The Beekman Tower Hotel - New York

The Beekman is well situated in manhatten, close to UN HQ, and about a 20min walk to Time square. Also convinient for tour buses, pick up at Waldorf hotel (ten min walk). Staff were great and helpful with local info. The room was very big but decor and furnature was old and frayed. NYC buildings are required to have bricks checked acne repaired regularly. That grinding and pounding work was going on outside my room. Dust actually came through the windows and was all over the desk area. Rooms are huge with full kitchens (bigger than my first NYC apt). Clean generally but old. And then there was the dust... S just 2 stars.

My 9 year old grandson and I stayed at the Beekman Tower Hotel the day before leaving on our cruise. The staff were very friendly and accomodating to all our needs. As we had arrived at 8:30 in the morning and had a full day planned they kept our luggage and were very helpful with directions and places to go. We arrived back at 8:00 at night and were […] pleasantly surprised with our suite. We ate in the restaurant which was one of the highlights of our day.. the fabulous food and view was spectacular. Very outdated! Nothing like the pictures online.

First let me start by pointing out that i reserved a one bedroom suite Sept/2011...... This one bedroom was not actually in the hotel, but it was in the building next door to the hotel that was owned by them. It was very dark and gloomy very outdated, dusty and scary. when i walked in i told the door man it felt as if someone died in the room and i […] was uneasy, his reply was "possibly, it did used to be an apartment building". I changed my clothes and left to spend the night at a friends place. The next day i returned to get a change of clothing and met up with friends and stayed the night at my cousins very small apartment. i did this for the next few days, only going there to change and do my hair. I found a disgusting amount of dust, hair and used razors between the sink and shower when i dropped my eyeliner in the bathroom. Yuck!! On the last night i was there later then normal (almost slept there this night) and found BEDBUGS in the bedroom and bathroom!! My friend came over and helped me shake out all my luggage before leaving checking out early and never going back EVER!! i am so glad i never slept or showered there, and unfortunately i spent the entire next day doing laundry.... I dont know what the main hotel/tower is like, maybe better - maybe not, ill never know. Mehr

I booked this room for one night as part of a one-year anniversary celebration, and it served its purpose perfectly. The room was huge (especially by NYC standards) and relatively clean (although the furniture was a bit dingy, with some small stains here and there). Steps away from the UN building. No nearby subway access but the M15 Select bus running up 1st Ave and down 2nd Ave is quick and reliable. An overall great experience. We booked the room based on other reviews and pictures of the place. We weren't aware that there is a separate building next to the main tower that they stuck us in that weren't in the pictures. We had to leave the main building, walk outside and go in a building where the hallways are about 4 feet wide. The room was very outdated, there were holes […] in the closet, the scaffolding blocked any view outside the window and we didn't have a comforter, just a couple of sheets. The carpets were pretty old so we walked in the room with our shoes on. The towels smelled and our pillowcase had holes in it. They also booked the room to someone else and someone walked into our room 6 in the morning and scaring my girlfriend. Mehr

An old massive and impersonal hotel with outdated furniture. I did not even dare to try the restaurant as the appearance of the rest was so abandoned. Too much money paid for too little comfort.

Carpet is very deity.

The location was perfect! Located in more of a residential neighborhood, it was only a few minutes walk and you're right in the thick of things (midtown). There was a huge selection of restaurants within a few blocks. The room in itself was pleasingly spacious, though the furnishings were a bit old and outdated... Who cares? I highly recommend the Beekman Tower Hotel in New York. The location is great and it offers a lot for its price!

