"Tolles Ferienhotel"Bewertet von einem Hotels.com Gast am 22. Apr. 2012
Vorab : Wir waren mit unserer Wohnung ( Zimmer wäre untertrieben ) sehr zufrieden. Wir hatten OzeanView gewählt, was wirklich eingehalten wurde. Vom Balkon aus konnte man der ca. 20..30m entfernten Brandung zuschauen und das in Richtung Sonnenuntergang. Romantik pur ! Der Strand direkt am Hotel geht definitiv nicht zum Baden. Statt dessen gibt es (unter anderem) einen tollen Pool von dem aus man direkt über das Meer blickt. Das Zimmer war toll eingerichtet, auch die Küche war komplett (einschließlich Geschirrspüler). Über die ganze Anlage verteilt gibt es BBQ, die perfekt in Schuss sind und zum abendlichen grillen einladen. Besonders gut hat uns gefallen das wir in unserer Wohnung eine komplette "Strandausrüstung" gefunden haben (Stühle, Bodyboard, Schnorchelausrüstung etc.), ob dies der Standard oder ein Präsent von Vormietern ist wissen wir natürlich nicht, toll war es jedenfalls. Das Hotel liegt ca. 6 Meilen außerhalb von Kona. Es sind sehr schöne Strände im Umkreis von ca. 10 Fahrminuten. Ein Auto ist für den Aufenthalt unerläßlich. Beachten sollte man das die Rezeption nur von 8:00-17:00Uhr geöffnet ist. Ein "Late Check In" geht wohl irgendwie, aber es macht sicher Sinn vor 17:00 Uhr einzutreffen. Überhaupt scheint sich das Hotel eher als eine Ferienwohnungsvermietung zu verstehen. Zimmerservice kommt nur auf Anforderung bzw. bei Abreise. Die Außenanlagen waren top in Ordnung, alle 3 Pools sauber und das Personal jederzeit freundlich. Wir kommen gern wieder.

"Schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen"
Man merkt dem Hotel doch an, dass es in die Jahre gekommen ist. Der Service und das Personal gleichen es aber wieder aus, wirklich gut. Raucher haben es sschwer, es gibt lediglich drei Raucherzonen, man ist dabei immer auf dem Präsentierteller und wird meistens mitleidig angesehen. Alles in allem aber doch eine Empfehlung.
"Super-Lage mit kleinen Schwächen"
Es ist ein empfehlenswertes Hotel in absoluter Top-Lage. Bei Meerblick ist man von seinem Balkon nur wenige Meter vom Pazifik entfernt. Die Zimmer sind groß und gut eingerichtet. Der Pool ist auch sehr nett; Strand gibt es aber wie überall in Kona fast gar nicht. Restaurants und Coffee-Shops sind nur wenige Meter entfernt. Nachteile: Die Zimmer sind […] nicht unbedingt perfekt gereinigt. Wifi ist nur für 10 $ pro Tag verfügbar und ein Business-Zenter mit Internetzugang ist nicht vorhanden. Lediglich ein PC für den Ausdruck von Bordkarten wird zur Verfügung gestellt. Der Fitnesscenter besteht nur aus einem Laufband und einem Crosstrainer, der aber zu unserer Zeit defekt war. Man sollte dies aber auch immer in Relation zum günstigen Preis sehen. Insgesamt überwiegen daher deutlich die Vorteile, so dass wir dieses Hotel auch wieder buchen würden. "Ocean View in lebhaften aber angenehmen Hotel"
Das Hotel ist aus meiner Sicht das beste im ganzen Ort, da es tatsächlich einen Ocean View bietet. Es ist sehr lebhaft - jedoch wird nachts auf die notwendige Ruhe für den Erholungsschlaf geachtet. Somit hat man 2in1. Kein ausgestorbenes Hotel - trotzdem angenehme Nachtruhe. Die Preise sind durchaus in Ordnung, Frühstückmöglichkeiten direkt nebendran. […] (Coffee on the Rocks) Auch am Abend hat man die Möglichkeit an der Bar einen Drink zu nehmen oder eben das Umfeld zu erkunden welches ebenfalls vielfältige Shopping - und Eventangebote parat hält. Bars und restaurants gibt es im Ort ohne Ende (alles fußläufig erreichbar - auch wenn vielleicht mal ein MaiTai zuviel konsumiert wurde). Mehr

