Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa - Cabo San Lucas

The Hotel is near the Marina and downtown Cabo San Lucas. It is a 5 minute walk to the Marina and 10 minutes to downtown Cabo where there are plenty of restaurants and bars. The Hotel Pool area is nice and relaxing, not a lot of young rowdy people or loud music. The beach is nice but the waves are too big on the beach so you can not swim in the ocean […] at this hotel. There is a beach (Medano) nearby but you would have to take a Taxi to get there. There was a charge for the Internet but it worked fine both at the pool and in my room, Not too fast and not too slow. Parking for my rental car was free. The rooms are very big (mine anyway) and included two baths and a kitchen area with pots pans and microwave, There were no high pressure Time Share offers and no vendors at the pool area or on the beach (that again, you can not swim at). Room and facilities are AMAZING! Service at the restaurants at the resort was quick, food and drinks delicious and not at all overpriced. The hotel is located close to the main downtown area for shopping, eating, nightlife, etc...the only downside is that it's about a 20 minute walk down a large hill. However, even when walking back at 3am, my friend […] and I (both females) felt perfectly safe. My only other complaint was the concierge service--we did not get our towel cards or shuttle vouchers when we checked in, and when we went back to get them later in the day, the first three people we asked for assistance referred us to someone else on staff. Great food. Nice pools. Only three complaints. First, the towels in the room were beat. Frayed ends. Worse than a bad motel somewhere. They may have been nice towels at one time, but not any more. That was disappointing and gross. Second, the shower drain didn't drain well, so that by the end of the shower there were a few inches of standing water in […] there. Yuck. We booked a last minute trip to Playa Grande. The hotel surpassed our expectations. We did the all inclusive plan. A little pricey, but very worth it with two teen boys! Excellent location between Marina and Pacific. Rooms are spacious and well appointed, we stayed in 1 br suite. The food is OK but we prefered to eat at the various restaraunts arround the marina. Pools are fun. Others have said "dont stay at the Ridge" we stayed at both and liked both for different reasons. The bars at the Marina are loud all night […] (5AM) which is too bad because the weather is so nice we liked to sleep with the windows open. Mehr

First time in Cabo and this hotel was great. The pools were beautiful and great for kids. We didn't eat at the hotel much other than for breakfast. The close proximity to the marina was a nice option for walking into town for meals and drinks.

We really enjoyed our stay at Playa Grande. The property is beautiful. The check-in staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. Yes, you have to go through the obligatory sit-down where they try to get you to sign up for a timeshare presentation, but we smiled, said "no thank you" and were on our way to our room inside of 5 minutes. No one ever mentioned […] timeshare again for the next 4 days. The location was perfect for us. Beautiful pool areas, beaches, and shopping around the marina all within an easy walk. The facility is very clean, most of the rooms are overlooking the ocean. The staff is very friendly and try to enertain the guests and escpecially the kids with diffrent activities. The food was not the best, exept the Sushi was not that bed.

This hotel has everything you could need on vacation. You are walking distance to the marina and downtown but if you need/want to you can always catch a cab for a quick ride (about $6). The food at the resort is excellent. You can find cheaper in the marina area and obviously would have more variety but the restaurants on site are a good alternative […] option. This resort was not filled with "partiers" or alot of kids (we went the week before school vacation though) but there is no "adult only" pool which would have been nice. The jacuzzis were supposed to be over 18 years old but each time at the pool there were kids in there - clearly this is not enforced. It was not overcrowded and you were able to get into the restaurants with no problem at all. The concierge is the way to go to book any excursions (whale watch, sunset cruise, fishing). You will be charged a premium but you will know exactly what you are getting. We were in Building G with a large balcony and amazing view - well worth the extra to get the view! Although this is a time share resort we were NEVER approached by any sales people the entire week. We did arrive after 11 PM so that may have something to do with it but we were never approached after that. Overall, I would highly recommend Playa Grande and would definitely return! Mehr

Great location. Relaxing beach as access limited to those staying at the resorts along the stretch. Well maintained resort. No reason to leave resort grounds except for a walk downtown for a bite to eat. You'll have to get up early to reserve a chair along the beach.

Very nice 4star hotel right next to the marina. Easy walking distance to everything. Cocktails are great as is the service. Initially put us in a Ridge room with a partial Marina view and the smell of fish restaurant right below was too much so we asked for a new room, which we received two days later. If you stay on the Ridge side get a room high up […] otherwise your view is not good and you will be sucking kitchen smoke. The ocean view rooms are really nice--definitely recommend. $150 hotel credit is $30 for mini--golf(worthless), $30 for spa credit(way-overpriced), $90 for drinks at the property and its restaurants. Hotel is crazy over its towels, which are old and not very nice. One towel per person and don't lose it otherwise you will pay $16. Hotel food is ok--better restaurants and prices in town. Go to Pamplas Argentinian Steak house.within easy walking distance. No sugar or cream for in room coffee machine, but they will sell you coffee for $15. Check your bill CAREFULLY before you depart. They will spend 5min adding and subtracting your drink bills and $90 drink credit. They gave me a $12 debit, not credit for drinks at one restaurant. I caught it, they apologized, and removed the $12 debit. I then had to remind them that they still owe me a $12 credit, which they gave me. Careful of this scam--a credit will have a minus sign in front of it. You can't swim in the Ocean on the Pacific side, but the pools are heated and very nice. Mehr

