Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa Universal Studios Area - Orlando

Great place to stay at, with a big group or with family. Excellent staff and customer service... very convenient location. The welcome staff was a bit snooty and quite impatient. Other than that, we had a pleasant stay here.

This resort has been very well maintained, completely remolded since we had stayed previously. Had everything we needed... View, good bedding, kitchenette and a luxurious tub.

The hotel staff was very nice, but this is not really a hotel- but a timeshare and condo. The next room was a family that lived there on a regular basis and was up at all hours of the night. The lobby was not in walking distance- you had to drive and show your room key to security to get there. We tried to call for delivery of the restaurant and did […] not get through. We went to the restaurant and it does not open until 8 which is strange for a hotel- so it really is not. The pool was nice and the best part of this experience- the room was not very clean and older. I would not recommend this place if you are a woman traveling with your children as I did- I would stay at a more traditional hotel in the future. Mehr

No complaints about the service but the room is not updated enough for what they charge. Was disappointed with the design and interior of the room. Never get a room by the pool, lots of families and children playing at the pool unitil late at night.

Our accommodations were perfect- lovely room, clean and comfortable,with a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely CLEAN bathroom; the view from our balcony overlooking the pool was beautiful- had breakfast there every morning. Downside was the hard sell for a timeshare- we signed up for the free breakfast and tour because we thought we'd get better accommodations […] - so it's our own fault - took 90 minutes and fighting off 3 different sales people till we got away -if anyone in your party in easily manipulated or intimidated do not sign up for the timeshare tour - or stay somewhere else. We rented a studio. It was okay, nothing super great. Mostly clean but just a little outdated decor and paint which made it feel shabby. We were in the 1000 building. The hotel grounds were pretty and pools were nice. It was just the room that could've used some updating. But it was a decent price so I suppose that is what we get. Parking was hard to […] find if you got in late. The complex felt secure. Walmart down the street and lots of restaurants within a few minute drive. Overall we were pleased with our stay. Stayed here before but this time was way different. Check in was rediculous. We were passes from person to person to person trying to get more money out of us with pictures, ect. until finally getting somebody to just take us to our room. We get to our room and sit on the bed and it freakin BROKE and slipped forward. My husband fixed it and then later […] go to take a shower and the shower door WOULD NOT open. The next night we got ripped out of our sleep at almost 1am by the security guard saying RUDELY something about the common door being locked so we go check it and it WASNT FREAKIN LOCKED. We still got calls after that and they are sooooo lucky my daughter didn't wake up. Not to mention the 800 golf carts they have riding around EVERYWHERE and the over grown bushes so you cant see around the corner when you turn. Anyways we liked it the first time but the second time was miserable. We will find another hotel for the future! Mehr

The rooms could have been cleaner. Shaving remains in the hot tub! Ewwww! The place was so big you were to far from the service entrance.

The staff was very courteous and the grounds are very well maintained, but I was surprised and disappointed with the amenities fee that was required. There was no mention of this in any of the website information. I feel it should have been optional as we did not utilize any of the amenities and if we did there was additional cost to rent them. The […] shuttle service was grossly misrepresented as well. They do provide shuttle service to various places, but it is under Westgates time frame. It was very constraining. We had to rent a car once we got there (it was cheaper than a taxi) which was another unexpected added expense. Mehr

We just wanted a good place to stay for a night after a long day at Epcot. I expected for the price to find a clean simple room, but this is, in fact, a full service resort (my failure to read more closely before booking). They seem to have a lot of activities and pool areas. We were a little annoyed that at 10p at night we had to be passed to 4 different people beofre being shopn to the room... each had to tell about some activity, or how to find our room in the resort. I found the staff a little unprofessional, but I also understand you do not get the very best late at night, and I am sure they had a long day... the room was dirty, I was not able to get any sleep a lot of noise from the thin walls of next room. its a total dump stay away.;

Three people we encountered were very friendly(hotel employee's) , otherwise unfriendly. Security would pull out in front of you while driving through the complex. Beds were platform beds and we tripped or hit our shins 4 times during our stay due to the fact that they stuck out too far beyond the matress. Would not stay there again. It is a nice c […] omplex. The west gate was great. Very conveniently located. Service was excellent. Room very clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend to anyone. And would live to stay there again.

It's a very nice hotel to stay I

The hotel price was not bad but the rooms need some upgrade. You hear everything that is going on in the hallways and when someone opens and closes the doors. If someone is cooking or doing something in the microwaves you smell it in your room. I woke up one day smelling like a bacon strip. The pools where dirty and the service was slow. The parking […] is HORRIBLE! If you get home late prepare yourself for a midnight walk. Overall I don't know if I will be staying here again. The only real thing I enjoyed was the miniture golf. I lost some of my luggage and the hotel staff was the worst at handling this. Not only did they give innacurate information, they had me waiting for a long time. When I called to speak to their corporate office, I was always given different numbers. Not a place I would recommend to anyone.

