"Cute place, great area"
Satff was extremely friendly, room was small but had everything needed for an overnight stay (including fridge and microwave), bed was comfy, the whole place was just lovely - quirky individual decor, slightly faded grandeur; a nice change from the average chain hotels I normally stay in. Oak Park is beautiful, lots of gorgeous architecture and it took […] 20mins to get into downtown Chicago from the station 2 blocks away. Would definitely stay again. Mehr
"Hotel room a disappointment, restaurant pleasant."
The room was much tinier than the pictures and web site implied - cozy for ONE (though allegedly two could stay there. And while I rather liked that you could actually open the window, I did not like that the room was extremely hot. I turned on the cooling system, and left it running on high for several hours, to find that the room was still very hot. […] When I called down, I was informed that the cooling system wasn't running . They brought up a fan - which was VERY loud, and mostly ineffectual. -- I did not sleep well at all -- between the noise and the heat. When I checked out - they didn't even ASK whether my room was okay, or comfortable or whether my stay was fine ... there was no attempt to be pleasant. That said, the building is quaint. The historical old elevator is fun, and the breakfast was delicious and not outrageously priced. I'd recommend the restaurant. Mehr
"Write Inn"
Cute, Charming, in a gorgeous neighborhood, great for walking, great shops, coffee, and close to Chicago,
"Campy Oak Park"
Expect it to be campy, old Oak Park charming. Staff was friendly and helpful and Hemingway Bistro great for breakfast. You can walk easily to downtown Oak Park and Wright home but also have to walk two blocks to the free parking so maybe not a winter preference. Original room had broken thermostat and drippy shower but was quickly accommodated with […] another room. Great rate for location and there isn't alot of choice in OP. As a former resident of OP, I expected a small, New York type of hotel experience but those looking for a Marriott type of room may be disappointed. Mehr
"great choice!"
my husband and i stayed here overnight since we were attending a party in berwyn. i love oak park, and this hotel is located conveniently close to everything, w/out all the hustle and bustle. the ONLY complaint i have was the heat! the room is equipped w/ a thermostat, and although we turned it down to 60 it was still a blistering 80 degrees in the […] room! i did crack the window when we went to sleep and it did make a difference. other than that, everything was perfect and clean. we had breakfast the next morning in the hemingway bistro and that was great too - fresh food and the coffee is FRESH and tastes good too! "write inn hotel oak park"

"Write Inn -- quirky (positive and negative)"
Having only a couple of options in Oak Park, and since other places were sold out, we reserved a room at the Write Inn. It's a quaint downtown building with lovely architecture and great location. We spent most of our time in the area with friends, and left early in the morning, and felt like we had too much room (and paid too much money) for the room […] and time spent there. Had a very challenging time figuring out how to operate the rather old heating system, and as such the room was almost unbearably hot. Very noisy hot water radiator heat made for a less-than-ideal night's sleep. Furnishings, carpet, drapes, appliances were all rather dated and could benefit from a major sprucing-up. Front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. Mehr
"Write Inn - convenient but cramped, uncomfortable"
The front desk people were very pleasant and quite helpful, always there. Maid service was adequate. The room itself is one of the tiniest I've ever seen, to the point the bed can be entered from one side only and the sheets are constantly pulling out of place. The window opens (handy when its high 70's but the A./C is off and running the HVAC turns […] on the heat, too) but has no screen, so bugs flew in. Roast or swat bugs - what a choice. Small, scuffed up, stuffy, but basically clean and convenient. Next time I'll spend a few bills more per night and rest easier. Mehr

"Close to Frank LLoyd Wright's home and office."
This hotel was close to our destination, the Frank Lloyd Write home. The hotel was dated and the staff was cordial. The restaurant was not available for breakfast but we found a great breakfast place three blocks down the street. We enjoyed the neighborhood and the choice of restaurants and shops. Parking was several blocks away in a parking garage, […] it was free for hotel guests. We would stay again. Mehr
"The Write Inn Hotel in Oak Park, Illinois"
We had booked a King Suite through Hotels.com. When we checked into our strange old room we noticed it was a double bed. It also had an odor. We called the front desk and she told us that that was all they had and that we would have to take it up with Hotels.com. They were very rude and unprofessional. We left this hotel and Hotels.com sent us to a beautiful […] hotel in the city! Mehr
"HISTORIC BUILDING"
It is a pleasant hotel, staff very helpful Spanish, is a place to recommend. If traveling with car parking is but two blocks have the green line train to go to all places of Chicago, the center 20 minutes away. Perhaps what I really liked the room size, a bit small, but it's just sleeping, and that's what you pay for.
"Good Location in Chicago suburb"
The Write Inn is located in lovely Oak Park near Frank Lloyd Wright and Ernest Hemingway sites. It is convenient to the Green Line into Chicago. It appeals to those who like an older hotel with character. The Pullman room we had this time was too small to really be confortable. We have stayed here several times before and enjoyed the larger rooms. Its […] worth spending more for a class of room here that is bigger than the Pullman room. Mehr

