Great location. Food good, service poor. Concerned about security and exclusivity when guests requested private company and saw different people in and out of the rooms that were not guests, if I can put it elegantly.

"Beautiful"
I love every morning having breakfast in the courtyard, beautiful orchids blooming, coral stone archways, delicious coffee, service is excellent, always a smile. The beds have white duvet covers which are washed like the sheets, clean and comfortable, tv has English channels, frig, bath with wonderful accessories , high vaulted ceilings, air conditioning. […] And the best wireless Internet I have gotten anywhere. It is a pleasure to stay in a place where the employees love their jobs and love taking care of you with an enthusiastic smile. "Avoid at all cost/go somewhere else"
This hotel was once part of two Sofitel Hotels in the Dom Rep, however once they change to Accord Hotels the place has really detiorated and is know falling a part, the service is non existence the room are duty, you dont get the annemities we once enjoy, like the best creams etc. the pillows are the worse of any hotel I have ever stay at, save your […] money and go else where. Having travelled to the DR many times, this was the first time I stayed at a hotel in the Colonial section. It was a great experience. The hotel staff were friendly and exploring the city on foot was very nice. I would definitely stay here again.
"Hotel is in the heart of the Colonial Zone"
I have stayed here many times always with pleasure. The hotel is one of the nicest and small hotels. The breakfast is always nice and cocktails in the evening in the courtyard is always romantic. It also has a safe parking lot. Try to request a room on the 2nd floor if possible- the rooms on 1st are very small.

Small and very personal, the staff is attentive, friendly and happy. The hotel is beautiful, the many orchids blooming and the old coral stone archways are fabulous. The rooms are special, not run of the mill, all custom white cotton duvee covers and linnens with great square pillows. No cotton/blend here. "Charming but not great."
The check in and out was very fast and the front desk personnel were very attentive. The were few things they should improve: 1.Breakfast wasn't good (they need to get a better Chef, and have more variety. Poor selection and juices taste bad. 2.Service for the breakfast area: it's a buffet, I just saw the waitress once,and never saw him/her again, I […] didn't leave tip, b/c they didn't do anything for me. 3.No iron in the room you have to ask for it. (kind of annoying) 4.They offer Wi-fi and internet, but the PC they have on-site, is old and slow. Good Things: 1.Front Desk service outstanding. (receptionist, bell boy) 2.parking very very good and safe. 3.location (near all the colonial zone area) 4.I got to the hotel late at night and the security service was always alert. I think the hotel is overall ok, good for in and out, but really not great to stay there too long. looks charming.. but if they want to step out and stand out from other hotels in the city, they need to improve what I said above. "Hotel El Frances, una excelente eleccion"
Excelente 4 estrellas , la mejor ubicacion para conocer lo mejor del Santo Domingo colonial, cerca de los monumentos historicos, iglesias, palacetes y edificios historicos,buena gastronomia en los alrededores, pero mejor aun es cenar en el hotel, en su restaurante el Patio. Lo mejor del hotel, su intimidad, ubicacion privilegiada, su gastronomia, comodas […] habitaciones, pero por sobre todo el hotel es una atraccion en si. El personal se mostro cordial. Lo recomiendo y si regreso a Santo Domingo, seguramente ese seria el hotel elegido. Mehr

Mi esposo y yo llevamos yendo desde hace 8 años a este hotel y siempre lo recomendaremos. Muy Romantico y situado en la zona colonial de la republica dominicana. Sencillamente nuestro pequeño secreto :)

"Ravissant mais vraiment trop bruyant"
L'hotel est ravissant, le patio un vrai bonheur, mais vraiment le ménage commence trop tôt sans resperct des chambres lève tard. Comme ces dernières ne sont pas du tout insonorisées c'est très désagréable. Les chambres sur la rue sont finalement plus calmes que celles sur le patio (nous avons eu les deux).
