Best Western Plus Gatineau-Ottawa - Gatineau, QC

The parking situation left much to be desired. I did not feel safe walking from the back lot with my young daughter. The lot backs onto to residential yard with no fence and the place looked really run down. I was worried I wouldn't find my car there in the morning. Unnecessary stress.

Hotel is very conveniently located across the Ottawa River. Within walking distance of Canadian Civilization Museum and a 20 minute walk to downtown Ottawa. Not fancy, good enough for visiting Ottawa. Had a beautiful view from the room of Ottawa. Staff at desk are bilingual, very friendly and accommodating. Pretty good hotel for the price. The surrounding neighborhood isn't too much to look at but it is very close to parliament hill and downtown Ottawa. Hotel staff were helpful and the room was very clean.

tTe hotel is not in Ottawa, but within walking distance to Ottawa, going through the bridge with beatiful view of the parliment building. Room is clearn but old. Pool is good. Breakfast is expensive.

went during winterlude. fantastic location and great view of parliament hill as well as all the winterlude festivities. the kids (5 and 6 years old) had a blast in the pool in the evening. the hotel staff was fantastic and parking was no problem at all. i had read previous post saying that they had limited parking, but i had a spot right out front and […] everytime i went out, there were spots available. my only complaint was that their hot water was not hot...my 7am shower was barely warm when i had the water turned all the way to "hot". other than the lack of hot water we had a great stay. Everything was perfect, clean and comfy but there was no room service.

Excellent location. The hotel staff was very friendly. The swimming pool was good, the water was hot enough. The building is very well maintained. Our room had 2 big double beds and 48" LCD TV with Videotron service and free WiFi Internet. The hotel' restaurant offers good food at reasonable price.

I stayed recently at the Best Western Gatineau with my family. Was nice, clean and the view was fantastic. But what is making a huge difference, is the quality of the staff. If I was a hotel manager, I would steal the staff there! Nice and warm welcome, helpful staff at the desk and fantastic lifeguard attitude toward kids. Need a place to sleep? You don't need anything beyond this. Comfortable bed, comfortable pillows (and tons of 'em!), and good shower, absorbent towels, plenty of room in the room. New iron and ironing board, free WiFi in the room... and that view of the Ottawa River and parliament! The service is exceptionally good! That alone makes it worthwhile. It's […] not a vacation-destination hotel, where you hang out there, eat, drink, swim, etc... no. It is a functional, comfortable, pleasant place to sleep with exceptional service. This hotel needs a extensive renovation. Everywhere you look is outdated and obsolete. It is rated as a three-star hotel, but I would not give it even two. I usually stay in the Ottawa side when I came to the area for business, and I thought is would be nice to try the other side. I chose this hotel because I assumed that Best western has higher standards, […] but it appears that I was wrong. Very disappointing ! Mehr

Being just across the river of parliament it offers a good view (on the riverside) and quick commute downtown to the market and rideau mall. Only problem I had was at late hours trying to get ahold of someone at the front desk. there is no buzzer/bell or phone to do so. Otherwise was enjoyable stay

This hotel is in a very convenient location, walking distance from the things to see in the downtown area. There is a small grocery store around the corner which is also convenient. We were in Ottawa during labor weekend and the hotel was full. We requested a refrigerator at check-in and were unable to get it until the following evening (we left the […] following morning). Understanding there may have been out of them, on account of the hotel being full, it was the way they handle matter that bothered us. We had to make a new request with every change of shifts because, apparently, nobody bothered to file a report. Otherwise, the room and the facilities were OK, except for the broken ice machines in the basement.... Overall, it was our feeling that the hotel was overpriced, compared to very similar hotels we had stayed the previous days in Montreal and Quebec. Mehr

Cleaning lady banged on our door twice before check out time which made my husband especially uncomfortable and rushed. Complained at front desk and she was concerned and sympathetic. Location was good. Hotel was older but the effort was there to make it as comfortable and clean as possible. Good value for money.

We stayed for 3 nights - staff were very friendly and courteous! Ate in the restaurant - was good as well. Room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Had a great view of the fire works from the Casino. Lots of sights near by. Museum, parks, water, parliment buildings etc. Would definately recommend the hotel.

Good location of the hotel, very close to Parliament Hill and Ottawa downtown. Limited parking space in front of hotel, but they have another lot at the back, which the receptions staff didn't bother to tell me about ! The hotel is in a great location. A short very scenic walk to downtown Ottawa. Although when checking in, the hotel gives you that truly 3 star feeling...screaming kids, long wait and a hurried check in when finally getting attended to, the room we reserved: "river view-king bed" was comfortable, very clean with a new mattress and great sheets. My husband and I had booked a king size bed for a night when we arrived we found out we were getting a queen size/ kitchenette.... they called this a "free upgrade" due to the kitchen which we had no intentions of using. Also the Hotel was packed (as it was the civic holiday weekend) the parking was ridiculous, all spaces were filled except in the very […] back lot which was under construction. We had to move pilons to fit. The service desk was always busy so you couldn't ask a quick question without waiting in line for a half hour. And the restaurant service was so slow that we left before our drinks arrived 15minutes and still no coke... there was only one other table seated in the darn place! Other then that the staff were very helpful when you did get to talk to them, the room was super clean and quiet. OH and take the stairs they are usually faster then the elevator I guess when it is a long weekend! Mehr

