Hotel Sofitel Xian on Renmin Square - Xi'an

Das Sofitel besticht auf jeden Fall durch sein super Frühstücksbuffet (das beste, das wir in China bekamen). Weiterhin hatten wir viel Glück, da bei unserer Ankunft eine Praktikantin aus der Schweiz an der Rezeption arbeitete und uns viele Hinweise und Tips für unseren kurzen Aufenthalt gab. Die Möglichkeit mit dem Taxi zur Terrakotta Armee zu fahren […] bietet sich an, allerdings sollte man bei der Preisvereinbarung auch das "Kleingedruckte" (Taxifahrer können meist kein Englisch, haben aber eine englische Preistabelle dabei) berücksichtigen. Die Standardzimmer sind klein und im Schrank, in dem sich die Minibar befand, lag auf den Schanieren Staub. Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Hotel und dem Service. Mehr

Sehr gutes Hotel, allerdings austauschbar auf hohem Niveau. Vielleicht fehlt es ein bisschen an chinesicher Charakteristik.

Wir blieben insgesamt 4 Nächte und bekamen ein gratis Upgrade auf eine Junior Suite (da sind dann auch Frühstück und Internetanschluss am Zimmer inkludiert). Das Zimmer und das Bad sind großartig (vor allem das große Bett). Das Frühstücksbuffet ist das beste, das ich jemals gesehen habe. Allerdings sind die Restaurants, die im Hotel untergebracht sind, […] eher teurer, weswegen wir uns mehr in der Umgebung diesbezüglich umgesehen haben. New modren hotel with five star qualities. Good location. Great staff and super rooms.

This hotel ticks every "wow" box you might have until you want to eat at night. The architecture pays homage to new and old China, the staff speak excellent English which was a bonus and the rooms were exquisite. We were told we were too late to eat at the Moroccan restaurant when we arrived an hour before their advertised closing so we went to the […] French/Chinese restaurant where we were served but staff hovered over us making us feel like we had to hurry up. The location of the hotel is within about a half hour walk of the train station but you have to walk through the red light district to get there. The hotel concierge told us we would not get a cab to the railway station as the time we needed to leave was shift change time and they would not pick us up!! Mehr

Great hotel, at very modest prices. This is the place to stay in Xian. Excellent restaurants. Rooms very well appointed, and the best bathrooms I've been in for myna years.

This was our favorite hotel in China. The price was right and the hotel was very modern and clean. A great choice in a relaxing neighborhood that is still close to all the sites.

The rooms are clean and stylish, but a bit ageing and a bit too cramped with stuff to be comfortable; walls are thin. We were given a room in the West Wing, which is a walk through an underground connecting tunnel from the breakfast restaurant (in the East Wing): I thought it would have been good hotel service to be given a choice at check-in which […] wing to stay in (e.g. upgrade possibility). What a pretty hotel, we were so happy to come home to this gorgeous place at the end of the day after seeing the warriors in Xian. No bad experiences, even being extremely picky, I can not recall one thing that was out of place. Good food, good location, walking distance to some sites and elegant comfortable accomodations. Loved it!!

As with all the Sofitels I have stayed in over the years of travelling the world the Sofitel in Xian does not dissapoint in any way. The hotel facilities were first class, returants to suit many tastes, and a friendly profestional staff all went to make our short break holiday a truely memorable experience.

Overpriced buffet prices relative to Xi'an. Attention to cleaning details mainly in common bathrooms very disappointing in this hotel class. noise in rooms above dance club unbearable. condition of swimming pool area unacceptable.

This is a 5-star quality hotel, good value for money. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Free Wi-Fi in the room. Highly recommended for families.

a real 5* hotel, enjoyed it tremendously, the only thing that needs serious improvement is the light in the room - it has been designed to form islands of light, but the overal impression is quite darkish...

Probably one of the best hotels overall I have ever stayed. Top marks on everything except the bed. The bed was surprisingly quit hard, not up to European or American standards. Breakfast buffet was fabulous. Service staff and concierge desk exceptional. Would stay again in a minute!!

Hotel excellent. In a good position, We were able to walk to Drum and Bell Tower and if we had, had longer would easily been able to walk to other parts. Food good and staff very helpfull

Best hotel in town and fair pricing

I think I might be the only person who rates a hotel by the softness of their beds. I chose this hotel because another person's review said that the beds were soft. They are the farthest from soft I have ever experienced. Despite the hardness of the beds, this hotel was very comfortable. We arrived via the train very early in the morning. It was before […] normal check in time and our room wasn't ready. But, since I was visibly ill, and explained that I needed a bed and a bathroom as soon as possible, they offered an upgrade. At first, they told me it would cost extra but when I explained that I couldn't afford to pay more, they upgraded us for free. I was traveling alone with my 14 year old daughter. Since I was sick, she survived the first day with room service and TV. They had quite a few channels with English including HBO and although the Room Service was expensive, it was convenient for our situation and she enjoyed the food. The room was very clean and beautiful. So if soft beds are not important to you, the room will be enjoyable. One other thing to note is there is only one small store across from the hotel area that is within walking distance to the hotel to get cold drinks or snacks. The mini bar is very overpriced, so it'll be important to hit this store early in your stay. We didn't know it was there at first since I was sick the first day so we were stuck paying the excessive mini-bar prices. As far as restaurants go, the dinner buffet in the East wing was fantastic but it cost about 200+ rmb per person and the breakfast buffet in the West wing was 140 rmb. You will definitely want to line up some meals outside of the hotel. Mehr

Everything was nice, but hotels staff's attitude was cold.

