Hotel Bastille de Launay - Paris

Convenient location, five minutes walk to Place de Vosges and Bastille. Very tight room but clean. Good to rest after a full day exploriong the city.

The welcome at this hotel made the stay worthwhile and I especially appreciated thaat the owner encouraged me to use my French, although everyone was fluent in English. The location is good and it's quiet and reasonably priced, for Paris these days.

The hotel is on a quiet street, in a good location. Lots of museums, ships, and restaurants are within walking distance. It's clean. The rooms, or at least the room I was in, are very small, but I was there for one night so this wasn't a major problem. The bathroom was basic, but spotless. The man at the front desk was professional, and spoke flawless […] English. An adaptor for my laptop plug was easily and happily supplied. The free Wifi in the hotel worked and having this is a big plus in my book. Far more expensive hotels charge you for Wifi. With that said, the breakfast was poor, and at EUR9, it should've been better. I've never seen such meagre, low quality food in a French hotel, as they really love food in that country. Real, not instant coffee would have been nice, and real fruit salad instead of canned would have been good as well. The aircon in my room was not working, but luckily it was quiet enough to open the window.. Lastly, I had obviously paid for the room via this site, but when i went to check out I had to settle the cost of the breakfast and a 78 cent 'city tax, and the hotel clerk wouldn't let me pay by card. I had to leave the hotel and go to an ATM machine. Very odd. Mehr

I was a bit dissatisfied with a few things. First, the WiFi was weak and cut out often. Also, it was annoying that you repeatedly had to sign in; however, it worked. I also didn't like how they tried to charge me for my breakfasts while checking out. I paid extra thru hotels.com. Other reviewers mentioned this. Finally, after trying to get me to […] pay $$ for the 7 breakfasts that I prepaid for, the charge me "city tax" that amounted to 5 euros. Isn't this included in the fee that hotels.com charges???? People looking for valet service and large, plush rooms might be disappointed with this hotel. People looking for a bit of old-world charm at a reasonable price (considering the Euro exchange rate) won't be. We found the staff friendly, helpful, courteous, cheerful. There are a couple of convenient Metro stops and several nice restaurants within easy walking distance. We rate the quality of hotel service a "4" only because on the day of our departure we didn't get (or didn't hear) the wake-up call we expected. We rate the comfort of the room a "4" because it was somewhat small and the bathtub was a bit of a challenge. We did find the beds better than those in most other European hotels where we've stayed. At first we thought the breakfasts they offered (not included in all room plans) a bit pricey. But for what they offered their price proved to be quite competitive. leuk hotel op nog geen 5 lopen min van place de la Bastille. eenvoudig maar prima voor een weekendje parijs. Bijna alles op loopafstand (notre dame, louvre etc.). Vriendelijk personeel. Wat wil je nog meer!
