The hotel was fine and especially for the price. Excellent free breakfast, too, and pets were allowed for $10 extra. Problem:--The road to hotel and parking lot were not well-lit for a first-time visitor so it was difficult to know whether I was on the right street to get to the hotel which I could see in the distance. Also, on my return trip, they […] were very strict about their cancellation policy though I called before 6pm to cancel. Apparently, they have a 4pm policy and had to pay the entire room charge rather than just a penalty for being a few hours late in calling. Mehr

the people were find the room was very nice. the feather pillows were great, as was the convenice of the refrigerator. everything was fine. the next moring breakfast was a little short but that sometimes happens.

5-10 minute drive to restaurants and shopping, so if you are wanting to be in the center of things, this hotel is NOT for you. Quiet location. Small restaurant bar. Did not eat continental breakfast or use the swimming pool. Front desk staff were friendly. Parking area was well lit.

I thought this place was a dump, at least our room was...dirty (bathroom was gross), cracks in the walls, holes in the curtains. Will not be staying here again unless it is the only room in town. Would compare our room to a cheap motel, so next time we'll stay at one and save some cash.

This hotel was very nice, pet-friendly, and we got a free upgrade to a huge suite just by asking for a room close to a door! Nice place, would recommend.

When I checked in my non-smoking room a musty smokey smell hit me in the face as soon as I opened the door. i turned on the air thinking maybe the room had been closed up for a while and went to the front desk. One of the clerks escorted me to the room and acknowledged it did smell and I told her I was leaving for the evening and would spray and see […] how it was when I returned. The clerk told me she would discount my room. Upon returning several hours later it still wreaked and I requested to be moved. The motel upgraded me to a pool side room which was fine. The next day I asked which room was assigned to my nephew which I had reserved for him for the night. They had assigned him the same room I had originally been assigned with the terrible smell. I told them no, we would not take that room so they assigned another. That was about the only thing that really bothered me as they could not have fixed overnight what was wrong. The hotel is hard to find - poor signage which may be due to construction. When we checked in the clerk told us our credit card was denied, gave him our bank card and he said it was denied as well. There was another clerk on duty and my husband said he wanted her to try the cards on her computer. They looked at us like we were crazy, but she tried it […] and it went thru with no problem. We knew there wasn't a problem with it. The room was comfortable, the breakfast average. All in all, it was an OK place to stay. Mehr

This hotel is in a state of neglect. The physical facility is deteriorating, with weeds growing through cracks in the parking lot, a courtyard with piles of dirt and no plantings, some peeling paint. The security door to the hotel entrance near my room had to be pulled closed to lock, and was not. On the way to the room, there was a broken air conditioner […] grid, scuff marks all over the walls. The bathroom had a ceiling access panel that was open and resting right on the towels. There was mold around the bath tub spout and in a corner of the room. The tub needed to be scrubbed, including the dirty rubber mat. What is amazing is that I stayed! I could not bring myself to use that shower, though. To think I chose this over less expensive 2 star motels. Mehr

The entrance is great but the rooms are in disrepair. The bathroom had dried paint on the floor and walls, the back of the bathroom door was peeling badly, the towels rack was put back on the wall and not painted over where it went into the wall. The carpet was damp and the door handle was falling off and there was a big scratch on the door from past […] use of the handle. The pool bottom was also peeling. Mehr

For us seniors the pool was too close to our room. The 11:00 PM swimmers awakened us. The chlorine odor from the pool treatment infiltrated our room. The breakfast provided was excellent. Easy access to Interstate and Iowa City. The hotel is starting to show it's age, pro-active maintenance would be helpful. Over all a good stay,

no elevator in the hotel, so be prepared to bring everything up to your room. Breakfast was good for a continental breakfast.

We were looking for somewhere close to the U of Iowa. This hotel was convenient, clean, the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. This will be our future hotel of choice when visiting our two Hawkeyes. Highly recommended.

there was trash in our room, the trash can had not been emptied. the slide door lock was broken off in our room and the hall smelled badly of cigarette smoke. Upon checkout the front desk clerk asked how my stay was and I began to inform him of the trash situation, he avoided eye contact and proceeded with check out and would not engage me in conversation […] after my complaint and then simply told me to " have a nice day." The hotel itself is nice, including large rooms, comfortable beds, updated bathrooms and decor. But I wasn't able to get past how awful the hallway outside our room smelled. Like a bar. Smoke covered up by fragrance. Ick. It made the whole place feel unclean. The smoking rooms are mixed into the non-smoking rooms. Not a good combination. No idea how […] it had such a high rating. 3-star sure, but not 4-star. Mehr

Nothing was right. If you don't smoke, don't stay there.

We live in Des Moines and we were staying in Iowa City for the night just to get away since we were in town for the wrestling meet. I had one thing on my mind.....the pool and hot tub. Unfortunately for me the hot tub was out of order and there was some kind of kids party going on and the pool was packed with screaming kids (not the hotel's fault). Upon […] arrival of the room I thought my card was messed up but found out the lock on the door was not working. The door could be opened by anyone. I called the front desk and just wanted to let them know that I did not break the lock so I would not be charged. The staff was very courteous and offered to change my room but I kindly declined as the door did not bother me at all. Unfortunately the last part of my story is to no fault of the Hotel's. I was still up at about 2:30 am because kids were running up and down the hall and I was lucky enough to have them room right next to me so every time they pounded on the door and screamed to let them in I was able to listen in. I do have to give them credit though, after about the fifth or sixth time they got locked out they set there dead bolt lock so the door wouldnt close and just let the door bang off of that the rest of the night. Ok sorry for the rant. The Hotel was very nice and the staff was very friendly. Unfortunately due to some unfortunate timing I did not have the greatest of experiences. I would still recommend the hotel though assuming that my snap shot of the maintenance issues was out of the norm. Mehr

The hotel and room and breakfast were really nice. The spa tub was worthless. The spa tub is the most important amenity to me. I like to relax after a day of traveling, business, or just running around. The water was luke warm to cool and the jets were like my bathtub faucet. For me to stay here again this would definitely have to be fixed. For the […] money I paid and I didn't enjoy my time at the hotel (what else is there to do besides sleep) or relax after my long day I felt I paid too much. Because it was given 2 stars I was worried about cleanliness, etc. It was a wonderful stay it was very clean, free morning breakfast was very good and the staff was excellent. We booked for another stay.
