I enjoyed my stay at Nob Hill Hotel, although my room was absolutely tiny. I literally had to jump from the entrance hall into the bed and had to lean my suitcase against a wall as there was not enough floor space for it to be placed on the ground. On top of this I had my 6 month old daughter with me and we had requested a crib.. this was in the room, […] but was wedged between the bed and the window and I needed to be in the bed in order to actually put her to bed, or pick her up. The hotel was not busy and I think it would have been a nice gesture to have moved me to another room where my stay would have been much more comfortable. Additionally I learnt that the wall heater in the room was operated through the building and could not be turned off.. this meant for a VERY HOT room in the spring, which was again uncomfortable for myself and my daughter given the heater was next to her crib and we were so boxed in. The toilet also blocked.. the shower had black mould and the fan in the bathroom leaked water. This aside, the hotel itself is well maintained and has a nice rustic feel to it in a great location. Nice victorian style hotel. About 6 city blocks from union square, and china town. trowle station about a block a way if your looking to travel closer to bay area sites like fort mason or pier 39. Also there is a zip car place around the corner if you have a membership. unfortunatly I didn‘t have much time in the city, only there for two days, then […] off to palo alto. which was very easy to get to only had to walk eprox seven blocks to get to bart then transfwr to caltrain at millbre station, point being study the california transfer systems. nice small European style hotel

We decided to stay in town for another day, and found a room here. It's an old-timey hotel with a haunted house vibe. Mystery banging, invisible footsteps. If you are superstitious or paranoid, you might start to see things that aren't there. The staff was friendly, and quick to suggest places to go and things to do. The lobby and the elevator are […] from another era. Tucked behind a regular looking door, I thought it was a closet at first. It has an accordion folding gate, and kind of a rickety ride, but it's pretty cool. Stuff like this just doesn't exist anymore. They also serve complimentary wine in the evening and Continental Breakfast in the morning. We didn't try either of em, but they are available if you like. Our room was tiny, but not without charm. The bathroom was nicer than I expected and keeping the door open made the room feel a little bigger. We didn't see AC (just a fan), but there is a heater running for cold nights. It might've got a little too warm, but we never took the time to figure that out. The one issue is parking. I learned quickly it's best to leave the car at home next time I come to town. Parking is valet only, at $35 a night, and good luck finding anything on your own elsewhere. Maybe I wouldn't have minded so much if we had no complications, but the parking service itself was just awful. We were told 10-15 minutes, but it was always closer to 30 minutes and beyond. The room was really small. Dark and dingy.

There was no hot water in the shower which was extremely irritating as I would have liked to have taken a shower before my 14hr travel day back to the east coast. I will not be staying here again.

Pros: Service was kind and responsive. Bed was comfortable. Room clean. Ironing board and iron provided. Free Wifi. Near downtown and downtown is easily accessible by public transportation. Room rates were reasonable for the area. Had to check out and then go to a meeting midday and valet parking kept my car for no additional fee and hotel kept my bag […] secure while I was gone. Cons: decor of rooms rather garish and gaudy Victorian. You can hear your neighbors in the rooms above you and next to you (talking, doors opening/closing, floor squeaking). Street sounds and in-room refrigerator noisy at night. Curtains don't block light fully so the neon light for the hotel sign right outside the window kept the room bright at night. Complimentary breakfast was sparse (toast, sad looking danishes, coffee, 2 kinds of cereal, orange juice, milk). Found a nick in the paint of driver's side door handle of my car after valet parking returned it to me. Mehr

Location is central, valet parking is available. Hotel Staff is super-friendly, and helpful. They get a 5+. They take care of everything, solved my problems with power socket adapters, warn me to align with local parking rules. When I refused to have the daily cleaning due to urgent work, the cleaning lady politely offered to provide new towels, she […] did and left me in 2 seconds to focus on work. Professional job she did, I was greatful for her quick understanding. Rooms are clean and comfortable. One minus was the included breakfast. Continental shouldn't mean toast and butter only. The other annoying thing is the fire alarm system: sharp, loud voice every time you make a move - even at night. The hotel is very authentic and has great charm! It was located in neighborhood that allowed easy access tithe cable cars and also had lots of restaurants around. If you're looking for a spa like experience, the nob hill hotel wouldn't be what you'd want. It's very old but that was the fun thing about staying there. Everyone was very friendly

The Nob Hill Hotel is an older hotel but its upkeep impressed me. The room was a normal smaller San Fran hotel room but i felt very comfortable. The room was clean and quiet. This hotel has old school charm, from the view from the street to the ancient elevator. We loved it because it was so unique. If you are looking for a quaint, authentic yet clean, safe and secure place in Nob Hill, this is your place. A great price performer.

