Divi Southwinds Beach Resort - Barbados (alle)

All rooms at the Divi are units consisting of a good sized open-plan sitting room & kitchen area with a breakfast bar or table and chairs, and a large bedroom reached through a vanity/dressing area off which there is a rather cramped bathroom with a toilet and a small bath with shower above. A patio door from the sitting area opens onto a reasonably […] sized balcony. Our unit was nicely presented, well decorated and well furnished with plenty of drawer space, wardrobe space and hangers. The kitchen was equipped with a full-sized electric cooker, microwave, large fridge/freezer, toaster and coffee-maker. Cooking equipment and utensils were just about adequate for basic meal preparations - contents may vary as some units are timeshare owned. The TVs in both rooms were old models, the number and choice of satellite channels was disappointing and the reception was poor on some. There was a DVD player in the bedroom. The 'Garden ' rooms actually overlook the hotel frontage, car park and the busy (and noisy) main road on which the hotel is situated. They are north facing and the balcony is shaded most of the day. The main pool is large enough for proper swimming but there is very little shade around the pool and no sunbeds or chairs elsewhere in the grounds. The St Lawrence Gap road separates the hotel and grounds from the beach, beach villas, small beach pool (new) and the beach cafe/bar. Fellow residents were mainly retirees, a few families and airline crews. Mehr

The location was the best part of the trip. The service was very slow and very inefficient. Very laid back and give an air of not caring. We booked one night as a hotel night to lead into a week of traded time share at the same place. I have been to Divi many times before. It is not the most luxurious, but it it is in a superb position, on one of the best beaches in Barbados, and convenient for all the restaurants in St. Lawrence Gap. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

The rooms were kept all right, but you never got any more condiments after the original day. Any other hotel replenishes daily. If we wanted any more coffe, we had to go out and buy it. They never managed to get the requests as to the needs for the room. The hotel is clean and comfortable but the staff are rude and very unhelpful! Don't expect anything apart from a self catering room as the bar was not open in the day and apart from managers drinks for 1 hour 1 evening a week there is no entertainment and the food is really expensive! If you want to go to Barbados I would suggest a hotel on the east or west coast. The south where the gap is at is really run down. There are many panhandlers that will not take no for an answer. Located in the middle of St Lawrence Gap, nice place, great pool, seaside, and good rooms. Food options at the hotel were limited but you have the whole GAP options for nitelife and eating just a 2 min walk up the beach.

Well let me say this, if you want to relax on the beach, read a magazine, and take a nap this hotel is the place to do it. The beach front room was not exactly on the beach, the atmosphere on the Tue. and Wed. night was very quite, perhaps it livens up on the weekend. We stayed at the Divi for 10 days, with our 2 little ones. We had a suite, pool view, and on the main floor, which worked out well, as we could walk out to the pool easily. The resort is okay. It's definitely got more of a hotel feel as opposed to a resort feel. The staff were definitely not overly friendly or welcoming however, the cleaning staff were […] quite nice. Front desk staff were not welcoming at all. The grounds weren't great. The pool was nice, and the kids enjoyed both the big pool and the kiddie pool. It would be nice if there was some music at the pool, it was super quiet all the time, which can be nice, but a little soft island music would have been nice. The park was a nice break from the water for the kids. They quite enjoyed that. Meals are completely overpriced at the main restaurant/bar. It was empty all the time. I only saw a few people eating there on any given day, and sometimes none it seemed. The Mini-Mart sucked and the staff there payed no attention to the customers, just yapped all the time with their friends like a paying customer was an annoyance. I get the sense that the resort focusses their attention on the time share holders/members. We enjoyed our vacation, but don't think I'd go back to the same hotel again. If the staff had of been a bit more friendly, I'd have a higher rating for this hotel. Many just seemed indifferent, and when we travel the staff have always been so friendly and helpful. This hotel is located right on one of the main hwys in Barbados hwy 7 that takes you to brigdetown, ostins and the airport, it is one of the greatest hotels i have ever stayed at...the St. Lawernce Gap is right behnd the hotel as so is the beach...this hotel is for everyone...and if your looking to do activities then right there at the hotel you can […] go see Janice or Juliet they were the greatest help as me and by boyfriend got to go parasailing, ziplining, jet ski, swimming with trutle tour and even to the harrison cave because they booked all for us. went for a girls trip. though i knew i wasn't intending on spending much time in the room while in a carribean country, I at least expected some standard-that was not meant. Ingrid was amazing. She truly is a pleasure to come in contact with when one first arrives. Always attentive when we approached to ask questions. My husband and I were very pleased to have met her. Make sure if you don't stay at the Divi South Winds make sure you ask if you can swim in the beach.After walking along the beaches at different areas we noticed many spots you could not swim in because of the rocks. This hotel was very comfortable. Beautifull pool and outdoor restaurant. The beach bar was fantastic and offers happy hour and good food....the beach setting was relaxing with lounge chairs and palm trees along dover beach. Really no complaints. I would definitely stay there again, if only for the beach bar and lounging experience.:)

