The stay was pleasant, the reception was good. Unfortunately, the breakfast was not up to par. To benefit from the announced breakfast you have to pre-book, if you don't the hotel will charge 56% more. Of course this was not clearly spelled out at check in.Besides breakfasy was not very generous! one type of cheese and type of salami!

My daughter and I booked the two night break with spa treatments as it was our birthdays within two days of each other! We cannot fault the hotel as the staff were extremely efficient and friendly. However, we felt the spa experience lacked organisation. We had booked treatments but later found that the cost should have been reduced if we were residents […] of the hotel but had paid £30 more! The treatments themselves were amazing but afterwards we were just left in different rooms not knowing where to go next! We had booked lunch as part of the deal, but we left to wander around to find where we had to go and had to go down to reception again to ask. We explained that one of us was unable to have cheese and although the spa receptionist said she would mention it, it was handed to us with the explanation that it was without cheese, but a cheese sauce had to be scraped off the pasta. Disappointing as this was almost a perfect birthday treat! Would come to the hotel again but perhaps give the spa a miss! Mehr

The loo didn't flush, a phone didn't work and the air con was very noisy...so why such a high rating? Because the hotel couldn't do more to help. Without question we were upgraded to a fabulous suite. The staff were lovely, the facilities great and the views spectacular. Being just yards from the Bay area it was exactly what we were looking for in a […] quality hotel. BRILLIANT. The breakfast is a bit pricey though! Mehr

Beautiful views across the bay, friendly staff, particularly those in the bar who were happy to join in a joke or two.

Didn't get a wow from this hotel. Decor was disappointing and not what I was expecting from a 5 star hotel. We declined breakfast as they wanted to charge £18 each, which I think is very expensive. Overall though, the bedroom was very clean and the facilities very good. I'm sure we would have had a good nights sleep if the smoke alarm had not gone off […] at 2.30am in the morning, frightening the life out of me especially as we were on the top floor. I did eventually get a wow and that was from the fantastic view of Cardiff Bay. Mehr

We were very happy to stay at the St David's Hotel and Spa. The room had an awesome view out to Cardiff Bay, and it had an Enormous luxurious bed. One of our best sleeps that we have had on our holiday. Had no issues with the hotel, expcept, that when I went for a bubble bath in the room, the Bath was not clean, I was able to rub off soap scum from […] around the bath with my fingers. You must remember the star system is based on the services a hotel provides and this hotel certainly offers a plethura of additional services. However, like us, if you have no need for dry cleaning or a turn down service you suddenly realise this hotel isn't as 5* as the rating suggests. Our room was a bit grubby, with make up stains on the walls and […] god knows what stains on the carpet. The bath also looked like it could do with a good bleaching. Despite not having the air conditioning on in our room I was awoken at 1am to the unit banging away, I can only conclude it was next doors! I also attempted to put on the heating but needless to say it didnt work...they must be trying to save on those leccy bills as it's a big place to heat. We were travelling as a family, 2 adults and a 3month old and had specifically asked for a travel cot. This never materialised so she ended up sleeping in with us. All in all if you are looking for a well postioned hotel for the bay with a spa facility this is ok but remember it's not of the quality we have come to expect of this star rating. Mehr

Excellent stay, only problem over bank holiday weekend was trying to book another room.... no staff on reservations nor at the Head Office. Cardiff Bay is a great area to stay, close to thriving city, beaches, historical sites and St. Fagan's. Not sure the breakfast for £18.50 was good value but included in the b and b rate.

Excellent visit, restaurant food wonderful and the Cocktails are amazing! Staff are very friendly, made us feel very welcome and were very attentive. Just what I wanted & more from a hotel break.

LOVELY HOTEL IN A VERY GOOD LOCATION

We had a lovely stay in the hotel can't wait to go back,the staff were friendly and helpful , the room had a lovely view .Cardiff Bay is wonderful,and Cardiff is my City where I love to back Home to.

