Mosquito Blue Hotel & Spa - Playa del Carmen

We were informed that we were checked into the wrong room. After switching us to a "better" room, we found it was NOT indeed, better. We decided to stay in our original room when we were informed that it would cost $18 extra to do so. Whether we were put in the right room or not, I think it would have been better to just eat that cost in lieu of the […] mistake. They did end up not charging us extra at the end, but the staff was unaware as to how to put out a small brush fire on their own. All in all, it's a nice hotel, I think there needs to be a little more effort in making the customer comfortable, though. Mehr

This is a really lovely little boutique hotel that's ideally located. Right now (March 2011), there is major construction going on next door, so many of the rooms at Mosquito Blue are quite noisy. If you go, make sure to ask for a room far from the construction. It was 2 doors down from our room and it sounded like people with 5 hammers were pounding […] on our wall from 7 am till 6 pm. The mornings started way too early. If it weren't for that -- and the construction will end some day -- I'd recommend it. Mehr

This was a beautiful hotel, no questions asked. It was in the details that I found frustration. Our request for a king bed went unnoticed and we ended up with 2 doubles. A housekeeper came into our room somewhere between 7-9 pm (for no clear reason) and we found 3 clean pairs of so eone elsewhere socks sitting there without explanation. I found this […] very odd. Finally, my biggest complaint was about the spa experience. DON'T DO IT! Total rip off. First off the quality of the treatment was really bad. The girl giving it was lovely, but she clearly had no clue what she was doing. I requested the exfoliation treatment, which costs $100 us for 50 min. For at rate I expected my body to be sparkling and soft when I was finished. That just was not even close to the case. She used about 1 teaspoon of the actual exfoliating product on each quadrant and then used a regular kitchen sponge to wipe it off. Big disappointment and big waste or money. Mehr

Outstanding attentiveness by the staff. Wonderful ambiance. I would absolutely stay here again. Access to the sister property's (Mosquito Beach Hotel)beach and breakfast is included, so I would prefer to stay here and make the short walk through the downtown village.

The hotel was modern and the staff was very nice, but the room didn't have any soundproofing and was very loud. We were woken up every night or early morning by others in the hotel, a nearby club and construction. The beds weren't very comfortable. The location was great and using the Mosquito Beach Club was nice.

The Mosquito Blue is a great hotel to stay when in Playa. It not in front of the beach but you have access to the beach club of the Mosquito Beach + the breakfast is included for some period during winter so you cn start your day having a good breakfast looking at the sea in the mosquito beach. The blue has a nice seating area and a pool table which […] is convenient if you are with friends and want to spend some time after the sun has set. Location is great right in the middle of everything.. it might not be very quite in some of the rooms but noise I don't think would be enough to not let you sleep. In general a good experience. This hotel had great service and was in an excellent location. We did have problems with our air conditioning, but were immediately resettled into a different room. We loved that the hotel was near the night life, but still had the amenities of a beach hotel (due to its sister hotel, Mosquito Beach). My only complaint was the comfort of the beds -- […] they were extremely hard. For that reason, I would not recommend this hotel to others. Mehr

I go to Playa 4-5 times a year and this was my first time to stay at Mosquito Blue. I was very pleased. The location was perfect... you are right in the middle of everything. My room overlooked 5th Avenue, and although it's a pretty busy and loud street, especially late at night, it did not disturb me at all! The room and bathroom were very cute and […] clean. The pool was nice and it was great having internet access by the pool. Beds were just ok... but I didnt do a whole lot of sleeping on my trip anyways! Didnt get a chance to eat at the restaurant, but it was absolutely gorgeous. Did have the free breakfast at the other hotel - Mosquito Beach - and it was great. I cant wait to stay at Mosquito Blue again! Mehr

We found the staff at this hotel rather distant and cold, and were very dissatisfied with the reservations staff and manager in particular. Our outbound flight was cancelled due to a snow-storm, and when we called to change the reservation to a day later, they were very accommodating, "no problem!" They changed their story once we got there, and sprung […] an extra day's charge on us! We were horrified, because this hotel was a big splurge for us, and we had not budgeted for this significant extra charge. The reservations manager was, actually, quite rude to us - shockingly so, so much that it cast a dark cloud on our stay. The hotel itself was adequately clean, but lacked charisma. The room was a big disappointment - we had booked because of the lavishly described ultra premium Egyptian cotton sheets advertised on the web page, but instead found scratchy polyester blend sheets and uncomfortable pillows. Mosquito Blue was a great hotel. We would definitely stay there again. It is in a great location on 5th street but not for the light sleeper. It is situated between the lively 5th street and the new Coco Bongos. A great place for late nighters who like to be in the center of town. The showers are a trickle but the atmosphere is an oasis from town.

