Grouse Inn - North Vancouver

We got exactly what we had hoped for in a low-cost, conveniently located motel. Traffic back into downtown Vancouver accross the Lions Gate Bridge was always heave and a bit of a drag but everything else was fine.

While we were only here 2 nights, the sleeping was tough. The beds were uncomfortable and the room smelled of old smoke. However, the kids were thrilled with the pool and swing set on site. The room was definitely overpriced for what we received.

Very good value at a relatively cheap price. Quiet, clean, attractive courtyard, friendly staff. Accessible location, close to transit stop and easy drive to downtown Vancouver if you take your car. Complimentary breakfast very poor, but you can't have everything for that price.

This hotel was a pleasant suprise and great location. near the Lions Gate Bridge and on a easy bus line. We were close to everything we came to see, Grouse Mountain, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Downtown, Gastown, Stanely Park. Also a Very clean and quite and location. We will stay there again.

Everything went well during our stay. The front desk people are all nice and helpful. Housekeepers are corteous. The location is at the middle of everything. If you like Grouse mountain like we do, well its only few minutes away. The only thing that made me give them 4 stars are the pillows. Ideal location, just over the bridge to downtown and 5 mins from Trans-Canada. Older but very comfortable motel. Efficient and no surprises, will stay again.

This was me and my husband's second stay at Grouse Inn during our recent trip to Vancouver. We were not as satisfied with our accomodations this time around. Our room was very damp and musty. There was no air ventation as the windows were screwed shut and the fan in the bathroom didn't work properly. This was our first stay at Grouse Inn. We really appreciated the affordable rates and the easy access to public transit (only a few minutes to Stanley Park and Grouse Mountain). The free breakfast was a nice touch. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff was personable. We stayed at this hotel for a 3 days vacation. The room is small for a 2 queen beds. It is old and dirty. The breakfast is terrible, I had the feeling that the breakfast is for the home less people. It is a expensive hotel and the quality is poor. With the money you paid for this hotel you should get a better hotel some else. We will not ever stayed […] at this hotel again. Mehr

The staff at the Grouse Inn were very polite and helpful. They let us check into our room several hours early and immediately addressed the issue of an alarm going off in an adjacent room. The location was great and we were easily able to get to the surrounding areas. The hotel is rustic and quaint and I would definitely visit again.

Arrived to find out that we had been upgraded to a larger room with two Queen sized beds. Everywhere was clean and comfortable. Appeared to be a very family oriented establishment with the outdoor swimming pool busy with a number of children. Staf were helpful and friendly.

Easy access to Stanley Park & area highways. Clean & good contenential breakfast.

The pictures provided by this Inn were highly misleading! I chose this hotel because of the information and pictures of the hotel because they showed clean, comfortable, bright hotel with new looking rooms, that most travellers would be happy to stay in. Instead what we found, was a room in what could best be described as a cavelike area, tucked deep […] in a corner on the ground floor, hidden behind a large cement wall, which didn't allow any natural light into the room. Upon entering our room, we were greeted by the scent of Nilodor (I think), dark, badly stained carpeting and highly worn wallpapered walls. In an effort to eliminate the room smell, we had to run the fan and air conditioner alternately, during our entire stay. We also noted that the lighting in our room was dim and not bright at all as the pictures had suggested. We now can only assume that the reason the lighting was made so dim, was to stop the guests from being able to really see how beaten up and worn the room truly was. A short while later, I made the mistake of trying to sit in the desk chair in our room. I quickly learned that I had balance my weight carefully in this chair, to avoid toppling over backwards in it. Then, when we attempted to use the refrigerator in the room, we found it had been unplugged and it wasn't until several hours later that we discovered why. After we plugged the fridge back in, we noticed that everything in the fridge was starting to freeze, so we turned the temperature down to the warmest setting. Then when we awoke in the morning, we found everything in the fridge frozen solid. I can only surmise that the fridge problem, like the rest of the room, was known to the management but not dealt with. Finally the king bed was uncomfortable and lumpy, clearly long past it's prime. Over the years, we have enjoyed countless hotels/motels stays. Obviously, this hotel stay was not one of them. Pros: Location is very good. Just across the bridge from stanley park. Cons : Very High Price for a average motel quality. One particular reception staff member was very rude, always. Looked like the owner of the motel. Room maintenance is quite poor. Carpet stains. Paint chipped off on the wall. Furniture was old. And a really old TV. Very good service, clean everyday. Got a good room. Excellent Iranian cafe next door, cheap and good food. Good breakfast. Close to travel to heart of the downtown. Small room.

