Days Inn & Suites - Groton

This stay was horrible...the staff was nasty...the room was filthy....and the hotel smelled like curry...nasty nasty nasty....they offered a continental breakfast and they had a member of the staff standing in the room telling what and how much you can eat and stopped us from bringing a cup of coffee or tea back to our room.....We will never stay in […] this or any Days Inn ever again........ The room wasn't clean. The sheets had stains on them and so did the towels. The shower worked horriable. The bed was very uncomfortable. Wasn't satified at all.would never stay there again.

As stated earlier, the innkeeper/manager was extremely rude to guests and employees alike! He reprimanded many employees & guests in front of other guests. He was very short and abrupt with everyone. We stayed at this hotel a year ago and he had the same attitude then. When we realized we had a reservation with the same hotel as before, we were unable […] to change/cancel our reservation. Management was friendly. I just felt my room was outdated,not to mention the rusty shower curtain rod. Glad we stayed for one night.

I went to check in and there was no staff at the desk. After standing around and knocking on counter, another customer walked by and said call the hotel and someone will come out to help you. That was my only complaint. Room was fine, easy access to hwy.

This place is a bargain. The suites are large. There were not any dishes or cooking utensils in the kitchen but that was easily remedied by a Wal-Mart trip across the street.. The staff is friendly. The price great. My third stay at this place. I'll go back.

The room wasn't old and dirty, broken end table, dirty furniture. Was not impressed.

I would NOT recommend this Days Inn to anyone. The "lobby" smelled, the room smelled. The bathroom exhaust fan was hanging out of the ceiling. There was a large hole near the base of the tub, and lest someone forget where they were staying, "THE DAYS INN" was carved across the front of the in-room refrigerator. Even though I paid for my room thru hotels.com, […] they required a copy of my credit card for "incidentals." After actually getting a look at our room, I can't for the life of me figure out what possible incidentals I could be charged for. There are much better places to stay in the area. Try the Best Western - it was a very pleasant place to stay! Mehr

I thought the hotel would be a lot better. One of the smoke detectors in the room was missing, had to wait 10 minutes at the front desk at check in (because the check in person was no where to be found), the hotel had a strange smell, very outdated, there were stains on the sheets.

Our stay was pleasant. The tub was disgusting and the iron was attached to the ironing board, but we were pleased with our overall stay. I would recommend staying here for a stay that's not too far from various sights.

The hallways were very hot. The room smelled of urine and the moth balls in the bathroom did nothing to hide the smell. Looked like vagrants living there and wandering around outside. Doors propped open all night. Free breakfast was worth about as much as it cost!

Location was great and price was reasonable, but owners seem to not know the meaning of the word "maintenance". Just a little TLC would change my rating from 3 to 5.

The room was renovated recently, its nice, but you can tell it wasn't always. It smelled of mothballs in the bathroom (gross!!) and the temperature dial was broken in the bedroom, so it got very cold at night. Also the breakfast is not top quality, frozen waffles, bagels, eng. muffins, cereal and mini-donuts. only 2 toasters. but great shopping/eatery […] area. and for one night, a great deal. Mehr

This hotel is disgusting, it is dirty, they have bed bugs The Department of Health needs to come to visit this hotel. The front desk is horrible. The rooms are dirty, the linens were dirty. Horrible

Maybe it was just our room. Room 402. Broken door lock. Unsleepable pull-out (pad old and thin. Sheets handed to us at check-in. No pillow or blanket in room. TV in bedroom no remote. Despite non-smoking room smelled of perfumed covered smoke. No water pressure in shower. Lucky we only stayed one night.

Okay, I admit...I knew going in that it wasn't going to be the perfect hotel. However, it was beyond not perfect. Our room was spacious but I was afraid to walk around it. There was a hole punched in the wall and the refridgerator also had fist dents in it. When I went to the bedroom, as per usual, I did a bed inspection. The blankets and unfitted sheet […] appeared clean. Then I got to the fitted sheet. They obviously hadn't changed it in a while and there were 'hairs' all over it. Then came the bathroom. The shower had a very obvious similar type of 'hair' on the wall- something that couldn't have been hard to miss when they cleaned the bathroom. The walls were all stained and the shower made this awful squealing noise it sounded like a tea kettle. If your purpose is to find a place to stay with your family or significant other during a visit to Mystic, pay more and go somewhere else. If you're with a bachelor/bachelorette party and on a budget, sure stay here but bring air mattresses and shower sandals. The owners and staff were also very cold and unfriendly Mehr

Pros: Room was clean, for the most part comfortable and very large. It had a fridge an older CRT TV and was well lit. Cons: Pool was a little small, had to wait over an hour for them to have our room ready, then were not notified when it was ready. Love curry but the smell was always evident in the hallways. Internet reception was inconsistent. Hotel […] could use some updating. Overall a good stay for a night. Mehr

Room was supposed to be non-smoking, but there was a distinct smell of cigarette smoke in and room and an ashtray available. Also, when I reported a problem with a spill I found in the elevator, it took over an hour to get it covered up and more time to get it cleaned up.

GOOD LOCATION, CHARGED US EXTRA $20. PER NIGHT FOR KIDS. I BOOKED A SUITE THAT SLEEPS 4 AND HOTELS.COM DIDN'T ASK ME AGES OF KIDS. I CALLED HOTELS.COM AND THE CALLED HOTEL. HE SAID HE WOULD REFUND THE MONEY BACK.