Room a bit worn looking but everything was adequate. Nice to have kitcheonette for bkfast and leftovers. Hassle free checkin and checkout, housekeeping fine. Brought sheets for sofa bed while we were out without needing to ask. 2 streets and 3 avenues from nearest subway, so best for people who don't mind walking or taking cabs. Neighborhood pleasant, […] with nearby playground. Tell cabbie 49th St and 1st Ave to avoid extra fare while cabbie looks for Mitchell place. Mehr

This hotel is within walking distance to Times Square, Central Park, and other attractions, but not so close that the streets are noisy and crowded. It's just off FDR drive - next to the U.N. buildings, and surprisingly easy to drive to. We stayed in a suite so that our kids could sleep on the fold-out sofa, and it was great. The kitchen was more than […] adequate - a full kitchen. One small challenge was that the only bathroom was off the bedroom, but that's not a huge problem for most people. The hotel was nice and the staff was very nice. The first night our Air conditioning wasn't working and my 18 month old daughter found something on the floor that she shouldn't have. Anyways we told them next morning and we were upgraded to a much much better room. The service was great. I would stay there again but make sure when you check in the room […] that everything works because it is a older hotel. We enjoyed the location because it wasn't the typical time square or mid town area. Mehr

The staff was especially good, gracious and solicitous .Take some time to admire the art deco architecture.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. My husband and I were very satisfied with it. The staff was very helpful. We had a bad phone in the room and they were up in our room to fix it within 10 minutes. The bed was comfortable (although we should have had a queen but we think it was a full). The Beekman is an historic hotel in a nice Art Deco Building. Suites are huge, with full kitchens, and are surprisingly quiet. Rates are very reasonable for this much room. On the flip side internet is spotty to non-existent, furniture is old and worn, decor is somewhat shabby, and cleanliness is only adequate. I decided to stay here based on a friend's recommendation. Our fight was delayed 7 hours from Atlanta so when we arrived at the hotel at 2am we were exhausted. When we checked in, the AC was turned off in the room. It was in the mid 90's in NYC that day. As it turned out, the AC was broken. I was stunned that we would have been put in a room in such […] bad condition. We were upgraded to a lovely room and allowed to stay there for 2 nights. We were very pleased with that. Our last night was in a decent room - much like the first - and the AC was broken in the master bedroom. We opted not to move for a 4th time although they were willing to put us in another room. The best part about this hotel is the people that work there. They tried very hard to "right" all that went wrong, but having 3 rooms over 3 nights, and the general condition of the rooms was just too much. I really wish we'd stayed somewhere else. Mehr

This hotel, where I had booked a room but ended up with a suite of roughly 900 square feet on the 26th floor, including kitchenette, dining space, bedroom, and two (2) TVs and baths, was perfectly situated as I was to meet a friend in a restaurant within easy walking distance. The view was all encompassing and gorgeous...I was mesmerized by the barges […] moving down the East River. I can also recommend the coffee shop across the street on First Avenue where I had a delicious breakfast and learned the definition of a bialy from the Mexican waiter...Viva New York! Mehr

The hotel was a bit old and not very up to date. There was no wi-fi in our room. But the building the hotel lies in, is beautiful. Walking distance to 5th Avenue, and just a very short stroll to UN. The restaurant in the hotel on the 26th floor was good with great views.

Hotel bed was nice but had to change room due to broken air conditioner- couches as old as the hills And front desk charged my card for no reason and didnt know why Had to spend time at dEsk You have to b on top of Things Doorman john was not around to help w bags But was happy to take tips w no personality You get what you pay for so this was ok but […] ill spend more on better service hotel next time Mehr

The room was spacious but bathroom tiny for size of room. Bed was great. Cockroaches in bathroom was annoying and smell of smoke in the hallways not environmentally good but rooms were great and top of the tower restaurant was excellent. Fairly easy walk to subway and Grand Central Station. Not far from stores and was quiet at night.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean but need updating (wallpaper was peeling. Interesting location, but all the way on the East Side near the UN so it's a trek to central midtown. Only complaint- had to call maid to return a second set of towels (which are very generic and not luxurious). Good value for the money.

