Best Western Cooper's Mill - Cedar Rapids

We had a little trouble finding the hotel, but were very satisfied with everything else about it. Everything was clean and nice-looking, and it was quiet despite the bar crawl that was happening in the lounge. The hotel is right on the river, which provided a nice view, and it was close to a very cute downtown-ish area of town that had several quaint […] coffee shops and stores. We would stay here again! Nice clean rooms with updated linens. Rooms were on the small side but not bad. No breakfast included but there was complentary coffee, fruit and snacks. The pool and hot tub were very nice.

The hotel was ok. Fairly clean - but he had a terrible smell in the room....at first I thought it was a smoking room - but then it smelled more like mold or something. That was probably my only big complaint. Not fond of the surrounding area - but it was close to where we had to be the next day.

Best Western Cooper's Mill was a beautiful hotel with decent amenties and services. My only issue with the hotel is the fact that after staying there for a whole weekend housekeeping did not come by once. We called down to have our room tidied up twice and they just never showed up. Nice quiet Christmas weekend stay. No issues, no trouble. Comfortable, but not the Ritz. Good value for the price. Neighborhood is a little run down and the smell, wow, was awful. But there's lights and we enjoyed a walked downtown in daylight.

Great hotel to stay at if you are looking for a clean, inexpensive overnight stay. The hotel is in downtown Cedar Rapids, so the neighborhood is a bit 'industrial'. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. There was a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Great value for the room rate. Would definetely recommend.

I was transferred after the original hotel was overbooked. Hotel is old and musty smelling. Room service brought me a burned hamburger and a caesar salad with eggs, olives, and tomatoes in it (?). Could hear housekeeping gossiping in the halls in the morning and front desk was slow to answer the phone and rude when I asked to have a late check out. […] Carpet is maroon, bed was gold, curtains another color... hair on the bathroom floor... just an old hotel that I wasn't comfortable in. Very nice hotel... We have never seen a pool on the 2nd floor..Thought that was awesome.. Within walking distance to nite clubs. Had a great stay and would stay again.

This was our second stay. Our first one was better. HVAC wasn't on when we got to room and it was stuffy. We couldn't turn it on to get some air moving. Called the front desk-they have to turn it on when you check in so, all was well after that. Second night we had loud partiers next door who were so loud they kept our dogs barking. My husband confronted […] them at 2am and they quieted down. If they hadn't we would have called the front desk again. We have another stay coming up so we'll give them another chance since our first one was good. Mehr

Knowing the location of this motel, I was skeptical. But, it is rather nice. I think it's been remodeled since the flood a couple years ago. Our room was very nice and clean. Pets allowed. A major plus for us. It's very close to the interstate, but that's about it. A restrauant is on site. Oh, another plus - very quiet. Since it's an older motel, it's […] built better. You don't hear people walking above you, slamming doors, etc. We will stay here for the next home game. Mehr

Overall a good stay. We stayed for 2 nights and housekeeping did not come at all, although we were in the room with a 'do not disturb' sign while they were making their rounds in the morning. Neighboring room was throwing a party making it impossible to sleep, but the front desk handled it very quickly by calling police after first warning the other […] room. Good Hotel with a restaurant connected. Something you don't find much of these days. It's apparent that the hotel is old but it has been kept in great condition. The food at the restaurant was very good and reasonable prices. This was our last night on the road after a 2 week vacation and it was very nice

nice recovery from the floods. new mattresses were fabulous. Restaurant food was good but service a little uneven.

Very n ice. Friendly staff, nice room, nice gym. My only complaint was the lack of complmentary breakfast. More important than the price was the fact that we had to have breakfast in their dinin room which took time and wee were on tight time frame. there were no other options in the area. but overall a very niced hotel.

I also appreciated the work out room, it was small but I was the only one in there and enjoyed working out and watching TV.

Best Western Cooper's Mill is a short walk/stumble to and from downtown Cedar Rapids. Neighborhood around looks a little sketchy (maybe closer to a 3 than 4), but seemed pretty safe overall. If downtown C. Rap. is your destination, this hotel is a good choice.

The pictures and description of th is hotel are very misleading. The restaurant hours were listed until 11pm and when I arrived a little before 9pm it was already closed. I will not be staying here again nor will I be recommending this property to others.

