Yosemite View Lodge - El Portal

Here's the best advice I can give; buy gas in Mariposa. Hotel was edequate, but slightly used, at least our room was. Less than 5 minutes you're in the park. I'd go there again if there was a good internet rate.

This is just outside the El Portal entrance to Yosemite. It is much more convenient for visiting Yosemite Valley than the Tenaya Lodge which is near the southern entrance to the park and about 1 hour from the valley compared with this hotel which is 1/2 hour drive from the valley. The Tenaya Lodge is a much nicer facility but this is nice for the price […] and has a mini kitchen which is really convenient. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future. Mehr

We had a fabulous room, with an awesome view overlooking Merced River. Only 15 minutes to Yosemite Valley. Kitchen in room was great, I love to cook so we didn’t try the restaurants, but there are several restaurants at the hotel, or nearby. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our room.

I was happily surprised when I arrived at this hotel. First and probably the most Important is the convenience to the center of Yosemite park. It was a simple 20 minute drive, 10 miles to half dome. This was key given the long distance of other hotels other than the village. The staff was friendly and check in was quick. The property has all the amenities […] available to relax and provide a relaxing stay. The room was large, very clean and included a kitchen dinette. It is not the four seasons or ritz, but I would stay here again in a heart beat! Mehr

First the hotel put us in a room with 2 queen beds, when we reserved a king. Then they "upgraded" us to a river-view room, but, the fireplace kept shutting itself off, the TV only worked when it wanted to (that kept shutting itself off too), the coffee maker was missing and the ceiling light over the jaccuzzi tub flickered like a lightening bolt, until […] it finally died! The help acted like they were doing us a favor taking us in! Since there aren't many other hotels in the area, there aren't too many choices, but, I wouldn't be in a hurry to return here! Mehr

Good points. Convenient location for park and Badger Pass Ski. Economical. Dogs allowed. Rooms were fine, beds were average comfort. River is nice but in our four night stay we were always gone anyway. Kitchenette is good and a must. Here's where we take points off. The restarant is bad. Not unhealthy but, aside from the salad bar you prepare yourself. […] The cook can't cook. The prices average about $20.00 a plate and even in this location can't be justified. Go to one meal at the Awahanee, buy what little food there is at Yosemite Village or better yet, fully stock up in Merced or other larger town. Yosemite is least crowded I've ever seen and the hotel is fine. Just heed my advice.. Mehr

Sorry to say but for the price per night.........the rooms are old.....the bed sheets are worn out......the rooms are NOT! exceptable.....they need to start spending some of that profit updating the rooms and give people what they pay for...very disappointed.

We have stayed at the Yosemite View Lodge numerous times, but will think twice next time. And we would now recommend this hotel but with reservations. The hotel is in a great location and when the price is right it is a great deal. But this trip they put us in a room above the office on the highway side. It was literally 40 feet from the highway with […] no sound wall, etc. Once the cars start heading in to work at Yosemite at about 6am forget about sleeping. Throw in our neighbors arriving at all times of the night without consideration for others and you get the idea. Tough to sleep after exhausting days of skiing, etc. Mehr

As advertised. Opened door to balcony with the beautiful Merced River flowing right outside. You do hear the river at night, which for me was great. Enjoyed the sound. However, if you are a light sleeper and prefer not to hear the river, do not choose River View. There are other nice rooms available. Close to Yosemite. Short drive up the road to the […] park. Mehr

In January, there are not a lot of places in Yosemite National Park to stay in comfort. This hotel is just outside the Merced River Entrance and within half an hour you are at Curry Village parking. There you can leave your car and use the shuttle bus. Ignore the bad reviews, I do recomend this establishment.

Nicely located just outside of the front entrance of yosemite. The hotel was mediocre. Bedding had a strange odor. Jacuzzi spa wasn't fully cleaned as it had hair from previous guests. The air conditioning unit kept on making a clicking sound throughout the night and we had to call the front desk twice to adjust the blurry television channels. This hotel is minutes away from the entrance to Yosemite. After long day of driving and hiking to come to this hotel with it's nice indoor pool and spa hit the spot. Then we could be back in the park the next day within minutes! We brought our own food so the kitchenette was perfect. too!

Stayed here during winter at the 'sub-century dollar' lowest rate. Got a very large room with two queen beds, large bathroom, kitchenette and TV. Everything was pretty standard quality, but there was nothing that was broken down either. The lights are all fluorescent bulbs, which although eco-friendly, did not provide very sufficient light in the room. […] There was an indoor pool in my building, but you had to walk outdoors to get to it, so not so great to do that in a towel when it was 28 degrees out! There is no available wi-fi service anywhere except the side room of the main lobby, where they use a provider who charges $9 for 24 hours. Cell phone service is on the Verizon extended network (still no data service on smartphones), and who knows about AT&T (likely worse if at all). The restaurant, The River, is decent yet somewhat expensive fare, since there's no other game in town. They serve breakfast and dinner, and there's also a pizza place next door. Still, this was a very good place to stay, just two miles outside the Arch Rock entrance of Yosemite Valley. It is relatively new and clean. Mehr

Wish we had skipped staying in the park and stayed only at this motel. It is modern, clean, spacious. The diningroom has a very nice ambiance and the food was excellent and a normal price. It is right outside the park, but it only takes ten minutes to be in the middle of Yosemite Valley.