"Suprisingly Nice"
Even though the hotel is old it was nice. Room was clean and the historical aspects of the hotel was a nice change when complared to the modern hotels we stay at. If you stay at this hotel you must try the old school elevator.
"Wrong Inn"
This Name should be changed to Wrong Inn.
"Old building."
Very dated and old room. Room feels dusty and vents for the ac was dirty.
"Loved it"
This hotel is so wonderful and I will defiantly be staying there again. I loved that it wasn't o e of the big chain hotels and that it was situated in a beautiful safe part of town. IF YOU TAKE THE L TO GET THERE: take the green line to oak park. It passes through some rough looking stops but don't worry oak park is a wonderful and safe neighborhood. […] Also, when you get off the L the hotel is on the north side of the street so turn right and go under the bridge, my friend and I went five blocks in the wrong direction in the pouring rain! Mehr
"Write Inn - Nice Neighborhood"
Great Neighborhood, but shabby room. Hemmingway's (the restaurant inside the hotel) was amazing!
"Poor Customer Service"
The hotel management is extremely unprofessional and rude. I checked into the hotel at 3 a.m. early Sunday and requested clarity regarding my check out date and time. The clerked informed me that I could check out on Monday morning at 11 a.m. I left the hotel at approximately noon on Sunday and again a different clerked informed me that I could check […] out on Monday morning at 11 a.m. I returned Sunday night at 11 p.m. to my room using the room key and found my items were removed from the room. I called the front desk and the manager, over the phone, rudely and aggressive told me that he had checked me out and if I stayed the night i would be charged. I informed him of what his staff told me, but he totally disregarded my situation, and offered not resolution in the matter. I expressed my frustation to him and left and will NEVER go back this hotel. Mehr
"The Write Inn, Oak Park: quaint and clean"
Though the "pullman" room was tiny (not scaled to fit contemporary furniture), it was adequate and clean. I like historical properties, and this hotel has been well-refurbished to keep its historical character (it's registered, I think as an historic property). The attached (though not co-owned) restaurant/bistro is comfortable and not too expensive, […] and serves good coffee. The family-owned air of the hotel staff added a level of hominess. Though Oak Park is 30+ minutes from the Loop and downtown attractions, the hotel is in easy walking distance of the local Green Line station. The worst thing about our stay was that the double-size platform bed was dreadfully hard to keep made (the sheets weren't fitted, so everything came untucked every night). Mehr

"Location, Location, Location"
The hotel is a bit run down although the rooms were clean. Everything is a bit worn but the beds were reasonably comfortable and the amenities made staying for more then one day easy - refrigerator and microwave. The area is beautiful and the hotel location is easy walking distance to the important sights

"Write Inn - Oak Park, IL"
Staff was less than welcoming but gave good recommendations. Overall stay was pleasant and would recommend to others
"NEVER stay here"
This hotel had no concept of hospitality or customer service; it was 90 degrees and the a/c in our room was broken and it was the night of our wedding reception. They argued with us that it couldn't be the a/c it must be the fan, but either way there was no one to look at it for us, no other room to move us to, and they refused to call the manager because […] he was "mad about too many other complaints." They assured us at checkout the manager would get back to us about compensation and we have now spent 3 weeks having our phone calls avoided and emails unanswered. We have contacted the Better Business Bureau, hotels.com, and the Chamber of Commerce and still there is no response from the hotel. Our next call is to our lawyer. Mehr
GREAT Visit !!
"Write Inn Hotel - quaint and practical"
The hotel is in a great location - near a part of town with lots to see and do, while far enough from Chicago center to be a much better bargain... The only other option(s) in this value range are near the airport and we definitely didn't want that. We were in town to attend a commencement at Northwestern - the hotels in Evanston were outrageously priced […] for this event... We were very pleased overall with the Write Inn and would certainly stay here again the next time we come to Chicago or Evanston. Mehr
"A wonderful experience."
Not fancy, but very nice and in a fabulous location. The lobby and bar are charming. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and very helpful. It's located around the corner from Frank Lloyd Wright's home and within easy walking distance of many private homes he designed. The Hemingway museum is across the street. I would love to […] return. Mehr
"Write Hotel- parking is 3 blocks away"
Be prepared to walk as parking is in a garage 3 blocks away. My room must have been some sort of "economy", 2 people wouldn't have been able to fit in the room. I put the "do not disturb" sign out before I left, and came back to find someone had been in my room to straighten up, and took the disturb sign with them. The phone didn't work for the first […] day I was there, and the light burnt out in the shower and took a day to get fixed. Mehr
"Close to the El and nice shops."
This is a decent hotel. It is old and our room was tiny but it was well maintained and the staff was friendly. The surrounding neighborhood is very nice and safe. There is a good amount of shopping within walking distance. It is only about a 20 min train ride to downtown Chicago.

