the harbour and shopping arears. Only grip would be the cost of parking, but it is a city centre and still worked out cheaper than taking the train from torquay. The wife and I were happy with all the facilties and would go back again (if we could afford it !!) Mehr

Stayed at the hotel with my wife and two children, Everything about the hotel was excellent. Friendly service, cleanliness, breakfast etc. Would definitely stay here again.

This is ideally located, close enough for the city and bars but is really quiet. Parking was very reasonable rate too and you can leave your car up to the following midnight even after checkout so you get more than 24hours. Loved the pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. Our room only had a mediocre view but we did get the cheap seats but the room was […] excellent. We didnt had breakfast so can't comment on that. Staff we encountered were very nice and all we need now is an excuse to visit there again :) Mehr

We very much enjoyed our stay at the royal. The location is very good as it is no more than 10 mins from pretty much everything you'd like to go to in Bristol city centre. There was a little mix up with the payment for a morning paper, but it was quickly and pleasantly dealt with, with no fuss. We were a little disappointed that the bar closed so soon […] after we returned from the show we went to see, but it was a bank holiday the next day so I suppose it was to be expected. All in all a very nice friendly hotel. Not quite as much chintz as we expected, but hey you can't have everything ;) Mehr

Love the hotel, we had champagne high tea and the service was great other than they firgot to give us the tea... The spa facilities were great but I would have expected them to provide robes for hotel guests. If you do book here, don't book treatments (such as pedicures) we were all disappointed and for the same price we could have had a glass of champagne, […] a proper pedicure with foot spa etc. in Nails Inc! Our stay at this hotel was great have been several times before nice rooms, great food a very pleasent stay and looking forward to the next one.

The hotel itself looks like an old mansion from the outside and this impression is carried through to all the public areas and function rooms. There is a sense of old world luxury about the place with beautiful dining rooms and comfortable lounges and bar. The quality of the breakfast buffet is excellent but dining in the main restaurant, is a real […] treat and should not be missed. My only criticism is that you have to be part of a group scheme, or pay separately, if you are to have access to WiFi. Overall, a strong recommendation. Mehr

My stay was great. But I have to point out that dinner in the main restaurant in the enclosed courtyard was one of the best meals I have ever had. I was suspicious because it was so quiet. This hotel is in a great location for docks and old part of Bristol, building and facilities are excellent. Lovely warm indoor pool, for example. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Staff sometimes need to be friendly, though, to make up for service. Our bar snacks took 30 mins to arrive, not tto bad but the customer on the table was offered a free […] drink because his was over 1 hour (beefburger) - he was told they were very busy but restaurant was empty... On first day our booked wakeup call did not happen and it took two phone calls and over 1 hr to get our booked newspaper... we would go there again and we would recommend it but faster service would definitely make it better again.. Hotel itself was fantastic in a great location. The room was really great and breakfast was fantastic. The pool area could do with an update and the female changing rooms were not up to standard. Our package came with dinner free on the first night. The meal itself was excellent, but the service was a little slow - we had to request dessert menus after […] waiting for 30 minutes. brilliant location
