Castlereagh Boutique Hotel - Sydney

Da das Hotel sich momentan (Jan. 2011) direkt neben einer riesigen Baustelle befindet, ist es dank Einfachverglasung ab morgens 7:00 unerträglich laut. Es ist damit praktisch unmöglich, im ganzen Haus ein ruhiges Zimmer zu finden. Wenn es nicht der Baustellenlärm war, dann dröhnte irgendwo immer eine Klimaanlage - wir sind 4 mal (!!!) umgezogen, haben […] dann entnervt aufgegeben... Leider wird die Großbaustelle, welche sich noch über Monate hinziehen dürfte, weder bei hier noch auf der Webpage des Hotels auch nur mit einem Wort erwähnt. Ansonsten sind die Zimmer leider auch recht verwohnt, klein und wiesen teilweise Schimmel in der Dusche auf. Als positiv ist allein die sehr zentrale Lage des Hotels zu nennen. Alles in allem ist die 4-Sterne-Einstufung in keinster Weise nachzuvollziehen! Mehr

Das Hotel ist ansich OK und sauber, aber für 4 Sterne kann man definitv mehr erwarten. Die Zimmer sind sehr klein und ziemlich alt (Teppich alt und verdreckt). In der Dusche waren Schimmelflecken an der Wand. Für den Preis definitv zu teuer.

The room I had was a bit claustrophobic. Window was large, but opaque with blind and curtains and no daylight was accessible. I had to put my alarm on to wake me up in the morning. Would ask for a room with a view.

The location was excellent, making all excursions simple and through areas excellent for walking and without the impact of traffic holdups. A delightful hotel with old fashion manners.

We only had two nights in Sydney and were happy with the hotel. The room is a bit on the small side, but very clean and comfortable. The lobby area is magnificent as is the lifts and hallways. The hotel is quaint in the way it runs. The location is fantastic - easy walk to Darlinh Harbour, Queen Victoria Building, Pitt Street, Art Gallery and the Rocks. The premises are showing their age - some parts in beautifully restored splendour, our room about 3+ stars - comfortable and serviceable but dated. We had a plumbing problem and the electric […] lighting changed in intensity from time to time. We were lucky enough to get a room with a view to Hyde Park - not many rooms would have that and we appreciated it. We also noticed that a number of guests we talked with were repeat guests - a good sign. At the rate we paid, we expected nothing more than we got. We came prepared for the building works. They did not affect our stay in anyway. The hotel was lovely and the customer service outstanding. Would definately re book.

this hotel is conveniently situated in the CBD of Sydney. I arrived on christmas eve so everything was in close-down. The room I was allocated was so small that I do not know how 2 people could use it without one having to sit on the bed. I was on my own luckily. Also, it was not possible to look out of the window and during the night there was the […] constant noise from a generator from the nearby building site. Location was great- right in the middle of downtown Sydney, but not loud at all. The room was pretty tiny/cramped, but it suited our purposes just fine. Internet was included in our reservation on hotels.com, but would have cost otherwise. The bathroom was a little strange in that the door was a sliding door that moved to cover the entrance rather than […] close it, and the drain for the sink and shower made burbling noises randomly, but neither were a particular bother. Lovely hotel and location. I would have preferred to be advised that the kitchen was being renovated and the dining room was closed at the time of our stay. My husband had a serious health condition during our stay and couldn't walk far and we were relying on dining in during our stay. The limited lounge meal was nothing special and not all that healthy. […] It is best for guests to be advised of such important issues before they decide to stay at a hotel so that we can make the decision about whether to stay or not on each visit, according to our needs. Room was quite small, but otherwise comfortable. Our rate included wireless in our room, which we were able to extend for a second computer. Loved that we were able to use a nice, clean laundry room for free! We extended our stay in beautiful Sydney from 4 to 8 days.

The location of this hotel is great, right in downtown Sydney and within walking distance of the major attractions. It is surrounded by great restaurants and breakfast places in all price range. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Complimentary laundry is also available though it takes a long time to get a load done. Good, modern hotel near the centre. Room was large, the bed very comfortable and the ameneties were good. Our only niggle was that although we stayed for four nights, the toiletries were not replenished. WiFi is very expensive. We would return.

Quaint hotel in a great location. Has everything you need, nice little pub, and great employees who go out of their way to assist. Rooms are small, and ours didn't have any view, but we were really only there to sleep. Perfectly comfortable and fit our needs.