I strongly recommend this hotel. I spent 21 days in China and this was by far the best hotel I stayed at. While the price was twice what i paid for other hotels, i felt it was money well spent. We stayed at the Sofitel on Renmin Sq. for two nights during the Xi'an leg of our extended trip through China. Though a bit pricey, we decided to stay here as we had a difficult time finding a more affordable option in Xi’an that had basic western standards. The hotel is really nice and well-kept. Staff was very professional and courteous. It’s located […] within the city walls in a hotel compound with some other luxury hotels – which gives a sense of safety and gated security, but also gives off an “isolated feeling” even within the city. There were no eateries within short walking distance, and thus we felt trapped dining at the on-premise restaurants which are expensive and don’t particularly give the best value for your money. In general though, if you’re stopping in Xi’an for a short stay and are looking for a nice, western-standard hotel, the Sofitel at Renmin Square is a solid option. Mehr

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The location is great and the staff is very responsive and courteous. Our room was a bit cramped but the spacious and luxurious bathroom more than made up for this shortcoming.

It is a beutiful hotel and the service was great. I would recommend my friends and family to go there and it is the best hotel I went to in China. If I went to Xian again, I would defintely book this hotel again.

This is a very good hotel in a nice central location. The very helpfull staff are on hand to help with all your questions and arrangements. Nice rooms are large and clean with good bathrooms. Excellent breakfasts and good rstaurants. This is a 5 star hotel.

This was the second time at this hotel and it was a tremedous disappointment. The first room we were given had an extremely unpleasant smell in it. When we complained we were moved to another room which seemed to have the heating stuck on a rather high temperature. he air The air conditioning did not work, so it was hotter in the room than outside which […] was pretty warm any way. We then were moved to a third room which was acceptablebut still had little temperature control but we decided it was better than the other two and we were only there for three nights so would accept it. The staff were very pleasant but with this quality of hotel I do not expect to have to reject two rooms. Having said that the buffet in the restaurant was the best I have seen for a long while. This is a very interesting hotel, it's a large hotel with two separate buildings (East and West Wing) in a four hotels compound in the Renmin Square. Because of the two separate wings, each having a lobby, this made checking in a 50/50 chance. Our reservation did not indicate which wing, our taxi dropped us off in the West wing, upon check-in, we were […] told our reservation was in the East wing. Rather than having us walk over in the snow, the front desk host decided to upgrade us to a junior suite in the West wing. Great! The room was large with a separate sitting area. The room's furnishing and bathroom fixtures were modern and adequate. The bed's mattress was on the soft side and not firm like other hotels we encountered in China. As this was a pleasure trip, we did not utilize any of the hotel's business services. There were many restaurant choices in the hotel, but we only visited the Azur restaurant in the East wing for breakfast. The morning buffet was adequate servicing a mixture of western food and local favorites. Services was nice but lacking; there's a lot of movements by the waiting staff, but they are more interested in making sure the tables are set right rather than attend our request. We did use the hotel transportation to whisk us around town, and this is where they shine. The car we got was modern and the driver was excellent. He attended all of our needs and ensured we were taken care of when we reached the tour sites. Because of his excellent attentiveness we were able to visit every tour sites on our list. We had two minor issues during our stay, both were more a nuisance rather than problem. The first is taxi services, when we were not using the hotel transportation, we attempted to use local taxi, it's here that the hotel has issues, specifically the West wing. We stayed in the central hotel in a junior suite. It was lovely, extremely comfortable, clean. We were totally happy with the hotel.

The hotel upgraded us to a suite for our honeymoon stay and it was lovely and large! Two separate spaces, living area with a toilet room in one, bedroom with beautiful bathroom in adjoining room with sliding doors that could be closed to separate the rooms. The bed was firm and very comfortable, my husband had a great nights' sleep. The concierge, […] bellman and front desk staff were all very helpful and professional and assisted us in negotiating a reasonable rate for a taxi trip to the Terracotta Warriors and Big Goose Pagoda. English skills were excellent and very well presented. The hotel is about a 10-15 min walk from the Muslim quarter, not a problem for us were it not for the bad weather (cold and rainy). Slick, modern, well-appointed and stylish albeit in a indenti-kit way. Reception staff spoke English. Located on an purpose-built square that seems to comprise of hotels. I had a very comfortable stay, all the amenities were high quality and was reasonably priced for what it was. But it just lacks character...