"Nicht so "Royal""
Durch andere Bewertungen wusste ich ja schon, dass dieses Hotel nicht ganz so "royal" ist. Der erste Eindruck ist gut, man sieht es von weitem, interessante Architektur, die Zufahrt, die offene Lobby, alles sehr schön. Von Freundlichkeit war allerdings nicht wirklich die Rede beim Einchecken. Ich fragte sofort nach einem neulich renovierten Zimmer, […] ich war in Zimer 615 im Alii Tower, 6. Stock, seitlicher Meerblick. Größe des Zimmers ok, Ausstattung ok (neuer LCD-Fernseher, Klima), Bad ok (zumindest für US-Ansprüche). Das Wichtigste ist die Sauberkeit, das hat alles gepasst. Die Wände sind aus Papier, zumindest scheint es so wenn der Nachbar telefoniert. Mein Zimmer "müffelte" Gott sei Dank nicht, soll aber hier nicht so unüblich sein. Die allergrößte Frechheit sind aber die Balkons, die bautechnisch bedingt von jedem Nachbar einzusehen sind, man sollte also IMMER wenn man im Zimmer ist die drei Holz-Schiebetüren geschlossen halten (keine Vorhänge), was nicht so meines ist, da es dann ziemlich finster ist. Mit offener Balkontüre im 6. Stock schlafen ist auch nicht möglich, da jederzeit ein Nachbar einsteigen kann - diese Balkone sind von JEDEM mit Leichtigkeit zu überwinden!!! Wer allerdings auf Big Island ist um im Zimmer zu sein, der macht was falsch und sollte zu Hause bleiben, also "nur" zum schlafen empfehlenswert. Ich habe keinerlei Hotelleistungen in Anspruch genommen, auch die $ 10,-- kann man sich für das Parken sparen, ich hatte trotz ausgebuchtem Hotel immer die Möglichkeit nicht weit entfernt zu parken. Der Pool ist für die Größe des Hotels absolut nicht ausreichend. Alles in Allem zum Schlafen ok, ansonsten sollte man sich aber ein echtes Luxushotel gönnen. Man merkt im Detail dass die besten Tage des Hotels vorbei sind, in den 70igern und 80igern muss dass DIE Adresse gewesen sein! Hotelstrand gibt es keinen, allerdings ist ca. 1/2 Autostunde nördlich einer der schönsten Strände Big Islands inkl. WCs und Duschen. Mehr

"Royal Kona Resort gar nicht so schlecht"
Abesehen von einem eher unfreundlichen Empfang durch eine Mitarbeiterin der Rezeption waren wir ( 2 Singlefrauen) mit dem Hotel zufrieden. Das riesige Hotel ist auf den ersten Blick nicht gerade einladend aber die Zimmer sind großzügig angelegt, große Terrasse, 2 King/Queensize-Betten, kleines aber sauberes Badezimmer, Sauberkeit allgemein recht gut. […] Störend ist die Hellhörigkeit des Hotels. Morgens um 5.30 glaubt man bereits das halbe Hotel wäre in Bewegung. Die WC-Spülung ist so laut, dass man Angst vor einem Wasserrohrbruch haben muss. Die Zusatzkosten für Parkplatz ( 10 USD ) erscheinen im ersten Moment hoch, der Parkplatz ist bewacht, was das Gefühl von Sicherheit vermittelt. Wer das WIFI nützen möchte muss mit weiteren 10 USD/ Tag rechnen. Im großen und ganzen waren wir mit der Anlage zufrieden und können das Haus weiterempfehlen. Mehr
"Direkt am Meer"
Gutes Preis/Leistungsverhältnis. Unbedingt Zimmer mit voller Meersicht buchen, am besten das Eckzimmer, das hat ne riesige Terrasse. Gleich nebenan gibt's dutzende Restaurants im lebhaften Küstenstädtchen. Das Hotel ist ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen und nichts für Leute die Stille suchen, aber toll für jene die für wenig Geld in der Nähe des lebhaften […] Örtchens sein möchten. "great place to stay"
We upgraded to an ocean front room omg it was so beautiful. The ocean was almost under our balcony. just amazing. The staff could not have been more helpful. The location was great would absolutely recommend this hotel
"Ok - Nothing Great"
Walking distance to a lot of restaurants. Nothing great though. And having to pay for parking and Internet was super lame. Would probably not stay here again, just splurge and stay at the Marriott or Hilton up the coast.
"Excellent location, so - so hotel."
This is the second time we have stayed here, the last was 4 years ago. You couldn't ask for a better location in Kona. Our room was an ocean front, large and a huge lanai. Had AC but slept with the 2 sliding doors open to hear the waves crashing and to get the cool night air. the couch in the room however was so filthy, that we asked them to exchange […] it. They said the didn,t have another, so I had them cover the couch and chair with sheets, otherwise we would not have used them. I have seen cleaner couches out for the garbage. When the guy from housekeeping came to cover it he saw it and said "Oh my goodness". The hotel is getting run down and needs to be renovated. Sliding door locks don't work so they have attached another lock to the door and the frame. The bathroom was okay but had to be slammed if you wanted it to stay closed. Carpets are worn and it is definately a 3 star hotel. After saying this, we would stay there again. Depends on the room location, but we had a great view and the room we could put up with. Staff extremely friendly and accomodating. restaurant only open for dinner 3 nights a week, but food is good, and also great location with tables right on the ocean. Mehr

