San Gallo Palace Hotel - Florenz

Great stay. Location a little out of town, but not too bad. Walked to Accademia in 10 minutes, and 25 minutes to Duomo, another 10 after that to Uffizi. Hotel told us an efficient bus system runs from the hotel to the train station in the heart of the city. The service was good, and the breakfast was a fairly good mix of meats, cereal, fruit, and pastries. […] The only thing that is worth noting is that the internet charges are a little high. really enjoyed the staying there. great location, very kindly staff, the service was excellent! the only problem - we had no view from the window, because we reserved the room in the morning of arrival.

Great hotel in downtown Florence with a fair price. Great staff and the hotel offers free bicycle rental to get around town! Beds are not that comfortable but I'm use to a pillow top mattress! Loved the stay! Luca was very helpful!

The hotel location was about a 20 minute walk to the city center, but we didn't mind. Florence is a great walking city and we felt generally safe at all time. The hotel is in good shape and the rooms nicely appointed. The only trouble we had was with the TV (no sound). But we weren't there to watch TV, so it didn't matter much. Very difficult to find. When you wonder if you should drive through the fortress gate DO! It is not well soundproofed, but the atmosphere is great. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

I have stayed at this hotel FIVE times. It is an extraordinary place and exudes graciousness....from the multi-languaged manager to the cleaning staff. The breakfast meal, both indoors and in the garden, is encompassing from the US breakfast notions to the more European styles of eating. Based on other reviews I have read, I was not expecting to have the check-in experience I had, but it's worth mentioning. Let me start out with the fact that this hotel is very nice. It's clean, comfortable (largest bathroom I had during my 2 week stay all over Europe), convenient and a very reasonable price for these factors (plus the A/C). When I […] went to check-in, the process went along fine, until we opened the door to our room. There was someone else already checked into the room evidenced by their luggage, etc! Luckily they weren't there, but I was a bit concerned at that point. When we went back down to the front desk to get another room, we were handed another room key with the wrong name on it! The service at this hotel was great. We asked so many questions and we got many of the answers. The room was very clean with a great spacious bathroom. The bed was also very comfortable. The location was nice but it was a Sunday and it seemed lonely. We enjoyed our breakfast in a small courtyard and it was pleasant.

great hotel overall. only complaint was the lack of free wifi. 10 euro per hour charge felt outrageous. however, ample street parking was available.

This was the best hotel we stayed at in Italy. Very clean big room, awesome bathroom, good location. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from "David" museum and 20 minutes from downtown and train station. It is very clean and big for Europe standards. We even had a nice balcony. My only complaint in most European hotels is how they take two smaller beds and push them together and call this a bigger bed? Then you fall between the middle. The hotel is absolutely fantastic! It is close to the centre without being in the middle of the enromous traffic of visitors. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious, cosy, cleaned on a daily basis and bathroom is large. Excellent outside patio where you can relax after a long walk out. Highly recommend!!! We stayed at several hotels in Europe. This was by far the friendliest. The front desk employees were very helpful and friendly. They even smiled! I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

Hotel didnt have free wireless. I was traveling throughout different cities in Italy and this was the first hotel without free internet access. If you are on a business trip do not choose this hotel.Even a rundown hotel that I had to stay by accident in Marseille had free internet access.

This is a very comfortable hotel with modern and clean rooms. Their arrangement to park your car is a plus. Very tasty breakfast incl. in the price of the room. Superb staff helped with all questions. Be aware of extra tax/fees for tourist, in my case 4 EUR/day.

PROS: Clean, good service, well appointed and reasonably sized rooms and free bikes CONS: Gym is quite small, but good for 1 person. Note the hotel is approx a 15-20m walk to the train station and other main parts of Florence.

Nice place for the money. Hotel is on a busy intersection, just off the park, about a 10 minute walk to Academia. A bit too long a walk to Uffizi, but frequent taxis to get to/from Ponte Vecchio area for around 6-8 Euro one way. Quality breakfast, comfortable room,although bed is a bit hard, with wafer thin pillows, but that's typical for Italy. -2000 […] years ago, Italian ancestors slept on concrete beds, so consider yourself fortunate and ask for extra pillows. Gorgeous hotel situated about 15-20 minute walk away from all the main attractions. Our room was very quiet and opened onto a lovely courtyard garden. Breakfast was plentiful and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't mind a walk to get to the centre of Florence.

