This was my first trip to Jamaica so I really had no clue what to expect. Travellers Lodge was like the extremely affordable resort. No cops on the beach meant lots of selling of anything and everything so you really can't relax on the loung chairs without getting asked to buy something every 5 minutes. The environment was just what the doctor ordered. I suppose you could a relaxed atmosphere is what you will always get when you are in Negril, but it starts with the staff at Travellers. I was under the impression that we would have a flat screen tv, that was not available. The bathroom tap dripped all night long interrupting my sleep. Otherwise, the hotel grounds were well kept and maintained, staff was somewhat attentive. Really enjoyed the jazz on the beach.

A nice basic hotel in a great location on the beach and close to town. Nicely kept gardens and a nice large pool. Rooms are a bit dated but are clean and not following apart, but who spends much time in their room on vacation. Security was good and I was not worried about my valuables in the room. This hotel offers a realistic Jamaican experience in a safe atmosphere. The staff, including check in, security, cleaning personnel, grounds keepers, cooks, serving personnel, and the owner are all very very friendly and helpful. During our stay, guest from Canada, US, England, Russia and Jamaica were present. Having a percentage of local Jamaicans present enabled one to better experience their way of life. This is why we travel. It is a smaller resort, therefore it is not overcrowded with people, offering a lot of space to its guest. To get to the beach from your room is only a maximum 300 foot walk. Although it is only a 2.5 star resort, it is very clean and they make a great effort to present it as a 5 star. Room was nicely presented with flower arrangements at checkin and grounds were nicely kept and landscaped. Lobby was excellent. It also has freee Wi-Fi throughout the grounds. Our only small complaint was the low water pressure and lack of hot water. Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our stay here. If one is looking for a 5 star all inclusive resort with all the extra amenities, this is not the place. For those with some travel experience, looking for a quieter laid back vacation with less people and the opportunity to more fully experience the Jamaican culture in a clean and safe environment, this is the place. After my first stay in Negril back in April, which was awful, I was highly delighted with my experience at the Travellers. I actually own a hotel on another island in the Caribbean and so I do know what to look for and what guests should expect. I will definitely return in the not too distant future.

Of the three hotels we occupied during our stay in Jamaica this was by far the best one. At first it was a shock that there was no phone, alarm clock or any of the other basic hotel ammenities, but besides that we were happy with our stay. The Hotel is in a great location - right by the sea very close to the Negril village. Rooms are clean. I stayed in a standard room, so the furniture and amenities were of standard quality. This is a solid choice for an inexpensive, but pleasant hotel in Negril. It is centrally located and has its own beach. The staff are amazing and will accommodate all of your needs. The bar is a nice place to unwind after a day of touring around. I am a single traveler and felt completely comfortable in the hotel.

I am not normally someone who complains- but I wanted people to know my experience since I chose this hotel based on reviews. This is my warning for future travelers-DON'T STAY HERE! First of all, the pictures of the hotel rooms are extremely deceiving! For one, some of the windows don't even have glass-they are just wood blinds with screens over them(which […] was torn apart by a stray cat trying to get in). We could see through the door leading to that "balcony" which over looked a run down hotel. The beds were uncomforable and the sheets had blood stains. The towels in the bathroom had not been washed!!! I could see a yellowish stain on the surface of the towels and when I ran water over it and scrubbed it, the stain was gone. GROSS! Also, the staff was rude and unhelpful!!! I have NO IDEA why so many ppl said they were nice. I was never rude to them even though I had been disappointed with the service and room. Also, the bar tried to scam us out of $15, when I questioned the bill he took back that bill and reprinted another one, and said "oh I gave you discount" and handed us the bill for the correct amount. Oh also, if you have kids don't bring them here, we walked by the pool area around 7 p.m. one evening and some people were having sex in the pool and the hotel staff that passed by did nothing... I resided in a Standard Room which I feel could use a little updating. Overall it was clean, no bugs but the daily room housekeeping could've been a little more thorough. One of the days my room wasn't even cleaned although I left the placard on the outside door knob instructing them to do so. I quickly learned that things happen while on vacation but what makes the difference is the way the hotel handles these issues - and Travellers is excellent in this regard. I need to thank EVERYONE who worked to ensure that my stay was pleasant from the front […] desk personnel, to the housekeeping staff to the locksmith. The accessibility of the Wellington brothers who run the hotel make it very easy to bring your concerns to their attention which is addressed immediately. By the time I settled into my stay, I even found myself singing at Karaoke. who knew? It is so fantastic to take 20 steps from your hotel room and be in the crystal clear water of the beach. The lobby and gardens are beautiful the room was not the cleanest and the Beds hard as rocks. The security and front desk staff were quiet but helpful when needed but the restaurant staff was horrible not good waitstaff at all. The pool needed to be cleaned as well but overall not bad for the rate we paid and it is right on the 7 mile beach!

