Great location especially for the price. The room was clean, decent size and extremely comfortable. The beds were twin, but what do you expect, it is Europe; and linens were plush and the bathroom was spacious and clean. It was about a 5 minute walk to the nearest subway and down the street from a grocery store, which is handy when you're eating on the cheap. It was about a 10 minute walk from the Museo del Prado and accessible to all the best neighborhoods via subway, bus or just walking. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.

I chose the Hotel Agumar because it is an easy walk to the Madrid Atocha train station. I found I could also easily walk to the Prado and other attractions. Moderately and modestly priced restaurants are readily available in the neighborhood along with banks and a small grocery store. Rooms are somewhat small but very comfortable. The staff is friendly and attentive.

Hotel had a great location -- about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the subway stop for the Prado museum. Extremely helpful front desk staff. My husband thought the beds were a little hard. I thought they were fine. The shower was wonderful, the room was quiet, and the air conditioner was efficient (exceeded my expectations by quite a bit).

Bewertet von T aus Hampshire am Apr 28, 2009
Although the Hotel is in a very nice area, minutes from the main train station in Madrid, there is public transportation that can take you everywhere from there. The room i was given could be used as a panic room. There was no day light reaching it and I could hear all the water coming down from the drains. Room size pretty small for a double bed but for single use. Prefer a room in upper floors. I might visit it again.

The best thing about Hotel Agumar was that it was about 5 minutes walk from Atocha Renfe (the main train station), from there you can hop on the metro to go just about anywhere in Madrid. The room we had was clean, spacious and the bed was comfy. Most of the staff were friendly. I needed a plug adaptor for my battery charger and asked the front desk late night and was told they do not have any at the reception desk at the moment but to come back the next morning so they can ask Housekeeping. When I did, without even checking, the morning reception clerk said she was sure they do not have any at all. I told her I was assured their housekeeping has them and only then did she relent and reluctantly got our room number. As soon as I got back to the room, there was a knock on the door and I was handed an adapter. So I guess the abrupt treatment downstairs was compensated for the quick service from housekeeping and I appreciated that. It is a good hotel for the money.

The review comments made by previous guests couldn't be more accurate. The hotel is great. Perfect location. Walking distance to the Prado and other museums as well as to the Atocha train station. By bus (the stop is a few feet from the hotel) you can go to the Plaza Mayor and Puerta Del Sol which are the center of Madrid. The personnel was courteous and friendly. The buffet breakfast is of excellent quality although a bit pricey (but then it's Europe). Taxis are readily available at the hotel site. Will stay there again on our next stop in Madrid.

This hotel is in a great location just a block away from the train station and the metro. It is also just an 8-15 minute walk away from the Sofia and Prado museums and numerous parks, plaza's and shopping districts. The service and cleanliness were excellent. My room was a little small but it was nice. I think they may have given me a smaller room because I was alone but it was still a great room. The staff was friendly and helpfull in telling me where to go and giving me directions to places of interest. The only thing I had a little concern with was the parking garage. It was a little small to navigate around so if you have a big car be carefull. I had a midize and still had some trouble moving around. There was plenty of space for you to park your car, just narrow turns in the garage. But then again that is an issue at many European hotel garages. Even when I came in late and asked for something the staff was always helpfull in getting it for me. I will recommend this place to everyone I know. Great location and great staff.

Javier (not sure of spelling), the Night Desk Clerk, was extremely helpful. I do not speak Spanish - I only know a few words here and there. He spoke English quite well. The day-time desk clerks I found difficult to communicate with. Hotel was within walking distance to museums and the Atoch train station. Convient to buses (ie:- to Plaza Major and other more distant locations.) The Agumar while old was clean. However, the terry "white" bathrobe provided in the bathroom looked very old and gray ... I wouldn't use it. I would have appreciated a magnifing mirrow for make-up purposes in the bathroom (other hotels on our tour of Spain did provide them). Also, I found the mattress to be rather hard. The bar lounge was small but confortable and inviting. The breakfast buffet was quite extensive and good. Considering the prices of hotels in Madrid this hotel was as expected for the money. However, I question the four star rating. Saving grace was the location.

I first stayed with the Agumar for 1 evening before my friend arrived in Madrid and we had another hotel. I was pleasantly surprised how nice the hotel is because I was unsure because it was a lower price. The only issue I had was that you could hear every noise in the hall. I then stayed again after 6 nights with my friend for another 2 nights and they gave me a free upgrade. Wow! It was to a suite and the room was excellent! I was very pleased and will stay there again! Clean, nice lobby, internet access, friendly staff. It is about a 10 min walk to Atoche Reinfe Metro stop and about a 15-20 min walk to Museo del Prado. It is not in the city centre but that is all within a bit of a walk or metro ride. The street outside is quiet compared to city centre hotels so it's a great deal! Thanks!

This is a nice hotel in a PERFECT location. You can walk to all of the sites and it is close to a very large train station if you want to take side trips. The room was clean and comfortable. The main problem is the noise. You can hear all the noise in the hallways, people walking-talking-getting on the elevator. Our room was in the front of the hotel so we heard A LOT of street noise. I asked for a room at the back (during check-in) but they said they could't move me. Aside from the noise it was a good choice.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. There were four of us visiting Spain for the first time. We found the hotel and the rooms to be very clean with nice amenities and above all in a great location. It was close to the Metro and the Museum El Prado and even the AVE train which we took to go to Seville. The only thing negative I have to mention is that it was noisy at night in the hotel. and that the city apparently picks up the garbage every night at 1:30 or 2:00 am. Perhaps there is a way the hotel can minimize the noise produced by the guests by having some kind of security staff around.
