I ordered oatmeal through room service for breakfast. I received a very small amount of food, without and sides such as brown sugar or rasins. Cost $27. Terrible!

Enjoyed the stay, however entrance by elevator had bad odor as if carpet was wet, felt like staff could of put up deodorizers, service was great, food from bar area was good, would stay again.

Hotel is across from a location where you have homeless ppl so you dont want to park around the area but when you valet just for one night it is $27 so just dont go here at all.

Well.....the hotel is old which is not bad, but when we arrived, across the street there was a large contingency of homeless people which is scary. Also when we returned from a movie at midnight one approached us for money. I would NOT stay here again because of the homeless simply for safety. The room was not bad. Great location if you want to take in an Astros game. 3 Blocks away-easy walk and a great bar in the hotel. The Sam Bar. The downtown area gets a little random at night with homeless so don't wander around.

Rooms were well decorated but not very clean, bar was very trandy and busy. Everything is extra, not even a bottle of water in the room so you have to pay $5 for a small Fiji water. I loved staying at this hotel. The room was very comforatable and staff was great. I wish I could have stayed longer! Great showers!

The hotel was very nice. Only complaint us mandatory valet marking $25 a night can add up when staying several nights like we did.

Stayed for business. Shuttle service was great. Restaurant was not busy & pretty good. A bit overpriced but not bad.

We had a wonderful weekend! Check in was flawless. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We wanted to eat at the restaurant, but did not make a reservation. It's small, so if you plan to eat there, be sure to make a reservation early. The valet service and shuttle service took us everywhere downtown we wanted to go. Mike, our driver, was so friendly […] and helpful. Jessica at the front desk recommended an amazing place for breakfast. After our return from dinner we had a great Valentine's Day amenity in our room. Added to the romance and sparkle of a fabulous weekend. We will be back to the Alden! Mehr

I was surprised when I saw the lower rate for the week I was there. pro: convenient location, very comfortable room. free wireless. con: the advertised resteraunt never opened. all meals were served at the bar. understaffed. I saw someone's room service tray sitting outside of their door for an entire day. Only parking option is valet. Poor quality […] TV's in the room. Not enough counter space in the bathrooms. Nice place but I'll move on to the Derek next time. Mehr

Room was fine....but the counter space in bathroom is tiny. Stand up shower only too. Nice free car service takes you where you want to go. Restaurant downstairs is nice. But for a Houston TX hotel this should have been bigger...tried to be a little too chic for this town.

Front desk was barely cordial. Hotel was old and dreary feeling... I'll stay somewhere else next time.

We liked this hotel and the price. The room was very nice on the macro level, but needed a fair amount of TLC on the micro level. For example, the window blinds were broken, the alarm clock displayed the wrong time (by an hour), the couch had a big tear in it, one side of the bed had no reading lamp, the TV was old and the remote control needed new […] batteries. There were other problems like this. Also, the previous guest's room service dishes were outside our room when we checked in and still there when we checked out. And perhaps oddest of all, when the staff delivered our express check-out papers under the door, they knocked on the door five times even though we had a "do not disturb" sign up. It seems they wanted to make sure we got out! The staff really needs to pay attention to the small stuff - which, to me, is the difference between a good hotel and a great hotel. For the price, I was relatively happy. However, I'm not sure I'd stay there again. Mehr

Very chic hotel in the heart of downtown, would definitelty stay again.

I needed a convenient place to sleep for two nights recently and the Alden was aggressively priced and at a reasonably place location. If all you're looking for is a place to park your luggage and bed to sleep in, then the Alden may suit your budgetary needs. The hotel staff was cold, professional and clearly not in the least bit interested in welcoming […] a potential return guest. I felt like they were doing me a favor by allowing me to visit their hotel. I would not recommend the Alden to any traveller that is new or first time visitor to Houston or anyone interested in a weekend getaway to downtown Houston. The staff simply does not care about your experience at their facility. If you expect more than a clean bed, tv, and shower, then I highly recommend that you look elsewhere. Very disappointed. Mehr

Was a great hotel.

The shower leaked onto the floor of the bathroom several times. Not enough counter space in the bathroom. No complimentary water. Doesnt appear to be enough staff.

