Riu Palace Tropical Bay All Inclusive - Negril

I stayed here in April for my first Jamaican trip and was completely satisfied. This hotel in my opinion is the gem of negril. I walked 7 mile beach and bloody bay and found that the Riu Palace has the best beach in negril. The food and staff were also amazing. Already planning a return trip

The hotel was very good. The food was very good. Pools were small and by the end of the day pools were dirty from all the people in it oily from tanning oils. But we stayed in the ocean. Great beach and water was very clean. You do have a lot of venders walking buy trying to sell you thing, that was OK. They wouldn’t bother you much, just look at you […] for a moment then carry on. Witch was fine. We would talk to some of them. But overall would go back. The entertainment was really good. I got involved a lot of the games and had a great time. Thanks to Neil, Maurice and Oshane these guys were great!!! And all the other staff. They work real hard to keep you happy. They say "No Problem in Jamaica, only situation". One other thing don't jump off the cliff at Rick’s unless you know how to jump off it hurts. Take this advice!!! It a long way home!! Mehr

The hotel was great. The food was good and the staff were wonderful. The beach in front of the Riu ropical Bay is one of the best in Jamaica. The shows were good and the entertainment staff superb. We especially enjoyed the Rimshot Band and their singer Shandy Man. They are true Jamaican talents.

The beds were not confortable and the bedding was poor quality. Breakfast and lunch were good but we were dissappointed in the dinners. We tried all reataurants and found the Italian to be the best but the others were not very good at all. Everything else was very nice. Service was great. Staff was very friendly.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this hotel and would recommend it to others. The staff were very friendly and enjoyed the variety of food available. Very quick check in. Overall appearance of the lobby and grounds is pleasant. I found the room comfortable and a $5 daily tip for the maid went favorably to it being spotless. Also a couple bucks in the fridge got plenty of Red Stripe and H2O. I noticed most people didn't tip but we sure did and it does make a difference on service. The overall condition and maintainance of the hotel is great. The staff are very helpful and plentiful. The only down fall are the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from setting down a coffee cup to moving a chair in the room above and both sides and the maids pushing carts on cobblestone right outside the downstairs rooms.

The beach and water are awesome, best we have been to and we traveled quite a bit. The rooms need TL.C. Ours had crack in toilet and cracks in tub. AC worked great, room was clean. Property is older, the bathroom is not a suite, nicely tiled but small, no walk in showers here or private toilet rooms. The staff were great, Sheena made us feel welcome upon our arrival, Marsha at pool bar, Jason in the entertainment dept, waiters Alva, Christine and Genvisha were personable and hands on and hugged us upon our leaving, The staff work very hard and long hours, be generous if you are getting great service. Overall, we would return to Negril and the Riu Palace in a heartbeat but they just need to step up the room maintenance, the grounds are very beautiful and well maintained. Steakhouse is very good for an all inclusive, actual small filet and small lobster tail for surf and turf. Italian was not bad either and we are from NY. Japanese and Seafood were great and buffet has plenty of options for all. They need more fruit in buffet, no pineapple in tropical setting? We can't say enough about beach and water, clean, clear and calm. Local vendors on beach have everything you need if you are so inclined to purchase but are not bothersome if you are not interested. Very helpful staff, particularly at reception. Service very slow in Japanese restaurant -- avoid it. Krystal and Steak House are only restaurants worth bothering with. Otherwise do the buffet. Excellent beach, great for children. We have stayed in this hotel four times, so we must like it.

Very Large hotel but only two very small pools - one that had what they called a 'jacuzzi' - where mothers were swimming with their infants. It was also attached to the 'pool' and therefore contained cold pool water - not the definition of a jacuzzi in my books!One pool was used for children, water aerobics, etc and the second pool (extremely small) […] contained a volleyball net and cement loungers in the pool. Overall, this is definitely a place I would consider staying at again in the future. My wife and I chose this resort for a 4 day all-inclusive to celebrate our 25th anniversary. The resort was clean, and well maintained and the beach was beautiful. The food was excellent. Some of the staff working there did not seem as if they enjoyed their jobs although […] most were very cordial and were helpful when we needed something. We really don't have any major complaints of issues with this resort, but there were some minor things I would like to mention. First, the air conditioner in our room didn't seem to work extremely well. It kept our room fairly comfortable, but there were times when I wished it had been capable of cooling the room by a couple more degrees in order to be comfortable. Secondly, there was never any hot water for showers etc. The water at times would be luke warm at best and at other times, it was cold. The morning we left the resort, the hot water was non-existent, and we took very quick cold showers. The only other minor negative thing we experienced was not really anything to do with the hotel. We took a walk along the beach toward the other RIU resort and were confronted over and over again by people trying to sell us Marajuana. This made us feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. On our last night, there was even a guy standing in the shadow's on the beach right by the pool area trying to sell. The hotel needs to "police" this on their property. Mehr

This was the best experience I have ever had it was awesome from the staff to the food to the Comfort to the beach it was the best trip ever and I will be back. This resort is not too big, so there is not so much walking to get to pool, beach restaurants. Beds are very firm. Two pools side by side - one should be for children/families so children are not in pool with swim up bar. Staff friendly. Great staff, food, drinks, and entertainment. We stayed there for 5 nights before backpacking around the island and experiencing the real Jamaica. Ya mon becomes a word in your vocabulary shortly after arrival.