Enjoyed my stay, room was clean, modern, staff provided good service. Room had flat screen TV with good selection of channels. Hotel restaurant provided good selection of local food. There is also a Luau available on property. Would stay again.

"Our "tower" experience"
Our corner room was spacious with a generous deck, which we loved. The room smelled a little musty when we entered but after opening both sets of sliders, the odor seemed to dissipate. We enjoyed a drink and food at the hotel bar where the service was friendly and the view was lovely. The bar dj provided music that was sound-level appropriate for people […] trying to have a conversation. The water in both pool levels was cold so no relaxing swim. The linens were adequate but not luxurious. A fine spot for our one night stay prior to departing the Big Island. Mehr

"Great location"

The location was perfect for walking around historic Kona. We did have to switch rooms since the first room didn't have hot water for showers. Staff was very kind and helpful! I would stay here again.

"Beautiful resort, very convenient!"
I thought this was a beautiful hotel, from the lobby, to the resturant, to the rooms. It was very open and comfortable, and everything you needed was right there! The staff was very friendly, and I loved the open air bar/resturant area. Our room had a huge corner balcony. The room was large & comfortable. If I had to be picky, I would say the bathroom […] needed some attention... it looked updated but not done well. A lot of the fixtures were rusty. Otherwise, a beautiful hotel through and through!!! "Good value"
This hotel is located in a scenic spot easy walk to shops and restsurants. The building is dated but service was good, room was clean and had all we needed.

The hotel is conveniently located near all the Kona night life, as well as right on the ocean front. Although the service was adequate, since there were four of us, not enough towels were provided. Also, it was surprising coffee was only available for the first morning, and no more. We were expected to purchase additional packets in their sundries shop, […] kind of a chinzy deal. In addition, the taxes and "service fees" added to the room rate, doubled the price per day, an unpleasant surprise. "Room View and Buffet"
Our "ocean view" was of three palm trees!!!! We were however able to change rooms the last two days to the Bay tower with an ocean view. We have had better breakfast buffets for free at the Best Western and Days Inn Hotels. Definately overpriced for what you get.
"Royal Kona was royal"
Great stay. Got free view of the Luau show from our balcony and the staff were very helpful with a late check out time and the use of a room to clean up before we left for our red eye flight home.

Me and my family had a great time at The Royal Kona Resort. i have'nt stayed there for a very long time. I would really recommend friends and family to stay there. The location was beautiful, especially because we got ocean view,at a slightly higher cost, ofcourse. We could'nt get reservations by calling the hotel, so i tried other options and Hotels.com […] is where its at. We will definetly use Hotels.com again. thank you very much Mehr
"Room with a view"
I had a great room with a view of the mountains on the right side and the view of the ocean when I was sitting in bed on the left window's. The room was a top room 7th floor on the corner. What a surprise !!! The bar was great, Cory and Garret were great bartender's. Don the Beachcomber for breakfast was good. The view and staff help was Top Notch. For […] scuba diving - Big Island Divers was was FANTASTIC. Great staff, we saw 21 Giant Manta Rays. I am an underwater photographer, and the photos were Nat Geo. that night. For great Hawaiian Music, walk nest door to Huggos. Music from 5:30 to 9pm. You can dance on the sand, Yahoo. I love The Royal Kona Resort. Mehr
"Exceeded Expectations!"
The hotel's grounds were just absolutely gorgeous! Located directly next to the ocean, sitting poolside or at the bar and gazing out as the sun was setting and the tranquility of it all was amazing. And I felt at ease with the price because we weren't spending nearly as much as you would think they could charge for this wonderful resort. It helped me […] sleep easy in their plush and comfortable beds. The staff is simply awesome. They were cheerful and accomodating every step of the way. A true demonstration of the Aloha spirit. We loved our stay here. The rooms are bit dated but very clean. The landscaping, lobby, views etc. are great! The bar has the best Mai tais at a reasonable price. You can walk to shops and restaurants. We would definitely stay again. Great value for the price

