Crowne Plaza Hotel Reading - Wyomissing

Very nice hotel, access into and out of a little tricky but convenient to shopping and eating establishments within walking distance.

The Manager spoke English. Not another staff I met did. Apparently that communication breakdown affected clean up because at 4 P.M. my room still wasn't ready. My breakfast got compted for it, with only the dissapointed look on my face but I had trouble ordering the next morning since the only other language I know is some German from my Army days. […] If you stay here brush up on your Spanish. I was staying overnight because I was seeing a concert in Reading and the hotel was located in a very convenient spot. Close to the Sovereign Center (where I was going) and easy to get to. More info...(The Good) - The hotel itself was very nice, offered a pool and small but decent looking fitness area. I can't comment anymore on either because I didn't […] use them, but they both looked clean and presentable from what I saw. I don't know if the buffet was worth the cost, (it was a bit pricey), but the selection was good enough and the food and coffee tasty. And the last but best part was the bar/lounge. It was open until 1 am on a Wednesday, and the bartenders were great, very accomodating and friendly. They had a dance floor, played a variety of music (live DJ) and there were plenty of people (including myself!) dancing. The rooms themselves were clean (with the exception of a dead bug in the bathtub) and the beds were clean and comfortable. The Not-So-Great - I booked my hotel through this site and my reservation included the breakfast buffet for two people. Upon apprival, the front desk supervisor said I should not receive the breakfast vouchers because I had booked through a "third party reservation". I explained that I paid for the breakfast and she was very pleasant about giving me one voucher. But I had a guest and needed two vouchers, and the Office Manager was refusing to give me another voucher. If I had another person with me AND paid for two vouchers, why would I only receive one voucher?? I insisted on getting my second voucher and he begrudgingly gave it to me. I wasn't happy about that. I also wasn't crazy about housekeeping waking me hours before check out two times. The second time I asked them not to come back for a little while though and they didn't. Lastly, I was given an incorrect statement upon checkout and had to then call hotels.com to straighten it out. It was an inconvenience I didn't want to have to deal with on my first day home. Everything was fine except there were 3 people in our room. So we needed 3 washclothes, towels, mugs & glasses. Each evening when we returned from our day I had to call service & request 1 of any or all of the above. I left a note requesting our needs and it was ignored & phone calls didn't correct the problem, they just brought up what was missing […] and the next day it was the same thing. I have very much enjoyed staying at the Crowne Plaza when I come into town to visit one of our offices. I called on Wednesday before my arrival and was told I could only stay 1 night - I had asked for 2 nights. I then found out upon my checkout on 2/11/11 that the activity they were planning on hosting was cancelled the day before. I found that very […] distrubing and felt that I should have been contacted as a courtesy as I had aksed them to let me know if there were changes in room availability. In addition, when asking for a wake up call 2 out of 3 time you do not get one. Mehr

Very Happy with hotel. Staff was very nice. Would bring my own pillow next time. Close to LOTS of shopping and restaurants!

Clean, comfortable, friendly staff. Good fitness center, restaurant lunch just okay. Quality for the price makes this a good place to stay.

The hotel, where I've stayed before, is in a nice location close to the mall and restaurants. Its big draw now, especially on Thursday nights, is a hip jazz club that brings in some really good local and regional talent. For a relatively modest cover, you get 2 hours of NY style jazz played at high levels of talent. I don't know how the noise level […] is for rooms in proximity, so that could be a problem, but even if you just like jazz alittle, the music scene is a welcome distraction on a normally tiring work schedule. We have to stay frequently in Wyomissing and often the hotels are sold out. So book early. The Crowne Plaza was a joy, everything was great. The hotel buffet breakfast was particularly good. Really awesome, piles of ripe fresh fruit and a big selection. I am kicking myself because I did not get the name of the chef who was making the omelettes at 8:30 […] AM on Sun. 10/10. What a great guy he was working so hard and so fast and cracking jokes and making everything happen so skillfully. Every now and then you run into someone who is just a genius at his job. And this guy was one of those - thanks for making my day. Mehr

Nice place to stay, in decent shape, probably needs a re-do in 3 or 4 years. There should be little refrigerators in the rooms, that is standard in almost any decent hotel.

This is a great place to stay near all the shopping outlets and IHOP is down the block. My only regret is not telling the hotel staff that the corridor between the indoor pool and rooms was freezing cold with too much A/C.

They have remodeled the hotel I had stayed in the hotel when it was the Shearton and it was pretty run down at that time, when I stayed this time it was a vast improvement. The room was huge and comfortable, the only thing that I wish they would have had was a small frig in the room. Otherwise great room.

Our room was very nice. I believe it had just been remodeled. A large flat screen TV. Pool was very nice. I think the dining facilities could be improved. Overall it was more then we expected. I will stay there again.

The night from... You know. We came for our 1 year anniversary and had paid for a King bed. We drove 5 hrs to get there, the boy at the front says "here's the key to your room with a king size bed." So we go on a search for this room and realized room 300 is in a basement that smelt.. like something dead mixed with pizza. We walk in our room.. We have […] a DOUBLE bed and an itty bitty tv (the convienently left fabric smelly spray I guess to help from the stench. I call the front and the boy who set us up in the room answered and I said this definitly isn't a king bed it's a double. He appologized and said let me see what I can do for you guys and I'll call you back. 30 minutes later, no call. I called the front desk and asked the progress. I talk to some women, rather nasty, who said that guy went home for the evening and she didn't know anything about this. WONDERFUL. I explained to her, she said sorry nothing I can do(rudely), call back tomorrow and talk to Shawn after 9 and disconnected. I called Shawn promptly at 9 and he was not very helpful, he said I can see about a king size bed tonight but we probably won't have one. I told him we wouldn't be staying. He said how about breakfast (it was after 9, we had already ate). Point blank: Rude service, dirty room, do not give these people your business. Mehr

First impresion of the hotel was Ohh my God I can't beleived I pay this much for this nice hotel! Really nice receiving area and front desk. I was all excited to see my room, but after going up the stairs I started seen the changes, Broken lights in the hallway, carpet stained and ugly wall paper. I opened the room and was very dissapointed. There was […] a normal size TV, no microwave, no fridge, no continental breakfast, if you want breakfast you have to pay $12.00 per person. The beds were nicely made but after going to the bathroom I wanted to take off right away. The bathtub was not clean, the toilet was kind of old and the walls on the bathroom looked like they had mildew. Only stayed one night! I stayed in a lot of hotels before, this one was very poorly maintained in the rooms. The pool was nice, but the hotel needs a lot of improvement in the rooms. I will never stay here again! Mehr

We were very pleased with everything about the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Great staff. Room cost substantially less than it did when it was under the Sheraton banner. Only thing that needs improvement: There should be four bath towels, not two, in a king-size room.

My initial hopes of the hotel being fair were dashed rather quickly once I had to try and find my room. The lobby I would consider being on the first floor, since I walked into it thru the front door. Well I got my room which I was told is a garden room. Which to my surprise was below the first floor. And I had to walk to the end of the hotel to a stairwell […] as there is no elevator to the basement. Upon going into the garden room as they call it, I found out why they call it that. It was the spiders and bugs in the room. Upon pulling down the bed spread my wife found hairs on the sheets, not just one, but different colors. We then pulled down the other bed only to find a bug crawling around. Stay away from this place Mehr
