Barcelo Hamilton - Es Castell

The first impressions are good. Reception and main foyer are modern & very clean. The staff there were very courteous & helpful. The lounge again was very modern but seemed soul-less and was not very pleasant to stay in for very long. One part was very badly lit. The walls were very bland with no art-work to brighten them up. The bedroom that we had […] was also very modern, however although there was a massive bed, there were no drawers and our clothes had to be stacked up on the shelf of the wardrobe, which is far from satisfactory as we had to search to find anything & the item was invariably creased when we did find it. We asked the staff if any bedrooms had drawers but were advised that none did. The hanging space of the wardrobe was not long enough, again causing creasing of my dresses. The air conditioning was pathetic, the bedside lighting was inadequate and the television was hung on the wall above the desk, where a mirror would have been more beneficial. There was no full length mirror in the room & the only mirror was above the hand basin where it was difficult to apply make-up or blow dry one's hair. It also afforded anyone at the door a full view of the room which could be embarrassing. Several times we had to wedge the front & verandah doors to be able to get a through draught ( Poor air-con, as already mentioned), We had to put a towel over the mirror to block the view from other guests who might have been passing. None of this should have been necessary. Sockets were in very strange places. The shower cubicle was very roomy and the fitments worked well, however, there were no grab rails & the floor was very slippery. I nearly slipped several times & we feel sure that there must have been bone breakages after guests have fallen. As the majority of guests were elderly we feel that more thought should have been given to safety. Very good view, and close to a very posh area, with very good restaurants, also a very good swimming pool. The area it is very far from Ciutadella but, is close to the Mahon port that also is a very good place to stay !!

We had a week on h/b and then upgraded to a/i. The Hotel staff were very good across the board.The hotel location was excellent, entertainment every night and well attended by the locals which was not a problem.Food very good with some dishes prepared on request, including the bacon and eggs for breakfast.A lovely short walk from outside the hotel […] along the prom a of Es Castell and fantastic views of the Cruise Liners coming and going from Mahon.Also a smashing small Tapas bar within 5 minutes walk towards the former parade ground, used extensively by locals and expats,nice atmosphere and wonderful tapas.We thoroughly enjoyed our hotel and the trip. We stayed for 8 days at the Barcelo Hamilton in Es Castell. We really enjoyed the hotel, the location was pretty good (30m walk to Mahon and with busses driving often) and a lot of restaurants nearby. Es Castell was a really pretty and real Spanish village, which we really liked. The only thing we can complain about is that there was no minibar or fridge […] in the room, and that the reception staff was not too talkative/helpful with us and little service-minded. We never got any indications on what to see and do even if we asked, and they always seemed to have little time to talk/give advice. Otherwise, the personnel at the restaurant was really charming, always greeting and being available for all clients. Mehr

Fine hotel placed just in front of the water. Nice quiet hotel only a few steps away from a lot of restaurants on the harbour quay (small fishing and private small boats). Easy transportation to Mao with bus, station about five minutes easy walk from the hotel.
