254 East Vacation - New York

Im großen und ganzen waren wir mit dem Hotel zufrieden. Allerdings hätten wir bei einer einwöchigen Buchung erwarten, dass der Boden (Teppich) des Zimmers zumindest einmal vom Hotel gereinigt wird, zumal es eine Küche in der Suite gab, in der durch das Kochen natürlich zusätzlich Schmutz anfiel. Stattdessen versprach man uns auf Nachfrage, einen Staubsauger […] vor die Tür zu stellen, was aber nicht geschah. Das Zimmer war ansonsten wirklich gemütlich und die Lage gut. Der Preis für die Suite war wohl für NY noch günstig. Mehr

...it basically seemed to be somebody renting out his/her two room appartment. The rooms were spacious, clean and the hotel not too badly located in walking distance from Central Park on Upper East Side. OK for one night but not more. The key to the room was hanging on the door when I arrived, there was no reception and nobody that was available for […] questions like how long the main door will be open etc (b/c the key to the room didn't work in the main door). We were amazed for the price what an amazing value this hotel was. We needed to be in the upper east side so the location was perfect.

This is a good hotel if you are looking for something simple. You kind of get what you pay for in a very nice part of Manhattan. As a former New Yorker, I can say that the location could not be better. There is nothing fancy about the hotel, but it's comfortable, safe, and our room was very quiet. We also had a little kitchenette which was great and […] the space was large for NYC. On the down side, I would say if you are a clean freak (I'm not, but some of my best friends are!), this is not the place for you. It is clean, not immaculate. The plumbing in our room (3A) was pretty bad, banging pipes when you turn on the bathroom faucet. I have a big main of hair which I did not wash for the weekend as the water pressure was very low in the shower, I thought I'd never get the shampoo out. Mehr

Hotel service non-existing. Room was not serviced after day 1 of 2-day stay. Little hot water on AM of 2nd day and noone to complain to.

We had a very comfortable stay. Staying in an apartment was a nice way to sample New York City life. But this place is not for everyone-- parts of city living included a narrow staircase, no elevator, door knobs slightly off kilter...

I've already recommended this hotel to many friends and will be staying there again. I didn't know how to get into the hotel (this was first time to stay in a boutique hotel) so I called the number on my confirmation email and the gentleman who answered was polite and very helpful. The surrounding neighborhood is safe and quiet.

Great alternative to your typical hotel. Don't have luxury of your usual hotel lobby/front desk staff...but, during business hours contacting staff is an option. We had difficulty with the lock on our room. Otherwise, we had a decent stay and enjoyed the room.

It's within walking distance of Lenox Hill hospital at half the cost of Waldorf. Room #1 is small but includes it's own kitchen in a quiet, safe neighborhood with a Mediterranean Restaurant next door. Down side: Room #1 has a narrow staircase up to a loft bed with only 4' clearance to ceiling, but it's all mirrored, including the ceiling,...(insert […] your own fun idea here). My husband is a big guy and not a NYC native and after spending a night there he gave it all 5s. :) Mehr

This is an old building, a three floor walk up with no elevator! The stove in the kitchen was filthy. Skimpy, thin towels, only five for the entire week and no maid service. We saw a large MOUSE in the room the day we checked out!!!

For all of you complainers about hotel service, etc: This is the story about this place- You are offered quiet, great restaurants, peace- no staff knocking on the door asking if they can get into your room to clean, the convenience of cooking in the room and placing leftovers in a fridge, having a terrific dinner at a Turkish restaurant at the end of […] the street(delicious), no cabs or emergency vehicles waking you at odd hours of the night, convenient check in and check out, Madison Avenue Shopping.. This is a decent place at a great location in upper east side. I had a pleasant experience in general, however my room at second floor had the drapes ripped and I could not get them closed so sunlight was hard to avoid. Also, internet acces is limited only to the first floor.

Old, but clean. Quiet. Nice area. Close to Plenty. Safe. Perfect for my needs.

I think the location of the hotel was really great. There is no elevator, however, and there is no real front desk. I think that the hotel appears to be a number of converted apartments. The cost of the hotel is high, despite its goal of being a low-cost alternative in New York. I had no problem with the service. Danny was nice, and he did a great job calling me to check in prior to my arrival. He also helped hold my stuff in a room so that I did not need to carry my luggage with me all day. Very nice guy, and the place was clean, and quite large. The only thing that bothered me was the price. In DC, a comparably priced hotel would be a 5-star wonder. In New York, you can't expect too much for the high prices. Nonetheless, I would recommend this to others who are trying to maintain a low budget but still remain in an excellent area. The subway is close. The restaurants on the upper east side are great. And, overall, I think it was a nice place to stay. But, New York is indeed expensive. Mehr

This was a convenient location as my niece lives nearby. The place was comfortable but they could have had a few more amenities in the kitchen area such as paper towels, dish towels, instructions on how to turn the lights in the kitchen on and having kleenex in the bathroom.