Hotel had great location but the parking was less than desireable. If you weren't able to get a spot out front you are forced to find a spot in one of 2 lots beside the building or behind it. THE ROOM WAS A DECENT SIZE AND VERY CLEAN EXCEPT FOR THE WINDOW SIL THAT HAD WATER DAMAGE ON IT BEHIND THE CURTAIN. This location has a new manager. She has the tendency to argue a lot. Two people who checked in front of me were angry due to her behavior. In my case, i wanted to extend a day of my stay. I asked the evening clerk about the empty rooms and he assured me that they had plenty of empty ones. In my morning when i went there manager insisted that they had […] no room and charged me almost one and half times for the double queen from what i initially paid for the room. unfortunately i had to stay another day in quebec but this time i booked hilton garden next to the airport which was cheaper for double queen and had a better and friendlier staff. overall i would say best western is not even close to giving good customer service. there is also construction behind best western. it looked like it would last another 6-8 months from what i saw. so during day time, you will hear a lot of construction sound. I had requested adjoining rooms but did not have them..a little disappointed

It is a older hotel that has been renovated. The rooms were a good size and it was clean. I would stay again. The only really negative thing was breakfast the waiter was all alone and after waiting 10 minutes I asked for a tea to take out because we were in a hurry.

stay was pleasant......rates were on a higher side though as compared to sister ones in usa)......gym had no machines available except tread mills........request for extended stay till 2pm was also declined for me....

The lady behind the counter could have, at least, smiled at us. We were there early and we asked if we could check-in a little earlier and she said: Check-in is at 4, I'll check if your room is ready. And the room was small and everything seem to be designed for short people. The bed and toilet, bath are so low. We are normal tall people and everything […] was really low. It is a okay hotel. Nothing terrible, the staff were nice but it's an old cheap building that would never have been great and only got worse with age. The beds were OK, the restaurant was pretty terrible (especially powdered eggs at the breakfast buffet) - out of all the places I've stayed in Ottawa this one has gone to the bottom of the list.

Our GPS found the hotel quickly but unfortunately there was little outdoor parking available. We managed to find the underground parking. 6 foot clearance to get into the parking garage. We had to pay extra for the parking. Effiently processed in and we went up to our room. Very basic room but quite clean. Beds were relatively comfortable. Very convenient […] location. Just by the bridge to Ottawa. Nice view of the back of the Parliament Buildings. Restaurant left much to be desired. Trek to the swimming pool was not worth it. The hotel was fine, and the location was perfect. A walk across the bridge took us to the offices we needed to get to. We cabbed to the market for $8.00, cheaper than parking and you don't have to find your car after. We were told our room would face the water, but it didn't, it faced a run down apartment. We kept our curtains closed for the stay. Overall […] for the $ the hotel was fine. One thing, Best Western usually has great breakfasts, but at this hotel it didn't start until 7:00! At 6:30 we couldn't even get a coffee. So if you have an early flight don't count at grabbing something at the hotel. Mehr

We stayed the weekend of the Ottawa marathon. Check-in was good, we were concerned that our room was right across from the elevator and it might be noisy but this was no problem whatsoever. Breakfast at the hotel was convenient and fast. It was OK. The only criticism we had was the condition of our balcony. The siding under the sliding glass door was […] off and insulation was hanging out, there were huge spiders/webs and it could have used a broom to get rid of these-too bad because the view of the parliament buildings etc. was spectacular . The race was at the 5K mark so it was very convenient to go to the end of the driveway and watch. We also had a fridge in our room which was nice. The room was clean and all in all this hotel served it's purpose for us and we would stay there again. Mehr

We stayed at the Best Western Cartier for one night on the May long weekend. The hotel hotel does not have enough parking, which we found frustrating (as we had to park at an off-site lot), but the rooms are clean and sufficient. We paid a bit extra for the room for a "river view". Unfortunately we were given a room on the second floor, so we weren't […] really able to see the river. We did have a nice view of the Ottawa skyline though, so we didn't bother complaining. The bridge to Ottawa over the Rideau is right across the road from the hotel, which is convenient. The bridge is quite long, so it's a bit of a hike to get over to the restaurants and stuff. But in nice weather, it's a beautiful walk. Additionally: there are a lot of crazy people that hang around in this area. They do kind of yell and make a scene, and a few individuals did try to stop us (and our two very small children) for a chat. We did find though that the police maintain a fairly regular presence, so it wasn't really that bad. I would recommend this hotel, but I think next time we'll try to book something in Ottawa. Mehr

Nice location, good hotel. A couple of "buts". (1) Breakfast is not free. Never in US/CAN have I seen breakfast that one has to pay for. Only $10, but still. Same goes for parking.
