Amara Resort and Spa - Sedona

This was a wonderful hotel/spa. Very warm greetings as we entered the resort. Excellent location. Only complaint was hearing footsteps from the upstairs room! Hotel staff was very helpful.

Perfect location, beautiful views and everything you need right at your fingertips.

Nice place. Staff was very helpful and accomondating. Loved the ride to town on the hummer cart!

Nice hotel - the staff was attentive, the room was roomy and clean. Be aware that there is no self parking - you must use the valet service. I will say that they were prompt in getting my car upon request but you must keep dollar bills on hand for tips. Its only a short walk up the hill to the center of town.

Friendly curteous staff. Nice rate for the amenities and service.

Terrific location- on the creek, below street level, yet central to shopping and restaurants. Great views. Service is friendly, very attentive. Restaurant is lovely. Unfortunately the pool was being renovated during our stay- once it is complete, Amara will be terrific once again.

This resort is over priced. I was on my honeymoon and was expecting a massage and a hot tub. All I got was a temporary backyard hot tub beside construction dust and work and next to their dining room. Spa prices too high and they were all booked up. I would never stay again or recommend this place.

We found the room to be comfortable and the staff to be courteous and helpful. I had read reviews about the walk up the steep hill to the main roadway but chose to overlook them since we were staying only one night. Ive stayed at numerous resorts in Sedona, this one is far from the best. Besides the bed, the room is uncomfortable and unorganized. The resort is extremely loud and most rooms have high traffic inside and outside. The restaurant ambiance was nice but the food was overpriced and subpar. Had the coconut shrimp, filet and lamb- none were good. At the […] time, the pool area was under construction, which is not a big deal. But unfortunately, the rooms are not comfortable enough to make you want to stay in. The staff was very nice and polite but the accommodations were not up to expectations. Mehr

Perfect location and using our Earned Nights the price was perfect!

The hotel is under major renovations, which mean that the work begins at 8am. Don't plan on sleeping in! First, we were put in a room with a view of a pile of construction scraps right outside our window. When asked to switch rooms, it wasn't very well received by he staff. Paying what I paid for such accomodations, my expectations were much higher. […] My advise would be to hold off until 2014 to try and stay there. Don't waste your money. Book somewhere else. Mehr

Where should I begin? Here are my experiences in no particular order: the hotel has been under construction for 6 weeks (fixing the pool - very important to us), but only called me TWO days before my scheduled check in to tell me - thankfully Hotels.com let us out of our 2nd night reservation. We were charged a "fee" of $20 per room that was to include […] shuttle service. We were told that shuttle service wasn't available to us since they were short staffed....when we pushed the issue they finally provided transportation - Grrr. Due to the construction and limited room availability they put my sister and her family next to a major doorway - they heard nothing but slamming doors all night during their one night stay. With all that said the staff is very friendly, especially when delivering bad news and the breakfast was great. The servers were all on the ball and helpful. I supposed when all the construction is over this will be a nice place again, but if I were you I call them first to make sure it has been completed! Mehr

Pool area unusable due to construction. Room was large but sparsely decorated and uniteresting, and our room was overtop construction junk. Dinner at the restaurant was not up to fine resort standards. Service was fine.

The Amara is a nice resort located very near the shopping area of Uptown Sedona. During our stay, the staff were friendly, helpful and courteous and we enjoyed several very good meals in the restaurant. Our room had a nice view of Sedona's famous red rocks, and looked out over the central courtyard which was in the midst of renovations. Unfortunately […] there was also a lot of renovation work going on right outside our room. Several times we had to make our way past dust mask-wearing workmen, drywall dust and paint fumes hanging in the air. This was brought to the attention of management, but nothing was done. Timing is everything, of course, so if the painting and sanding are completed, this would be a comfortable and convenient place to stay in Sedona. Mehr

Beautiful facility in beautiful Sedona but really...a spa with the workout facility under construction and the entire outside of the hotel currently dug up for new pool, etc...I'm sure it will be great when it's done, but I recommend waiting until then!

We chose the hotel based on some of the great outdoor shots of the courtyard, pool and patio area and views only to discover that the entire pool area was under construction and completely dug up. There was no where to sit outside and the view of the courtyard from our room consisted of a big hole and dirt and mess everywhere. Until this is resolved […] I wouldn't suggest anyone stay at this hotel. Also the spa was extremely expensive and not that great quality wise. Mehr

Overall I was disappointed with the room. The bathroom had a musty smell and the pool and patio area was under major construction. This was not disclosed on their website. The room rate was over valued under these conditions and should have been lowered because of the construction. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately we were not told that the hotel was under construction for upgrades. There was no swimming pool and the common grounds were all blocked off. We still had to pay the $20.00 per day resort fee which was for no resort amnities as they were all under construction.