"Great Little Hotel"
My wife is a huge Frank Lloyd Write fan and this hotel is walking distance from his house. The economy rooms are great if you don't plan on spending a lot of time there. We enjoyed it because it was small, simple. and had a great location. We plan to come back here and bring friends. There are great restaurants right down the road. They have a parking […] garage that the front desk will validate is about 3 blocks away. It is not a bad walk. We were also able to find parking on the street a couple of times for free. There is a restaurant in the lobby area as well. We did not eat here, but heard great things about this. This hotel was exactly what we needed. A quiet comfortable resting place in the perfect location near downtown but away from the noise. We felt like we were a part of Chicago. Mehr
"Awesome Helpful Staff"
I was taking my sister to Chicago to celebrate her 21st birthday. When I map quested this hotel it said it was only 4 miles from Rush & Division (Downtown). It ended up being soooo far from the city it was hard to get a taxi to take us there from Union Station. I was disappointed in myself and felt that I had ruined her b-day! The staff was VERY helpful […] in getting us to downtown without spending much money. We didn't arrive back to the hotel until the next day around 11am which was supposed to be the time that we were to check out but the front desk guy let us sleep a few hours and take showers real quick! He was really nice and helpful! GREAT visit! Thank you! Mehr
"write inn oak park"
I know the town so knew exactly where it is. The blurb on the site does not state that the parking is a few blocks away. So although free, is hardly adjacent or nearby. The downstairs lobby and restaurant are charming, but the room itself is small and a bit shabby and the bed was disappointing. Although advertised as a queen, it was so tiny that I'm […] sure it was a double which is small for two adults to share. Mehr
"Hot Hotel, needs updating"
Stayed 2 nights. The location is great. However the hotel rooms need updating. No air conditioning and no screens on the windows. It was hot in the room and I was nervous about opening the windows without screens and having birds or bats fly in during the night. I called down to the lobby one morning for 45 minutes and no response from the front desk […] person. I will not stay in the hotel again until it is updated and has air condiditoning. This is too bad as it is a great location. Mehr
Small, I expected. The room was clean, as expected, if a little stuffy. (And stuffy it would remain, since the bathroom fan did not work. Interestingly, close inspection of the switchplate revealed the words "PULL FOR HELP," indicating it had been reclaimed from a hospital bathroom. Which is cool, but does not seem to keep the price down.) The ancient […] casement window with chickenwire-embedded glass opened easily, but closing it demanded a sustained, two-handed shove downwards by this 160-lb man--and drew a harrowing screech from its metal frame. The hinges on the heavy bathroom door likewise croaked loudly, begging for a shot glass of oil. The electric outlets, save one, were fully occupied, and one was dead, so plugging in the iron, say, or a laptop, meant unplugging the clock, the TV, or the lamp. Historic ambiance probably can be found in the premium rooms, but here was mainly funk. Altogether, it was clean and quiet, but the chain hotels within 10 minutes (I've stayed in several) of the Write Inn deliver more amenities for the money, including parking that's not 2+ blocks away. I did not eat in the Hemmingway Bistro downstairs this trip, but I have in the past, without staying in the Inn, and the fare in retrospect now seems disproportionally good. Mehr
No real driveway, people have to park on the street and later pay tickets. Neither staff nor management cares about it. Gloomy corridor to the elevator and small rooms.
"The hotel is worn out"
The room was small. There was no desk to work on. No chair. The air condition was very noisy, and the minimum temperature was too hot, to the level that I had to get up at the middle of the night to turn it off. Everything is old and rather worn out.

"great location"
If you ever need a place to stay in Chicago, but cannot afford a hotel downtown, this is the place to stay. While the free parking was two blocks away, it was nice to not have to worry about the car all weekend. The best part was the hotel was centrally located in town near restaurants, museums, and the green line which takes you directly into downtown […] Chicago. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Mehr
"Nice Pics...but that's about all!"
Was disturbed to find they cut the A/C off in the fall. However, last week it was in the 80's in Chicago. Checked-in and the room was piping hot! I had to crack my front door and open a window for ventilation. The elevator should be marked as a historical site. If you have lots of bags, take the stairs! You'll get to your room quicker. The hotel overall […] was a nice flash back to the olden days but I would not recommend it for a modern traveler. How this place got 4 stars...I will never know! Mehr

"Write Inn, Oak Park, IL"
Safe did not work...no stopper in bathroom sink...thermostat did not work...told desk clerk about all problems immediately....NO RESPONSE
"It was just ok."
Room just OK. Small, dark, and very cold (even though the thermostat was set to the low 70s)
"Writeinn - older and very convenient"
Writeinn is a charming turn-of the century (1900, that is) hotel, with an attached but separate gourmet seafood restaurant attached. It is within easy walking distance of the up-scale suburban downtown of Oak Glen.
"All about Location"
i would only stay here again if i had to be directly in oak park. for the price, the cleanliness of the room, and the customer service, i would say it is NOT a good deal.