Not a real gem. Ithe beds were adequate and the staff was excellent, especially the bell hop! That is the end of my praise though. When you arrive, there is no one there to assist with valet parking and there is no room to pull over. This creates a problem and the typical solution is to double park right? Wrong! Within moments the police were at my […] vehicle while I checked in and by the time I walked out to my car the ticket was written and delivered. A warm welcome to the Nob Hill Hotel. Great value for a location atop of Nob Hill. Good access to Union Square and the Cable Cars. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The decor could use some updates, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Simple continental breakfast and an evening wine reception were both appreciated.

smelled like the carpets had gotten wet and were rotting. The bed pillows were not comfortable. Front desk was very nice and decorating was superb, but I left early because of the damp odor of the hotel.

The hotel is in general of low quality and expensive in its kind. The room is not well maintained: old windows, dirt carpet, cracked bath tub. There is no fan in the bathroom and ventilation of the room is not good.

This was a nice, well run hotel. The breakfast was adequate. My room was quite tiny, but I guess that's to be expected in hotels in such city locations. However, the staff was very pleasant. It gave me a good night's rest, but it was not a place that I would spend a whole lot of time doing anything besides sleeping.

If you are snobby and into aesthetics-find another place. For all others, I highly recommend the Nob Hill. It is a good hotel for the price. The room was not large and the carpeting could use replacement but it was compfortable and served the purpose. The room rate came with free continental breakfast (cereal, toast, and fresh fruit) and wireless internet […] from which I was occasionally disconnected. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. The hotel is in a decent neighborhood and within 2 blocks of grocery store, drug store, and a few good restaurants. We had a room at the back of the hotel on the 5th floor and were amazed at how quiet it was. Location was convenient to walk to several places we wanted to go nearby. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Being there on a weekend, we were actually able to find free parking less than 2 blocks away (almost a miracle for San Francisco). Room was small […] but pleasant and sufficient to our needs, with lots of windows and nice decor. Bathroom was immaculate. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. Mehr

Fabulous and quirky hotel in a great location.The staff were all extremely helpful and the evening wine tastings a definite bonus - not only do you get to taste some local wines but a good way to meet other guests too. We would have no hesitation in staying here again and recommending it to friends.

This is an adorable little place. Keep in mind it was built in 1904. Patrick the bellhop was very helpful and courteous as was the concierge on Wednesday night. The woman who worked on Thursday evening was short tempered, rude and my boyfriend had a migraine. she was less than helpful. Overall we loved the place!

the hotel was quite ok, the other stuff no. No fresh items for breakfast, just cereal, bread, orange juice and tea/coffee. Nothing that remotely reminds of a vegetable or fruit. Other thing was the horrible noise. I stayed in room 207 facing the inner garden. The workers were renovating the place untill 6 pm, and i could hardly hear the tv not to mention […] to be able to take nap. Made a complaint when checking out, they saud they were sorry,,, Mehr

Nob Hill Hotel was such a wonderful surprise considering the excellent price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the free wine and cheese upon arrival. The rooms are rather small, but we don't spend much time in our hotel rooms anyway. The bathroom was nice and very clean. The victorian decorations gives the place a very personal touch, […] and it is anything but ordinary. The fitness room was a nice added bonus, as was the continental breakfast. I wouldn't say the hotel is in the best area for visitors, but we had no trouble getting along by foot, public transportation, and taxi. I would definitely recommend to people looking for a good deal. Mehr

Great atmosphere; terrific suite; funky decorations and an overall good place. When checking in had a small problem with time but the desk staff was terrific and accomodating and took care of us extremely well. Definitely recommend.

Very quaint little hotel not too far from many of San Francisco's best attractions. Bathtub/shower needed to be recaulked, but otherwise, the room was great.