The star rating for this hotel does not match the quality promised. During our visit, the hotel was under construction (they are building an infinity pool in the center of the hotel). At just after 8am concrete was being laid right outside our door with workers yelling commands back and forth to oneanother. They were pleasant enough to move our room, […] but one has to ask the question why put us so close to the construction to begin with?? This senario represens the thought process that plaqued our stay...... quality customer service did not exist unless there was green backing every request. For those of you staying once the construction is complete please know the new pool will be located exactly where the construction workers were working which means if you are in the rooms facing the red rocks you will hear other guests at all hours enjoying the pool and amentities ..... If sleep, peace and quiet is what you are looking for ask for a room to the rear. I would rate the food out of 10 stars as a 6.5. If you order room service be sure to ask for condiments, steak knife, bread, water and anything else extra. One lasst thing....because the hotel is located down the hill, you really need to valet your car which begins to nickel and dime your pocket book. You are best off parking your car up the hill and using the stairs ( hidden but found next to the spa) which gives you a straight shot up to the parking lot. No one will tell you this! On the upside, the hotel was clean, rooms spacious, and bed comfortable. Mehr

We really liked the hotel, the staff was very friendly and we really liked the food in their restaurant. Our room, unfortunately, was on the first floor and the people above us were loud, and our room was close to a couple of "employee only" areas turned out to be extremely noisy throughout the night. Additionally, our bathroom only had a sink and some […] small glass shelves... not very practical for the woman getting ready with makeup and flat irons ;) The spa was nice and we were completely satisfied with our treatments... make sure you call in to make reservations as there are issues with the online system. Would definitely stay again if we could be guaranteed a room on the top floor. Mehr

We really had a good stay there. It is quite a climb up to the street level shops but the hotel provides a shuttle up to the street. We ate dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was absolutely delicious and the presentation was awesome.

Unfortunately the courtyard area (pool, etc.) was completely removed and under construction. We received no forewarning when we booked this in December. The hotel upgraded our rooms (at our cost) to allow us to be moved away from the sight of construction and did comp breakfast. But we would never have booked this hotel had we known that it was under […] construction. Mehr

Amara is a very nice boutique hotel in a great location in central Sedona. Loved the free morning yoga classes! Our room was clean, stylish and large. The staff was very helpful, even putting a microwave in our room for our stay since we had a baby with us. The only issue was that there was construction on the patio area and therefore no outdoor pool, […] jacuzzi or outdoor patio, which was too bad. The construction was not otherwise disruptive to our stay, but something you should be aware of should you be staying Feb-April 2012. Mehr

The Amara is doing renovation to an outside pool area and this affects the overall experience. The hot water in our room was not functioning properly and the TV signal was poor. The staff was most accomodating and sympathetic to these limitations, and did the very best they could to correct the problems.

Quick trip for Valentine's day, lovely , friendly facility. Pool closed for renovation, no notice from Hotels.com TV set for watching from bed, only 1 sitting chair. Desk chair available. Good WiFi service connection.

The hotel was in the middle of the best tourist cites. Everyone was eager to tell you the best cites to see. Most shopping in walking distance.

The room was very comfortable and the decor was very nice. The only concern I would mention that on Sunday morning there was no hot water to take a shower. The water was luke warm and we did decide to take a shower. The bathroom was very well stocked and pleasant except for hot water.

We stayed for two nights in february.. Excellant room, very comfortable. Only downside was the pool was under construction so not only could we not use it it was pretty unsightly as they were digging it completely out to rebuild. The hot tub was comically located in the fitness room. Not sure I would use at that location. Once the pool is done I am […] sure it will be fantastic. Mehr

Great location. The hill is a bit steep, but the hotel offers free valet parking and free shuttle service in downtown. Restaurant food was good, service was mediocre. Hotel service was fantastic. Only downside was the overpowering chemical air freshener scent in the lobby.

I was a little disappointed with our room. First of all we were given a room that opened up to all the construction and torn up pool area. I thought the decor in the room was a little on the cheap side and the headboard was similar to a curtain hanging from the wall. The price was better than the surrounding hotels, but I would pay more for a nicer […] place. The spa was nice, but the steam room didn't work and dressing room was rather crowded. We still had a great weekend, but won't return to Amara. Mehr

We were informed about the demolition of the salt water pool and jacuzzi upon opening the door of our room by the bellhop. Main reason we chose the Hotel and the courtyard room was for the courtyard pool, not a view of piles and piles of rock and boulders with jackhammering from 9am to 6pm. Specially planned this trip for my girlfriend's Birthday. Hotels.com […] should of had this posted on the website listing the hotel "under construction." Though the staff was very friendly, there were no extras offered. Mehr

Our carpet was really dirty...something had been spilled and not cleaned up. We had to go into another building...contruction going on, so noise during the day.

We were disappointed - grounds were under construction and no view. Our room overlooked the parking lot.

The Amara Resort was a great place to stay. The restaurant was outstanding, both from a culinary point of view as well as entertainment point of view. The experience begins as you pull up to complimentary valet parking and continues throughout the stay. The rooms are large with great amenities. The pool was currently undergoing a rebuild during our […] stay, but it was late January so it wasn't an issue. If you want to swim it's not a problem...Amara has arranged for the use of pool and Jacuzzi at the next door resort at no cost. I would definitely recommend this place and will definitely stay there again. Mehr

The Amara Resort was very nice! We will stay there again. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was ideal for us.

Everything was wonderful! From the Starbucks coffee in the room to the yoga in the morning. Thank you.
