Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County - Durham

Das Hotel liegt mitten in der Stadt. Die Zimmer sind ruhig und haben eine gute Ausstattung inkl. Bügeleisen und Heißwasserbereiter. Das Mobiliar ist etwas älter. Das Schwimmbecken im Freizeitbereich ist wie der gesamte öffentliche Bereich etwas älter, so wackeln z.B. die Bodenplatten im Schwimmbecken. Der Service war gut, die Mitarbeiter effizient.

A very comfortable hotel but don't eat in the restaurant unless you have a very small appetite or are on expenses! We had to wait a long time for our food to arrive and they had run out of bread!! Itwas not clear on the menu that it was necessery to order vegetables and the fish pie was exeptionally small. The offer of a free sweet was welcomed but […] we still ate out the next evening Mehr

A very well located hotel, central to all the amenities in Durham city, this hotel is also smart and attractive. The room was excellent, and was well cleaned. The only negative was the air con: the room temperature got hot one night, but the air con/ cooling was noisy. Apart from this everything was great. Breakfast was plentiful, with a selection of […] hot and continental style dishes on offer in the buffet; the service was good, although the Sunday morning breakfast was very busy. We didn't eat in the hotel otherwise. Parking can be difficult, as the hotel is popular, and has parties etc. at weekends, but with luck you'll get a space. As Durham is a small city and the hotel is so well placed, you won't need the car again unless you feel the need to leave Durham itself. The leisure and pool complex are a nice and relaxing addition. We stayed at the County Hotel for my sisters wedding and other than the complete lack of parking, the service was fantastic. Unfortunately it all went out of the window at breakfast time. When we went down for breakfast we were seated in a side room for 20 minutes without explanation. When our number was called we were transferred to the dining room […] and asked to help ourselves Sadly there was nothing to help ourselves to. No hot breakfast was left and it had to be replenished twice before we got some! There was very little on offer for cold breakfast, then they ran out of bread for toasting, and butter etc,etc,etc. In the end it took over an hour to have breakfast. A great stay was spoilt by the breakfast service and the lack if explanation as to why the service was so poor. Mehr

Really nice hotel, very clean room and a good breakfast.

Stayed at Marriott for Durham Lumiere festival so perfect city centre location. Welcoming, efficient reception and pleasant room overlooking the street. Attractive leisure complex near the river. A few aspects detracted from generally positive impression - the wi-fi is very over-priced, as are the bar prices. We were also very disappointed not to be […] able to choose to eat breakfast in the main dining room - the alternative self-service bistro setting and food were both very ordinary. A really convenietly located hotel, with great service an comfy roms

1. All staff very courteous and pleasant. 2. I had to report hazardous treads on stairs, ie protruding screwhead on top of step also a loose metal strip on edge of step. 3. Good car parking area.

I have to say that the Mariott Durham was great. The staff were friendly and helpful - a glass of red poured whilst I approached the reception desk. The receptionist saw that I had a sore back and offered to help with my bag. They were efficient polite and couldn't do enough. The room was in good working order and decorated to great standard. In the main I was very satisifed with my stay as I do not usually use the Marriott when on Caterpillar business. It was a team event and many of us stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. I originally booked for 4 nights which I had to reduce to 3 for business reasons, I informed reception of this upon arrival. When I checked out this was challenged as to […] why I was leaving "early". Also my bill showed movies and a charge was requested. I did not even know that you had to put a PIN number in to activate movies, although can conform that movies were active when I first arrived. I did not enjoy the public interrogation when checking out. Integrity is one of Caterpillar's core values and my integrity is high according to my 360 degrees fgeedback from my manager, my team and my peers. Mehr

Me and my partner stayed at the Marriott in August. The hotel is easy to find and in a great location for exploring the sites and shops. the parking is a little disappointing as if you could find a space in the small car park you had to pay at the meter outside the hotel which over the weekend can be expensive. The swimming pool is lovely and very relaxing […] and the rooms are lovely and very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again! Mehr

During a recrnt short break in Durham (very nice place) we stayed at the Marriot which was our first visit to this chain of hotels. Unfortunatley there were problems: List switches in room not configured correctly Dirty grouting and ceiling in bathroom On screen bill ioncorrect as we paid in advance but this daily charge showed on on TV bill. Very dirty […] / stained celing in breakast area sepcifically over toaster. Thsi has obviously been this way for months if not years.. We did complain during the stay and have since been offered a room upgrade shoudl we ever return to Durham within 12 months. Not really satisafory as the liekylhood of that is less than nil. Mehr

Good location, comfortable rooms. But - it was oldfashioned in a bad way - staff were not well trained - all just following a script given to them. Not one was personable. The receptionist was positively unhelpful. General atmosphere of down trodden, poorly presented, almost resentful staff. Breakfast was well cooked, but there was an extraordinary […] division between two dining rooms - We were asked our room number and put in a canteen - noisy, crowded and poorly furnished, while a silver service spacious room which we were not allowed to go into was serving what was presumably higher paying guests !!! The outstanding feature of this hotel which set it apart from others was the friendly high quality service of the staff. We know people in the north are less inhibited than southerners but the natural polite friendliness of the staff, particularly in the restraunts made the stay exceptionally good

Perfect location, room was very comfy if a little hot for a dull day and the spa and pool facilities were fantastic. Staff were very friendly but the car park was a pain!

