Schoenes wasserhotel, etwas nervend die anfahrt mit faehre, ort eher langweilig aber es gibt ein guter italiener, fuer 2-3tage ok, dann sollte man eher golfurlauber sein, unser zimmer war leider mit aussicht auf garbage

What a great entrance as you drive onto a small ferry for the ride across to the island that has a Castle and a golf course.... and no more. The people were wonderful, the scenery was stellar and the first was first class. What a nice way to turn off for a while. Stroll the scenic walk and enjoy the quiet time. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. It sits on an island by itself which was beautiful scenery. It was quaint. The staff was very helpful and even comped us dinner because of a fan noise in the room. The room was clean and furnished in an old fashioned style which made it all the more incredible.

The staff were inconspicuous but always on hand to help , serve and promote a relaxed environment. The table d'hote dinner was first class. Disappointing that the cooked breakfasts did not maintain the standard.

we stayed in the waterford castle for 2 nights the staff was really helpful and courteous they went out of their way to assist us we had our 6 year anniversary and they were the only ones that made the effort to put that extra touch for us we stayed at the clontarf castle and fitzpatrick and they didnt do anything special except for them it was really […] nice of them.The only thing that i would say was bummer is that the hotel need a little bit of maintenance i know they want to keep the charm of the old style but a little bit of maintenance in it would make it even more magical Mehr

Excellant place to stay. Staff was very helpful. Hotel is a real castle with modern amenities. grounds are wonderful and the idea of riding a private ferry is great. Not very kid oriented but they were accomodating.

The rooms had inadequate lighting with no ceiling lights just bedside and a desk stand light. We went to have dinner there the second night we stayed. At 8.10pm they said it would be fine to come back before 9pm and they would give us a table so we went in to their bar had drink and then returned to the restaurant at 8.40 pm only to be told they were […] fully booked and could not give us a table. I complained that their service was crap and that we were guests staying their. We then walked off only to be followed by the maitre'd who then said they could find us a table which we declined deciding not to risk their food after complaining ! Mehr

Wonderful. From check in to check out everyone was very accomidating. We arrived late for dining but they allowed us to eat anyway and were very helpful. We did not feel rushed. We enjoyed our room which was much bigger than we anticipated. I was a suite of three rooms. We will definately stay here again and wish we were booked longer on this stay.

This castle hotel was just gorgeous from the outside. The ferry to and from the island was very efficient. The staff was friendly and the food was fantastic, although quite pricey. The room was very large but it was in need of some updating and could have used a ceiling fan in the bedroom as it got quite stuffing during the night.

When we drove onto the ferry, the experience began. When circling the drive in front of the castle, all I could think of was that this is what I had always dreamed of. The best bathing experience of all. Beautiful bathroom with claw-footed tub. The grounds and gardens were beautiful. Great food as well.

The hotel is very well situated on its own island and is easily accessible by car from Waterford city. The hotel itself is very old world, but well maintained. Great experience and the highlight of a 3 week trip through the British Isles. Superior facilities and service. Nice detailed touches and extra circular events like the historical tour of the grounds on horse and "trap" and the "hawk walk" in the woods. It was a gem of a place in a pleasant rural setting.

I have stayed here before - and enjoyed it enough to come back again. I found it a bit worn around the edges this time. And I hate fighting with shower curtains jury-rigged around claw-footed tubs. There has to be a better answer! Beds need an update as well. Food was pretty good (dinner).

We stayed here one night during a whirlwind tour of Ireland. We expected to stay inside the castle, but were disappointed to find ourselves in an apartment located on the castle grounds. We were not disappointed for long, this very modern clean apartment was more than what we could have asked for. Since there were three of us, we were pleasantly suprised […] to find three bedrooms, three bathrooms, living room, kitchen, and a patio to move about in. We had dinner in the castle since it was late and were pleased with that, but the "smart" apartment was definitely the highlight of our stay; once we figured out how all of the lights and electric worked. Really nice, the rooms were very clean and nicely done. The food was great and service friendly. The only issue for me....the carpet in the main entrance needs to be replace.....but other than that ...Great stay.

I always wanted to stay in a B&B in Ireland, and after a couple not so special B&B's it was nice to find a hotel with the charm of a B&B. The dinner, though a but pricey, was one of the best that I've had in years, second only to the Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Let me start off by saying that the grounds and outside are beautiful. You have to take a ferry to the castle, not a big deal. Our problem was that there was a wedding durring our stay so we were banned from going inside the castle/hotel. We stayed in a lodge which is what we booked BUT we thought we would have been allowed at least see inside the castle. […] I was very disappointed. If I had known we would have stayed elsewhere for a lot cheaper. The lodge itself was decently clean, had very little toliet paper, the web site detailed that there was a hair dryer in the lodge, the wasn't and the steam from the shower may have set off the firealarm but we are not for sure that was the casue. No one came to check on the alarn, we called reception with no answer. It finally went off on it's own. The rooms and bedding were comfortable and clean. When we went to check out we told the receptionist our issues. She said that she could get me a hair dryer now, that she was at the desk last night and did not hear the phone ring through, she offered us a bottle of wine for our inconvience (too bad we don't drink) she said there was not a way for her to discount our stay. I was most frustrated to learn that the castle was closed for a private funcation when we arrived. We were staying at the lodges, but were not allowed in the castle. The castle is also where the internet was--so we did not have internet as promised.