The Nob Hill Hotel is a really interesting place. An older building with only a few rooms it has a very boutique feel. You know you're in for something different when you spot the antique "cage" elevator door. The hotel is central and the rooms are clean, if not overly large. The price was very reasonable for a central San Francisco hotel. The California […] Street cable car line is only two blocks away. No air conditioning but hey, it's San Francisco...how hot can it get. Each room does have an oscillating table fan stashed in the closet, and it did the job fine. Very satisfied...I'll be back. Mehr

This little hotel is a hidden jewel. Wonderful eclectic rooms, some huge and some tiny, but all well kept and nicely appointed. I felt like I was back in a small hotel in a city in Italy. The staff was friendly and attentive. They host a complimentary wine and cheese bar in the early evenings in the cute lobby. This was a total nightmare. We had been told room would accommodate 3. Daughter ended up sleeping on floor because it wouldn't. Toilet plugged. Elevator broke. Found contact lens in bath tub. Dirty room. Room very hot and uncomfortable. Very tiny room. This was the worst hotel stay ever. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone!

A quaint hotel situated between Bush and Hyde Streets. About 10-15 from Union Square by walking.. and a couple dollars by cab. The interior is of Victorian style as are the rooms. It is an older building with 6 floors and only 1 elevator.. There is "NO" central air conditioning, but they do provide the room with a fan. The elevator broke down 2 times […] while i was there, but they were able to get it back up and running.. Valet parking is offered, but is cumbersome to use as their is no attendant waiting outside the hotel to assist you.. There is public parking on the next block and available to hotel guest. Overall for the budget minded, this is an alternative. I got my room for cheap and on a holiday weekend. Mehr

Small room, but had a quaint historic flavor to it.

Nob Hill Hotel was a fantastic price for the location. The rooms are very small, but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was actually big. We loved the free wine hour. The continental breakfast was very simple, but whose isn't? The neighborhood was not noisy during our three night stay, and we never felt unsafe. We slept with the windows open due to […] no air conditioning, but it was a nice temperature outside and inside. During SF's warmer months it might be warm inside, but the hotel provided us with a fan in our room. Overall, I loved it. The uniqueness, friendly staff, and did I mention free wine hour daily? Also, don't use their daily valet for parking, there is $20 a day garage around the corner--we got that info from the front desk! Mehr

I was really happy with my stay at the Nob Hill Hotel. It's about 3 blocks away from Union Square which was brilliant for my trip. The hotel is run by one person at a time it seems but then again its a smaller hotel. I was really impressed with the penthouse. The comfort and decor were fab. It was a kind of romantic feeling in the hotel..meaning it […] was very old yet you knew in its hay day it was the place to be...don't do it justice in my description. The hotel is located close to everything that we were interested in seeing/doing for the short time there. Neighborhood a little noisy off the street. We were on third floor--might have been less noise filtering up to a room on 4th or 5th floor. Our room faced the street. The hotel fixtures are quaint, ceiling, walls decorative moldings & trim in nostalgic […] colors & patterns. Bath has marbled floors & tile with new fixtures. Antique look furnishings and plush bedding & drapes give a cozy warmth. Speaking of warmth, in June the heat was blasting in midday making the room a sauna. The desk had housekeeping turn the piped heat system off for our room for the evening and through the night, but the furnace resumed the following morning. The desk staff explained that the city requires the heat be turned on (it's centrally controlled, no room thermostat) for specified hours each day according to season. Hopefully the city will authorize heat reduction in summer! Cute lobby with tiny adjoining cafe. Delightful period pieces,, lighting and art prints in halls. We didn't eat there but might try it on another visit. Continental breakfast consisted of white bread to toast, mass produced danish, cornflakes and fruit loops, jelly and butter, and apples and oranges. Also coffee, juice & tea. We didn't expect to have a minifridge and microwave in the room so that was a pleasant surprise. Good for fresh fruit from markets, yogurt, drinks. Coffeemaker makes one cup at a time but functional. We opted not to use valet parking--just used off street parking around the block during the evening and were out during the day. We enjoyed the quaint and tasteful decor, and found that since we weren't lolling around the hotel, the small overly warm room wasn't a problem for us. Families might want to get a suite, if available, to avoid stepping on the kids. Our room had a small armoire which was sufficient to hold two persons' belongings for an overnight stay. No closet. I booked this hotel without any idea what I was in for and could not have been more pleased. It is straight out of old world Europe with all the modern amenities. The decode was beautiful. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was incredibly CLEAN!! The location is Great!!! Short walk to Trolly to Fisherman's Wharf, and short walk to China […] town. The staff went out of their way to be helpful being that I had never been to San Fransisco. The free breakfast was delicious and the wine at happy was a great extra. Loved this place.