Use if your expectations are low. Room was lovely though... comfortable and nice view. However, understood that rate included breakfast, which was confirmed upon arrival and we swiped credit card for 'extras' 1st drink at the bar... no card registered, cash please! OK, not a massive deal. Arrived for Breakfast, now not included, and after a series of […] language issues with the staff (not welsh!) receievd a 'cooked' breakfast not up to United Kingdom standards. This next part is down to personal taste but I do believe, snobery aside, that baked beans in tomatoe sauce are a vital modern day classic ingredient of any cooked breakfast, this breakfast in particular suffering from this ommission since the lack of moisture in any of the other ingredients only highlighted it. Of course asking for some sauce would help but this arrived with a body attached, hastily spooning it on to my plate where I may not have wanted it. Then I was charged £8 to use the hotel car park! Certainly a 3 star stay in 5 star wrapping. Mehr

Booked two rooms for family of four requesting one double and one twin adjoing rooms for the children given two twins one on the third floor one on the sixth meening the family had to be split co up because the family could not be accommodated as requested. We had a lovely one night stay the room was fab and the room we had was on the 7th floor and had lovely views.

Charming, helpful and knowledgeable staff on reception,as were all other staff we encountered. Impressive atrium on entering the hotel. Excellent spa and attractive public areas. Breakfast good, but not quite five star level. Wonderful views from room over Cardiff Bay development. Parking at the NCP park opposite the hotel, and as close to the entrance […] as the hotel car park, is cheaper for a 24 hour stay. We would certainly use the hotel again. Mehr

We had a Delux King and it was no better than a travel lodge. Room was small and air con didn't work so the room was way to hot to sleep in. In all we had no sleep and it was way below standard for a 4/5 star hotel.

The hotel was very comfortable and the choice at breakfast was very varied and good.The staff were very polite and helpful at all times. The only complaint we had was the charge of £8.00 a night for parking in the hotel car park.The young lady on the desk did refund one night,many thanks for that but still amazed that a five star hotel charges it's […] clients for parking!! We had a really relaxing stay here just before Christmas. The staff were very helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The spa facilities were great and we really liked the seperate lift so you didn't have to walk through reception in your robe!!! The food in the restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was equally good with as much food […] as you wanted. The car parking wasn't an issue as there is a huge pay & display next door to the Hotel car park. All the restaurants and attractions at Cardiff Bay are a short walk away and the views of the bay and beyond are fantastic. We are looking forward to our next visit and would definitely recommend this hotel. Mehr

Nice hotel, but didn't have that special feeling you expect from a 5 star.

In a lovely setting on the bay and ideal for restaurants, walking or the theatre. Whilst we were very satisfied with the hotel room and the excellent spa facilities, we were very disappointed with the quality of the breakfast and the limited space within the dining area.

Beautiful hotel with wonderful views across the bay, whichever room you are in. Approx 10 minute walk to the Bay area where there is an abundance of places to eat. Room ok, but could do with a facelift. The only negative was the gentleman that booked us in. Surly and unattentive is the only way I can describe his manner - not good! Lovely room overlooking the Bay., loved the recliner. The bed was a little on the soft side, and the bathroom fan stayed on all the time, but was deadened by shutting the bathroom door. The pool etc is lovely, especially when it's dark, as it's lit gently by small spotlights. you can lie overlooking the bay. We've stayed here a couple of times, and […] would definitely return. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We've haven't had an evening meal, but if you stay, do try the Spice Merchant (indian) which is very close by, as it's very good, and the service is good. Access to Cardiff centre is easy by bus, or on a good day, it's a nice walk. Mehr

We are delighted to have chosen this hotel. Having never visited Cardiff before, we booked this hotel on the basis of its great photos and reviews. And they were right. We were welcomed by very friendly and helpful reception staff, upgraded to a room with Cardiff Bay views, and absolutely loved the spacious room with its private balcony, huge, comfortable […] bed, IPod dock and charming bathroom. Again welcomed by friendly and helpful staff, our visit to the spa was fantastic and memorable. Large jacuzzi area with submerged loungers, spacious pool with seamless edges, and separate bathing/jacuzzi area with swan neck showers. In all, a fantastic experience. Mehr