You can only get to Waterford Castle by ferry, but that one ferry ride makes you feel like you're going to a completely different world. The castle is stunning and secluded. Walking around the grounds really does make you feel like you're nowhere near civilization, but the city of Waterford is only about 10 minutes away (if that). The staff were extremely […] helpful and courteous. The only negative thing I can say is that the walls are pretty thin. I heard our neighbor's TV on until very late one night. That's it. Can't recommend this place highly enough if you want to experience a real Irish castle stay during your visit. Mehr

Room only was good value for money. Decided not to eat in the hotel at all as we felt the food was overpriced although of an excellent standard. Numerous high quality restaurants nearby in Waterford. Staff were lovely and a very scenic location. The ferry gets a bit annoying if you're over and a lot but it does run 24 hours a day so there's no problems […] with having a late night in the city. My husband and I stayed here in early March 2011 for one night on a 10 day tour of Ireland. The ferry is a car ferry and is very easy to use. We did not go back to the mainland until we were ready to leave but I'm sure it would have been easy to use. We spent the day exploring Waterford Town and then in the late afternoon drove over to the ferry and […] up to the "castle". My husband said that it was more like a manor house rather than a castle but it was still something different. Our room was nice and we had a great view. The claw foot bath tub was nice and large. We had afternoon tea with champagne and it came to over $80 which was way more than we thought it should be for some sandwhiches and tea, but it was nice and relaxing and we weren't rushed by the staff. Internet did not reach our room so we had to go to the main lobby area to use it. The grounds are nice to walk around but be careful as many of the paths have lots of mud. Definitely a more romantic option than a regular bed and breakfast or hotel. Mehr

First I must say this is a very unique place to stay, I do not regret my decision. I was however disappointed in the upkeep of the interior. With the star rating I was anticipating something nicer. My wife and I agreed it was worth the experience, but not a place we would want to stay more than one night. The rooms and the common areas are in need of […] maintenance/renovation. Paint was chipping and falling from ceilings, wallpaper was falling from walls, shower liners were molded. The photos on line are deceiving. Food was overpriced as well. The service was excellent! The Waterford Castle is an exceptional place to stay. Everything was perfect and the employees are very friendly and helpful with anything you might want. The rooms are beutifully decorated, right down to the floral decals in the toilet ! Really spacious rooms and an adorable bathtub/shower. Beds are comfy and inviting. Waterford Castle is exactly as described. A beautiful place, tranquil and peaceful, full of charm and character. Waterford City is only a 10 minute drive away, depending on traffic. There is so much to do and see in Waterford City itself and everything is within walking distance and well worth a visit. Initial room had food odors, noise and vibration from kitchen. Although these reservations were made many months prior, no other comparable rooms were available so we settled for staying in it one night with a meal in their dining room as compensation. We were told that the fans would be going off at 10 PM. The meal was absolutely fantastic. However, […] the next morning we were awakened by the fans going back on at 7 AM. From the time we got of the ferry onto the island, the surroundings were beautiful. The short scenic drive to the hotel was very nice. When we walked in we were very happy with our choice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was gorgeous and the view was amazing. We ate dinner in the bar and the food was very good. We stayed in several different placed over our 2wk stay in Ireland, and this was by far one of our favorites. My husband was a little bumbed because we did not have enought time to golf. The Waterford Hotel is located in a "castle" that is newer than perhaps advertised... off the top of my head only the reception hall is 16th century and the rooms and dining facilities are much more recent (19th century) but all blended together to make a very inviting place. Located on an island one needs to take a ferry across; trip lasts 3 minutes […] or so. One of the nicest meals we had in Ireland was sitting in front of the baronial fireplace, crisp linen laid for us across a coffee table, with a dinner of broiled steaks, salad, and white chocolate tartine. Simple food beautifully prepared. The bathrooms in the rooms are over the top! Mehr

My sister and I stayed at this hotel as part of a sisters' adventure through Ireland. We could not have been more pleased. The service was impeccable. The staff were very friendly and enormously helpful. When we checked in, we were asked if dinner reservations could be made for us, if we would like someone to park our car for us, if we needed anything […] else. The grounds were beautiful. We went for a late afternoon stroll and saw many deer. The next morning my sister went for a jog and saw even more deer and lots of hares everywhere. Our room in the castle was beautiful. The bathroom was very large and the tub was inviting. There is no internet access in the castle rooms, but free wi-fi is available in the grand reception area and part of the bar area. When I used it I had no problems. We were sorry we had to leave. It was a quiet, peaceful and beautiful place to end our trip. Mehr

This is a fantastic hotel and location. The golf course looked spectacular (I don't golf). The restaurant was expensive but worth the experience. This was our favorite hotel out of a 12 day trip.

The castle is a bit out of town (across the water) so you will have to take a small ferry, but it comes quickly. The reception area is charming, and they have a a couple of comfortable sitting rooms with period pieces in them. The rooms are quaint with comfortable beds and great views of the water. The bathrooms are huge, ours had a clawfoot shower/tub. […] Some of the things in the room are a bit dated, but are still charming. The bar was comfortable with good internet service and an attentive waiter. We did not golf, so I cannot judge the course, but walk to the lake and through the woods was refreshing. Mehr

I loved this castle hotel! The great room was beautiful, as were the grounds. The standard room was not spectacular (no four-poster) but it was clean and comfortable. We didn't do dinner because it was a bit expensive, but breakfast in the morning was very nice.