WE KILLED TWO ROACHES WALKING ACROSS THE CARPET IN ROOM 7F. I GAVE THEM TO THE MANAGER THE NEXT DAY. SHE GAVE US A FREE NIGHT AND FREE DINNERS FOR TWO AT THE TOP OF THE TOWER. THE FOOD AND VIEW AT THE TOP WAS GREAT. THE SCALLOP APPETIZER WITH CHOCOLATE BING CHERRIES WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. I had not stayed there and nothing has changed or been updated! The Service staff are the best but the hotel is tired and in need of an overhaul. They were drilling on bricks outside while I was there. There should always be a courtesy alert when you are headed to a hotel under construction.

We stayed for a week this year and last year, great location, great staff, great comfort in the superior bedroom, really enjoyed new York, however on this trip, we were disappointed on the last night, when we discovered a large insect (like a big cockroach). ROOM WAS SUPERB AS WAS RESTAURANT ON THE TOP FLOOR. FRIENDLY STAFF, COMFORTABLE MATRESS - 5 STAR!

Furniture & carpets worn and tattered. This is not a 3 star hotel. I will say the people that work there were very nice, but the place needs a total renovation.

I very happy to stay in NYC with my girlfriend, the Beekman Hotel it's very nice place to stay, the room is clean and very organized, the employees are so polite and helpful. Maybe we gonna return and stay there again.

The only down side of our stay at the Beekman was the valet parking after we checked out of the hotel. The car arrived promptly as promised. However, the person who brought the car around adjusted the seat back and steering wheel. I understand that the seat had to be moved forward and mirrors adjusted because the driver is shorter than me. But the seat […] back and steering wheel did NOT have to be moved, and the radio was at a much higher volume than where I had left it when I turned it off before having the valet park it the night before. This old beauty is very well-located and my room was very quiet. There is a sitting area and kitchenette which can be handy, but when in NYC I love eating out; even take-out is amzing. But the room really could use some refreshing. The rug was kind of nasty and the loveseat had one of those cheap stretch things covering it which always moved uncovering […] the stained orginal loveseat underneath. The price I got for the room was very fair and made up for the room's funkiness, so I took it in stride. The people who work there, from desk, to door, to maidservice, are lovely. And there's a great roof-top bar/restaurant with amazing city and river views. I'd stay again if the price was right. Mehr

THe hotel is located near the United Nations. There are busses uptown, downtown and crosstown. So, eventhough it wasn't in the heart of where we wanted to be, we could easily get anywhere. The hotel is well kept, but it does show its age. THe rooms were clean, and housekeeping came diaily like clockwork. The hotel staff is very nice and they upgraded […] us to a suite, which was excellent for NYC space. The restaurant on the roof had great views, but the service took a while. If you wanted to have cocktails and relax, its the place to go! For the price, this hotel is a real find. You need to accept it for its age, and just enjoy it. I would certainly stay there again! I have tried several hotels in the neighbourhood and feel that the Beekman offers the best value - especially if you are lucky enough to get an upper floor room with a view of the city. Staff are friendly and helpful. I did not use the kitchen except to make coffee. While it is right over on the east side of midtown, it is within easy reach of sights […] and the hub of activity and I have felt quite safe walking nearby, even at night. A useful deli and good diner for breakfast are just across the road. Mehr

From the other reviews it was about what I expected. It looks like the place hasn't been updated at all since the early 90s, maybe. But it was clean and the deluxe king room was a good size for our clan of 5. The sleep sofa was really uncomfortable so we took the mattress off and slept with it on the floor. So if you're not expecting fancy, you need […] some space to spread out, and you're willing to make do a bit, this is a pretty good place. Their website is extremely misleading as to the quality of the place. Also of note is that it is about 5 blocks to the subway, but we did it fairly easily with small children in tow. Mehr

We were comfortable with the room which had a small kitchen. We like the fact that pets are accepted and we can bring our dog. But the hotel needs to be updated desperately. The tv was very old in fact it did not work at all. At least the rugs should be changed
