We stayed at EDSS 3/7-3/14 in the regular garden view suite. At this resort, there is no reason to upgrade unless there is a good deal of resort credit for amenities you plan to add with a specific room category. The basic suite is comfortable and roomy. The bed was superb - even by US standards instead of Mexico ones. The maid service was timely, excellently […] done and a small tip resulted in gorgeous towel animals each day. Twice we had to request our mini-frig be filled according to our preferences but we think this was due to the switch in private concierge. The food was exceptional by any account and for AI unbelievable. Especially on the beach it was necessary to tip to get consistently attentive service. If you don't want to tip, be prepared to get your own drinks after one or two rounds. Beach has small area direct entry but wear beach shoes. Plenty of beach beds, hammocks and chaises. Resort was at capacity and was quiet, able to find seating and never hardly heard any other guests when in room. We were in 1812 which was very central location. Mehr

Pros: Active participation by the guests, plenty to do, beautiful, and great food. Cons:Sand not as soft as other beaches, bed/pillows did not agree with my sleeping habits, service could be improved by adding additional servers.

The hotel was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful overall. We had a little trouble finding a place to print our boarding passes - something that should have been easy; other than that, the personal concierges were great. The hotel uses towel cards to limit theft - a little off-putting, but you can get additional cards from your personal […] concierge if you like more than one towel at a time. The resort was pretty full when we were there, but we did not feel crowded and only had to wait at a restaurant once. Warning: there are no jacuzzis available on the property. Theoretically, there is one at the spa, but they charge $20 per day to use it, it is nowhere near the pools and the beach, and we were told it was shut down during our stay (although they continued to advertise it). The beach is nice - a bit of a sheltered lagoon, though, which means no wave action. The spa is almost new and also very nice - no sauna or steam room, but a nice variety of treatments (try the 80 minute detoxifying scrub). Automatic service charge is added to your bill. They advertise themselves as a gourmet resort - apparently that means you get to order from a menu instead of picking from a buffet all the time. The food was good, but not what I would call gourmet. A nice bonus - they offer room service at no additional charge. Overall, a nice place, but not exceptional. Mehr

This was the 6th all-inclusive, adults-only resort I have been to, including 2 others in Mexico. I would consider returning which is not something I would say about the 5 others. If you like to snorkel, this resort is worthwhile as there is a small reef off the beach with lots of fish. However, the water is very shallow going out about 300 yards off […] the beach. The beach is not the ultra fine powder type that you see in other parts of Cancun and Riveria Maya. However, it is not bad. The food is very good. I would not call it "gourmet" for every item served, but they try hard. The restaurants are good, especially the italian and asian places. The service was execellent. This was a very nice hotel overall. The room was nice although quoting the room we had as an ocean view room was an overstatement. The palm trees and distance from the beach didn't allow one to view anything but coconuts. The abundance of beds and thatched huts was good and necessary since we vacationed in August so it was extremely hot and sunny. The […] beach was narrow but long so there was enough space to relax and enjoy the time. There is an abundance of pools if you don't like sittng on the beach. The food was really good and the variety of restaurants allowed you to have a different experience every night which was a positive. We went to all 5 of the indoor restaurants for dinner and enjoyed very one. Service at the restaurants was good not great but all the staff was very enthusiastic. The one thing that really bothered me was they seemed to push extras (spa, lobster dinner, special discount on return visits) fairly aggressively and I was unimpressed. Experience with the concierge service was mixed mostly positive but I think they could have been more pro-active- I mentioned my husband's birthday and they didn't try to do anything special. A birthday card or anything would have shown a level of service that we're used to seeing at other resorts such as Sandals. Overall it was a beautiful place with good not great overall service. I would go to another El Dorado resort if it was in line with my vacation plans. Mehr

The staff was unbelievably polite all the time. We were very impressed. The grounds were beautiful, the rooms very clean and also very nice. We had a small issue with the toilet which was fixed immediately. Food was delicious and we very much enjoyed every meal we had. The only thing I would say wasn't really good were the mixed drinks. The stand out things at this hotel for us were the wonderful food and the beach bed set up. It was perfect place for the type of vacation we were looking for. Very chill, beautiful ocean, amazing food.