Having had the fortunate experience of staying in quite a few 5 star hotels and indeed one 7 star around the world, St. Davids cant be ranked as a 5star. Sure it has a pool and sauna (but no steam room nor shallow end for kids or infants)... The hotel seems to have been designed as an architecural landmark and forgotten about the key service levels. […] Our bathroom had virtually no air extraction or ventilation and had a constant bad smell from the piped and drains, which having to leave the door open the wafted into the room. Then there were no window openings in the room, only a door onto a small balcony and with a 15month old that had to be kept closed. Breakfast - "Average", Premier Inns do equally as good and I would expect a 5 star to offer a menu and not simply a buffet style layout. Having ordered room service one evening the waitress delivering it then couldnt accept a signature (as no credit card had been put on deposit) but neither could accept payment, and i was asked to simply pay at reception whenever. Fine, but at 10.30pm when we're all in bed, room service rings demanding that we pay our bill at reception that night as their till would be out !! Very Disappointing Mehr

The modern design didn't appeal, but we wanted to spoil ourselves in a top class hotel and weren't disappoinetd. The reception although a little clinical (white paint everywhere and a very high atrium), the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was very roomy with everything you would need i.e. tea and coffee (although I noticed there wasn't […] a mini bar). Spacious room with nice quality furniture and furnishings, lovely view over Cardiff bay and all the restarants and bars adjacent to the hotel. The room was in a quiet location which ensured a good nights sleep, in a good quality bed. The bathroom was spacious and well designed with a copious supply of hot water for both the bath and shower, the shower was in fact the best one I've ever used. The restaurant (were we had breakfast) was very pleasant with great views over cardiff bay, the welcome from all the staff was friendly and efficient. The food which was presented buffet style was excellent, unlike some hotels were the food is prepared early in the day and left to dry out, I noticed the food was regularly topped up and replaced. Lots of hot coffee without having to keep asking for more. A minor point but indicative of the attention given, even the butter was soft rather than having just been taken out of the freezer which appears to be the norm. We didn't try the restuarant for dinner as we were visiting friends. On our departure the conciege couldn't do enough even getting our car from the car park for us (Modest charge of £8 per 24 hours for parking. All in all a very pleasant stay, wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending this hotel and look forward to staying there again and using the Spa next time. Mehr

This hotel is clean, friendly and the staff couldn't help enough. The pool and spa is very good also. Location is odd, it's got lovely views and is ideal for Cardiff Bay and the 'new' Cardiff but awkward for the city centre. You are only a short walk fromthe main Torchwood locations and the odd Ianto Jones memorial. A hotel shuttle service to the town […] centre would be smashing. Mehr

A nice piece of luxury - go on spoil yourself

Overall a lovely modern hotel. It was regrettable that there was no way of knowing that the bottle of wine in the room was complimentary. There should have been a card confirming this. Also, there was no booklet with general information about the hotel in the room. It was a matter of asking questions when it could have been easily available. Great hotel in great location, close to cardiff bay, red dragon centre and millenium centre. Take the river bus into city centre. Great places to eat out and about. hotel breakfast excellent..

The hotel is on an enviable spit which allows lovely views over the bay and the food was superb. However, beware of car parking (when there is space) when the public car park next door is much cheaper! The menu for 2 courses is set but allow for at least half as much again of extras for veg etc which aren't included. The so say deluxe room is basic […] and spacious but not what I would call 5* DeLuxe. We would use the hotel because of it's location only but have used other hotels in Cardiff which offer better value by far for the same facilities we needed. Mehr

This hotel is the best in Cardiff. I would 100% recommend it as a place to stay. Favourite part of our stay was Afternoon Tea - 10 out of 10 for service, Yummy cakes and beautifully served tea.

A hotel not to be missed! We had a fantastic time for the 2nd time & will be going back again. The staff are really helpful, food & cocktail list is great!!! The rooms have been lovely & clean.