If you don't mind being bothered to invest in a timeshare at ridiculous interest rates then this is the place for you. They kept calling them selves a 5 star hotel but really I would rate it lower, closer to that of the ratings online. If you want to be left alone for a nice vacation then look elsewhere. We first got into our room and there was dirt […] on the kitchen floor from the previous tenants. One of the bathroom sinks was clogged and there was an unpleasant odour in the room that didn't go away for the whole week. Mehr

First, when I checked in at the front desk, I was sent to someone else, who then had me talk to someone else, then I had to go to the front of the check in area to "VIP Services" and wait in line simply to get a map so I could figure out where my room was at. At no point during the 4 people I was passed around did anyone tell me where or how to get […] to my room. Since there are at least 10 different buildings at this place, the building number and location would have been nice to know. When I booked this place I didn't realize it was a timeshare, not that I mind. But being passed around to multiple people when I all I wanted to do after my flight was go to my room and relax is just asinine. I realize that one of the people I passed off to was suppose to attempt to sell me a timeshare, which I'm happy she did not do this. I am also glad I checked in when I did, because 30 minutes later they were directing people to a restaurant down the street to park at and then "shuttling" them in on a golf cart from the restaurant's parking lot. My nonsmoking room also smelled like smoke and one of the cheap vertical blinds were missing so anyone could see into my room outside if they wanted. Mehr

i wish that we could have stayed longer

upon check in hotel aminites locations not explained.fitness center opens too late in the morning& closes too early at night.restaurant on location has very slow service.

that this is a timeshare selling opportunity for them..they told me 60 mins i was held hostage for 2 hours...but i got 50 in cash and a card that let me use everything a owner could for free like internet and paddle boats mini golf..the room was amazing

There was a discrepancy in what booked I verses what I saw on the internet . Please confirm your room with the HOTEL / RESORT in which you are staying as soon as you book over the internet / PHONE . Keep in mind theses are TIME SHARES also ... Bed was very uncomfortable MATTRESS / BOXSPRING all in one . Studios have NO closet or luggage rest . The […] room is extremely small ... BIG BACK TV's . THIS IS THE BEST LOCATION I HAVE EVER STAYED AT. THE ONLY INCONVENIENCE IS THE PARKING WHEN YOU ARE COMING IN LATE NIGHT. OTHERWISE, IT IS A GREAT LOCATION TO STAY AT AND I WOULDNT CHOOSE ANYWHERE ELSE WHEN VISITING ORLANDO!

My fqmily and I had a great time. The only problem staying in the studio with 3 kds and myself I found it to be very small. I recommend this resort workers are freindly and nice.

Always considered staying here when traveling to Orlando, but the price was never good enough. This weekend, it happened to be good enough. Unfortunately, it was also the NBA All-Star Weekend (unknown to us until we arrived). Needless to say, the place was ridiculously crowded. However, the staff did a great job checking people in and getting you to […] your room, especially when you consider the amount of people there. Parking, like I read in many previous reviews, is a problem. The building we stayed in only had about half the parking spots compared to the number of rooms available. You had to hope to find a spot in the general parking area and walk a bit. Our room was a bit dated, but it was clean and comfortable. Somehow, the air conditioning system pulled in the weed that the neighbors were smoking. That wasn't pleasant. Good location, especially if you know how to get around Orlando on the back roads. Overall, a decent place. It's a resort, so you'll tend to pay a little more. Yes, they charge a resort fee, but it at least includes internet usage and use of the main facilities. Price wise, I've done better with better quality, but I would stay here again. Yes, they did try to sell me a time-share, but it wasn't mandatory and they were not pushy about it. Horrible across the board. First off, we get there from being all day at Discovery Cove around 5:30pm tired as all can be only to come to a 45 min wait just to check in!! In all seriousness, it looked like a long line at the DMV. After waiting in line for what felt like a century, we get checked in and they have the audacity to try to sell me a time-share. […] But wait there's more, we get our room key which just happened to be on the 5th floor at the far side of the building, we were so tired and I was angry, very angry and just to my surprise we opened the door and a family of 7 greeted us startling and confused looks. At this point I was ready to do something regretful. So we go all the way back to the front desk, I waited another 10 min to be helped and finally they gave us a key and escorted us into a room on the 6th floor all the way down to the furthest room. the room looked like no one has stayed there in moths, it smelt like mold, the A/C was completely shut off, dust everywhere and there were no towels and no soap nor shampoo. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review, I'm incredibly easy to please but this was just bad business. Spend an extra 20 to 40 bucks and stay somewhere else nicer. Mehr

Staff was completely incompantent, ac broke in room called front desk sent someone down to check on it, said he'd be right back yet never returned. Room was small and very outdated. The plus was it was close to everything

The best vacation I've had yet! The resort was beautiful, clean, and everyone I came in contact with was friendly and helpful.

