The lodge location and cost are plusses for anyone seeking a basic motel with no frills. Guests must take into account the somewhat restricted desk hours.

The room was listed as non-smoking. Everything in the room reeked of stale smoke. It was very unpleasant.

Hotel is pleasant and clean. While it looks a bit dated from the outside, and maybe even the inside, it is still a good place to stay. You are walking distance from town, have WiFi, and a helpful front desk. Why not top of the line luxury, the bathroon is clean and functional. I like small old-style motels that allow you to park in front of the door. Decor just a little bit different from -- and nicer than -- most one and two star motels. Most motels close to Amherst are on the mall route going towards Northampton. This is right in town in easy two-block walking distance of the shops and restaurants. I would stay here again. Room was clean and simple. Closer to downtown Amherst then other hotels in Hadley. Many good places to eat within walking distance for very reasonable prices. Other hotels you would have to drive up and down a divided highway and they not very pedestrian friendly. Hotel was cheapest price in area as well. I really enjoyed my stay. Room service did a great job, very clean place. Everyone was friendly and helpful during my stay at the university lodge. I recommend it.

Excellent location for both UMass and "downtown" Amherst restaurants. Comfortable, quiet, unpretentious place to stay.

I stayed for an overnight for a mini high school class reunion; it was more than acceptable as I could park the car and walk to events in Amherst Center. The location in relation to downtown gives plenty of access to bar and restaurant choices and if I desired to go to UMASS it would have been a two minute walk to campus. Excellent location but not clean

Great little hotel, staff is friendly, nothing fancy, but it is right up the block from UMass. Best price in town, the perfect place to stay when visiting your college student.

GPS tracking not up to the task, indicating that the lodge is on the opposite side of the street on a side street. Obviously not the fault of the Lodge, but lack of street numbers make it a challenge for first-time visitors. A good place to perch for a night or two, great central location for Amherst locale.

University Lodge in Amherst, MA was a pleasant surprise. I was for whatever reason expecting a great rate, but a so so accomodations. I got both and the people at the check in desk were pleasant and helpful. Additionally, we were within walking distance of the center of town, which was a true college town atmosphere.

I was in Amherst for a few days, attending a conference at Umass. The University Lodge is at a perfectly walkable distance from the campus, and also really close to downtown Amherst. The rooms are really comfortable, and the price is very competitive. A really good choice.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here after looking at the UMass at Amherst campus for one night. The hotel was nothing fancy, but included everything you need for a short stay including wifi, TV, refrigerator, and microwave. Everything was clean, and well stocked. The woman at the front desk was extremely friendly and gave us lots of information about the […] area, including the best local places to eat. Very helpful front desk staff, bare bones room, bad lighting (energy efficient bulbs have got to go!), and please note that the hotel can be difficult to find! I slept well though and recommend it for people on a budget.

Good value for the money. Clean, warm, safe and comfortable.

The place was great. The desk had a great vibe. It was also Walking distence to Mullins Arena.

Rooms were clean. Nothing fancy, just a basic clean room Staff was helpful. Close to town and U Mass would stay there again

Clean, standard room. Older motel, so could hear footsteps from floor above. Walking distance to both UMass and Amherst College.

It is what you pay for. Very simple. My major disappointment was that when I arrived I was given a 'smoking' room and they did not have any other room available. The smoking smell in the room made me cough. Otherwise, it was fine, fairly clean. It is in a great location, within walking distance to UMASS and downtown Amherst.

I stayed at the University Lodge for a night while visiting Amherst. I arrived late after a long drive and has to check in at the nearby Howard Johnson's, which was inconvenient but I had read about this before booking. The staff was friendly to a fault - they kept cracking jokes and I just wanted to get to sleep! But they were very accommodating. The […] room itself was a bit dingy, with stains on the carpet and walls. But it did seem thoroughly cleaned. I was a bit worried about bugs since it was on the ground floor but only found one spider near the window during my stay. I wouldn't want to stay here for a whole week, but for a brief stay in Amherst you can't beat the price. Mehr

Good value if you don't get the jackhammer A/C in room 5. TV only one channel. Room clean, comfy, bells and whistles of better hotels, excellent staff. Ten minute walk to town center. Check the A/C and TV before you accept room.

It's certainly not the Ritz, but if you just want to stay at UMass-Amherst cheaply this will do the job.

I stayed at the University Lodge while my son and his friend visited local colleges. The location was both very close to the colleges and within walking distance to the main street where there were multiple places to eat, shop and wander around.