The only real positive thing I can say about Travellers is that the staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. The hotel was very run down, and I think a star rating of 2 is generous. Even though the staff did a decent job cleaning, everything just felt dirty. The shower had a significant amount of hair that constantly clogged the drain. There were […] a few occasions where the hotel shut off the water, and although they turned it back on when we told them about it, it was extremely inconvenient to have to walk down to the lobby (there are no phones in the rooms) to go ask them to take care of it. There were small bugs in the room daily, and cats all over the property that were extremely loud all night long. The paint and tile were chipped. They don't supply shampoo/conditioner so bring your own. Also, no hairdryer. The beach was very narrow, but there were always plenty of chairs and the water was the most beautiful I've seen in all the Caribbean. There was always a security guard at the beach, which was nice when we got regularly hassled by the locals. The restaurant was a nice location, right on the beach, but the food was adequate at best, and although prices for drinks, breakfast and lunch were decent, dinner was very overpriced ($16 for alfredo/pasta). If you don't mind staying somewhere extremely low budget, then I would recommend it. I am usually not picky and don't mind staying somewhere that is nothing fancy and cheap, but I would not stay here again. Mehr

Althought the hotel is conveniently located, it doesn't offer many amenities. There are no phones in the rooms so we had to go down to the lobby every time we wanted to make a local call which they promptly made us pay cash for. There is no shampoo and conditioner nor hair dryer just in case you wanted one. They don't offer beach towels and the room […] towels are too small. The screens on the windows are so meager that we had bugs crawling all over our toothbrushes the first morning. The place is run down. There is only WiFi in the lobby so another inconvenience. I stayed at Travellers with my husband and 1 year old in December 2011. With the very convenient location and decent reviews, we jumped at the price. Thank goodness we were only staying 2 nights! When we got there in the evening, not only was the crib that I had requested not set up in our room, but I overheard the lady at the frony desk on the phone […] asking someone to bring up the crib from the basement - the person clearly had no clue what she meant and she explained that it was in the corner behind some boxes. Oh dear. I asked her to forget the crib - we had our pack and play. Both windows in the room had very thin curtains and a bright light on all night outside each. The room didn't feel clean, but instead had an overwhelming smell of Febreeze or something. One good thing was the tv. It had cable. Also, the restaurant location - right on the beach - was lovely. This hotel is fine for spring breakers, people who don't plan to spend much time in the room and don't mind that things are not the cleanest..... But definitely not for families. there are no phones in the hotels rooms, so even if you need to reach the front desk, you need to use your cell phone which can be very expensive internationally. there is only one outlet in room , no outlets in bathrooms.

We were at travelers a weekend while we attended a funeral the accommodations were modest and if you are bringing kids do knows that the walls are very thin. We spent most nights of our stay listening to our neighbors making the most of there stay and also the nightly entertainment at the bar could be heardlate into the night. We have stayed at Traveller's for 5 nights last week. We were a bit disappointed at the hotel when we first got there, mainly because of the dated facilities & interior. But as soon as we reminded ourselves that it's Jamaica and adjusted our expectation, together with our experience during our stay at Traveller's, we find that Traveller's is BY FAR […] THE BEST choice among all the hotels in Negril. Why? 1. Location, Location, Location Traveller's is right at the Seven Miles Beach, Negril and yet only 5-10 mins walk to the down town/community. You can experience a bit of the "local life" and go to supermarket/ local restaurants/mall to buy food/stuff easily. It is great for people who doesn't want to be trapped in the All-inclusive hotels. Other hotels could be a bit nicer in terms of interior/amenities , but you can go no where without cab/taxi/rental car. 2. Safety & No Hassle Traveller's nice security guard Terrance is the BEST! He makes sure we are in good hands and free to disturbance of people walking along the beaches and try to sell us stuff or try to bother us, especially when they get persistence/aggressive. Trust me, we saw how people were harassed at other hotels while we walked along the beach. Having said that, people in Jamaica are nice and a politely said “no thanks” will keep you away from the vendors at majority of the time. 3. Safety (Again!) – Getting around You can take the cab/taxi. For us, since we stayed there only for 5 nights, we decide to find a tour operator/driver. And after comparing lots of them, we realized the BEST was closer than we thought – Kenneth, the driver who cooperate with/ work for the hotel. He gave us the MOST REASONABLE price for the trip we made, friendly, nice and reliable. If you want to avoid crowds, incessant music, and want some quiet comfort right on the beach, Travellers is a great option! The rooms are cleaned daily and could probably use some updating, but personally I just need a clean bed and a bathroom with plumbing to be satisfied. The lobby staff answered my questions, helped me track down my lost luggage at the airport, and the restaurant staff were even more friendly. I was able to order meals specialized to my liking. I also sometimes ordered lunch items at dinner time. Be prepared to wait 20 minutes or more for your food though - it's just the Jamaican way so try to be patient. The beach is clean and there are plenty of beach chairs. There is also enough shade for about six or seven chairs and these spots are usually available since most people prefer sitting in the sun.