We chose this hotel for its location originally, but were very satisfied with the room and the hot tub in the pool area. Service was pleasant and friendly and check in and out were quick. I thought I had left my camera in the room and called a few hours after check out. They called me back within 15 minutes and an employee had remembered seeing me and […] my husband in the elavator with the camera. After searching again at home I was able to locate it. They handled my phone call very professionally as I was very worried about my camera. We liked that the location is right in downtown Cedar Rapids close to much of the night life entertainment. We ended up at this hotel for a Saturday night stay because all hotels in the Iowa City area were booked. It was OK......a lot further away than I thought, but that's my own fault for not knowing the area. We only had 1 queen size bed, which I've never before seen in a hotel room - usually you get 2 queens or a king. The room was small, but seemed clean. […] Bare bones, nothing special - but the price was low so I really don't feel too bad about it. I wouldn't stay here again mainly because of its proximity to the University of Iowa - it's too far - and the surrounding area is a little scary. Mehr

The Best Western Cooper's Mill hotel was difficult to get to. The road was under construction and was very confusing to get to the entrance. The rooms were a little worn but clean. The elevator smelled like stale cigarette smoke. The lobby was small and bland. Check out clerk was bothered to check me out. I was glad to only be staying one night because […] of a conference. I would not chose this hotel for anything but a one night stay for business. Mehr

We loved the hotel! It was a little to get to but not as bad as I expected. The staff was great and the room was wonderful. The restaurant that is in the motel was had wonderful food and was really priced to fit the budget we had. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks to staff for a great trip.

Trying to get to the hotel was a little confusing because of the one way roads and it kinda looks like it's under the interstate. Also, nothing interesting immediately surrounded the hotel. Upon entering the hotel there was an overwhelming smell similar to that of a dirty wet dog fresh out of the river. The room wasn't too bad, there was a mini fridge […] and all but there was also a pubic hair in the shower which drives me crazy. I know other people stay in those rooms but I like to pretend that I'm the first. I checked out the pool and hot tub and it didn't look terrible but I decided if they can't figure out how to find the horrible smell that filled the lobby then I don't trust their pool cleaning capabilities. Finally I ordered room service and they made me come downstairs for a menu, thus nearly defeating the term room service, then I ordered a meal, a banana split, and a piece of pie. The banana split was completely melted and the oh so smart lady dropping it off said, "Whoever's eating that better get to it quickly it's melting." Derr. The pie was cold and the rest of the food was pretty bad, so unless you want to be severely disappointed do NOT go to the restaurant. Free internet was nice, they didn't need a password. Mehr

The attached bar/restaurant draws the locals in with their cheap tap beer, adding to the noise out the relatively thin window. The highway is close, further adding to the noise inside the room. The room had a mild mildew stench accompanied by a strong chlorine smell in the hallway from the pool. Using the elevator is the only way to the upper floors, […] the stairs are emergency use only. Hotel is right off the freeway, and near downtown. Room was clean, quiet, and comfy, fridge and micro was nice to have. No pool, bummer. The hotel manager wasn't familiar with the hotels.com bed&breakfast option that I bought, but he cooperated. Attached restaurant didn't open until 7am, which wasted my money, since I had to leave earlier than that […] half the time. I could have bought the breakfast pass at the front desk for the same price, only when I needed it. The restaurant staff was cold, sometimes rude, and the coffee was weak. Mehr

Near city centre; close to the Sullivan bank, what I went to Cedar Rapids to see. Helpful staff. Good dinner and cooked breakfast. Phone system worked; only complaint was inopperative coffee making machine but that may be Welsh ignorance of how these things work. Good quality coffee.

My wife and mother-in-law both had allergy problems when staying at this hotel. Other than that, it was a good hotel.

One adult, business travel. Very satisfactory overall. My only complaint would be that the guest information book in the room was out-of-date (restaurant hours listed were incorrect; "Room Service" tab in book was a blank page; one page stated that you would need a special cable to connect to the internet, when, in fact, they offer a wireless connection […] that should work for most laptops). Nice to have refrigerator in room. Convenient, on-site, coin-operated washer and dryer, but there are only one of each, located on top floor of hotel--potential problem if several hotel guests are wanting to do laundry at the same time. Detergent and dryer sheets available for purchase at front desk. Friendly and helpful staff. Mehr

The room had an odor and the lock was defective. We were moved to a nicer room with a working lock.

This was not the experience that I was looking for. The hotel room had a funky smell, and the bathroom was the size of a porta-john. We were woken up from 1am until 6am with noisy hallway and parking lot due to the paper thin doors and windows. Then we were very dissapointed in the breakfast which included frozen muffins and warm milk for cereal.