Mucho gracias to Luis for making us feel very special the moment we arrived! We hadn't eaten while traveling and it was mid-afternoon. Almost immediately, Luis arrived with a seafood burrito that was AWESOME and returned with the "something fruity" drink I had requested, as we sat on the beach and soaked up the hot Mexican sunshine. He was also our […] waiter later that night at Mia Casa and continued to make us feel that we were the only people he was there to take care of. Kudos to the whole staff at this hotel who seemed to enjoy serving us, remembered what we drank, and went out of there way to take care of us! We were there to soak up the sun, relax, eat and drink and that is what we did. My husband was disappointed in the beer selection( the last place we'd stayed had Corona cans on the beach). They only had Dos Equis on tap, or Tecate cans in the room, but he quickly came around to Tequila and/or mixed drinks! We didn't take any extra tours, stayed 7 days and I feel there was still much we didn't get a chance to do at this resort. There was a good mix of ages that we met, from honeymooners to silver anniversariers. It wasn't exactly action adventure but the food, drink, and relaxation aspects are priceless! Mehr

Food was amazing! Service was amazing! Entertainment was fun, a little silly sometimes, but fun. Bars were so cool!! Room was beautiful! Loved the double sink vanity. El Dorado Seaside Suites is a wonderfully quiet resort with above average food and excellent service. We chose this resort because it is adults only and gourmet all-inclusive (and it was 35% off!). The gourmet all-inclusive is a bit deceptive, especially when it comes to the 24 hour room service. There are four restaurants, all gourmet and all excellent […] in selection, presentation, food quality and service. There is also two informal grills. The grills and room service are not gourmet by any means, although they have a small selection of good, average food. The only real complaint is the obscene extra charge for lobster (about 4X what you would pay in the US!). The grounds are lush and always immaculate. The beach is not much to speak of, but there are plenty of shaded and unshaded beach beds that are a great place to relax. PROS: service, food in restaurants, spa, no kids! CONS: ridiculous prices for lobster and dinner on the beach, poor selection for room service. Mehr

Since our last visit in 2005, the grounds have turned into a lush tropical paradise (we arrived just after a hurricane came through the area in 2005 which had stripped all of the palm trees and destroyed some of the palapas). Now completely restored, the resort is beautifully maintained with staff working on keeping things neat, clean and trimmed constantly. […] The thing that differentiates EDSS from the rest is the simply fabulous restaurants. Each one unique and each one gives elegant service, great food choices and first class presentation of the food. The servers are attentive and call you by name throughout the meal. Latin, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Continental...it is all wonderful. We normally never repeat destinations when on vacation, but EDSS is the exception. In fact, I proposed to my wife of 24 years on this trip and we plan on renewing vows at EDSS next year on our 25th anniversary! (she did accept) Romantic, relaxing and lots of activities...its a great place for any vacation. Mehr

My wife and I had a wonderful time at this hotel. The restaurant service was excellent, and the food and beverages were of good quality - all a la carte if desired. There was a super choice of restaurant types. Service to the cabanas could have been a little faster, but not much. Hotel in a super location, with a small private beach, decent snorkeling, […] and very good site entertainment and activity coordination. Highly recommend the personal massage on the beach. Pools were very nice, and the ability to swim from your room to a bar is not to be sniffed at! Disappointed in that the beach front room we had was shielded from the beach by the tops of some palms. Hopefully, in a few years, when they grow some more this will not be an issue. One annoying thing with the room was a light that was triggered by movement. It took ages to switch off. Otherwise, room was very nice. Not much in surrounding area to hotel, but that was not a problem since we did not want to leave the site, such was the service. Still, would have liked a better jogging/running route. In summary, a beautiful place to take a loved one for a completely relaxing break. Would also be a great place to take several couples. Mehr