We stayed for 6 nights at this hotel in a standard double room on the 9th floor. Location of this hotel is excellent. The room is small but very clean. Services from staff are very good. Other customers who stay in the hotel are mainly travellers and for business purposes. There were some minor construction noises from the next building but wasn't […] severe enough to wake us up in the morning. We mainly went out in the morning and only come back at night for shower and sleep, and the standard double room was very suitable for us. As noted in previous reviews, the rooms at the hotel are rather small, although this was not a problem for us as we spent very little time in our room. The location was fantastic. It was an easy walk to Circular Quay for ferries to many places of interest, to the Opera House, Chinatown, Darling Harbour, The Rocks, etc. Fantastic shopping was literally […] just around the corner on Market Street. The room rate given the location was extremely reasonable. All in all, we had an excellent six days at the Castlereagh. Mehr

The hotel is small but great locale, the food isn't so great but it's convenient and the staff is really helpful and friendly. enjoyed my stay and would recommend. I was travelling solo so it wasn't too small for me but i'd imagine it'd be a bit more cramped for 2 but doable!

Great value - close to City and staff very helpful - rooms fairly small (but larger rooms in hotels in the vicinity are double the price)

Classic old Hotel right in the heart of Sydney - very convenient to all locations. Only 15 minute walk to Circular Quay & only 5 minute walk to Darling Harbour. Rooms were small but adequate for our needs.

The room we got was very small for the price we paid, but the cleanliness and the location of the hotel makes it very attractive

My daughter and I stayed here for four nights & it was just great. Lots of character, good area, easy to get around Sydney, helpful staff, clean & comfortable.

Very guest friendly and informative personel. Close to Tour-Buses and even to the Sturbacks.

only great location; Construction start from 9:00am -5:00pm everyday, very noisy; the pillow and bed is very soft without support, I can't sleep very during my stay ; the carpet is dirty as well.

A step back in to history, the decor was antique style which was fine but the standard double room we had was very small and had a window that you couldn't see out of making it very claustraphobic. The location however was excellent, close to everything. A beautiful bar through the lobby but no one was in there at any time that we saw during our stay. […] We asked if the bar was open and if we could watch the AFL grand final. That was a big no no. A pleasant surprise! Beautiful old hotel, conveniently located. Old plumbing in bathroom wasn't great, and room a bit on the small side, but ideal for a short stopover. The staff were really lovely and Sophie on the front desk was exceptional. All in all a most enjoyable stay.

The hotel is located close to all public transport, shops and eateries. The hotel service, staff and the reception all good. Enjoyed my short stay. Will come back again.

I found the hotel location very convenient, staff very freindly and well presented. A bit noisy with work going on next door. The room was very small and glad there wa sonly me. TV needs updating, some images were cut off.

What a great place to stay - convenient location, excellent service and real cotton sheets and a real woollen blamket, plus clean and comfortable. Will go there again! Charles

Rooms are small, grubby, smelly and the noise from outside construction thunders from 7am to 7pm six days a week. Go elsewhere!

It was comfortable the shower could of been heavier. Good location, room a little small it was only the double, but your not in the room too much.

The location is great, the staff where helpful, however the room was small which was not a problem but the room was not clean!! I had read about this in other reviews and thought, some people over react but while the shower was clean the vent in the bathroom was so full of dust it wasn't funny! All the doors need oil on them to stop the constant squeaking! […] The floor hadn't been vacuumed. I am aware that the housemaids are only given a small amount of time for each room however if you want repeat business the room must be clean, every room should be cleaned top to bottom every couple of months. Great value for money and in one of the best locations,you could walk everywhere,the best shopping,restauraunts,theatre,trains,monarail, all just so close.The staff were friendly and helpfull.Especially the young man that rang us a taxi when we left,he was most helpfull.

i am staying here 2-d time already as it is a very convenient location, plus the hotel is neat and very quiet.its good if you coming to Sydney on business and need good sleep. It is also very comfi and I like the style-old and queen-like, without plasma tv. there is everyhting you need though.

This hotel is located in the heart of sydney with easy walking to all sight seeing. The room we had was small but adequate for a short stay.

A pleasant change from the ritzy hotel we stayed in at Darling Harbour. Comfortable, convenient and we felt secure. Enjoyed coming home to relax in one of the many lounges. Courteous and responsible staff.

I travel by myself and I enjoyed my stay in this nice hotel very much. Friendly very helpful staff, wonderful location and wonderful place to have dinner and a beer after a busy day walking around Sydney. I can't wait to go back!
