When we first arrived (very late at night) we were given a room that was in much need of repair. The beds were single only, the floor was dirty, the screen door was torn and the bathroom had missing tiles in the shower, smelled dank and had only one hand towel and one bath towel...for 2 adults!!! Lots of walking up very steep hills. Must ask for everything the maid takes out of your room to be replaced. Many problems with rooms. Went non smoking 3moths ago, butdidn't inform us smokers who requested a smoking rooms. Very few king beds! Food will fill your.stomach but won't make you happy.

While I have never been at an all inclusive resort before I do believe that my expectations were not too high. Having towels in your room should be standard. Overall, I enjoyed the stay but the Wi-Fi never really worked, the phone lines were bad and I could never call the front desk. The Hotel is a little bit dated, but very nice and away from almost every thing. Very long beach, the hotel was on a steep hill, which was a bit strenuous to walk but what a great view from the room. Food was good and I could eat as much as I wanted to, yes snacks too.

Over all considering the price, it was a great stay. We saved so much on the room, that we lots of money for great tours. For American's it is like an older Motel 6, the Wi-Fi or internet was $25 for the stay, but it was very poor reception. The Telephone never worked in the room, and they said it was bad lines to the building and couldn't be fixed. […] The safe didn't work, but nothing was taken...The staff were very helpful and courtious, they went out of there way to make sure everyone had fun. The food was great, meaning very local, they did try to have some American food but that didn't turn out very well. I recommend sticking with the local food they provide.Over-all, e would stay again. The hotel is on a beautiful beach. The black sand is very pretty. Water is not blue but very beautiful. The hotel in general was ok. The food was very repetitive but pretty good. My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. We even had an issue with the safe and staff was there in 5 minutes to help. The staff was friendly and helpful and food at the buffet good. It changed nightly so we never grew bored with it. Room had flat screen tv with good cable and some american channels. Ac worked […] with no leaks and we always had plenty of hot water. We had no issues getting around the properties hills and steps but if you are older or out of shape, you may. There is a regular shuttle but it cannot take you the 3 flights to pool. Our only issue was making reservations for the ala carte. The sign gives an ext. to call, which we did but come time to go, they stated they didn't have it. The employee explained that it happens quite often and that you really need to visit info desk and get ticket for reservation, not call. They were more than willing to accommodate us though. The weekend was a good bit busier than during week but staff stayed on top of it and we never had to wait more than a few minutes for buffet or drinks. The nightly entertainment was just that....entertaining. A little corny but fun and they did something for all ages. Loved the beach party and trivia night. The resort is a bit secluded so I would rent a car and travel to nearby towns during the busy weekend. Mehr

Only stayed there for 3 nights but it is definitely the worst all-inclusive we have ever stayed at. We travel 2-3 times every year so we are not strangers to resort. Fridge was broken so no water or other beverages at all. No toilet paper. Air conditioner didn't work properly so very difficult to sleep due to heat. i think they could improve the service, when we got there, they did not have enough towels for the three of us. i called and it took them about 2 hours to bring extra towels, the coffee maker was disgusting so we could not make coffee. but overall we had a good time.

