Melrose Mansion - New Orleans

The hotel is nice and the staff very friendly, but I was surprised by deficiencies in the room and service. We stayed in the Parc Henri Master suite - a huge room overlooking the pool. Large and pretty but surprisingly impractical. (The rooms are each unique others may be better.) No table or desk to sit at. The bathroom, while gigantic and beatiful, […] offered little counter space as the vanity consisted of two side-by-side pedestal sinks. Very inconvenient for my wife with hair dryer, curling iron, hair products and makeup - a standard single vanity counter offers more space. Even the shower was beautiful but disappointing. A large glass walled tub/shower, the shower head is *directly* overhead and sprays straight down - no angle. Water is either pouring over your head or you're not getting wet. Annoying solo and ruins a romantic shower for two. Large king bed but not particularly good - bothered both our backs. Also, while our room has a nice little espresso maker with 2 coffee pucks, after we used them they were never replenished during our 4 nights. Offered breakfast also disappointing: coffee, some juice and only sweets to eat: danishes, muffins and breads. No fruit, no bagels - nothing healthy or warm. Pros: staff very nice and friendly, nice pool, and the hotel is very pretty. While not in the heart of the French Quarter, it's also quiet and you can walk to everything. Summary: For the cost, not worth it. Minor changes to the room would have made a huge difference. Mehr

Beautiful hotel. Good view. Amazing pool. Great bath. Clean rooms. Good service. Within walking distance of bourbon and much of downtown. Hard to find parking which is very typical of new Orleans. Just a short drive from anything in new Orleans that you would want to see.

This Mansion was very comfortable and quiet. we enjoyed the house and the staff. The free contiental breakfast was descent (Cofee and a Danish) but we did not complain, the house is in a nice area and walking distance to the french quarter and the french market. comfortable room and bed that was clean and quiet.

Melrose was recently renovated and is clean and beautiful. Short walk to heart of French Quarter but in safe, quiet neighborhood. No on-site parking which is a bit of a hassle but manageable. I recently stayed here for a mini vacation to New Orleans, and I was quite scared of what to expect of the reviews. Read bad & good... well here is the truth... 5 star service, clean, amazing, and the staff is amazing! While the hotel could upgrade mattresses, I had an amazing time. We had a master suite in the front of the house that over looked the […] street with the amazing bath tub. Yes our room was visited by the ghost of Ms Kitty, it was amazing experience and I would truly recommend this place to everyone. Wine and cheese at 6pm, and fresh coffee and pastries in the morning in the pool area. This place will no doubt be an amazing place in the next few months, but I will always stay here when I revisit New Orleans. Mehr

Heard about this hotel from a friend who LOVED it. Waited for over a month to see this place. No parking at all. Got there and we were impressed right away (check in area only) . Paid for a MASTER SUITE. Got to our room and it looked like a mini poolhouse with a view of the laundry room. No balcony, no microwave, safe, no big TV, and the "pillow top […] mattress" was an old , hard, beat up mattress with a comforter on top. Sheets and couch cover had stains on them. Bed and bath tub had hair in them. Needless to say I was very unhappy and disappointed. This night was my first anniversary and it was almost ruined by this room. I was so upset that after checking in just 1 hour before i had my bags in hand and was about to check out. I spoke with the guy at the front desk and he told me to wait and he could show me another room if i was interested. I said yes and the next room he showed me was great and looked like a room on the website. It was big, had a huge bathroom, jacuzzi tub, 50 flat screen and huge , comfortable bed. Well, we stayed the night. The NEW room was great. Here is my problem with the whole situation. If that room was available the whole time, then why did we get put out in the doghouse when we clearly paid for the big room to begin with. I believe they thought they could pull one over on us.. I will say that the hotel room we wound up with was great but just that 1 experience ruined their chances for me again. We go to N.O. a lot and there are PLENTY reasonable and nicer places to stay. Oh and we parked BLOCKS away multiple times during the weekend because it is on a busy street with no lot to park in. I would recommend this place on a Last Resort basis only. Good Luck Mehr

The hotel adds the extra touch that gives new Orleans it's magical uniqueness. One can't help falling romantically into a love affair with the city and the special someone you bring with you or perhaps meet. I am a native to New Orleans and used to live right around the corner and never new of this gem. The remodeling apparently worked and it looks exactly as it is presented in the photos. Was the best local stay for me and my husband who now live quite the distance away. Won't stay anywhere else!

The Melrose is a beautifull facillity. The renovation and updates while still doing a few small things will be a location of choice. The only concern is there was no place to put clothes other than on the floor or in the closet with no dresser present. Property was remodeled in the fall of 2011 and is beautiful. If booking online, call after booking to confirm that they have the specific type of room you booked as it is only a 14 room property and the online listings are not necessarily accurate. Rooms are very nice -- only complaint is that they do not have enough furniture in some of the rooms. […] We would definitely stay there again. Mehr

I think I'll have to go the technical route with this review... PROs and CONs: PRO *Very friendly service *Great location *Fantastic ambience and theme *Pool (although weather too cold to swim) *24-hr fitness room *Breakfast (although small selection) *Nice flat screen TV *Very nice bathroom! CON *Computer system that seems to mess up the employees *Unclean […] sheets and furniture (which they did not offer any proper compensation for this infraction -- they offered a pack of beer) *$150 incidental hold charge that was not mentioned prior to booking *Another 8 bucks a night for amenities (fine print) *Thin walls *Old armoire *No parking (street only and the signs make it hard to figure out where you can park) So given these things... I would take it with a grain of salt. There are many things they canstill improve to justify paying full price. However, it is still worth staying to remain close to the French Quarter. Mehr

I really liked the actual room itself. Although, they said they offered breakfast in AM, & there was none. The map from my door to their's, had me exit in a location that I was truely terrified. But once we made it to the hotel, I enjoyed my stay overall. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean & very nice.

We hebben een heerlijke tijd gehad in dit romantische hotel. Heel gastvrij ontvangen door aardig en behulpzaam personeel. Het hotel zit op loopafstand van Bourbon street en Frenchmen street is 3 blokken de andere kant op. Parkeren van je auto kan problematisch zijn, het hotel heeft alleen een klein stukje stoep beschikbaar. Het ontbijt is aan de karige […] kant, maar in de buurt zijn genoeg leuke cafés om een ontbijtje te halen. Internet in het hotel werkte goed. Mehr