The biggest plus is the location. There is a decent convenience store on site for basic needs.

The room was spacious and clean with all conveniences we required. The setting is spectacular as the Merced river is clearly visible from all units within 100 feet or so. The location is only a mile or so from the gateway to the yosemite park.

Located just outside the park, this is a large hotel (many buildings) that features 3 pools and an on-site restaurant. The room was clean and fairly spacious. The bed was a little too hard, the pillows hard also, and there were no extra blankets... however, it was quiet - and it was great to have a kitchenette and coffee maker. The lodge far exceeded my expectations. The positives: The room was great as it included a kitchen, balcony and very large bathroom. Lots of space. The lodge is located just minutes from the entrance to Yosemite. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The lodge is beautiful and has a gorgeous location. The indoor pool is open until 10pm. The […] negatives: This might be a positive for you, but it bothered me - You are completely cut off. I had no cell phone reception and the wifi is limited to the hotel lobby at a rate of $9. Can't access internet from your room. The lodge isn't located in a town - unless you are camping, there isn't a lot to do once the sun sets. Food is expensive (which is to be expected) but it tastes terrible. There is only 1 restaurant on the grounds and only 1 bar. The nearest towns are about 30 minutes away. It had great amenities, fireplace, fantastic balcony overlooking babbling brook. As convenient as you can get outside of yosemite. I liked it and I'd recommend it. Some of the staff were kind of depressing though, and they were terribly inflexible about early check in. They did give an hour extra for late check out and that was nice.

Great place to stay nearby Yosemite; pet friendly too. Highly recommended!

This lodge was fine, the restaurant very good and location just outside the park entrance convenient, unless you thought you were staying on the Valley Floor! The name is almost the same as the one in the park. Yosemite Lodge-at the falls! Tried hard not to book this one and somehow we ended up here. So we were dissappointed but it turned out that this […] lodge had a lot of facilities, balconies, kitchenette and more than there would have been at the Yosemite Lodge -at the falls. One plus was that we did not have to empty our car at night in fear of bears! This area just has Racoons that are hungry! Mehr

The Yosemite View Lodge was a great place to stay for our family of 4. Very clean and comfortable and so close to the park. I loved the little kitchenette! Had a nice dinner at the restaurant on the premises. I would definitely stay again.

This is a very convenient place to stay without having to pay high priced park hotel/lodge fees. The upgrade to a creekside room was well worth it. The room was very roomy, cozy with the gas fireplace, and we used the in-room jacuzzi each night. We would come back and we recommend it to others.

Our trip was a last minute decision. YVL had vacancies available. Turns out they're the last hotel west of the Yosemite west entrance. Surrounded by the beautiful Sierras, and right on the Merced river. Our patio was facing the river. Spectacular! We wished we had booked for more than one night. We will next time. We stayed at the Yosemite view lodge in October for 2 nights. The hotel room was good. This is quite a big hotel complex. It is literally right outside the entrance to Yosemite, About a 10 min drive to Main area. It had indoor and outdoor pools which were good. I would stay here if inside of Yosemite is fully booked. We had a pizza from hotel and it […] was good as there are no other places to eat near hotel. Yosemite NP is one of the most spectacular places i have ever seen. Even though the decor is a little bit outdated, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the kitchenette.

Good quality motel. Great location.

Lodge is right outside the west gate. Staff were efficient and helpful. The room did not have a clock which was annoying. However, the jacuzzi tub was great. There are also hot tubs outside right next to the river. Dogs are welcome which was a huge bonus. There is a fully stocked convenience store on the site and a nice restaurant. Rooms are bare bones, […] but all you need, since the park is really the main attraction. Mehr

Choices for dining were pretty limited but that of course was a function of the location. There was a small store in the front building/office, items very high priced of course. Also a convenience store within 1/2 mile of hotel, but also very high price. We got a pizza from the hotel's restaurant; it was pretty good, cost about $18 for a medium size […] (8 slices). There are stoves and small refrigerators in the rooms (at least ours)...if we go ever stay at this hotel again, we'll be bringing some food and preparing it in the room. Price of room was fairly decent, stayed there for 2 nights right after Christmas. Mehr

Pros:Plenty of parking. View of river was nice. Check-in/out was fast. Resturant was nice and food was ok. Easy access to park. Cons: It is an older hotel, so it could use some renovations. Hot tubs were broken. Had to go to the office to get towels for the pool/spa.

YVL is located nicely alongside the Merced river, we had a great view of the hotel. Suggestions for the hotel: 1) Provide more food choices on site 2) Develop a walking path along the river

Well equipped tourist shop on site. Large room for four people. Well equipped kitchenette. Fireplace and huge twin spa bath and twin shower - what a treat. The added bonus was the racoon that greeted us on the verandah and the river out the back door. Great access to Yosemite park. Only negative was no internet access for those without their own computer […] and poor mobile reception. WiFi is available though. Mehr