The apartment is small but clean and well appointed. We were in Apt 1, which has a bedroom "loft" that is very small without much headroom. The bed was comfortable. The separate living room and kitchen were very nice. It took us several attempts to contact the manager regarding access to the apartment, but once that was sorted out everything went smoothly. […] The location is convenient, about 5 blocks east of the Park and 5 blocks from the closest Metro stop. Having lived in NYC for several years in the past, thishotel was perfect - not a hotel but your own apartment. We stayed in 4A and the bedroom especially is roomy and the kitchen, bathroom and living quite small but definately adequate. Those who wrote about cleanliness - yes, indeed, this is not the cleanest place and not the Plaza hotel. It felt more […] like staying at a friend's apartment: some dust on ledges and in corners and the crumbs still under the toaster. I would definately stay there again. New York Hotels in general suck compared to anywhere else. Having said that, I do reccomend 254 East Vacation because it is very much like having an apartment in the city rather than renting a room. I don't like maid service unless I request it. (There is none.) The apt was comfortable enough. Having a kitchenette was great. Closet space was weird and […] if you are over 5'7" you need to duck going into the bathroom. The loft bed was a little strange too, but hey, it's New York! Only complaint is that there is no Wi - Fi in the room. You have to go out into the hall to get connected. Five blocks from the 6 train, it is easy to get wherever you want to go in Manhattan. I would stay there again. All the rooms are different. Ours presented some obstacles that only the spry and nimble would ignore. It is not for older folks. Mehr

The place needed a good cleaning. The rugs in the bathroom were dirty and wet when we got there and smelled. The baseboards throughout the whole apartment were filty dirty and certainly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The bathroom had cracked tiles and broken soap dishes The microwave was very dirty. It was not worth the price.

Place was ok. Bathroom smelled a little mildewed. I was disappointed that the picture in the ad did not match what I actually rented.

very comfortable, very clean. Perfect for the traveler who does not want all the bother of a hotel. we had a great stay. I was contacted by the manager the day before my arrival, given the door code and parking information, and everything went as said. Great Location!!!!

Nice Location, reasonable price for the area. This gave us the authentic NY experience. The building is old, and some renovations would make it nicer, but it was decent place for our family of 5. The accommodation was as expected with the exception of the general tired condition of the facilities. Could do with a refurb. The kitchen was a bit dirty behind the cooker and fridge and clearly had not been moved for some time. Maybe I missed the point when I booked but there was no elevator so a climb to the apt was a bit of shock with luggage! Mydaughters and I really enjoyed staying in an apartment like a "real " New York resident during our visit to your wonderful city. It was small but clean and comfortable. We would do it again. It would be helpful if directions to nearest subway station was provided for the first time out-of-towners.

We have just returned from USA, the first 4 days spent in apartment 3A at East Vacation. This apartment was at the back and whilst spacious the only air conditioning was against the headboard of the bed and very noisy therefore couldn't be used whilst sleeping. It was extremely hot and the windows didn't open, it was also poorly equiped eg. no tea towel […] and very limited cutlery and crockery and wasn't cleaned once while we were there. On the positive side, it was in a very nice neighbourhood and it was good to have the extra living space. Mehr

My daughter and I very much enjoyed our visit at 254 East Vacation. The location is great, both convenient and quiet , and the rooms were thoughtfully decorated with character and comfort. I have recently returned from Italy and I found the atmosphere to greatly resemble a European pensione. We hope to return here often.

This is really not a '"hotel" per se. Rather an upper scale 'hostel'. You have your own bathroom, loads of privacy and a great locale. The kitchenette and cable TV as well as the secure feel all make this a best kept secret near the area that Sex In The City was filmed. Enjoy!

I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasently surprised. This is not your regular hotel but it is a great place to stay . I stayed in a small room, high ceilings, it had everything I needed. The bed was in a loft so if you have trouble climbing up small stairs this is not for you. They probably have other rooms.There's no maid service but who cares. […] Cannot beat the price for NY. This is actually a very place given it's price and location (normally hotel rooms in this neighborhood begin from $500 and up). Rooms are clean, spacious, min mini-kitchen, etc However, there are a few things to keep in mind: 1. No elevator. Room numbers are actually floor numbers. Therefore, try to get a room with smaller number if possible, going […] up 4 floors is NOT an excercise I'd recommend to everyone. 2. A/C unit is small, noisy and not very powerful given the size of the room. Avoid this hotel during really hot summer days and especially nights. 3. Checkout at 10am - could be inconvenient form some folks (in fact, they are asking to check out by 10:30, and you can in pinciple negotiate a later time). 4. No WiFi outside of the lobby (and there is almost no place there to sit) If you're OK with these problems, this is otherwise a great place to stay Mehr

Everything was perfect as promised. 2a had ro for all 5 of us and a kitchen to boot! The only negative was the cleaning crew showing at at 10:30 on the dot wanting us out. We were still packing up! A nice quiet place to stay, a local feel.

