It was in a good location to lots of things, but my room was not clean and their was black spots on the wall and a piece of carboard box was taped to the wall where their was a hole, The remote to the TV did not work, and the room smelled of cigerate smoke and it was suppose to be a non smoking room

The location is Lakewood, which is fine. The women behind the desk were professional and courtious. The room itself is another matter all together. The walls are paper thin and although there is a sound limit on the TV volume, the next door tv might as well have been in my room. As for cleansliness - it was not. The kitchen and bathroom floors were […] stained, dirty, flithy. The toilet seat ring had spots on it. The shower wasn't clean either. I will NEVER say at this hotel, or a Sun Suite again. Mehr

A bit of a scary place to stay. Not very good options to pick from.

As I was making a 1700 mile treck across the country, a good night's sleep was essential. Wrong hotel for that! I was awakened by the unmistakable sound of a dumpster being emptied. You know the lound metal banging sound and the "back-up beep" of the truck. I looked at the clock and it was 3am!! Who empties dumpsters at 3am??? Then I received a wake-up […] call at 5am...never requested a wake-up call. All rooms are entered from outside. There was a gap so large at the bottom of my door that any rodent could have entered unimpeded. I didn't take a ruler to it but it looked to be at least a 2 inch gap. I took a bath towel and stuffed in in the space in hopes of keeping critters and light out. I requested a non smoking room and when I walked in the room smelled of smoke. The office was also filled with the smell of cigarette smoke. I will never stay here again and DO NOT recommend it. Mehr

Nice for the price. Staff was friendly and accommodating. It was louder than i would have liked (can hear other rooms and outside easily). I liked that it was pet friendly, although my dog discovered what appeared to be someone's tooth behind the chair! Could have been cleaner. The office is a little hard to find and when I did I was told that they couldnt check me in because they was doing a shift change..... which I totally understood. The first room they put me I discovered after packing all my things up the stairs ( no one informed me there was a elevator) that the television didnt work. The front desk lady then gave me […] a room that a housekeeping lady told her not to give me and the toilet didnt work!!! Once I finally got into the third room everything was comfortable. We stopped here on our way from Florida. They gave us a room and when we opened the door found that the room had not been cleaned. But they quickly gave us another room that was clean and nice. We liked the place quite well.

We spent a night in Sunsuite on our way to Florida for Christmas with the grandchildren. The staff was very friendly and processed us throughly. The room was spacious and comfortable. We really enjoyed our night of relaxing and sleeping. Check out was prompt.

Service was terrible. It took over an hour for my information to come through so I could get my room. When I finally got in my room 30 mins later they(hotel workers) come and just open my door. Thank God I had the latch over the door. Will never go back.

I decided to go to the Magic City Classic at the last minute so all hotels were book. I had to pick from what was left and this is my fault. The prices were higher due to classic weekend and this room was not worth it at all. Plan ahead so you don't have to stay here.

Hotel was very clean....the only thing that I had a problem with was that we didnt have a choice as to rather or not we wanted or rooms cleaned or not.....I didnt like the fact that we had to go to the front desk and change out our towels....Also the pillows were way to small for the bed....they seem to have been for a twin bed....and the sheets were […] not tight fitted...they moved with you....But these are just basic things that could be changed over night to fit the comfort of customers.....But the room was very clean...bug free...and didnt smell...I wish I had gotten a bigger suite cause I really like the set up of the room...I would recommend my friends.thanks Mehr

I would highly recommend the Sun Suites of Birmingham. The staff were so friendly and helpful and while the rooms weren't large they were comfortable with all the ammenties.

the room was nasty! Needed painting, sheets, pillow cases had nasty spots on them. bought sheets to use. blanket had holes in it and was completely worn out. treatment plant by hotel and smell was unbearable. would not recommend to any one and will not stay again regardless of price.

Just need to let people know that the hotel is across from the sewer plant. The cooler air was good and did not smell the air. Actually now that we are home now we are just laughing about the smell.

Nice stay for the price. Had second thoughts as I drove back to hotel, but no problems. We arrived at 10:15pm and we were told that we arrived just in town. Hotel room smelled of strong cigarette smoke even though it was supposed to be non-smoking. Hotel staff were very friendly.

I am happy yet sad about my stay at Sun Suites. The room was great. But I lost one of my diamond rings there. I called back and they said they went back to the room I was in and looked but did not see it. The ring had great sentimental value to me. I was told that if they see it they would call. The hotel room to me seemed to be dirty. The floor was sticky and was really surprised there was no shampoo in the room. It was very hot when we got there and in my opinion the hotel staff could have gone in and turned on the air for us. It took several hours for the room to cool off. My stay here was great and enjoying.

Rooms were not in good shape. Towel bars were broken, coffee pot with no fixings, water stains, no towels, etc.

Clean but they only replace towels every few days. You always get what you pay for lol

For what I needed, it met my needs. All I was looking for was a place to sleep near the RTJ Golf Trail.

Sun is a good place if you need to be close to the city, willing to spend some money, and don't really care about service. Although the rooms were clean, No one cleaned the room the entier time I was there. The room was overpriced, although this was probably due to the influx of tuscaloosa refugees. Overall, I don't recommend it.

This hotel is mediocre at best. The toilet overflowed in our room and when I told the hotel staff, one of the ladies (with brown hair) had the most horrible attitude ever because she didn't know what she was doing. She wouldn't fix the toilet and because they had overbooked the room, we had NOWHERE to stay. They did not try to accomodate us at ALL. […] I would not recommend anyone stay there. Mehr

The room was so dirty and filled with smoke smell we went to Wal-Mart to purchase air freshners and spray just to be able to stand it for one night. Had no other option as we were among all those thousands displaced due to the tornado. Would never stay here again!!