This was my 7th time staying there in 25 years (and my 8th time in Barbados). Many others who have stayed there over the years noted how the hotel has gone down - is in need of repair. We haven't stayed there as often and I am not as critical, perhaps. It is a 3-star hotel after all - so my expectations were according to that.....Quite frankly, I found […] everything about the place perfect and to my liking - as did my husband. The staff is friendly and helpful - and displayed the usual courtesy and kindness of Bajans in general. They went out of their way to insure that our needs were met - to the front desk personnel who took our needs into account when checking in and out and were otherwise helpful when we had questions about anything or needed money changed etc, to the cleaning staff who were accommodating and did a great job every day, the head-gardener was a real pleasure to speak to and had his team nicely fixing up the place for Christmas, the activities director and coordinator were very helpful in suggesting the most appropriate catamaran trip for our family, the bartenders / waiters were great and fun to talk to, the person in charge of the beach chairs / umbrellas was very kind, etc etc. The unit we were in was clean and in good order. When we had an issue with the toilet (thanks to our 3-year-old) the maintenance person went out of his way to help resolve the issue, even though his shift had ended for the night. Additionally, when we arrived the main pool was not in use /was down due to maintenance...but we were allowed to use the members' pool - which was actually located in a shadier spot and perfect for us. The main pool was up and running again within days.... The hotel is located perfectly for going to restaurants, tourist shops and the mini-marts (for food) in the Gap there is the opporutnity to do watersports on the same beach and a couple of nice places to eat (including the hotel's beach bar) that overlook / are on the beach too.....and nightclu Mehr

I did alot of reviews before i chose Divi and i was very satisfied with my choice. The hotel was very comfortable and clean and travelling on off peak seasons has lots of benefits, such as having many facilities to myself which i thoroughly enjoyed. My room was very comfortable but i think the hotel should list the items available in the kitchenette. […] It was very well stocked and had i known this i couldve bought my own wine at the duty free shop :) I did not eat at the hotel since there were many options available at the Gap and i tried quite a few; pisces, cafe sol, harlequin etc. I was dissatisfied with the website's version of location. On the website, it stated that the hotel is located on the beach and while there is one property on the beach, the main hotel is located over the Gap and one has to walk to get to the beach. This needs to be clarified. Juliet from the activities centre was the best! She organised all my tours with such efficiency and i would also highly recommend the El Tigre Catamarran tour. It was the best catamarran ive tried in the Caribbean! Overall, i enjoyed my time at Divi and would definitely go back to this hotel if i ever go back to Barbados! Try it! Mehr

Special thanks to Amanda at front desk, Kathy Ann in house keeping, beachside bar crew, Juliette E & Tryone in Activities. Our room was clean & comfortable. Not quite luxury but very good for the price. Expansive grounds, very nice beach, accommodating staff. Internet is expensive and it would help if they spiffed up the corridors. The room was good with a well equipped kitchen. Good selection of restaurants within walking distance, we liked the Ships Carvery, the kids got the buffet for half price.

I brought a last minute 5th person with us to Barbados and the manager upgraded us to a penthouse suite to better accomodate. She was great. Her words were "we want you to be happy here at our hotel" and this made us happy!

The hotel is ideally located on either side of St Lawrence Gap, near to all the nightlife, restaurants, Dover beach, and just minutes away from Oistins, Supercenter, and Bridgetown. Transportation is so easy to access....just stand outside the hotel and hop a ZR bus (warning - they drive really hard, sometimes blast loud music, and can get really cramped!). […] It costs Bds$2. one way. I loved the quiet of the hotel, and the sound of the water fountain right outside the room. There were 2 tvs, a full kitchen, with utensils and adequate space in the room. Check in and check out were a breeze. Since check out was at 11am and our flight was much later, we left our luggage and had the option to use the hospitality room for showering and freshening up. the resort can be a beautiful place but it needs new mangers I have been going there for a number of years but this time was a night mare the shower stalls had mildew i bought bleach and cleaned it. The front desk staff is wonderful some of the maids are very good but some are very rude and unpleasent..But i find the managers are the worse

Physical amenities of hotel/beach were very good. However on our 4th night I became violently ill, resulting with my fainting and my son having to call for medical assistance. Before any help arrived I recovered and we cancelled the medical aid. To my dismay, no concern follow-up call was made by the front desk, and on check-out, when I complained about […] my experience, I received no sympathy, apology or concern about my condition. The only common denominator that we could think that it was the hotel water, and all they could say was that their water is drinkable. My advice to anyone staying at Divi is DON"T DRINK THE WATER. Fui com minha família e fiquei decepcionada com o serviço e a manutenção do lugar. Tudo muito largado. O horário para aplicação de cloro na piscina era totalmente inadequado. O pessoal para fornecer toalhas não ficava no local. Não havia gente para fornecer material esportivo. O mini-golfe estava todo arrebentado e com bandeiras rasgadas ( e ainda queriam […] cobrar pela utilização !!!) A limpeza do quarto era sempre mal feita e incompleta.
