Crowne Plaza St Louis-Clayton - Clayton

What a lovely hotel. I wanted to be within walking distance to the Busch Stadium however, this hotel was not. Surprisingly, there was a metro line within walking distance that delivered me right in front of the stadium. I was thrilled. I would stay there again.

The hotel is located among office buildings, and the neighborhood becomes a ghost town after 5 pm. There is one block of trendy, local restaurants about four blocks from the hotel, but you have to know where to look.

The front desk personnel were great. Very friendly and helpful. The valet guy had me give him $14 cash since I was staying one night and let me park my car out front. This saved me from paying the $19 to the hotel, buy felt kind of seedy. The restaurant was dirty, but the service was great. The breakfast buffet was average at best. The room was comfortable […] but the bathtub didn't drain. Seems like they need some updating. For the money, I would not stay there again. Mehr

Convenient location and many great restaurants to choose from. Front desk staff pleasant and helpful upon arrival. Rooms a touch small but not bad. Lots of counter space in bathroom! And roomy bath tub.

The hotel is a little dated, but rooms are comfortable with great pillows and comfortable clean beds and bedding. The breakfast staff was not good at all. The "hostess" and the "waite"r didn't look me in the eye and ran around the place without acknowledging us, but finally I got a cook to take my order! The food was good but I saw a number of people […] walk out because of the service even though the breakfast was included with the hotel rate. Close and convenient to WashU. Mehr

The Hotel was fine like all the hotels in the Holiday Inn brand. I did experience difficulties with late check out.. It was my understanding that a Priority Club member received late check outs as a perk for being a member and I had to ask 3 times and continued to receive the answer that I had to ask the Shift Manager the next morning to which I could […] never seem to be on the same schedule with. I did end up getting the late check out but it wasnt without it being a stressfull situation. Aside from that the staff was fine and the accomodations were great. I would reccommend. Mehr

King size bed was jammed in so person on right had 6 inches next to bed to get in. No room for night stand next to bed. I use CPAP and it had to sit partially under bed. Very poor set up. Had plenty of room on other side to move things over.

Comfortable room, helpful staff and good meal down the street at J Bucks. Breakfast was good, and the server gave me a coupon to comp it, even though I dont think it was included with the Hotels.com rate. Free shuttle from the airport which arrived within 10 minutes, even though its a fair distance from the airport. Would definately stay here again. Bathroom […] was a little neglected. Mehr

An older hotel, but everything was fine. One elevator was out of service during both nights of my stay, making it less convenient. Housekeeping had obviously not cleaned behind the refrigerator and other harder to reach places in some time. The staff was great, very helpful.

Our night stay at the crown plaza was an enjoyable one. The hotel could use some updating but the rooms were clean and the bed was very very comfortable. Our room was on the fourth floor and we could hear the buses stopping and starting from the street below. It didn't bother me much but I am an early bird. I could see where this could be a problem […] if you are a light sleeper and were looking to sleep in. The front desk attendants were very nice and professional along with all the other staff as well. The hotel has a great location, within walking distance to many restaurants, cafes, and bars. Don't look for anything extravagant here but crown is a nice and convenient hotel if looking to stay in the clayton area. Mehr

I decided to spend a few extra dollars to stay at what appeared to be a slightly nicer hotel than the standard Courtyard by Marriot or Hampton Inn, but instead got an old hotel that needs mantaince and upgrades. The lobby is nice (as you see in the pictures) and the room looks nice. But the air conditioner had a warning sign that it would freeze over […] if you set it below 72. There was no way to open the window and you couldn't set the air conditioner to vent or fan so we were stuck with a stuffy room with no moving air. The "mini-bar" fridge was completely empty and didn't work. The elevator and hallways appeared shabby and needed work. The funny thing was that the elevator was actually being repainted while we were there (wet paint signs up) and it still looked awful. You are much better off spending less money and staying at one of the newer hotels in the immediate area. Mehr

It would have been great if the bathtub hadn't been so stained up and the ceiling above the stairwell was not leaking :) They have some maintenance issues, but the staff is great and the food they provided at the conference we attended was amazing! They were very accommodating for dietary restrictions.

Hotel staff was courteous and professional. Our check-in experience was great, but our room was average. Upon entering our room, the first word that came to mind was dinky. The room was quite small, but adequately furnished. Shortly after arrival, we spilled a drink on the hardwood floor. After promptly mopping it up with a hand towel and a washcloth, […] we called housekeeping to replenish our supply. Those towels never arrived. The room seemed damp. We called maintenance to check on our air conditioner while we were out to dinner. It seemed better upon return. Finally, we didn't feel as if the room was clean. The once-white curtain blew in the breeze of the air conditioner and had a definite gray filth color to it. The floor we mopped up after our spill yielded dirty towels. The bathroom door knob had some sort of crust on it. Beyond that, the hotel was satisfactory with a lovely lobby. Clayton is a quiet area. Seems the streets roll up at 5:00 every evening. Mehr

While parts of the hotel are older, it was very well-maintained. Our room was nice and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel is convenient to get to the zoo and science center as well as The Magic House. Loved the pool and free kids game room (no quarters needed!) Self-parking is only $6 a day with in/out privileges, just get your vouchers from […] the front desk. Staff was very helpful with directions. Room and pool area well stocked with towels. Nice hotel and would stay there again in the future. Friendly and attentive staff. Room was small but comfortable. Shower pressure was really low but ohter than that it was satisfactory.