At 1:00 a.m. we were awoken from a much needed sound sleep to bass rocking our room and loud voices and laughing. Next door had decided to have a party. When reported was told they didn't hear anything (the pictures were shaking on the wall)....finally after several calls.... they turned their music down and left...at 4:30 we were awoken again by same […] room. There was no shampoo in the hotel....no ice machine..and most importantly no coffee.....to top it off we had to check out early and the office didn't open until 8:00 a.m. so if you had to leave before then--too bad.....to be fair the location was really good and the day time staff were very nice and helpful and price was decent..ok if your spending one night and don't have to get up early.... Very nice!!!!! Normally, you get what you pay for. But here you get more. Very clean, comfortable, and affordable room.

We arrived 30 minutes after the check-in time. Room was not clean. They told us they would call when the room was ready. I asked for the keys anyway and left to grab a few things at the grocery store. Come back 30 minutes later and room is still not clean. We use the keys we were given and freshened up around the mess. We simply didn't have the time […] to wait for the maid service. When we were ready to leave for the night at 4:00, the maid service had just started on our room. From the overall feeling we got from the hotel staff, it seems this was a normal occurence for busy weekends. The tv remote didn't work We asked for a new one and it only turned the tv on and off. The hotel was the cheap and in a nice area (close to restaurants and a Wal-Mart), in turn the service was slow and very unproffesional. I would recommend this to people who absolutely need a cheap hotel but prefer a decent area to stay. Next time we will camp if we need a cheap alternative. Mehr

We spent one night at Sun Suites. The room was clean, plenty of room, and the bed was comfortable. The people were very friendly when we checked in, as were any other personnel that we had contact with. I would definetely recommend this location.

My mom and I were in Birmingham with my brother who was a patient in the cardiac ICU at UAB hospital. The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and 5 minutes from the hospital. With the touches of an efficiency apartment, we were able to save by having meals in the room and fix our lunches for our days at the hospital. The staff was professional, personable […] and just plain helpful. They really went above and beyond what they were expected to do...and this is not for us, but what we saw with other customers. I have every intention in using this hotel again...and again...and again. Mehr

Considering that I booked this place for cheap for a night and it ended up costing me $10 less than what they said it would be, this place was rather awesome. It wasn't exquisite in any way, but it wasn't bad. For it's price it was beyond my expectations.

Hotel isn't really located in Birmingham as the name suggests. It's actually located in Commons, a town outside Birmingham. Room smelled a bit musty. Walls were thin, could hear conversations in the next room. Location wasn't great because there were no restaurants nearby. The only place where you can pick up stuff like water/soda was a mini-mart at […] the gas station, which is about a 1/4 mile walk away from the hotel, which I don't recommend especially at night because of the isolated location of the entrance road. Beds weren't the most comfortable, but it did have kitchen facilities and a large refridgerator. I had no problems with their wireless internet access (you'll get a password at check in). The only quality I rate as good is the hotel had its own laundry facilities, which I needed after having spent the last few days in Tucaloosa with only three days worth of clothes. But there are only three washers and dryers, so there might be some competition for its usage (I did mine at night and there was no one there except for one fellow who was completing his when I started). Can't really recommend this place for a few days stay because of the isolated area and the quality of the room itself. Only recommended if you need a place to stay overnight and you need to watch your budget. Mehr

I have stayed there more than once and the rooms are not cleaned the best. It has that "old" building smell to it. Just an inexpensive place to stay for a night or two.

Well I went here kind of as a last minute decision on a very low budget. I read other reviews and was already expecting low quality, so I did get what I expected. The service desk reps were warm and friendly, so I had no issues with them. The smell outside was horid though. That was the only bad thing about the location. Luckily I couldn't smell it […] inside the room though. The hotel itself didn't look bad at all. The rooms were just as described and were pretty spacious for such a small area. The bed was way too hard for my liking though. My back has been hurting ever since I woke up the morning after. The walls were rediculously thin. I could hear TV, whole conversations, coughing, and anything else you could imagine. I felt the sounds were a little too close for comfort. I can say the hotel is a good place to go if you just need somewhere to lay your head at night and don't plan on staying in all day. That's all I used it for, and my only major complaint is the back pain. So definitely take your own sleeping bag or bed padding because those beds are no joke. Mehr

Noise from the adjoining rooms; thin walls. No glasses in the bathroom. Coffee pot in the room, but no fixings for the coffee itself.

We stayed at this same Hotel several years ago..it was fine, however, this time our room was very dirty. The carpet was filthy, the floor in the kitchenette and bathroom were sticky. There were no other rooms available in the area or we would have left. We will not be returning to this one again.

I loved everyone on the staff. The front desk people and service people never had an attitude and seemed to enjoy being there. Everyone there totally exceeded anyone I've ever delt with in traveling. That said, the rooms were filthy. Dirt in corners and hair imbedded in the mat between the bottom sheet and the mattress. The sinks and showers didn't […] drain correctly so standing water was a constant issue. The room said non-smoking but had ash trays on each table and in the kitchen area. Someone definately had been smoking in the room and we had to go out and buy spray airfreshners/sanitizers. 2x a day I sprayed the curtians, floors, and hanging parts of the comforters.The hotel is near a sewage treatment plant and the smell was well..WOW! It could make you cry if the wind hit it just right. Mehr

I must admit I didn't expect this place to be so nice and clean given the low rate but it was. And they still provide a FREE wireless internet access! The full kitchen and refrigerator would be great for extended stay.
