Macdonald Aviemore Highland Hotel - Aviemore

Welcoming & helpful reception got us booked in even though we were early finishing our long trek to Avimore. One look at our rucksacks & weary faces - she put us straight in a room on the ground floor so we could freshen up. We have stayed before & will again. The first class breakfast & dining room staff service is a credit to the hotel.

My experience was marred by the fact the shower in my room was not working and I could not get hold of anyone in Guest Services to get it fixed. Disappointing as otherwise it is a nice hotel and the staff are good.

Brilliant location- there's so much to see and do and the countryside is breathtaking. Fantastic breakfast!! and very good service overall, would definately recommend.

My wife and I stayed here in January 2012. The room was clean but small and lacking in character. On arrival, the sole receptionist was pleasant and efficient but seemed overstretched. Our room was on the ground floor and looked out onto the car park. We had to keep the curtains closed for the duration of our stay because we would have had no privacy […] from passersby.The room itself was small and basic and there were coffee cup rings on the furniture. An air vent in the bathroom fell off the wall and couldn't be replaced because it had been stuck on with glue. The room was cold because the radiator under the window was not working. We were told by reception that the central heating was switched off and that we were to use an electric heater on another wall which worked less well. We found an external door on our corridor lying open several times which let in the cold and was also a security risk. Our room rate included breakfastwhich was served in the main building and required us to walk across the car park - not ideal in sub zero temperatures. Breakfast itself was good in terms of choice and quality of the food and the level of service. It is unlikely that I will stay in this hotel again because of the size and quality of the room but I might consider it if offered a bigger room in the main building that is not on the ground floor and has a better view. The complex also has a commercial centre comprising an upmarket shop, and cinema and there is a swimming pool and water slide which add to the experience but suggest that the accomodation needs to be brought up to the same level to be 4 star. first time in aviemore and couldnt have stayed in a better place to explore everything service excellent and the breakfast was brill definately use it again

the hotel was adequate but overpriced compared to neighbouring hotels. the hotel restaurant was also expensive.

Good, clean hotel well situated with ample parking. We stayed the night before the Aviemore half marathon, 2011 and sadly the hotel staff were not prepared for breakfast on race morning when hundreds of people descended for 7.30am breakfast. This could have been easily avoided by letting people sit down and help themselves. On a normal weekend, I have no doubt the hotel would run smoothly but they should have been prepared for that morning and weren't! Mehr

The staff were very helpful and friendly . The stay was enjoyable with good quality and variety of food for breakfast. We were however dissappointed that although we booked our 3 night stay about 9 months in advance that we were given a room with a view of a hotel wall- we were not impressed.A reduced rate should be given for the small number of rooms […] with such a poor outlook. For anyone on a driving trip to the Scottish Highlands, Macdonald Aviemore Higland hotel is the best of all possible choices. Centrally located in a small, attractive year-round resort community, with all required services. Spa facilities, excellent service, modern large rooms with all the amenities familiar to US travellers in particular. We stayed 1 night on a B&B basis to attend a wedding. The room was very good and we had free access to the leisure facilities (including towels). Staff were friendly and helpful and check in/out efficient. Buffet style breakfast was excellent with good choice and unusually high quality ingredients. Good value.

it is a good hotel with very good facilities, but rooms are not four stars. Both bathroom and room were small.

Went to try and check in about 13.30 to go back around the facilities but check in at 16.00 most annoying after travelling there want to change and freshen up. Rooms were tidy, bed very comfy, but noise from corridors woke us up in morning . Last thing queing for the breakfast for nearly 30minutes was ridiculous and when we got to table there was no […] orange juice left, and some of the hot plate were finished. Definitely NOT a 4 star. Facilities don` t say nothing about actual hotel. Won`t go yhere again, saw the Cairngorm Hotel down the road and ate there, superb meal and service. Mehr

Wanted a weekend away. Hotel is 10 mins walk into centre of Aviemore and a good base to explore the area. Massive comfy bed and large room. Bit of a queue for breakfast when we were there as it was quite busy. Massive choice and tasty food with very strong coffee. Bathroom needed a but of TLC but overall good. Room had every facility. Quick night away, and had been to the Highland Resort before so no great surprises. Room very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Front desk staff friendly and helpfull, even when stupid enough to leave keycard in room. Didnt eat in the restaurant at night, only breakfast, but staff didn't seem particularly interested.... Comfortable stay in a hotel with not much character a resort of 3 and not v. clear where to go when we arrived. Aviemore sad place in summer, guess in season for skiiers its better!

The rooms were pleasant, though the TV was very basic and couldn't even get digital channels. Breakfast was good, if you ignored the Piano playing with itself at the entrance. Avoid eating on site where possible, better food available elsewhere.
