Merritt House Inn - Monterey

very nice, loved breakfast.

I was satisfied but not wowed by this Inn. I will say that it was clean and comfortable, which counts for a lot, and we did love the fireplace (logs provided by the Inn). The continental breakfast was so-so; it would have been nice to see some healthier options (besides white-flour carbs and chemical yogurt), which exist plentifully in NorCal. Another […] drawback was that we had to pay for parking. I guess I should have read the fine print. Parking was $15/day. The downtown parking garage near Cannery Row charges $10/day. The location was fine, but still too far to walk to Cannery Row in the very chilly spring weather. I suppose it would be fine for summer. Mehr

Nestled between historical Monterey and touristy Moneterey. Close to the walking path for access to the coast, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf. The Vending Machine has Dr. Pepper. Highly recommend.

fantastic location - easy to find, walk to everything. Extremely friendly staff, great continental bfast. big room old and comfortable. best value for money.

Excellent location and very friendly owners. Walk to aquarium is ~ 1.5 miles. Montrio retaurant was amazing and the Peter B. brewery close by had great beer. Stout and IPA were both great.

Parking is just too tight and we wondered when we returned at night if there would really be room for us! Parking on the street is very limited.

Overall good place with a great location to downtown activities. The rooms are a little older but fine and the bed was comfortable. Good place to stay for the price.

Location was awesome and service was great. We felt very comfortable with the place. They upgraded our room as we were a couple and they said we had a two bed room, and then moved us to a king room, though it was a suite! Great place and would definitely stay there again. Its an INN not a 5-start hotel, so please don't have those expectations. Its clean […] and an ideal place. Mehr

across from Marriott but cheaper and easy to get from car to room. No ac, not that it is usually needed in Monterey, but I found myself sweating at night and reluctant to sleep with the door open (glass doors instead of windows on first floor). Although the Merritt House was clean, and located in a very convenient area of Monterrey, with each access to the main areas of town. The one pitfall that was very disappointing and led me to this poor review was the very limited number of tables in the small cramped dining area for breakfast. There were only 3 tables.. 2 accomodating parties of 3 - […] 4 and 1 - accomodating a party of 5. During our stay the Inn was fully booked and as you can imagine difficult to get a free table for breakfast. Breakfast items were OK not great, limited variety, and during our stay some of the clientelle were very rude. Some would take a long time for breakfast even though they were aware other's were waiting. One couple in particular was fiddling with their iphone and ipads as we were waiting. Save your money and go to a full service hotel.. Mehr

Merritt House was fine for most of my needs. Close to town and comfortable. Only problem was that the breakfast didn't start until 8:00. I did find a nice coffee shop nearby and enjoyed that.

Stayed for just one night and all the folks working there were more than accommodating. They were great! Downsides - the rooms need ceiling fans, they get stuffy, the walls are paper thin - we could hear the kids in the next room as if they were in our room, and the breakfast was eh. Pro : The inn's main selling point is the convenient location for the price. The staff is friendly. The rooms (we got the suite) are good sized and clean. Con : The antique furniture has an odd scent. Parking spaces are very small. You will need parking sensors if you drive a van/suv. Rooms are a bit dark.

Went to check in after spending day at race track. Was told I couldn't because I had left my wallet at the track. Hotel was prepaid. Everything else was great.

The location of this small hotel could not be any better. It is walking distance to Cannery Row and Fisherman's wharf. The hotel is partially comprised of a historic house, but we stayed in a much later (1960's?) wing of the hotel. The room was decorated nicely and it did have a fireplace, but the overall impression was one of trying to dress up an […] ugly room. The bathroom was particularly depressing with old linoleum, a loud exhaust fan, and a shower head too low for the average adult. Parking was an additional charge of $15 which is not bad at all considering what the larger hotels downtown would charge. The buffet breakfast consisted of cereals (hot and cold), muffins, bagels, hard boiled eggs, fruit, coffee and orange juice. Not bad at all and a reasonable selection. The staff was friendly and offered some great suggestions for local attractions. Check in and check out were handled well. While not the most luxurious accommodations in town, Merritt House was a good value. Mehr

Great location. Considerate service. Room could use a little updating (no good reading light). Much like a bed and breakfast.

What at wonderful hidden gem. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is within walking distance of just about everything you could want to see in Monterey.

Les chambres sont spacieuses à la décoration vieillissante, la salle de bain n'est pas des plus agréables, beaucoup de bruit au niveau de la ventilation. Hôtel bien situé à Monterey, 5 min à pied du Wharf, juste à côté d'un monument historique, plutôt calme à part les mouettes et une mauvaise isolation entre les chambres. Le petit déjeuner est dans une petite commune où le nombre de places est limité, si vous arrivez un peu après l'heure d'ouverture, vous risquez d'attendre une place. Mehr

Very close to SPIE conference center , and closed to Fisherman wharf . Old fisherman's Grotto is a good restaurant !
