Ocean Promenade Hotel - White Rock

There's a scene in My Cousin Vinny where he stays at a motel where a freight train blasts its whistle at 4:30am. Imagine that, but about once an hour all night long! That's the Ocean Promenade Hotel. Avoid at all costs.

The hotel room was very clean and up to date. The hotel staff was very friendly. The only thing of note is that the walls seem very thin, you could hear a conversation happening next door. Overall, if you are going to White Rock to explore White Rock and aren't going to live out in your room, you'll like it fine!

I thought I'd treat my family to a nice escape on a sunny warm weekend in Feb. The location of the hotel can't be beat, right across the street from the ocean; the suite we stayed in was nicely decorated, not super high end, but very comfortable, spacious and clean. There was a partial ocean view from the patio window which is what we were really looking […] for and we spent a lot of time on the deck soaking up the sunshine. A few things to think about before you book. We tried to get a room at the front of the hotel which would have given us a full ocean view and weren't able to. Later we found out from the front desk that only the suites with the Jacuzzi tubs have the rooms at the front. Those rooms were the most expensive and put them out of the average weekend escape budget. We were standing in the lobby waiting for a cab and overheard a discussion about maintenance that was needed in a room. Both light bulbs were out in the main bathroom and the guest was trying to get a replacement bulb. The maintenance person wasn't available and the front desk person actually commented that "light bulbs weren't part of her job” and she wanted to move him to another room. He was reluctant as he and his wife had already been moved and were now unpacked and like the view from their suite. The conversation was like a comedy show. The guest was very patient trying to resolve his current situation without moving but the woman at the front desk wasn’t going to budge from her only solution which was to move them. It went on for 10 minutes plus. We ended up leaving for our cab and didn’t see if or how it was resolved. But thought it was an example of some of the worst customer service at a hotel reception counter we had ever seen and we travel several times a year. We did interact with two other front desk employees who were very pleasant but its funny how one bad situation can really taint the experience. Stayed for a week over Thanksgiving break. The bathroom tub did not drain so you were standing in your own dirty water. Did not have enough blankets on the bed only 1 blanket between 2 sheets. It had a nice fireplace. The coffee shop at the base of hotel was great serving good food.

The Marine Drive location was easy to find and allowed us reasonable access to amenities. The 2 queen beds could be updated as the springs could be felt through the bedding. The room and bathroom was clean. Desk service was pleasant and helpful. Secure covered parking was provided. Nice room, neat and clean with friendly staff. Excellent value. Has a small, pleasant cafe at street level for a light breakfast and mid-day snack with some tables available on the sidewalk.

A beautiful spot with the amazing tidal Semiamhoo Bay beach - view from hotel suite excellent! BUT a noisy party above late into the night was disruptive and disappointing that it was not adequately addressed when we reported it.

Beautiful refurbished rooms and friendly staff. Great location across from the beach and just a short walk to restaurants and shops along Marine Drive. Plan to stay there again in the future.

The hotel is at one end of the beach, only a ten minute walk from the restaurants and shops. This makes it quiet and private but also very convenient. It was nice to walk down to the beach when the tide was out. The rooms are a good size(we had a 1-bedroom suite which worked out well for two adults and two kids). The only negative comment we have is […] with respect to the staff, particularly the young woman we met at reception the first night. Our flight was late so we got to the hotel at 11:00 pm and she seemed to be angry for having to wait for us. She did not greet us or smile, and was very terse, odd behaviour for someone who is working in the front lines of the hospitality industry. She was not helpful when we asked specific questions, and apparently she was surly with another party from our family who had arrived earlier; she told them off for not having booked directly through the hotel website(which was much more expensive by the way). The other staff we met over the next few days were polite and pleasant so this does not seem to be a hotel-wide problem. The other thing I found odd was that we had booked our rooms two months in advance and yet got rooms towards the back of the hotel. The other party with us was put on the first floor at the very back- they still had a view of the ocean but this was quite limited, and the room had street noise. Given that the payment was made at the time of booking, I would have thought that they could have given us rooms on the higher floors, close to the front and to each other. So a good location with adequate rooms, but inconsistent people skills.. Mehr

We rented one of the Jacuzy suites, during our last visit to Whiterock. We loved having the freedom to come and go after visiting family. Also loved the convenience of being able to make meals . The view was great and the coffee shop next to the hotel served good coffee. We will definitely be back

Very friendly service, very flexible. Nice view and the room was beautiful. Very good price for quality of room. The one drawback was proximity of RR tracks - noise at night.

A nicely renovated hotel with excellent proximity and views of the ocean. It was also a very quiet hotel. Pleasant staff, clean rooms with lots of space, and secure parking at no extra charge. A feature that you do not get in downtown Vancouver. I would definitely stay here again.

Do not stay at this hotel if you value sleep! The walls in this hotel are so thin, you can hear your neighbor using the toilet, everything they say in their conversation, drawers being opened. I expected the hotel to be much nicer based on the description but the facilities and room fell well below my expectations. Also, the hotel is located across […] the street from a pub, which made it feel quite unsafe to be walking outside after dark. There are no restaurants in the hotel and limited restaurants that would deliver to the hotel in the evening. Mehr