The room was priced for fair value. It was nice over-all. The location is what I was looking for. The check in was very easy. It was clean. I would consider it again if I were in that neighborhood. Perhaps a non-loft would be better for my purposes. It is a studio/loft. It was probably renovated in the 90's and could use some modern touches (i.e. digital […] tv) and fix up. The air may be marginal if it were greater than 90 degrees outside. The stairs to the loft might be a challenge for an older person. They are quite narrow. The bed is surrounded by mirrors. The kitchen seemed nice and functional. Overall it was a good experience. Mehr

Owner could have done a much better job at maintaining the building and the hallways, putting signs out for arrival (there is no one to great you), and giving clearer directions to the unit. The hotel, effectively an apartment building, is in a great location and in a beautiful street, but the lack of upkeep of the building spoils all that for you. […] Do not get there any later than 5:00 since there is no one to great you and you may need an hour or two to figure out the logistics of getting in. We stayed at 254 East Vacation hotel recently and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is more ofa rented apartment in a great location(Manhatan - few blocks from the subway and Central Park). It was clean, spacious and had it's own patio. Very reasonable rate for the area. Also, I left my watch in the hotel and was pretty sure it would never be returned. […] Danny, the manager, not only found it, but sent it back to me. I would definately stay there again. We were really looking for a hotel that had a separate living room and full size kitchen and we found it with this hotel. We wanted to make our morning meals and prepare food for our baby, so it was great to have the comforts of home amidst the big city. The hotel room was very clean and tidy. The beds were comfy. We didn't have the expectations of […] it being like a hotel and it was nice not to see hotel staff each time we walked in and out of the building. If you are wanting modern decor, elevator music, and room service, this is not the place for you. If you are fine with a nice clean space, full kitchen amenities, and room to breathe, this IS the place. The neighborhood is full of great restaurants and shopping that one can walk out the door and experience each day. The 6 line subway station is just 3-4 blocks away for accessibility to the rest of the city in a flash. Mehr

I think anyone thinking of booking here should call and get a full description before booking. This was described to us as an apartment, although it did have portions of an apartment it was more like half a studio. The place had every inch of space taken up from window to wall. When i walked in we seen a small leather sofa, table, and tv. A small but […] adoreable kitchen. The bedroom was up a single flight of stairs and once you get there we found a matress on the floor and a tv in the wall which only got two channels. This was like staying in a college kid's place while they were off on spring break. I did not see any service people during my stay. The "suite" was an apartment that had been sub-divided into a couple of units. The bed was smack up againt the front door; the sitting room was much larger than the bedroom. It was a hot day and the tiny window air conditioner […] was not adequate to cool the two rooms. It was no fun schlepping my bags up three filights of stirs and the halwway smelled of mildew. The neighbor hood was terrific, however, and the room die have an absolutely massive television. The WiFi connection was unbeleiveably weak and slow. Not the worst place I ever stayed in NYC, but close. Mehr

I was looking for an inexpensive hotel in the Lenox Hill neighborhood, and this fit the bill. For a few nights, it was fine. I would not have been able to stay any longer than the three days. The facilities are spartan, and the a/c didn't work well, so during 80+ - degree days, it was not comfortable; at night it would have been nice to be able to open […] a window since the room was stuffy, which made sleeping difficult. The neighborhood and walking commute to the hospital were perfect, with many delis and restaurants for meals. Sad that for what is charged a night, that's the best one can do in NYC. My stay at 254 East Vacation was wonderful. Sure there is no maid service but who cares. I make my own bed at home, I can do it here. The location is great, the apartment was clean and I enjoyed having a kitchen. There are many restaurants and shops nearby. The subway is a few blocks away as is Central Park.

this is a great location and great value for manhattan. the only drawback is the age of the building, and the resulting staleness& stinking which is common to all old NYC buildings. there is a Turkish restaurant next door, so the unit smells like Turkish food..the bathroom was clean on the superficial level, but stinky most probably because of the old […] pipes, and there is nothing that the management can do about it. if you are a clean- freak, don't even think about it. if you are okay with smells and staleness, and you prefer a real NYC apartment over the impersonal pretentious hotels, this place is great Mehr