Allegro Papagayo is a less than average all-inclusive resort. It is a small resort, the guests mostly consisted of older American or Canadian couples and families, the food is less than mediocre (however many Americans seemed to love the snack bar that offered pizza, chicken wings, hotdogs daily), the drinks are all pure sugar (almost no liquor, you […] will never get drunk!), the beer is flat, and the bar is only open from 10am-11pm. It is not worth your money- if you want to indulge in an all-inclusive in Costa Rica, DO NOT PICK THIS ONE! Spend a little more on a nicer one because this resort is more like a dingy hotel. Service was okay-- most of the servers spoke English fairly however one waiter told me the wrong time in the morning and thus I was late to my excursion and I was unable to go! Also upon my departure, I called the front desk 3 hours ahead and asked for a taxi to the airport. Roberto (at the front desk) was very cordial about it however the taxi was an hour late and we almost didn't make it on the plane (the Liberia airport is very strict on immigration, you must get there at least 1.5hrs before your flight) and the airport is about 30 minutes by car. THE GOOD: Great views, nice big pool, good entertainment at nigh, and activities during the day, incomparable wether conditions, lots of extra activities around, volcanos, rivers, beaches, jungle, etc. The BAD: This Hotel seems like it had better times, but today the beach area its too wild for a pleasant stay., I mean there were lots of bushes, dry […] logs, dry branches all over the place, so it seems like this area its completely attended. Besides that, my worst complain goes to the Beach and pool chairs, more the a 3rd part of then are destroyed, falling apart, holes every were and the syntetic fabrics where completely wear out. The hotel was full, so we had to run on a contest to get one decent and available pool chair. I am from Costa RIca, and I felt embarrassed, watching Europe, Canada and USA tourist looking for a "not so wear out" pool chair. Food was average. So much guests for so few staff. Rooms are not quite enough, we bear 2 nights with a crying baby next door, it sounded like if was sleeping with us. Conclusion: PAPAGAYO PENINSULA its one of the best and luxurious locations in Costa RIca, and there is plenty of hotels around, for every budget, so read and decide what is more important for you on a Hotel stay. This hotel is very typical of Central America, its not the Ritz but we don't choose our hotel based on the amenities. When we travel we don't intend to sit around the hotel, we travel so we can see the sights! Basically we're only sleeping there and it was definitely sleep-worthy. Since this was all-inclusive, we have to mention the food. We were expecting […] to get to try some authentic Costa Rican food, however, they didn't serve much local flavor at all. There was a lot of Italian pasta and sauces every day and a variety of rice, beans, chicken, pizza, breads and salad. If you like plain old American food, you will be happy. The layout of the resort is on the side of a STEEP hill that leads down to the water. You have to be in good shape to trek down the hill to go to the beach, pool, restaurants and all the activities. The lobby is at the top and getting up there is quite a journey by foot. Thankfully they do offer shuttle vans running up and down the property all day and into the night. It is located way out on a peninsula which is quite a ways from the party spots and shopping but is nice since there are relatively few beach vendors. Monkeys can be seen on the beach regularly and iguanas are running around in large numbers as well. All in all it was a good stay except for the walking up and down the steep incline from our room to the restaurant and bar. We definitely wouldn't stay there again because of the inconvenience and strenuousness of the walk. Mehr

Place needed a lot of maintenance, especially in the specialty restaurants. Food was good in the Italian restaurant, so-so in the Mexican and so-so at the buffet. Location was way off the beaten path and there was no way to easily leave the hotel unless one rents a car and the drivers in Costa Rica appear […] to ambivalent as to rules of the road! The scenery was very pretty and the grounds were well kept. The steepness of the setting should be emphasized to future patrons who would be advised to bring sturdy shoes for hiking- think twice if you have problem knees, ankles, etc. Staff was very pleasant and the lobby bar was the best spot. OMG, I do travel a lot and that was one of the best hotel we went to my family and I. The food was excellent and the internal shuttle really helpful...Amazing staff, really great cook and the kids loved the Kids Club...We had so much fun, will probably return to that wonderful place!

the resort is a good location for people that love the country.you are away from every thing exept the rain forest and the bay. the white face monkeys would come down to the trees by the beach at around 0730 and you could feed them by hand.

Our room keys rarely worked. Usually once a day had to walk about 15 minutes to lobby to get key fixed. The other times per day they didn't work we waited at least 1/2 hour for someone to come to re-key the door. our air conditioner barely worked, requested maintainence but no one ever came. By day three it was dripping a steady stream into room but […] we luckily had two trash cans so one was dedicated to catching the water. People need to know the location of the buildings are on a slope , they have shutles to take you back and forth from pool / dining area to buildings where bedrooms are but if you have problems walking , or have heart problems it may not be the best resort for you . The resort was not as advertised. I am not picky but the food really sucked. The "White Sand Beach" is bogus; once you take the boat ride your are stuck there from 8:30AM to 2PM. Don't let the negative reviews scare you off, we are so glad we gave this hotel a try. WE WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK and are planning a trip with our extended family to go back soon. The fried calamari in the a la carte Italian restaurant was the best we ever had!! Both a la carte meals were AWESOME (even for my picky 11 and 6 year old daughters) My girls had a great time in the black sand beach!! (but I would use your old bathing suits for this beach) Yes there is only one beer selection, but for my well rounded beer drinking husband he did not complain, he enjoyed it very much. We had no problem with the shuttles that took you up to the lobby, no it is not for the elderly to walk. This was not a busy,hopping hotel, but we enjoyed that, did provide enough activities to keep us entertained. We recommend renting a car, we did for 2 days, next time we will rent for the week & not pay for hotel transfers. Must do's on our list: Miravalles, Los Hornillas waterfalls, mud bath, hot springs and active crater. We went to Thermo Mania for an amazing lunch. Drive down south to all the different beaches, Coco, Chonchal, and Tamarindo. We gave it a chance and are so glad we did, we would've missed our most amazing vacation ever. Building 10 was the best! El hotel es bonito sin embargo no es para que ninos pequenos y minusvalidos puedan visitarlo. No existe forma de llegar a los restaurantes si nos es por una calle mala y horrible acceso, inclusive nosotros con una carretilla nos dieron habitacion de 3 piso.
