I needed an overnight stay close to Reading. I'd previously stayed at the Penta Hotel, which I like, but on this occasion wasn't on offer. The De Vere Wokefield Park was being advertised at an amazing rate and I was looking for the catch, but to be honest there wasn't one. Although the hotel as being used by BMW for a golf day, the staff were attentive […] and I was served quickly at the bar and in the Restaurant. The room (E120) was spacious and comfortable. There wasn't a great view from the window, but that wan't an issue for me. The bed was very comfortable and although there was an intermittent drone from somewhere outside, it didn't stop me from sleeping the whole night through. The only disappointment was some black mould on the bath sealant and on the grouting near the shower. This however was more than compensated for by the De Vere offer and I had a 3 course dinner and a good night's sleep for less than the cost of a B & B Mehr

slightly dated once past the front of house, and gym could do with some free wieghts but other than that great hotel

Stayed a number of times at this hotel and this stay was OK. The hotel decor looks in need of an upgrade and nearly £5 for a pint seems excessive. I was a;so disappointed that the (paying) child having swimming lessons took a third of the pool whilst over a dozen other guests were restricted to the the remaining two thirds of the pool. The hotel was bright and clean, some guests forgot to be considerate early morning when playing golf. The room was pleasant but the bed poor, it rolled inward, could do with net curtains as golfers outside rooms. Staff very nice.

Fantastic stay, staff very friendly and room was just perfect. Although the hotel is out of town, if you have use of a car it really isn't that far, being out of the way means that it is nice and quiet and away from the stress of everyday life. Free hot drinks available, swimming pool/sauna and Nintendo Wii for guest to use just added to the relaxing […] weekend. Would have loved to have stayed longer. would go back this weekend given the chance! Mehr

Need to sort some staff training issues at reception - varies from superb to the "clumsy" - but that apart it is a very good venue with good food and free tea/coffee available 24/7; very handy for the motorway and within easy reach of the likes of Windsor. Very good "gormet" pub, recommended by the staff, just a 10 minute walk down the road. Rooms are […] standard De Vere and so of a good standard but if you can manage to upgrade to the Mansion House then this historic building is even better. Have stayed here a few times now and would happily do so again - especially at the very reasonable rates we have secured. The fact that the hotel is obviously geared to conferences and golfing does not detract - it is also very family - friendly. Mehr

Well bit of a let down really for a devere.. Turned up and the bedroom wasn't ready so settled to take advantage of the pool... It was freezing. Really not what I expected. The steamroom is actually a cars drive away in another part of the hotel... Bonus side that in the main lobby the tea and coffee is all from machines and free... So finally get […] the room and guess what it's not what was ordered.. so ended up walking for ages backwards and forwards to the desk to get it sorted... The bed was either very orthopaedic or made of concrete... not sure but my back is still recovering... So in all in all not the best night and shocking for a Devere. Mehr

This hotel is geared very much towards the business market and much of the space is given over to conference facilities. I can imagine if you have gone for a relaxing break then this could get a bit much mid-week but when we stayed at the weekend there were a good number of leisure travels and families. Our room was situatated in the executive centre, […] which didn't have as much character as the Manor House but the room was large and well equipped. The pool/spa were both nice to have on sight and although we didn't use the bar or restaurant they appeared to be popular. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good value hotel break. Considering how silent and remote the hotel is its so close to the city and M4 junction 11 that its perfect. Only problem was a broken shower.

Lovely break away although i was ill for stay, but nothing to do with hotel. Was lovely relaxing stay and have already booked too go back again next month. Nice hotel, great price.