My family and I stayed at the Westgate for two nights and our stay was very pleasant! The resort was so gorgeous! Everything was at our disposal. We didn't have to leave the resort for anything. The staff was amazing and the condos were absolutely, beautiful. This was by far, one of the best places my family and I have ever stayed in. We can't wait […] to go back!!!!! Mehr

Would never stay or recommend this resort. Ice machine broken for all 4 days, toilet overflowed 2x, room keys didnt work on 3 occassions( had to walk back to lobby 4x, 2x in 1 night), took 3 days to get soap and extra towels. Very noisy, off of major interstate. Room was as pictured and comfortable.

Very nice property, restaurant had good food at reasonable resort pricing. Only complaint was that room was listed to have a "queen" pullout sofa which turned out to be a single size for 1, not even 2 kids would fit. But, overall for the price, we had a great stay.

My familly and I, being Florida residents, come to Orlando at least twice a year and have stayed at many of these resort rentals. This is the WORST! Too old. built around 1984 and hasn't been updated. Too crowded. This place is HUGE, but does not have the amenities to support it, (one small market for the entire complex. I have actually stayed here before and was quite happy. That's one of the reasons we chose to stay here again. I cannot complain about the room. The bed was fantastic, the room was clean and well maintained. The parking situation, however, was ridiculous. We stayed for 2 nights. Upon our arrival around 4 pm, after standing in line for about 30 minutes […] just to register, we were lucky enough to find a spot in front of our building. We went upstairs, unloaded our baggage and then proceeded to go out for the evening. When we got back around 10:30 the closest parking was actually about 1 building away, in front of the pool. Not too bad but still inconvenient. The second night we stayed though was a different story. We went out to a club and had a wonderful evening but when we returned back to the hotel at 2 am there were lots of people driving around. You would think it was the middle of the day. After three laps around the parking lot, looking in all kinds of places, we finally drove back to the lobby and my Husband went inside to inquire about parking. They told us that we would have to park at their restaurant (which is about a half mild down Turkey Lake Road). They were nice enough to provide security golf carts to drive you to your unit; but what a pain! Then of course in the morning I had to call for a ride back to my car. And I was not the only one. The entire restaurant parking lot was full. Now I take my car back to my room, where there was finally an open space, and load up my bags, only to have to wait in traffic for 15 minutes (in side the property mind you) just to get to the security gate for "express checkout". Got snoockered into a 60 min timeshare salespitch. FOR 2 HRS

My 17 year old son and I were in Orlando for the ISS show and decided to spend a little extra (as it turned out, VERY little extra!) and stay somewhere nicer than one of the national chain "room & bed only" places. The Westgate came up on the search as meeting our requirements of both amenities and price. Needless to say we were exceptionally and pleasantly […] surprised. Our 2 BR Deluxe Villa , as my son so eloquently put it, "felt just like being home". We really didn't want to leave as we were having so much fun with all the great amenities! Boats, fishing, an awesome 18 hole mini-golf course, 7 swimming pools. I was equally impressed with the "Market" they had on property. Had everything we wanted, not too overpriced as I would have expected, and very convenient. Although we didn't use them, the two on property restaurants were a huge plus too! This was the first time we have stayed at a Westgate property, and I will say we will definitely be back. SOON! I may even look into becoming an "Owner" with even more benefits and amenities! We really loved the place, and spent a good deal of time making plans for our return visit. Close to all the best Orlando attractions, great on-site amenities, and AWESOME "Bang for the Buck"! My experience was fine, but not great. First of all, this is a huge place, which means lots of guests; the night of my check-in they were very busy, and it took about an hour to check in, even with about 12 staff members at the front desk. Right after check-in, they pull you over to another table and immediately try to sign you up for a timeshare discussion, […] which I did not appreciate after an hour wait for check in -- let me get to my room, please! This property does not have a resort feel; the rooms are cheaply outfitted and furnished, though the size of the rooms was good, and a 2 bedroom "villa" was what we needed, as I was accompanied by my teenage daughter and 2 of her friends. The pool and spa were clean and well-maintained, though the deck chairs were older and in need of cleaning. Each room has a screened in porch, which would have been great had it been clean; I don't think it's on the cleaning staff's radar. The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable. For what we needed -- proximity to the Convention Center -- the room was fine, but I wouldn't choose this property again if I was looking to spend much time on the property. Mehr

The location I liked a lot. Central to all things Orlando and nearby to shopping and grocery. Arrived on a Saturday for a one night stay and waited in a line to check in for over half an hour which I've never done in Orlando. Staff was super nice even when we declined their timeshare sales pitch. Got to the room and it was very nice and clean. Unfortunately […] the air conditioner was not working and still wasn't when we got back from dinner. Placed two calls to the front desk and finally around 11pm a maintenance man said there had been a problem with a compressor and it was fixed. Parking was horrendous and leaving Sunday morning took forever because there is only one way in and out of the resort. Maybe in the off season, this wouldn't be as bad. Mehr