The business center was at best described as poor. It had an odor and the computer and printer were outdated and not working well. The gift shop was hardly ever opened regardless of the time of day and poorly stocked with refreshments. The hallways also had an odor but not as horrific as the one in the business center. The room was fine however the […] air flow for the air conditioner/heat made it almost impossible to work at the desk as it blew the air directly on you as you were sitting at the desk. The room condition greatly exceeds my expectation. Shuttle service is very helpful for students like me. Overall it was just an incredibly wonderful experience.

Staff could not have been nicer or more accomodating. Went out of their way to show us how to navigate the hotel as it is large with different hallways and elevators to get to different parts of the hotel. While the rooms are lovely and the linens very nice, the bed was too soft and was pitted toward the center. We were on the fourth floor and could […] hear the music and feel the vibrations from an event in a 7th floor ballroom....on a Sunday night until midnite. Overall, we plan on going back as it is close to our son's university and the overall experience was satisfactory. Mehr

While the staff had a great attitude this is a tired old place. Once you get past the lobby you'll see that there's a lot of deferred maintenance that has to be addressed. AC doesn't work well.

I chose this location for a weekend getaway with the little woman. It was very comfortable and the staff was very accommodating. The beds are very comfortable and fluffy with lots of pillows. I would recommend this hotel to others. Was a bargain for the price.

The hotel has a great location in an upscale area. Paying for parking was a surprise as there was no mention in the website. One of the hotel elevators had a distinctive smell reminiscent of a fraternity house all nighter. Our room appeared clean but had wallpaper rolling away from one of the walls. We weren't certain of the bedding as one of the beds […] had blood in the sheets. Had to have TP brought to the room because there wasn't a sufficient amount in the bathroom. The only negative about the entire experience was that we were stuck in a smoking room. The room was still very clean and they sprayed it with industrial Febreeze to keep the smell down, but we would have preferred just a non-smoking room in the first place. Apparently there are few non-smoking rooms available. I suggest they do away with the smoking […] rooms altogether. Mehr

I felt the hotel was in need up updates. The furnishings were older and the AC was loud. The hallway was dark and the room was a little difficult to locate once checked in. I would recommend this hotel only if some upgrades are made.

I would certainly recommend this hotel.. The staff was very kind and helpful and the cleanliness and atmosphere of our room was perfect.. Our kids had a great time at the pool and loved the free game room.. We will certainly continue our stays at the Plaza's going forward.

On first glance, this hotel appears quite fancy and elegant. If you desire this, you might want to keep searching. We just needed a nice soft place to lay down for the night. The system of two elevators going to different room numbers was quite confusing to us. When we did locate th correct elevator to use, it never came to our floor. We lugged many […] bags and suitcases up two flights of stairs. The room was smaller than we anticipated, and the bathroom was only passable in the cleanliness department. The desk clerks were helpful with heating up a late night snack, but the fact that there was no microwave in the room was a downer. We declined the key to the mini bar, but found it open anyway. We quickly instructed the kids to not use anything there, but it should have not been an option to open it, since we declined. In the end, this hotel is not what it necessarily seems to be. As I stated earlier, it appears to be an elegant, fancy place, but it is quite aged in the hallways and rooms. The rooms are small, especially the bathroom. It is not at all convenient to get around on the various floors and the elevator situation should be taken care of. The free video games was a bonus though. All in all, I would not book a room at this hotel again. There are other places that are less expensive, and closer to our highways and destinations, and more comfortable. Mehr

My girlfriend and I chose this hotel because the pictures on the website made it look very nice and clean. We were wrong. The staff of the hotel were fairly nice when we checked in. They weren't very friendly or talkative though. We got to our room -- which was pretty small. The bathroom was TINY. But at least it was clean. I read several reviews that […] complained about the cleanliness of the rooms, but ours was ok. We were right across the hall from the gym. I thought it would be noisy, but it really wasn't. The thermostat had a sign over it that said not to turn the temperature below 70, so the room was very muggy. My biggest complaint about the room was this: the little fridge in the room where you can unlock and purchase food/drinks from the hotel. Every single drink in that fridge, with the exception of two Pepsis and a RedBull, went out of date in December of 2008! When we reported this to housekeeping, they assured us they would be up to fix it, but we never heard back from them. We even mentioned this again upon checking out, and the staff acted as though it wasn't a huge concern to them. The only other negative thing about the hotel itself is the pool. If you go to this hotel with the intention of having fun, you'll be disappointed. The inside/outside pool is a neat setup, but the water was hot. The jets were shooting out warm water. I didn't see how this could be, since the whole pool was pretty much in the shade. With surrounding buildings blocking the sun, you hardly get a chance to soak any sunlight. Furthermore, the deep end of the pool (6 ft) is on the inside, and the deepest part on the outside is only 4 feet. So if you want to swim outside, prepare to crouch. However, the most important thing I have to say about the pool was that it was DISGUSTING. There were dead sweat bees, feathers, and other bugs floating on top of the water.
