Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Cedar Rapids - Cedar Rapids

The bath tub was dirty (lots of hair in drain and mold around jets).The coverlet on the bed was dirty. This was a king bed suite with only 1 chair. the shelf over the toilet prevented proping open the seat and lid.The 2nd floor hall smelled musty.

The spa suite was booked for my health concerns. There was no hot water available to the spa tub; we filled it with hot water from the sink. The desk person told us the hotel was full, high water usage - hmmmm, the sink had hot water. There was no safety cover on the intake valve. My husband put his hand down in the water to see if it was warm enough […] for a bath and his finger was violently sucked into the intake valve. This was enough to rib the skin off around his finger and cause it to drip blood. While bathing, I got too close to the valve and it grabbed my hand once and my foot once; what a frightening experience. We removed six plates covered with food particles before we found clean ones to eat off of at the continental breakfast. My husband found what looked like a blood smear on the bottom of the sheet on the bed. What a sickening experience. Mehr

The room was amazing and the staff was great. Had a great stay!!

Comfortable enough. Mainly chose it for the free wireless internet. The breakfast and happy hour were nice too.

I don't know what the deal is, but this hotel cannot handle online check in. When I walked in the desk clerk was apologizing to a caller on the phone about messing up their online reservation. Then he attempted to help me, except that my online reservation was screwed up. While he was trying to get me straightened out he got another call from someone […] else who wasn't properly booked online. It's just online, because I saw them have everything ready for someone else who had called in their reservation. Hotel is nice, room was nice, bed was GREAT, location was so-so (like others said, it's surrounded by car dealerships so it's not the most pictuuesque place, nor are there good restaurants in the immediate vicinity (not a far drive though). The hot breakfast was as good as any I've had in a hotel. Didn't get the chance to attend a manager's reception but I think that is a nice touch. Everything is good about this hotel except their ability to accommodate online bookings. Mehr

I shared the suite with 2 other companions and the room set-up was ideal. I was pleasantly suprised at the size of the suite and that it had a separate bedroom. I was also impressed with the kitchenette with burners, sink, microwave and refrigerator. This would be an ideal room for a family or 2 couples wanting to share a room. Our room was clean and well-appointed. Good-sized bathroom. The property was attractive inside and out. The Hawthorn is close to nice restaurants and other retail businesses along Collins Road in northern Cedar Rapids.

I reserved a whirlpool suite and when I got to the hotel they said they didn't get that info from Hotels.com so I was not given the room I specifically reserved. They said they had no whirlpool suites available and wouldn't give me a discount since I had booked my room on hotel.com and said I already received a discount. Breakfast buffet was awful. We were very impressed with our complete 3 night stay...very friendly and helpful staff to accomidate your every need!

Comfortable bed. Close to highway. When I was there they had a baked potato bar and happy hour (with free beer and wine). The coffee was not too bad for a hotel. Much better accommodations than the hotels closer to the airport.

My room was clean and comfortable aside from the pillows. They were terrible. The stuffing inside was really lumpy and not near the quality you would expect from any hotel. Falling asleep and staying asleep was a problem. There was an electric buzz coming from somewhere in the room. I tried unplugging everything and nothing helped. This is a very nice hotel with great amenities. The indoor pool was shut down for a day( a little disappointing for the kids). But the staff was GREAT!!! I highly recommend thie hotel. I would also like to state that I never write reviews, but I feel like I had to. The price was OUTSTANDING. They offer free breakfast, and dinner. We not only saved money […] on the hotel price but on food. We only had to buy lunch for a family of 5 (3 teenage boys) it was a real savings. I room was large set up very nicely. We stayed at Hawthorn Suites even though while our family was getting together for our granddaughter's 1st birthday. Our son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter live in the NW corner of Cedar Rapids. They have a big home but have just recently moved. We would've been sleeping on the floor on an inflatable mattress at their home. It was more important […] for our other son who was visiting from Phoenix to stay at their house so he could be with his niece. My husband had a fantasy football draft so having the wifi in our room was perfect. The hospitality/breakfast area is very, very nice though we never got to use it. The pool and whirlpool areas also looked nice though we didn't have time to enjoy them. My only complaint was the reception/check-in desk. We waited 5-10 minutes (along with others) before anyone even acknowledged that we were there to check in and this was a 5:00 in the afternoon. Mehr

The employees were very efficient, helpful and friendly, The evening meal and breakfast in the a.m.were nice. Cookies were great!

Booked this hotel with hotels.com on my Smartphone an hour or so before arrival. Check-in was quick & easy, room clean & comfortable, and staff was very friendly and professional. Would stay here again!