Pros: Great location. Walking distance to restaurants/shopping. Close to airport. On the beach- nice view. Cons: Needs a makeover! No hot tub :( Pool was okay but not very resort-like and you could not bring your own beverages. Beds were not very comfortable and comforter was old and had been washed many, many times. "Perfect Location"
The hotel location is perfect, 1 minute walk to town. Quiet at night, and no road noise during the day. A very peaceful place to stay at. Had a beautiful luau setting, and the pool area is clean and convenient to the rooms, restaurant, and bar. Amazing sunsets right from the restaurant, or sitting area. Ann at the front desk is a grrrrreat person. kind […] and friendly. She has helped my family out for 15 years. I would highly reccomend this hotel for a weeks stay. "Disgusting"
The hotel three star rating would indicate a level of cleanliness and updated accommodations that did not match our expectations. Although the outside of the hotel was well groomed and the beach view was excellent, the inside of the hotel simply sucked. The elevator was old with a rug to match and with stains and scuffs along the walls. The hallway […] carpet was old and dirty. The room carpet was old and dirty with visible stains. The room was also dusty and smelled of mildew and the dust that caked the detailings of the room; the fixtures and electronics are probably 15-20+ years old; the craftsmanship is poor in regards to the wall painting, carpeting, and wood work; the wall mirror, chairs and baseboards were chipped and the walls and door at foot level were scuffed and stained as well. The sliding glass door was old, dirty (as in, caked in dust), and difficult to operate. The bathroom was simply disgusting; the bathtub was last cleaned during the rein of King Kamehameha I with black rim around the fixtures, brown stains on the floor of the tub, dust-filled air conditioning vents, rusted walls and metal fittings and black mold on caulk. Notice the repetition of "old" and the stress on the dirtiness. To be fair, the hotel has three towers. We didn't stay in the main one and I didn't care to go in. The restaurant, to which we had a view from our room, looked old as well, but had a great view of the ocean. Stay at your own peril! Mehr

Great location. Great view of ocean from pool. Rooms nice enough. We needed a fan to help keep our room cool enough but i like it very cool. Restaurant food and bar service good but priced as you would expect a seaside Hawaii resort would be. Very convenient to local kona restaurants and shops.

Loved the lobby and sitting watching the ocean, the bar, the drinks and food, and just vegging downstairs but the room was in need of cleaning and updating (ceramic tiles shouldn't have "dust bunnies" and hair in corners and on edges of tiles), and the "ocean view" was more a view of service area and back lane and parking. Complaining didn't help although […] most staff were very nice. Early bird rates reasonable but expected cleanliness. Mehr

We have never visited the big island and booked this purely from Hotel.com reviews. We thought it was great and a very good value. We loved the location. Just a few blocks down the street from major tourist strip. One the water with a very good view. We would stay there again.

While prices at the bar and restaurant are too high, In my opinion, this is a great place to stay for a few days. Really close to downtown and all its restaurants and shopping stores.

"Enjoyed stay-Needs Uprades"
Nice hotel but showing its age. Badly needs some upgrading. Coud be the first rate hotel it once was. Overall it was a good value.
"Close to town"
The location is really great. Close to a lot of dining and sightseeing options in Kona. Their in-house bar (Don the Beachcomber) is a great place to watch sunsets. The rooms are clean and comfortable but not at all luxurious so if you are okay with that stay here.
"Beautiful Location"
The Royal Kona Resort is located on an old lava flow situated right on the ocean front. There is no beach to speak of, however the waves crashing on the rocky shore makes up for it. I loved just listening to the waves at night through the balcony door. I just wouldn't recommend it if you wanted to go downstairs and lay on the beach. To get to sandy […] beach, you need to drive a little bit. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and cleaned efficiently. In the lobby is a bar and restaurant called "Don the Beachcomber" which is apparently famous for their Mai Tai's. We had a lot of fun their. There are a number of bars, restaurants, and shops within walking distance. In fact, one night I wanted water, and instead of paying the $3 at the vending machine for an 8 oz bottle, I walked 3 minutes over to the ABC store and bought a much larger one for 99 cents.