I stayed for one night w/my girlfriend, and it was a very satisfying experience. The room was small, but cozy. So many hotel rooms look the same from one place to the next. This was a change of pace, for sure. A nice bathroom with a quality shower (unfortunately, a rarity, it seems). It even had a DVD player, which was awesome. The only complaint I […] have was the quality of the TV...a tube-TV with a flat "screen" just didn't seem to make the grade. Other than that, a flawless stay. Mehr

The bed felt like giant hug. Nice room. Bars and nightlife easily accessible.

Nice renovation job. Pretty decor, comfortable room, but NO COFFEE POT???

We had to have the room toilet plunged by maintenance 4 times and had to call 2 different days for the room to be made up in afternoon after being out in the morning and afternoon. Overall the staff was very pleasant and responsive to our problems but did not offer a change of room with all of the problems we were having with the bathroom.. No coffee […] maker or refrigerators in the rooms and a there was a charge of $3 per cup in the lobby. Overall the Alden was a nice place, but I will be checking other properties on my next few business stays in Houston. Mehr

I recomend this hotel to everyone that is going to travel to houston. I was very impressed with the staff they where very nice and helpful. Also a very special thank you to the driver although we did not get his name he was the highlight of our trip. He went out of his way to let us know the fun hang outs and was very prompt when picking us up from […] the ball park. Over all this stay was the best we have ever had in houston. Mehr

Went down to the bar to get a drink for me and my girlfriend - $36 for two drinks! Parking is $25 per day at the hotel. Hotel itself is very nice, no complaints. Just think there might be a few others that compare in quality/price/location.

We were booked into adjacent rooms (as were were told on booking) One party was on fourth floor ,one party on 10th floor is this a new meaning of Adjacent . An "event" was going on and the music and bass thumping was so loud if could be heard on the steets not to mention the fourth floor room that was directly "to the rear and over it the venue..: Music […] can be loud but if should not be deafening to individuals floors away. It did stop at 1 AM as promised by the desk attendant , however, her reaction to my complaint was that the music was loud in the lobby also. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, under any cirumstances. My next over night trip to downtown Houston will find me several blocks way where we have stayed in the past. with much more enjoyable experinces in room size, personnel , general services and setting . My stay at the Alden was great and I would come back. I checked in on a Thursday and on my floor there were some dirty dishes and ice buckets in the hallway. So, I am thinking that these items will be picked up by morning. When I got up the next morning these same items (dishes, ice buckets, etc.) were still in the hallway. I go out of the hotel for […] a few hours and return to these same items in the hallway and by checkout time on Friday the dishes, ice buckets, etc. where never picked up from the hallway. Housekeeping needs to improve on getting dirty dishes out of the hallway when guest are finished with them, this is not a good look. Mehr

When first arriving to the hotel, I was taken back by the front desk lady. She did not seem nice or as if she cared that we were there to check-in. The room was a nice size considering my boyfriend and I were there for a "staycation", we didn't need much. The air was up really high, so the room was extremely hot when first arriving -and it took forever […] to cool off. We had planned to order room service but the menu was extremely limited and very, very pricy. We ordered a pizza instead and called the front desk to get extra cups (there was only one in the bathroom), extra towels, and a bucket of ice. At the end of the night only the towels were brought up, no bucket of ice or extra cups. The bed was comfortable but out throw pillow had a mysterious stain on the back of it. I didn't get much sleep because the room was just too hot for my comfort. Also, the hotel did not have curtains over the window, so when the sun began to rise it was coming through the little cracks the mini-blinds did not cover. At check-out, the front desk lady (different lady from check-in) also seemed like I was bugging her and was not very nice about our leaving. Overall, I will never stay at this hotel again. I paid too much for such poor service. Mehr

Do not stay in this hotel! the rooms are tiny! this building looks like it was an old building where people were killed. has a horrible feeling. when we got to our room there was a hand print on the wall and some kind of liquid coming down the wall from the picture. You have NO privacy you can hear everything with the paper thin walls. damp feeling. […] NO parking! you either pay for valet or find your own parking that is far away. Very crowded area where you cant even take off your luggage. Not family friendly at aLL! just take my advice and do not stay!! Mehr

We only stayed for one night, but would have stayed more with out any concerns. Front desk was pleasent, room was quiet and very clean, not to mention comfortable with up to date deco. The only down fall is parking. They wanted a $25.00 per night parking valet. We parked down the street at a meter since we arrived on Sunday, (free pkg) and were sure […] to put money in on Monday morning, (we were leaving early anyway).