This hotel (actually a complex of several hotels and time-shares) is clearly geared for a middle class American clientele, especially families and groups. There are guests who seem to come there every winter. At the same time, there are several pools restricted to adults and no drunken "spring break" types. If you find such a crowd congenial, this is […] a the place for you. It is a all-in-one resort in a town which is nothing but a resort; you could enjoy your stay without leaving the complex. The hotel and grounds are immaculate and the large, helpful staff seems genuinely to want to make your stay as pleasant as possible. It is very professionally managed. It includes a full schedule of the usual activities (Mexican fiestas "turf and surf" barbecues, etc.) but the resort is large enough thato you can always find a quiet escape, if you want. The food is "cruise food," of good quality, plentiful but basic. There is a more upscale restaurant at an adjacent property, "La Roca," where meals cost around $40 (drinks and gratuity excluded.) For a more "atmospheric" ambience, people might want to consider Todos Santos, La Paz or Barrientos in BCS or Guanajuanto, San Miguel de Allende, Taxco or Merida inland. Mehr

This hotel was great. The room was nice and we had a beautiful view of the ocean. All restaurants were good including lobby bar. Pool side food was good as well. Sushi at the lobby bar is amazing. Our experience was very good. Facilities are wonderful. The beach has fast drop off, undertow and rip tides, so not good for swimming. Resort staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. Food was very good.

The check in/check out staff, bellhop, and concierge were very helpful and courteous. We got a free upgrade to the Ridge, which was huge and had a great view of the Marina and sea of Cortez. I would give this hotel a 5 if it were not for certain staff swarming you as you enter the lobby, offering you drink certificates, etc. to make you sit down and try to sell you time shares. We had a 1Bedroom, 2 Bath just off the beach area. It was great for our family of 4, though the sofabed was like a rock and the foldout had a really thin mattress...but the kids suffered through. The only reason I didn't give every category a 5 is because I'm a hard grader and very few places merit straight 5's. We booked a package deal to get some wintertime sun and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of this place. Yes, they are in the timeshare business but there was absolutely no hard sell and I was frankly expecting more push from […] them. The facility is very nice; our room was comfortable and the kitchen perfect for our simple needs. (Milk, cereal, coffee, all available to purchase on-site). I had an excellent massage (not cheap, but high quality) in their super clean and modern facilities. The concierge people were very friendly, although not entirely accurate in their sales efforts to connect us to a snorkeling adventure. We were told we had booked the Chileno Bay location but our boat instead took us to the "lesser" Santa Maria beach. Location is excellent and quiet enough for us all to get a decent night's sleep. One side recommendation: walk 5 minutes down to the harbor and find La Taverna GastroBar, on the nearer, quieter side of the harbor. We enjoyed the food and mellow atmosphere so much that we came back for a second time in only 4 days. Best food and gracious service during our whole stay, by far! Mehr

The hotel was fabulous, as was everything about our stay. The only things I would like to see improved on is to have a working ATM in the lobby (none of the ones at the marina were in working order), and to have the pool bar open earlier :) Lots of activities, and a lot to do close by.

The front desk refused to put the two rooms we reserved close-by unless we upgraded to a bigger room. The non-smoking room had an ashtray and had a strong cover-up smell. Other than that, this hotel was okay.

Playa Grande is a great resort. We have two young children. The resort is far enough away from the hustle of Cabo to be relaxing, but close enough to walk to everything. The resort is beautiful and the 4-5 pools were a lot of fun for everyone. Beware, the closest beach is not swimmable, but it is easy to get to the ones that are. We did not buy anything […] extra at the resort - it was way too expensive. We made the mistake of assuming the Kid's Club was free like it was in Cancun, but it is not. Big extra cost. Also, the resort meals were way too expensive. We bought a few groceries and walked to Cabo for most meals. If you can get past the nearly constant time-share sales atmosphere that pervades all of Cabo, it is well worth the expereince. Of all the resorts we saw, Playa Grande was the best! We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful resort with a super easy walk to downtown Cabo sights, restaurants, and nightlife. No hassle with cabs. Only caveat is that this is a time share resort. Sales people in the lobby will approach you the first day. Say no thanks and they leave you alone the rest of your visit. We'd stay there again.

My husband and I visited in November and will definitely come back with our children and extended family. We had a wonderful time! The resort's service was great & the location was ideal-on the beach AND close to the marina, town and lots of fun! But you never have to leave the resort to have fun! I'm celiac and was very nervous about finding gluten […] free food while in Mexico. I emailed the concierge before we arrived and she requested I ask to speak with the head chef when we arrived. I spoke with the head chef and the head chef of the Brigantine just after we checked in. Within 1 hour ALL of the restaurants were notified of my food restrictions and quickly and easily made accomodations for me whenever I ordered throughout my stay. We even went to the Italian night feast and the head waiter and head chef took me through each and every food item and told me whether or not I could eat them. 1.5 hours later I couldn't recall if I could eat the fish dish, but it looked as if I could - as I went to grab it, the maitre'd came out of nowhere and told me I couldn't. AMAZING! The Brigantine staff were so amazing and verified changes with me! I felt truly at ease eating here and staying here - something I usually don't feel being gluten free! Also, a previous post said the chips were not gluten free, but I had no issues with the chips and noticed that many of the restaurants around town also used the same chips. We'll definitely be back!
