The El Rey was great for a weekend getway. Pricing for our room was somewhat high. The outdoor spa was heaven and we used it every evening. The provided continential breakfast was average - no danish or bagels. The grounds were vey nice.

All the reviews were right about the El Rey Inn. Our room was on the courtyard and the weather was great so we would sit outside our room on the lounge chairs or eat outside at the table outside our room. It would have been nicer I think if we had gone in April or May when the flowers were in bloom but it was perfect for our needs. Very glad we stayed […] there Mehr

I have stayed at the El Rey for at least 15 times over the last 30 years, and each time is a wonderful relaxing experience. We particularly enjoy staying in the 'older' part of the hotel, but this time we were in the new addition, and it was just as relaxing. This is a cool motel-court style hotel with interesting architecture and history. It's pretty close to the touristy stuff in Santa Fe. The hot tubs were locked early because the maintainence man had to leave work early. So my mom and I were left walking around in the cold without getting to soak in the tubs. When I called to complain the front desk […] staff was less than apologetic. He basically said,'yeah, you and everybody else.' Breakfast at The Pantry was gross and greasy. A pleasant surprise (someone had recommended it years ago)--it resembled an older setting from the outside, but the inside was really up to and above standards for an elegant room. This motel was reasonably priced, within a short driving distance of the center of Santa Fe. The motel is representative of the architectural style of New Mexico with pleasant grounds. The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and beds comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Convenient to downtown with lovely gardens, but that's where the charm ended. Avoid the noisy room by the sauna. Fair breakfast and very pricey rooms.

One word: Fabulous!

Would not stay in Room # 75 again because it is very close to the Spa and the Spa is noisy. Motor in the spa goes all night long and we are across from it. The lights are too bright at the Spa also. Thanks. P. Pierce

The El Rey has character. Was built some time ago, but has been kept clean. The only little thing was that the refrigerator in the room made some noise. I told them when I checked out. The area where the complimentary breakfast is served is lovely. Plan to stay again.

You don't need to think twice about staying here: it's great

I stay at the El Rey every year when visiting Sante Fe to attend the opera. This is not the place for you if you want modern and large accommodations. However, if you want a clean efficient room with a lot of southwest charm, this is your place. Take advantage of the free breakfast and take time to walk through the grounds that are filled with native […] plants, cozy seating areas, and fountains. The El Rey is close to the Plaza and most major streets and shopping. It is a bit more expensive than some of the newer hotels but I don't mind paying more for an authentic Sante Fe experience and landmark. Mehr

If you want a taste of classic Santa Fe and not just a chain hotel...this is the place! The El Ray is so unique and like stepping back in time but with modern conveniences! The sitting areas found throughout the property were just wonderful! Chairs and lounges, fountains and beautiful architechure around every corner! The breakfast was wonderful, fresh […] tortillas and New Mexico Green chili, plus breads, granola and yogurt, boiled eggs etc. The swimming area was so relaxing and clean, nice sized with shade cabanas and nice seating. The hot tub tucked inside a little room with a fireplace and seating was very suprising. The room we stayed in was smaller since the property was built so long ago, but very nice and really clean! We will definitely stay again next time in Santa Fe~ oh yeah...dinner at the Tortilla Flats just down the road was wonderful and a stop in at the Jackeloupe store was well worth the time. Very cool!! This hotel was one of my favorites. I loved the atmosphere with trees & flowers everywhere. I spent alot of time outside reading with a glass of wine on the chairs & loungers located throughout the property. I recommend this hotel for those that want a true Sante Fe experience...it's not your typical "hotel".

Old roadside motel that's been spruced up to a boutique roadside motel, if there is such a thing. Not really close to the main attractions in Santa Fe but that means you can get deals. The breakfast is nice and the staff wonderful. Go into it with the right attitude and you will enjoy.

2nd time I've statyed at the El Rey and as always it's a wonderful place to stay. Very lovely! Goes with the terretoroy!

Loved it!!! The room was very Southwestern and rustic. A very comfortable bed and very clean. Loved the garden and the architecture...our favorite part our stay. We plan to stay again the next time we're passing through Santa Fe.

Easy access to Plaza and Pantry Restaurant

A friend had recommended this motel to me. She and her husband stay her every time they go on their trip from Denver to Tucson. The motel is charming with the beautiful gardens all around it and sculptures. Its and old classic with vintage appeal. I'm surprised at the many people from Denver who are familiar with the El Rey Inn and who have stayed at the motel. They all smile when they tell me of their experience at the El Rey Inn. Enjoyed 4 nights here in a well maintained, cosy old fashioned motel. Breakfast was good and supplemented with fresh fruit. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Located out of town, so you need to drive to decent restaurants and the sights of Santa Fe.

Have stayed here several times over the years, for the first time, very disappointed with the room for the price. Outside landscaping in need of work. Probably will not return.

This is an older motel, been somewhat of a landmark in Santa Fe for years. Once again, I think the rooms one gets through hotels.com are on the low end of what the hotel has to offer. This hotel is convenient, attractive, and friendly. The art works and hotel decor are wonderful, the breakfast is more than ample, and the outdoor areas with chirping birds are great to wake up to. Stay here if you are going to Santa Fe.

Well-kept, locally owned hotel with excellent continental breakfast, including helpful servers in lovely Spanish-style rooms. Enjoyed the NM flavor of the architecture Desk staff were especially helpful with directions, including good maps, highlighted for our use. Clean room and bathroom - well-maintained. My largest complaint was the rooms didnt not look like the pictures posted. Nice rooms, but very small. I could also hear my neighbors talking fairly clear and getting ready at 5am. Probably will not go back for the price.

The staff were pleasant and the Hotel was clean. They moved us further away from the road so it was quiet. Nice outdoor hot tub.

We've been there before and will stay again. This gives a good Santa Fe homy feel. The El Rey is a Santa Fe classic. It is not for those wanting modern, hotel chain amenities, but is a well-run, well-maintained classic motel with beautiful courtyards, fountains, plants and birds. Some rooms face courtyards, some you can park right in front of your unit. Funky northern NM furniture and decor, but rooms are clean and comfortable. Free […] WiFi and breakfast. Close enough to the historic downtown, but not right in the center of things where prices are 2x or 3x. Stay here if you want the real flavor of Santa Fe. Mehr

As an artist I was particularly susceptible to the charm of this hotel with its beautiful grounds, flowers, fountains, statues, and the uniqueness of each room. The housekeeping staff was especially wonderful.

This is an attractive, hacienda style motel. The decor is above the average motel decor. The continental breakfast was also above average, and even had some table service--fruit was brought to the table which was excellent. However, the bed was not comfortable--supposed to be a queen but felt smaller; the mattresss was soft. There was one maintenance […] problem; it concerned flexible reading lamps attached to the headboard. These were not operational so we called to have them fixed. We said we were out for the evening so plase fix them while we're gone. When we returned, the reading lamps had been removed completely with no explanation! The grounds of this property are rustic in nature and lend a pleasant ambience for having a glass of wine on the wrought iron table outside the room. Mehr

The decor is so nice, the motel layout is beautiful. The rooms are spread out, so there are spaces for plants and flowers, sitting areas. Potted plants are everywhere, to add to the feeling of calm. Elegant 30s style motel with Lovely cool gardens , pretty roomsand a great pool area for a motel. Reception staff very helpful and pleasent the El Rey is in a fairly good position to access downtown sights but easy to find when coming into town.