The hotel is what you expect for the price, but even saving that much money wasn't worth putting up with the extremely rude receptionist. The breakfast looked shady, being served out of plastic bins. the towels were threadbare and felt like drying with sandpaper.

This was the most DISGUSTING hotel I have ever seen in my life. The front desk clerk, if you could find him, barely spoke english, and was rude and unhelpful. He kept questioning how I got the rate I did on the internet, and was telling me that he could get double that rate if i was not staying there that night. The room we stayed in was FILTHY. The […] bed had womens hair on the pillow, and pubic hair in the sheets. The TV did not work. There were blood stains on the shower curtains, slime on the floor, popped pimples on the vanity mirror, toothpaste in the sink, poop stains on the toilet (that didnt flush). The "cleaning crew" was comprised of one elderly man, who also didnt speak english, and clearly is uneducated on american standards of cleanliness. It was a privately owned days inn, and it definitely gives the chain a bad rep. I will never stay in another days inn again because of this hotel. STAY AWAY!!!! Mehr

The hotel itself is rather nice and the employees are pleasant. The windows and mirrors in our room were filthy, so I took a wet washcloth and washed the mirror. Kept the curtains closed so I didn't have to look at the windows! All in all it was a good stay with a very comfortable king size bed. Would stay again.

Room was dingy and cold upon entering. There was what appeared to be a pubic hair on the seat of my toilet and the sink was not clean. I found a bottle of personal lubricant on the side of the bed, which told me that obviously alot of care was not taken into cleaning the room. Upon check in had to wait 5 minutes for front desk clerk to appear. Poor english and did not communicate well. Posted breakfast hours 6am to 10am. informed no breakfast till 7am. Suite room did not have much for furniture. BLACK MOLD on sink strainer and in drain. Room adequate but no extra pillows for pull out coach. At breakfast next morning while […] preparing food to take to room informed that food not allowed to be brought back to room because of making a mess in room. Why does room have microwave, mini kitchen, and refrigerator if they don't want food in room. What about take-out. WHEN TRYING TO CHECK OUT AGAIN NO DESK CLERK. HE WAS IN BREAKFAST ROOM TALKING TO ANOTHER EMPLOYEE. HE THEN STOOD AND WATCHED ME PREPARE BREAKFAST. I GUESS TO MAKE SURE NOT TAKING TO ROOM. Second time I have stayed here. Based on the reviews, I would have had my hesitancy about staying at the Days Inn in Groton. However, my husband and I have been staying there for months now (sometimes for a night, sometimes for a week) and even though everything isn't perfect, the price can not be beat. If you are kind to the hotel staff, they are kind to you. If anything is wrong […] with your room, or you are unhappy, ask for a change. Sometimes it seems like the luck of the draw - but mostly we have always had rooms that were clean and comfortable. The hotel is 10 minutes from Mystic! 10-15 minutes from the casinos - I mean, you really can't beat the location. I always enjoy the free, simple breakfast, and I always enjoy (as does my wallet!) my stay at the Days Inn in Groton. Mehr

The hotel itself is fine, the service leaves something to be desired.

we were very surprised @ the size of our room as we didn't expect a suite, at the DAYS INN AND SUITES IN GROTON CT. It has a great location near Conn.'s best attractions and could really benefit with remodel and renovation.Our room was clean but there was an odor of "old and some must" but I think if the carpets drapes and a few other cosmetics it could […] be great. Convenient and easy access to major hyways. Breakfast was staple fare, but good. Hotel was a bit warm in the public areas, but the room itself cooled off nicely. Pool was private.

This hotel was at a great price so we didn't expect much and it was a last minute booking...the smell of this hotel is of curry, old food, and roses all mixed together. It is bad when you walk in, gets worse in the elevator, and by the third floor we couldn't breath it in. The room smell was not as bad but the appearance of the room was not up to par […] either. No decor, light didnt work, clock was broken, hard bed, floor needed vacuuming....and I am not picky or easily grossed out. But the smell in this place stuck with me for days after leaving from staying there that one night...all of my things reeked! I would not reccomend although staff was very nice! Mehr

I think that the rooms are a little out of date and are definitly not top of the line. a few stains here and there but for the price it was great. A third of the price at mohegan and foxwoods for a night and the rooms was twice as big. about a ten minute drive and there was a nice little dinner next door for breakfast. It was three rooms 1 living room/full […] kitchen, bedroom, and bath. Along with two 32 inch tvs with cable in both rooms. The couch was a pull out so i guess you could save money and have more people in one room. Over all i think that it was great for a last minute trip without spending to much on a room. Mehr

Walked into room and your nose was hit with funky smell. Beyond that, carpets needed vaccuuming. Front desk provided room deodorizer, wasn't enough to mask the smell. Linens were clean. Bed was comfortable. Must have been the carpet. Plentiful continental Breakfast.

There were a ton of things that really made this hotel standout including, proximity to Route 95, easy access, right in the backyard of casinos, big comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and fantastic prices.

I was surprised that the hotel was as decent as it was for the cheap price per night. My fiance, daughter and I stayed two nights and it was pretty clean and they had a small pool which my two year old loved! The staff was friendly and helpful. The only small issues I had was the weird smell that was in the hallway, but it wasn't in the room so it didn't […] affect me too much. The other was the continental breakfast was a little cheesy made up of eggos and dry cereal. But the room was cheap enough so we went out for breakfast! Mehr

Good hotel for the price. There are other hotels in the area with restaurants in-house, but this hotel does not have one. It does offer a 10% discount at the local Applebee's. The staff absolutely bent over backwards, and I think that's worth something these days.