We just spent one night in the hotel, but it was a fantastic experience! The room was amazing; clean, spacious and had all complementary things you could wish for! Even a "pillow menu" to choose the right pillow for the night! Amazing, defenitly would recommend this hotel if you stay in Xian!

We were to friends who stayed at this hotel 3 nights during our 3 week stay in China. We stayed in plenty of 5 star hotels, and the Sofitel was definately one of the best. Good sevice, very nice rooms, good facilities (pool, gym, etc.). The hotel has a more or less central location inside the city walls, to get somewhere in Xi'an you have to take […] a taxi anyway. We stayed at the Sofitel Xian for 2 nights in June. It is a beautiful hotel. The rooom was spacious and bed was comfortable. We ate in the Moroccan restaurant in the hotel the first night because it was late and raining so we didn't want to go out. It was very good and not too overpriced. Be aware that tea comes with the meal, so you don't have to order […] additional tea. The hotel was about a 10 min cab ride from the airport shuttle stop (Melody Hotel). We did walk back to the hotel from the main tourist area downtown one day we were there. It's not far, but there's not much in the immediate vicinity. We had the breakfast buffet one morning and it was actually pretty disappointing. If we had time to research other places near by, we probably would have been better off going somewhere else for the money (and taste). But, overall, this was a great deal for the money and would definitely stay here again. Mehr

This hotel takes looking after its guests very seriously. The staff have been well trained to respond swiftly and efficiently to requests. We stayed in several hotels in China during our trip, and the pillows and beds here were the most comfortable of all. The Chinese restaurant in the adjoining convention centre provided a good value and interesting […] menu. It's a ten minute walk to the main street and twenty to the Bell Tower in the centre of town. Local taxis are of variable quality and the driving can be terrifying. Use the travel centre on the second floor of the hotel's East wing to negotiate a better standard of car for a trip to the terracotta warriors -- this was also cheaper than booking one of the hotel's own vehicles. Organised trips tend to make several other stops which you might want to avoid. Mehr

西安の中心部から徒歩15分という非常に立地がいいホテルです。広々とした人民大厦の敷地で、ゆったりした気分になれます。部屋は洗面所も含めなかなか清潔で、広々としたクローゼットがありよかったです。ゆっくり西安観光を楽しむならおすすめです。

Vi boede på Sofitel i tre dage, og var rigtig godt tilfredse med hotellet generelt. Dog skal det siges, at vi blev placeret i vestfløjen, og det var lidt træls at skulle igennem en kold kælder (dog med kunstudstilling) eller over pladsen for at komme til morgenmad eller andre ting. Buffetten både til morgen og aften var god og frisklavet, og der var […] en rigtig god service af de ansatte. De fleste snakkede pænt engelsk, og kunne forstå, hvad man sagde, så alene det var et stort plus. Vi blev opgraderet til større værelser, hvilket var skønt om aftenen, men vi tror måske det var fordi de ikke havde været lejet ud nogle dage og alligevel skulle gøres rene, da de var temmelig støvede. Det havde ikke været et problem, hvis ikke det var fordi vi havde en astmapatient og en allergiker med, men det blev bedre dag to og tre, så vi klagede ikke over det. Vi havde bestilt ikke-ryger værelser, og det var de virkeligt, så det var dejligt. Vi kan bestemt anbefale at bo på Sofitel i Xi'an pga deres gode service og den gode placering. Mehr

Stayed one night in November 2010. It was nice. We went for a walk down town and then to see the terracotta army the day after. Hired a taxi for the day and he then dropped us of at the airport. Be shure to haggle in every shop!

Let's start with being honest: if we wouldn't have gotten the 33% discount promotion on this website, we would have stayed at Grand Mercure, same place, just cheaper. But even at full price this hotel is worth its money. It's everything you could expect from a Sofitel: nice looking, luxurous and very friendly staff, with an excellent knowledge of English. The […] hotel is located at Renmin Square, but that square is now almost fully occupied with Accor hotels, with also Mercure and Grand Mercure at its sides. The rest of the square has the People's Hotel and some theatre. Most important feature of this square is its proximity to the very centre of Xi'an, at a 20 minute walking distance of the zhonglou, the central Bell Tower. That was the main reason why I wanted to stay in those hotels. There's only one slight problem with the Sofitel: it's divided in two wings, seperated by the entry to the square. We had to go have breakfast in the other wing and only on the last day discovered there's a "secret" underground passageway with an art gallery. Also there's a golfcart shuttling the two wings, but that was not really needed. The rooms are very beautiful, with works of art and always at least one curved wall. The bathroom is really nice too but the bath itself was fit to Chinese measures, not to my huge western proportions. Internetconnection was not free but I wouldn't say it was expensive. Upon arriving in my room there was also a note that the final game of the FIFA worldcup Football would be broadcasted on large screens in the bar at half past two at night, so they really pay attention to what western customers want (although if I may add: the Chinese were pretty much also into this worldcup) The hotel has many different themed bars and restaurants: a japanese and marrocan styled restaurant, a havana bar, a french bar (for desserts) and a cocktailbar.