We just took our "BabyMoon" in Play del Carmen. This hotel was the perfect place for it. The staff was friendly, helpful and spoke English very well. The grounds were beautiful and peaceful. The ambiance was never-ending "chill". They played loungy/chill-out music all day and evening. We stayed in a junior suite on the first floor and had the doors […] to the courtyard open whenever we were in our room. Felt very safe. Never questioned the integrity of the cleaning staff. The location was perfectly situated on 5th Ave. It was right in the middle...a mile in each direction of shops, boutiques, vendors, yummy restaurants and bars. And the sister hotel (Mosquito Beach) is just a couple leiurely blocks away which is perfect for playing/relaxing on the beach. Great service there, too. Oh, and the French restaurant at Mosquito Blue was incredible. We wish we would have eaten there a couple more times. We now plan to make this a yearly trip and plan on staying at this hotel many more times. It is definitely the best boutique hotel in the area. Mehr

I never write these reviews, but we were so pleasantly surprised with our hotel that I felt the need to do so. The location is fantastic. The hotel is not on the beach, but the sister hotel, Mosquito Beach is literally two blocks away and you can utilize their beach all day. The service on the beach was amazing as well. Waiters walking around all day, […] employees offering to put up umbrellas for you, etc. Our hotel was extremely clean. While it doesn't offer crazy amenities, it is all you need. It's very clean, the front desk staff is extremely helpful, and they can get you anything you need. We were extremely happy with Mosquito Blue and would recommend it to anyone! Mehr

Hotel is located on the main tourist shopping/dining street, and is also only 2 blocks from the beach. There is also a sister hotel, Mosquito Beach, on the beach where you can charge food and drinks to your room. So it is very convenient. Staff was very helpful. The rooms were nicely designed and clean. We had a first floor room that looked out onto […] one of the pools, which was somewhat worrisome for privacy reasons but that ended up not being a problem. Bathroom was very nice. Bed was comfortable, although the sheets could have been better. Only potential problem was because of its proximity to bars and nightclubs, the noise at night could be problematic for a light sleeper (it wasn't for us). I would definitely recommend the hotel. Me quede en el cuarto 104, para mi gusto podrian mejorar el aire acondicionado buscar una manera que no se sientiera tanta humedad en esa habitacion, me he quedado en otras y no se siente eso.

Excelente recepção. Ótimo atendimento. Perfeito em tudo. Não poderia ter localização melhor, ao lado da CocoBongo, e próximo a praia.

El lugar es agradable, nuestra habitación limpia y silenciosa. Descansamos muy bien. Lo único que demeritó un poco el conjunto, fue el desayuno incluido, escaso y el servicio lento; poca atención y amabilidad por parte de los meseros.

Servicen er generelt upåklagelig, alt jeg spurte om fikk jeg raskt svar på. Roomservice, laundry-service, minibar etc. alt er veldig dyrt. Hotellet er ikke så altfor dyrt av seg, så det var et lite sjokk å se prisene(!) Men vil anbefale dette hotellet til alle som tåler litt bråk. (Ligger vegg-i-vegg) med en nattklubb som heter Brahma, der stopper […] ikke musikken før 6-7 på morgenen. Det er heller ikke frokost eller mat PÅ hotellet. Da må man gå ca.3-400m for å komme på et annet hotell. Dét er er minus. Mehr

excelente ubicacion. el personal de recepcion fue muy amable, excelente atencion y servicio. a pesar de estar en la zona de vida nocturna no tuvimos problemas con el ruido. a la habitacion le falta un poco de luz, todo lo demas fue perfecto. super recomendable.

Högt pris i förhållande till likvärdiga hotell i samma del av stranden Vi bodde på två andra hotell av samma klass för 90-100 dollar/natt

el servicio y la atencion son excelentes!!! el hotel es pequeño pero esta muy lindo y limpio el unico inconveniente es que NO TIENE ESTACIONAMIENTO!!! y la pagina NO lo indica, pero los alimentos del buffete del desayuno estan deliciosos... todo queda cerca muchas tiendas y lugares de diversion a pezar de que esta cerca de antros no se escucha ruidos... […] es muy buena opcion para los viajeros que no lleven automovil... de verdad es un hotel muy padre, limpieza, trato, servicio, ubicado, muy recomendable.

Tout est dans le titre ! l'hotel est très mignon, un vrai petit havre dans le plein centre de playa del carmen, la chambre etait très bien mais très bruyante. on entendait les basses de la boite de nuit d'a coté jusqu'à 6h du matin !
