billing dispute gave me a poor opinion of the management They try to pass the place off as a vacation type resort but it just a glorified motel -hotel in a semi marginal neighborhood

I was very pleased with my recent overnight stay at the Lodge on the Desert. I booked a 1 king bedroom that was a nice size with a large bathroom/shower and a comfortable bed. Hotel amenities were first rate. Had dinner at the hotel restaurant which was quite good. Great hotel. Had an upgrade coupon so got a suite. Very nice. Restaurant expensive so hit one of the many local restaurants instead.

The hotel was fine,good location, but we booked a delux room, and received a traditional room. The older style room is quaint the wifi is so-so, the restaurant was decent for breakfast.

Very complex room arrangements walking down many sidewalks to the individual rooms causing confusion in locating room

The hotel is a great boutique hotel that is 15 or 20 minutes from all sights in and out of Tucson. It is about 10 minutes from downtown. The new rooms are spacious, with double sinks, and balconies. the only negative was that we would have liked a close up mirror in the bathroom---there was no place that my wife could get close to a mirror

We had an excellent stay at Lodge on the Desert - our room was clean and spacious and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Historic property newly updated. great rooms. Attentive service. Wonderful restaurant on the grounds ( with special happy hour) and great wine list. We will stay again.

Can't speak highly enough of lodging or area, both are absolutely and stunningly beautiful. Not given to hyperbole but cannot think of anything bad to say about either the accommodation or the area. Service was excellent, staff friendly, polite, helpful (but unobtrusive); location perfect - far enough outside of City Centre to relax but close enough […] to public transport amenities to get Downtown if desired. Restaurant just a touch on the pricey side but this negated by the absolutely excellent quality of the food served, cheaper food outlets in nearby vicinity if required. Mehr

What a relaxing place to stay! My wife and I came down to Tucson for some relaxation from our jobs and to find a little sun. Our stay at the Lodge was very relaxing. Great room! Great restaurant! Courteous staff!

Was traveling as a solo woman for a weekend workshop, and this was perfect for my needs. Stayed 3 nights. Felt very secure, room very clean, was nice not to be in the typical Doubletree. I had a remodeled room on the second floor; bathroom was great, shower was great, bed was soooo comfortable I wanted to take it home with me. Balcony had a partial […] mountain view (off to the side). Restaurant menu is a bit frou-frou for me, but food was good in a pinch. When I checked in they gave me a first floor room, and I asked to move, and they accommodated me very quickly. Oh, and parking was easy. Layout can be confusing; I got lost one time, but after that knew my way around. Never used wi-fi, internet access on lobby computer was pretty useless, but I didn't really need it, so it didn't matter to me. Would stay again. Mehr

What a delight. Stayed in new portion of the hotel with all the spa amenities-jacuzzi, large walk-in shower and large room. All staff were outstanding. Manager is always on duty (lives on premises). Great restaurant with very special happy hour. Very nice pool. Highly recommend this property.

Hotel was a great value, very clean, close to what I was doing, restaurant was good, very happy over all.

This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful gardens. It's older but clean. My room was huge with a sitting area, huge bed, and refrigerator. It was great for having my college son over and watching games. It was convenient for me to go to so many things. The pool was small but nice. I would definitely stay here again.

Only one negative comment. They use cheap one ply toilet paper and tissues in the bathroom.

Couldn't get a newer room, my room was worn out, chipped paint, chipped tub...parking was wide open so do not understand why couldn't get diff room. For price, room was great size but not worth it due to quality

We were a little nervous as we drove to the hotel, because many of the buildings and businesses in the area were a bit run-down, but Lodge on the Desert was very nice. The 3 people we dealt with at the desk were friendly and helpful. We needed to cancel our last night, and were able to get a full refund despite their normal policy, probably because […] they had others wanting to book the room. The pool was 3'-6' deep, so my youngest son was a little nervous, but he did fine. It was kept at 84 degrees, which was cool, but nice in the hot sun. It was a pretty long pool, which was perfect for doing laps. Our room was away from the pool, so I don't know if it would be noisy at night or not. There was a nice variety of plantings around the hotel, so we got to show the kids some pretty neat plants native to AZ (we're from Iowa). The beds and pillows were VERY comfortable! If you want a sunrise/sunset view, ask for a 2nd-floor room. Only drawback with the room was that there was no microwave! Odd, these days. The kids had to do without their microwave popcorn, which they didn't like. Not sure if there was one available anywhere to use. They have a little library off the main lobby that has a computer for free internet use, with a printer, so you can look up addresses, attractions, etc., and print out a list. There's also an old table to play checkers on, that my kids used. There are no elevators, but there are only 2 levels. The room doors are very heavy & strong. Surprisingly nice; we'd stay there again. Mehr

Overall very good price and location. My only minor concern was that the hotel did not provide instructions for AC and heat. The room did not have a book listing amenities and phone numbers. Beds were extremely comfortable. I would stay there again.