Our second visit to the Marriott Durham - and once again we were highly delighted with our stay. We enjoyed the use of the leisure facilities also. We would definately stay there again.

We chose this hotel because we saw it was close to the amenities of Durham, and have had good stays at Marriott Hotels before. We were celebrating our Wedding Anniversay while we were there. Marriott didn't disappoint us, had a lovely bowl of fruit and a card from the staff, and flowers which were pre-ordered were absolutely beautiful. Food was excellent, […] and drinks a resonable price for a hotel. Staff were all very friendly, car parking was a bit tight, but concierge always found you a space. Durham is a beautiful city, and the Cathedral absolutely majestic. We will definitely be returning, a lot more for us to see.. Mehr

Very conveniently located hotel. Restaurant is very pleasant and serves good standard food - not easy to find good places to eat in Durham. Bar prices rather high, even for a hotel and no decent beer. Reasonable pub just across the road! Staff efficient and friendly.

Travelled up to attend a friend's wedding at the Castle, which was only aprrox. 10 minutes walk in high heels (my wife). Staff very helpful with any luggage. The room was excellent with a view of the bridge. Excellent buffet breakfast. Cleaned to perfection each day.

I've stayed at the Marriott before and it is very conveniently located. However this time I was in the Riverside rooms which I would not recommend as a) there is no air conditioning which meant the rooms were really hot in spite of the fan and b) there is a constant hum of machinery which I guessed is related to the Leisure Club and Swimming pool on […] the ground floor of this wing. My room was not serviced at all during my stay and I reported this so they simply provided some additional towels. Given what I'd paid and that this is a 4 star hotel, I thought this was very poor Mehr

The hotel has a good central location for visiting the beautiful city of Durham. The rooms are relatively well appointed - nothing that will take your breath away, but equally nothing likely to leave you feeling dissatisfied. The only real drawback id the car parking - I managed to get a space with no problem but I know of many others that were not […] so lucky. Food and drink is expensive, but then you come to expect that with major decent hotels, even though I think that is a disgrace and avoid eating or drinking in them whenever possible!! Mehr

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Great leisure pool for kids to enjoy. Only downside was the meals- very expensive for quality of childrens meals. Also very limited selection of vegetables- definitely not subscribers to the healthy 5-a-day philosophy, as vegetables were only used as garnish, and all others carried a supplement.

Excellent friendly hotel. Centre of town. Thoroughly recommend it.

We had a wonderful nights stay with our 13 year old son, the room was fantastic with 2 double beds, 2 televisions and was very tastefully decorated. The food in the restaurant could be better along with the service at breakfast, but will definately return.

Our room was lovely although it overlooked the carpark, we were in Durham when the weather was hot and our room was like a sauna and had NO air conditioning only a basic plug into th wall small fan. We needed to sleep with our window open and as we overlooked the car park were disturbed every night at around midnight and found it very difficult to go […] back to sleep. The hotel staff at the front desk were not helpful with any of our requests for taxis, changing rooms until I had to become very angry which is not what you want to do on a holiday. There are airconditioned rooms and if you stay here request one. It is a very well located hotel and the rooms are very clean. The breakfast is very dull and again the staff were not very nice to deal with, you the guest were a PAIN AND THEY WOULD RATHER CHAT. Good location just get an airconditioned room and have breakfast elsewhere and it is fine. Mehr

It was good to be able to control the air conditioning in the room. The use of the swimming pool was the icing on the cake.

Fine rom med gode senger og deilig sengetøy. Veldig god restaurant med særdeles hyggelig betjening, deilig tre rettens middag til rimelig pris. Meget god frokost. Super beliggenhet rett ved broen over til sjarmerende gamleby. Grei og rimelig parkering.

L'hotel a été réservé 7 semaines à l'avance pour 3 chambres ,mais malgré ce délai la 3ème chambre attribuée se trouvait dans une annexe qui sentait la peinture fraiche .Les chambres étaient très petites et dépourvues d'endroit pour poser les valises, à part la moquette .Le flexible de douche était cassé et maintenu avec un anneau en plastique(pas très […] pratique pour se doucher).Les critères d'attribution des étoiles ne doivent pas etre les memes dans tous les pays . Bodde her i ett døgn og det var helt utrolig. Servicen var fullstendig upåklagelig. Hotellet er veldig fint med mange bra fasiliteter. Kjempegod mat i restauranten, og den er også billig. Hotellet har også basseng og spaavdelig og dette var kjempefint. Store flotte rom, og senger/puter var perfekte. Anbefales på det varmeste!