We were disappointed in the service. We waited an hour for our luggage to be delivered to our room by the bell hop after check-in. After spending long hours travelling, all you want to do is get to your room, shower and rest up. So that was frustrating. I had to call houskeeping 3 days throughout the week for wash cloths and floor mats and waited 30 […] minutes for delivery each time because housekeeping kept forgetting them when she cleaned our room. My husband is Jamaican and I'm a Black American. It was really disppointing when, although not mistreated, we noticed after a few days we were not receiving the same amount of service as other tourists from Canada, Europe and other locations from the staff who are Jamaicans. The alcoholic beverages were watered down and the food was ok. We are thinking this is because it is an all inclusive resort. The best food is served at the jerk station. And the last but not the least complaint is, we made arrangements with the receptionist to have bell hop assist us with our luggage at check out. They were supposed to come at 11am. By 11:25am no one showed up and we had an 11:40am bus to catch. So we had to carry our bags down 6 flights of stairs, since we were on the 3rd floor, and up a long sloped path to the front desk. They did do a great job with beach maintainence. Although you get alot for what you pay for, we will not recommend this resort to many of our friends and family because of their partial customer service. Mehr

Riu was a great vacation, lots of fun activities near by, and the staff was great. I would recommend this resort to anyone. Only down side was that the king bed was actually 2 full beds pushed together and made separately.

Hopefully by our next visit the hotel will have a golf cart service (people mover) because of the long walk from hotel to the eating areas. Walking was difficult for handicap and elders. 2 of the 4 resaurants that require reservations were closed during my stay for the long weekend (Columbus Day). The buffet however, did have tons of different food like duck, filets, lots of desserts, so it really wasn't that big of a deal. The only concern I had was that a couple of the local "vendors" approached me and pestered me (and my special […] lady friend that I took) a little bit while on the RIU's stretch of beach so a little more security keeping them away would have been nice. Other than that, I enjoyed the bars, food, room, and staff. There was a slight snafu in my reservation through expedia but the staff there was able to resolve it rather quickly. I enjoyed being greeted with a delicious rum punch upon check in and having a bar open 24/7 where I could order martinis. There was a taxi service that was convenient for our trip to Rick's and a shopping center and the cab driver gave us our choice of what "mall" to go to. He waited for us while we shopped, let us konw that he had to leave and would be back before we planned to leave, and was early picking us back up at Rick's. We didn't take any long day trips/excursions but there were a lot of options available if we were to have wanted to do so. Ultimately, I could tell that the staff was genuinely interested in making sure my stay went well there. This is the second time I have been to Jamaica this year and I will probably stay there again if I go back as the good far outweighed the bad at the RIU tropical palace. Mehr

The hotel and room was amazing. We decided to upgrade to the suite and I got to say it was well worth it. Our balcony was twice the size as the normal rooms and our room was beach front. The food was superb and the staff was very friendly. I would defiantly stay there again!

I enjoyed staying at this hotel and had a great time. It was a really beautiful and excellently kept property. There is a myriad of things to do where you don't even need to leave the property if you don't want to. I only left once and that was fine with me. This was definitely more of a couples resort to me. I would not come here on an all girls trip. […] But the best thing was that there were no kids. Maybe due to the time that we came, but I saw about 5 kids total my entire time. I would definitely recommend this resort. There is nothing that would steer me away from this place. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the unwelcoming attitude of 95% of the women who worked at the resort excluding the front desk staff and the fact that the room smelled weird. Kind of like the air conditioning water in a cheap motel room. Still it wasn't repugnant and you shouldn't be in your room that long anyways! Mehr

Over all it was good. There were A few exceptions. Our room was ready when we checked in, but we went to get something to eat before they shut down lunch with our friends (around 2:30) and when we went to our room to change into our bathing suits our bags still were not there. When we checked in our bags were the only ones in the lobby. Also the ocean […] view room had too many trees in the way. We could just barely see the ocean. Beach was the best we ever been to. The location of the hotel is great, the beach is terrific, the food is beyond praise. However, the rooms need more improvement, for instance, the blankets in the room are stained and dirty, you cannot watch TV, because of the constant "snowing", some of the bathroom appliances (shampoo in particular) are not supplied, too many people wander around the […] beach, which I thought was supposed to be private, and harrass you with offers of illegal substances, various services, insist on singing for you for a charge, etc. I am talking every 3-5 minutes. other than that, great place! The best thing about this resort is its beach. If I go back to Jamaica I won't stay anywhere else other than Negril area. However next time I'll try a different resort. Overall the resort was small with a tiny pool broken into two sections which weren't even connected. Rooms were outdated and smelled moldy. My review is based on cost/benefit relationship. If you're looking for true luxury, this is not it. This hotel has an amazing beach which is the same as sandals and other more expensive resorts. The pool and swim up bar are also nice. The quality of the food is not what I'm used to but if you factor in the cheap cost of this hotel it's fine. Breakfast […] and lunch are fine especially lunch which was amazing. There are only 4 restraunts and a buffet for diner and the restraunts require reservations. Since the hotel wasn't busy during our vacation, only 2 out of the 4 were operating at any given night which made reserving very difficult. I found diner times to be inconvenient, there are only two slots 6:30pm and 9pm and it was impossible to find reservation for 9pm so we had to either eat at 6:30pm (which meant missing beautiful sunset on the beach) or settling for the buffet (which is open for walk-ins for diner). Anyways, overall I think you still get a lot for your money and if you're ok with the diner situation this can be an amazing vacation. Mehr

We spent most of our time at the beach. It is beautiful white sand and you can walk a long ways and the water will still be around your waist and it is clear and warm. The staff are wonderful. Polite and funny staff in food service, pool area and bartenders. Clean room, decent buffet style food, good night entertainment till 11:30pm or midnight. Internet and phone system do need some upgrade. Other wise it is a good hotel with good security.