The hotel is a very beautiful new hotel with top notch amenities, you have a pillow service menu where you can select and choose your own pillow to sleep on. It is very easy to locate the hotel as it is not too far from Santa Maria Novella Train Station. it is about 8 minutes by taxi. I was very disapointed in the service of the staff at reception, […] they were not very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast staff members were very friendly and helpful however. Breakfast was very delicious and plentiful with an array of choice for breakfast, eggs, bacon, pastries, cheeses, hams etc... Unfortunately it was impossible to regulate the air temperature in your room and it was always freezing unless you completly turned off the air conditioner as it was controlled centrally. The hotel was also quite far from town, it was a good 20-25minute walk to town, so if you don't mind the walk, the hotel did offer free bicycles to use to get into the city which was good. The hotel had a decent fitness centre, and would have been nice if the hotel had a pool as it is so far away from anything that it would be nice in summer when it is so hot. Mehr

Pro: 1. Room is clean and comfortable. Con: 1. The counter is not friendly, seems he only care doing his own thing. 2. the location is not close to the city center and has to take a bus. 3.no free internet. TV is small. 4. breakfast is just ok.

We chose this hotel based on the reviews and boy were they right! This hotel is outstanding in both customer service and the quality of the hotel. We arrived at the hotel late around 1:30am having got totally lost. The front desk clerk allowed us to park our car inside the hotel gates in the patio area until the morning so we could get to bed and sleep. My fiance and I really liked this hotel. It's not right downtown, so it's quiet. But it's only a 15-20 minute walk to the Duomo, and the streets are clean and seemed very safe. There are several cafes and pharmacies in the surrounding plaza. The hotel is fabulous - very clean, great staff, and the bar on site is wonderful for a relaxing evening drink. […] My only "dislike" is that the floors are hardwood, so you easily hear the movements of the people in the room above you. From our arrival to our departure this hotel was outstanding. The staff was so helpful. The front desk booked our tours and called cabs, offered umbrellas and great directions to the center of town. The Hotel was located just outside the center of town, which made for quiet nights and no scooter noise at all hours. Easy walk into town, close to the […] train and bus station. The room was clean, beautiful, a king size bed, large bath, and they even have a pillow menu, so you can order the pillow of your choice. The breakfast was fabulous, more than we had expected and the quaint little bar had a wonderful bartender who gave us amazing suggestions for restaurants and travel to surrounding towns. We will be back to this hotel the next time we visit Florence, no question about it. Mehr

Very nice, roomy room and bath.Very clean!!! Easy to get to main attractions.

Overall quite happy with this hotel, good staff and breakfast. Rooms are small if you have much luggage, and a little bit of a hike to walk to attractions. Parking could be a problem if you have a car.

I have never stayed at a hotel in Europe or the U.S. where the employees were as helpful as the staff at the San Gallo Palace. There are several very nice restaurants within walking distance and the neighborhood was not at all threatening. The rooms were well appointed and the bathrooms were beautiful. The breakfast area was charming and relaxing and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I will definately stay at this hotel again when visiting Florence. We loved our stay here. Travelled with my wife and daughter. Best all included breakfast we had in Italy (which isn't a very high bar). The location is off the typical tourist path, though it remains reasonably close to all the sights if you don't mind walking fifteen minutes. Same holds true for its distance to the train station. Taxis are extremely […] expensive - 12 euro for a 5 minute ride. The hotel price was very cheap, the room very nice, with a decent shower, conditioner, shampoo & soap, an extremely curteous and helpful staff, and a well functioning air conditioning unit. My wife found a couple of stray hairs in the bath tub which I wouldn't have noticed, though I did get to clean up :-) Mehr

no complaints about the hotel except ONE: in order to get wireless internet access you have to pay a whopping 5 Euro for 30 minutes of service. The accesss procedure is a medieval process too (scratch cards for you access code). Which is absolutely ridiculous, considering that it prides itself as a hotel for business travellers, not only tourists.

We found the hotel quite easily with our GPS and were able to park outside while unloading the car. The receptionist then gave clear instructions as to how to get to the nearby car park so that we could leave our car there for the duration of our visit - it is very close to walk back to the hotel. We found the staff helpful and the hotel clean and well […] run. The walk into central Florence was very direct and only about 15 minutes walk. Because we were travelling for 6 weeks in total, we were also rather excited to find an automatic laundromat fairly close by. Wifi worked well and was free. All in all, a very pleasant hotel and we would not hesitate to use it again. Mehr

Iron is not available to the guests. Disappointed.

I asked for a pressing iron and the hotel did not have one available for the guests

We really enjoyed the San Gallo Palace Hotel. Our only complaint was that it was a long way from the town center and the train station. The taxi ride was about 12 Euro. Though it could be walked, most would find it very inconvenient.

Excellent hotel and value for the dollar. After 4 nights here, I'd highly recommend it. It's a short bus ride from the Duomo and all the sites.

Not only was it clean and comfortable but the staff was very helpful. The Breakfast Buffet was the best of our trip. The hotel bar was also very casual and reasonably priced for "Vino and casual Meals".