To give some context, my partner and I were spending a night away from our kids so we booked in a De Vere because of their reputation. Our experience did not start well. The receptionist informed us that the restaurant was closed. We had to push her for an alternative. We were then told they have the SBG on site.. not knowing what this might be, again […] we had to push for clarification of where and what the SBG was. Disappointed that we could not have a restaurant meal - one of the reasons whe chose to stay in a Hotel, we went to the room which was very small, but of a good standard. We had a meal in the SBG "Steam, Bake, Grill" for the uninitiated, which is in a conference centre that is attached to the Hotel, was a buffet style and although the food was nice, was expensive for what we got and the atmosphere was more of an open plan high street food restaurant than the meal in a manor house as we had expected. Our sleep was then interrupted in the early morning by a fire alarm going off twice for 30 seconds at a time. After phoning reception to check the situation and be told that the alarm was faulty, the alarm then constently went so we evacuated the hotel. While I do not have an issue with being kept out of the hotel, because of the alarm I do have an problem that after we had been directed to the conference centre while the incident was being dealt with. Unfortunatly nobody came to tell the guests that they could go back to their room, and we were left to find out for ourselves with an hour wait. This is a large busy hotel, which has several conferences going on most of the time. A lot of people about most of the time, but did not have to wait to long for check in/ out Set in rural surroundings away from it all. Our room was quiet and we had a good nights sleep, even on a Saturday night. We had a low cost deal, so for us this was good value, […] breakfast (Extra cost) was only just about worth it. We were a little disappointed with this hotel. The setting (surrounded by a golf course) was beautiful but the hotel itself was not entirely what we expected. The room was reasonably comfortable but a little 'tired' and the bathroom especially was in need of redecoration. Not sure how well cleaned it was since we found someones dirty sock under the […] armchair. The main 'grill bar' was cafeteria type service and, to be honest, cafeteria quality but the price did not reflect this. One final point - the hotel was very difficult to locate in the dark and there was a remarkable lack of signs. The rear gate was closed and so in the end we had to follow the lights of the hotel twinkling in the distance and hope that eventually we would stumble across the entrance. Mehr

It is not every hotel that can boast a Mini and BMW 1 series in the lobby but I am not sure that many hotels would want to. I had to double take to make sure I was in the right place. When you arrive there is a very impressive driveway through the golf course to a sign that as far as I could tell did not say 'reception' on. I ended up at BMW's training […] facility, the golf course and the old manor building before convincing myself the first place I tried was the hotel. Once inside the reception was clear to see and service was good. The room was standard fayre but was missing a TV remote but other than that was clean and functional. The free wi-fi was an added bonus. I had a meal at the bar which was quite acceptable if a little small for the price paid. Overall the value for money was high for a prime location. Mehr

We decided to finish the Christmas break in style with a night away. The hotel is in beautiful surroundings, very comfortable and the staff are excellent. The room could have done with a spruce up but was spotless. I have stayed here before and had a more modern room. Although we didn't use the restaurant on this occasion, I know from experience that […] the food here is very good. Mehr

Wokefield park is an excellent hotel , good location and very neat and clean. I was a bit disappointed about cleaning the room service. We stayed for 4 nights and virtually everyday the cleaner who looked after the room forgot to replace one thing or the other everyday i.e. soap , shampoo. towels , tea bags or sugar. You can understand once or twice […] but everyday was a bit disappointing. Mehr

Lovley hotel staff really friendly and helpful and even helped with road directions free computer acess and printer is a bonous loved free coffe/tea facilities in reception area with sofa and chairs to just chill out we difnitley stay again

There was no air conditioning, only a desk top fan which blew hot air in the room as it was a hot day!! Also I was overlooking a party venue and it was very noisy up until midnight and considering I asked for a quiet room as I was studying, my request was not granted!!

We found the hotel's accommodation and surroundings to be of a high quality especially given the low room rate. The grounds are extensive. The hotel is well furnished. The pool, jacuzzi and sauna are good. The free coffee stations are most welcome. Also, the pool table was only £1 a game, and the crazy golf was only £1 per person - so all-in-all we […] felt satisfied that nobody was trying to rip us off! Mehr

Great experience in very pleasant surroundings. Excellent facilities and very helpful staff.