GREAT location if you want to get away from the craziness of Vancouver downtown. The Sea Bus will take you to the Quay and then you'll hop on a city bus that will drop you right off at the hotel. You don't need a car! Heck, we even were able to walk across Lions Gate Bridge into Stanley Park. Very close to Capilano Bridge and Grouse Mountain. Our group rented three units for four nights. The description is misleading. No units view Grouse Mountain nor any water. Interiors are dark. Many units are older.

Hotel is average and continental breakfast is lacking but the location is great. Just minutes from downtown and great hiking. Plus it's right by Inn Congnito which doesn't look much from the outside but the restaurant is worth a visit.

The hotel staff were very helpfull especially helping us to use the public bus system. Once we parked the car, we did not move it as we used the bus and ferry. Room was fairly quiet considering it was so close to a busy road but it was hard to exit the hotel at times, also due to being so close to two busy streets. We stayed here for two nights, and this was a great place to stay. Located just across the Lion's Gate Bridge, it's still easy to get to downtown by bus, taxi, or car, but also close to Capilano Bridge and Grouse Mountain. The location of this little gem can't be beat, within 10 minutes of Capilano and Grouse Mt., Stanley Park, and downtown, but without the DT bustle and $$$. However, be prepared to deal with worn amenities. Some other rooms seemed more updated so your mileage may vary. If you're there to sight-see, and want to save some $$$ (functional kitchen, great […] local markets) this is the place to stay. It is what it is, an overnight bed with a budget breakfast. Everything is clean but just dated and set for the budget end of the market. Comfortable bed, hot shower but I wish the breakfast was a bit better. It needs proper orange juice and crockery, not polystrene plates and plastic cutlery. Staff helpful and always available.

Really good price for a large room with 2 queen beds. I was completely satisfied with all amenities and found the people at the front desk very friendly.

The hotel was well located and it was what we expected for our money. No complaints!

This location was very convenient for my work visit. The property was clean. Only issue was getting in/out of the property. When leaving from the Capilano Rd. ent/exit, getting to the left lane to turn onto Marine Dr. was a bit tricky. When returning, you can't turn left from Capilano Rd. so had to drive past the property and find a place to turn around. […] Not much you can do about that, it is a busy intersection that has grown up around you! Decent hotel for a weekend stay if you need good wifi though it's a deal breaker. Had to stand against one wall of the room in order to get a faint signal. When I asked hotel staff about it I was told to restart my device so the obviously don't know anything about how it actually works. The front desk staff fluctuated between non interest and a confrontational mode. Housekeeping failed to provide service on two occasions and there was no remedy other than" so what do you want me to do" Internet wireless connectivity was extremely bad. I did not get my "single king" room. Not recomended for anyone or family stoping over for more that […] a very short overnite stay. Throughly disgusted with the overall cleanliness and hospitality. The hotel is in a great location, just a few minutes away by car from the Capilano suspension bridge and Grouse Mountain and just a short drive over the Lion's Gate bridge to downtown. The hotel itself is a little worse for wear...a bit outdated and the room fixtures and furniture have seen better days, but the staff are so friendly and helpful that […] it makes up for the lack of finesse in the guest rooms. This was our first trip to Canada and the Vancouver area, and the staff at this Inn are goodwill ambassadors for Canada! Stayed three nights and wanted to stay a week. Standard room with a king bed,fridge and coffeee maker was nice, clean although slightly dated. Not a big deal. The Inn is located on 3 bus routes which makes it easy to get around the city from the north side to downtown. Vancouver has got it together as far as public transportation is concerned. Keep track of your transfer tickets! Did not miss having a car at all! Capilano Suspension bridge and preserve is a 2 mile walk up Capilano Rd. from the Inn and a short bus ride further up the road to the base of Grouse Mountain. Highly suggest making a day trip out of both locations, opting for a late lunch at the Grouse Mountain Resort. Their Nachos are GREAT! Bring your camera and take alot of pictures of the Breathtaking views of Vancouver and the Bay from Grouse Mountain and the Tram! I've rambled on long enough, Grouse Inn is the place to stay in the Vancouver area! We are already planning our next trip for a week stay, just haven't narrowed down the dates. Overall it was a decent stay. Pros: The pool was heated, which the kids enjoyed. The location was close to where we needed to be. Staff was friendly and responsive to needs. We were in room 114. There was a floodlight on at night, necessary I am sure, but it was directed right into our window and on to my face ( bed near wall) I had to rig a baffle of pillows beside my head to avoid it until we found a safety pin to join the two heavy curtains together, they not beingdesigned to be pulled across the window. If the light […] could have been directed at the two adjoing doors it would have saved us a lot of trouble.