Loved the hotel. I only wish I would have had a balcony to enjoy the view. Other rooms had one, but this particular room did not.

We were looking for a quiet romantic evening away from home and the Lodge on the Desert fit the bill. Though we only stayed one night we truly enjoyed it. We had a room with our own jacuzzi tub which was an addition we would recommend. Though a little on the pricey side it is nice to splurge once in awhile. You will not be disappointed.

Good things first: staff was pleasant, manager returned our call, bed was comfortable. We were traveling with a pet and got a small room in the back of the property, in an area slated for renovation into spa and fitness center. Bathtub dripped and hotel did not respond to two notices of same. Fireplace did not work. The hotel was much too expensive […] for the room we were in. Would not return, nor recommend this hotel group to others. Mehr

I've stayed here before and the charm of the old adobe style (and location to my business meetings) led me to stay again. Because of the historic nature and thick walls of the property, the internet is very spotty in the rooms (both visits). This visit was more irritating by the LOUD (and inefficient) heating/cooling unit in the room. It was loud to […] the point of interfering with anything positive I could say about the hotel. Wonderful place. I wish they would use vinegar on their shower heads to open up all of the slots for water to come out. Minor thing but still, how much time would it take to make sure the shower heads all worked to full capacity.

Our first hotel was terrible, but we were able to redeem our vacation with a night at the Lodge. A wonderful place that we can't wait to return to!

The restaurant was excellent, and we had a great meal and not exorbitant prices.

The toilet ran and the restaraunt service was slow. Other than that, it was fabulous! We will be back.

This was a very nice hotel, although it was not near the desert, but in the middle of everything. Not far from the University. It was well care for and beautiful landscaping. The restaurant was excellent and never busy. My biggest problem is there was no microwave nor refrigerator for restaurant leftovers. We are on a certain food regimen but there […] was nowhere to heat it up so we were not able to stay on it, which was very disappointing; we even asked. Going to restaurants was wasteful because we could not keep our leftovers either. Also we booked a particular room based on this site but did not get what we asked for. For those reasons I probably would not stay again but it is a nice hotel if you don't care about that. Mehr

This recently renovated Hotel was perfect for our needs! I am a Tour Director and made reservations for my clients. Their room was beautiful and roomy, king bed and fireplace. At first the hotel put them on the 2nd floor (no elevator), but they were able to quickly change that. If you have any difficulty with stairs, please note that with the Hotel […] immediately. Great location for them, within a mile of my house, close to U of A. and other amenties that we were seeking. We did not get a chance to see the older rooms, so cannot comment. This Hotel had a long history, has wonderful character and flavor. Not cookie cutter. We had a great time going to Happy Hour, and were very content with the excellent selection of "bar food" that was half price between 4PM-6PM! Fun drinks, fun and tasty food; the service was outstanding. There is a lovely outdoor patio, but weather was too chilly for us. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Mehr

We were very happy with the quality and cleanliness of the room and hotel. We'll stay there again when we visit Tucson.

The Lodge on the Desert was lovely...beautiful, simple rooms with wonderful shower and extremely comfortable bed, 24 hour hot tub and heated pool so we could swim and soak whenever we wanted, well-manicured grounds, and a fantastic restaurant on site (I give the mussels 5 stars). I was incredibly comfortable there, very impressed. Initially I was disappointed […] that our room balcony faced a parking lot; if I were going to stay there again, I'd definitely ask for a room facing inward, towards the courtyard and away from the parking lot. That said, it ended up not mattering a whole lot. The pool was right around the corner from our room, I went there when I wanted a view. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and gracious, although I was surprised that when I asked for restaurant recommendations it seemed like the first time they'd been asked...still, they did give me a good spot. All things considered, I think the Lodge was the perfect hotel for our Tucson weekend getaway. Mehr

Very nice- felt secluded eventhough it is in the middle of town. Hotel staff was nice but I always got the "Oh you booked this from a third party" said with much distain when I checked in and out. Breakfast was great! Room was spacious with high cielings and I liked the separate shower and tub as well as the double sinks in the bathroom!

I like hotels with history and charm. Traveled with family, so I got to see 3 rooms. I don't think this place is too keen on kids, though we were traveling with 4. Small hotel, most rooms have fireplaces, some new, some old, super comfy beds, beautiful grounds and a wonderful restaurant. Nothing here is generic and the rooms all had a slight funny smell […] that you did not notice after awhile. I think it is the scent of history.This is not the Hilton. I would definitely return. Wonerful hotel. The pool was gorgeous and heated. The rooms were huge and comfortable. Beds were amazing. The price was very good. I loved our stay here. Area was a little run down, but hotel was safe.