Up's = Setting/Mansion House(old)/Business Centre(new)/Receptionist and Facilities - Golf and Nintendo room great. Also outdoor activity company on site so did segway(boring) and archery. Downs = Reception at far end in (horrible) modern extension. Initially pleased to be given room in Mansion House. Then they 'phoned somebody(?) to check room was ready. […] It was at opposite end to only lift and involved more narrow stairs to get to 3rd floor. When we got there it was only small and was NOT ready! Wedding on 2nd. Day/Night. Disco/Noise 'til 2am Had to dress and go outside after they set off fire alarm! Mehr

The hoptel is set in wonderful surroundings and is totally relaxing with no modern day noise. Our largest reservation was that our room in the Executive wing was too small for an 8 day stay, we upgraded to the Mansion House. Executive wing in our opinion was hectic with it being meeting point for all activities offered by hotel, its corridor carpets […] were dirty and newly installed wireless TV service only had 2 channels working in the evening whereas during day there were many more - possibly bandwidth problem. Overall stay away from Executive wing and you will have a really relaxing stay.. Mehr

Large and inpersonal, the hotel was very tired and in need of some major TLC. Unfortunately, you could hear other guest above and at the side of you.

I've stayed at a few De Vere's over the last year or two; Theobald's Park and Hunton Park to name two, and they have been fantastic. This one however, was fairly woeful. Think Travel Lodge or Premier Inn. It's basically a business centre (The BMW accademy is in the same campus) with rooms attached and while it may sit in the middle of a PGA standard […] golf course...well...just try Theobalds Park for a grounds you'd want to explore or Hanbury Manor (which is a Marriot with a PGA course). The room I was in was not one of the refurbished rooms. As I said, adequate with as awful shower but more worthy of a Travel Lodge than what I'd expect from a De Vere. The receptionist said they couldn't accept a debit card to pay for room service, so I had to pay cash which I had to draw out from the cash machine in reception which charged £1.75. When room service turned up they guy had obviously just been for a cigarette break, stank my room out and then promptly told me he had no change. So while the receptionist was helpful when I needed to print something, the rest of the service I experienced was poor. Definitely wouldn't stay there again or recommend it to anyone other than maybe for a game of golf. Mehr

1. I had requested, in writing, a room in the Mansion House but was, instead, allocated a room in the business centre accommodation. 2. Had to wait in a queue for 30 minutes to check-out. 3. The previously ordered newspaper was not delivered. That was the bad news. The good news is that the staff are friendly and the hotel has a relaxing ambience well […] suited to a family get-together weekend. The buffet-style breakfast is worth trying before embarking on a round of golf at the top class course. Mehr

very pleasent staff and very helpfull, the hotel was clean and the room well presented. Possibly not used to the type of matress used but found the bed to be a bit uncomfortable. Ok for a short stay but possibly could not stay too long as back would not surive.

Stayed one night, booked because it had a pool. In the end did not get a chance to use to the pool as it we arrived late. Hard to find in the dark, due to roadworks at M4 junction changing the place of roads, and lack of signposts. Would certainly stay in this hotel again if we needed to stay in the area, although if you don't have a car taxi bill's […] might add up quickly. Mehr

Clean rooms, the beds was quite possibly the worst bed I have ever slept in.. the corridors seemed to have leaks and maintenance work going on. I would not recommend staying here, unless they update the beds.

If you don't mind being off the beaten track, this is a lovely setting for a hotel. The staff are also organised and friendly. Those really are the highlights. Setting aside the age of the building and the dire need for refurbishment to lose the 1980's feel, I find it astounding that a large hotel chain cannot lay on even a limited hot food menu after […] hours. At this hotel it is cold sandwiches only after 10pm. An absolute basic requirement of any hotel is for a comfortable bed. Being fair, I think the floor would have been a more comfortable option. I'm not really sure why they'd invested in flat screen TV's when the mattress was in such a state either given there were only 4 channels to choose from (back that '80's theme!). Lastly, watch out for De Vere's £2.50 Credit Card Surcharge sting - how many people DON'T use a Credit Card to pay their hotel bill? I'd go again, but only if it was the last option in the area. This was a pleasant surprise. Yes it is a golfing and events hotel, but it had a small pool, and gym ,nice bar area with food and a resturant. As a solo lady traveller i felt really at home. No walking outside to the pub next door for dinner.Breakfast was hetic but my what a selection. For the price a bargain. Will definitely try and stay here again […] if in the area. Mehr