First, I liked my King bed and extra roomy whirlpool tub! It is the little things that matter, though. I think the grill and chairs for smokers under the entrance canopy is not a professional looking first impression. Second, the tvs should be undated. Flat screens with good picture quality are cheap to purchase and a volume discount is surely available. […] The dated tv was a surprise since my previous stay about a year ago was during a remodeling phase. Third, a 4 day old newspaper in the workout room makes me question when was the last time someone went in there to clean. Last, I had to ask for coffee to be brewed at 8:30 AM during the breakfast? Upon arriving we were greeting by Elizabeth who was very pleasant. she ask how our trip was and if we needed anything just call the front desk. Our dog was welcomed witout any additional pet fee. Breakfast each morning was really good with a variety of cereals hot and cold. Fruits, yogurts and panstries. Lots of coffee and hot chocolate. The pool area […] and main entrance were always clean. The customer service was the best of the two weeks I spent trekking around the MidWest. I was traveling and staying different places each day and arrived early. The front desk person did all she could to get me checked in a room early. The bed was so incredibly comfortable, and the room was clean and furnished in a modern updated manner, but it did […] smell reminiscent of smoke. I'm not a meat-eater, but if I were, I would've been thrilled by the free outdoor BBQ the hotel puts on each evening. Good breakfasts as well. The pool and hot tub area was very clean and well-kept, except the hot tub had drains that were very dirty and needed cleaning and/or updating. Overall the hotel is comfortable and well maintained. A great deal for the price. However, I spend three nights there and the maid service was not up to the standards of the rest of the hotel. My towels were replaced each day but the restroom wa snot cleaned. I did not use the kitchen area but the packet of comlimentary coffee was stuck to the counter […] from a previous spill. Stayed in this Hotel annualy for one to two weeks on 4 successive years. The rooms were spacious before but this time they gave us a small room. One of the days, housekeeping wanted to know if we wanted service that day (don't understand why she asked that). Had to go to the desk for bath soap on two occasions and the refrigerator had something spilled […] in it when we got there and was never wiped out. The dining room person couldn't keep up, some of this was due to her going outside and visiting with other staff. The milk dispenser was empty more than once, fruit bowls were empty sometimes, the hot food containers (eggs, bacon, french toast) were empty at times and tables needed to be wiped. Last year this area could not have run better. They were older ladies that were very friendly and did an excellent job. Mehr

Spacious suite; very nice accommodations. We scheduled our return through Cedar Rapids to stay another night at this hotel.

Very good hotel for the value. The room was clean and the hotel was very quiet. My only compliant was the room that we stayed in was obviously and old smoking room and you could still smell the smoke. But I have stayed there before without that problem so it just must have been floor 4.

We went to celebrate our anneversary in Cedar Rapids. I know, fancy town hey?! Lol Actually nice really. The hotel had a great donut shot and Ice Cream shop nearby. It was centrally located. It was recently redone inside and has a nice modern feel. The colors even set it a notch above in feel. The bed was wonderful, I've never said that about a hotel […] bed. The breakfast was REAL! Our room was clean and new as well a few details could have been better from the remodel like the counter top had a small crack and the A/C was a bit soiled on the grill. But no surprises like trash, stains or mildew. Nice and clean. The location was great with a donut shop nearby. One reviewer complained about too many car dealers nearby.... Nonsense. The staff was nice and this place had 'extras' like a beer and small grocery area in the lobby. One could easily stay a week. Mehr

I came to Cedar Rapids for a family reunion and we were traveling with our 8 month old daughter. The hotel had a crib set up and ready for her when we got there. We requested to be near other family members who were staying there and they got us within a few rooms of one another (we weren't all adjacent only because of the types of rooms/suites we reserved). We […] arrived exhausted and were thrilled to learn that they not only have a free continental breakfast every day (which is was delicious), but on weeknights, they have FREE DINNER too! It was Papa John's pizza night the night we arrived. One night there was a gathering in the room next to ours, and we were concerned that it might be loud and go late into the night. However, there's good insulation between rooms - we barely heard them from inside our room. This was a great hotel for our needs, especially for the price, and I'll definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Cedar Rapids! Mehr

This is a fantastic hotel, easily accessed from the highway (I-380), great amenities (pool, spa, business center), and very modern, clean decor. Really enjoyed the manager's receptions on weeknights as well. Will DEFINITELY return to this location when travel brings us to Cedar Rapids. Highly recommended.

We stayed in a king bed suite. We had a dishwasher, sink, fridge, microwave, couch, desk, side chair, tv, bed, etc. The bathroom sink was outside the bathroom, so one could get ready at the sink while another was in the shower. We had some strange occurrences which I'm guessing were out of the oridinary. It appeared that the cleaning person was interrupted […] halfway into our room cleaning. A bottle of cleaning spray was left on the sink. We had new towels, but the old ones weren't removed. That kind of thing. We added a night during our stay and somehow our keys got deactivated even though the clerk specifically reprogrammed them for the new departure date. All in all, this hotel will be our first choice next time we're in town as long as the prices remain reasonable. Mehr

All personnel were very nice, rooms very comfortable. Enjoyed the jacuzzi tub in our room as well as the hot tub in the pool area. We would stay again.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hawthorne the room was clean and very comfortable! The breakfast was a great way to finish of our stay eggs, biscuit and gravy, sausage and waffles kept everyone happy in our group!

The hotel is beautiful, and they had everything ready when we walked in. I asked when how late the pool and hot tub were open, but the heater was out on both of them. We were really looking forward to relaxing in the hot tub that night. The room was very cozy with lots of space. There was a breakfast with many choices which we enjoyed. we totally enjoyed our room , the staff was exceptionally friendly and the bed was very comfortable and also we liked how quiet it was all night.

The room had paper-thin walls and showed wear. It was apparent this was a nice hotel when first made, but they have not invested to keep it nice. The beds were comfortable though. The service was horrible: Check-in: The gentleman at the check-in desk left me waiting over 5 minutes while he helped someone on the phone prior to checking me in. He was […] not polite and did not acknowledge my presence until he had finished his phone conversation. Upon arriving at my room, there was a full garbage bag right outside my door. I notified the front desk about it. When I left in the morning, the smelly bag was still there. There was a heavy snow during the night, and while the snow plow had cleaned out the hotel parking lot, it had blocked in my car. I had to shovel my own car out after asking the front desk for a shovel (no offer of help from them either.) Mehr
