Sheraton Read House Hotel Chattanooga - Chattanooga

The hotel atmosphere was good and the bed, too; however, building not well kept pieces missing from molding, small toiliets, brown stains on wall, cracked tile in the shower location was good, on site Starbuck's was awesome. The staff was really nice. The pool and fitness rooms seemed nice.

Lovely old hotel. I had not stayed there in 30 years. We had a suite and it was very nice. The bed was super comfortable. The only thing I did not like was that the hot tub was just that--no jets. The pool was only 3 feet deep, but one could swim laps. They also have an exercise room.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful location, awesome bed! Our view was of a wall and the valet parking, and no fridge in the room. It was spring break and we didn't realize that So Many young children would be in such a nice hotel, we didn't get to enjoy the pool at all, and it was one reason the chose the Sheraton over the DoubleTree. This was easily my worst lodging experience ever. After reading some of the other reviews, I was expecting a typically excellent Sheraton experience. This hotel was terrible, starting with the smell. A mix of decaying wood and 50+ years of cooked food. I hoped this would stop at the lobby, but getting out of the elevator on the second floor yielded […] not just the musty odor, but a hallway carpet that was puckered, frayed, and needing vacuumed for at least a week. The room followed suit: a leaking window, rotting wall plaster, dirt crusted in the corners of the bathroom, stained carpet, visible water pipes, and stained wallpaper. What made this so bizarre, was resting on and around all of this was very expensive furnishings and bright white bedding. Don't get me wrong, I have stayed in some dives in my life, but not after paying Shertaton rates for it. My conclusion is the 3-5 star ratings HAVE to be bogus. There is a new Double-tree and Marriott in downtown Chattanooga; if you're visiting I would recommend staying there and avoid this place. Mehr

The room was horrible... Water damage on the walls, floor and in the hallway and paint was chipping and the room had a VERY musty order. Choose this property because of the location in relation to the convention center but it was not worth the money the room cost. Asked for another room but the hotel was "sold out" VERY DISSAPPOINTED

There were many, many great things about the Sheraton but we were expecting a little more after reading the descriptions and looking at the pictures. The lobby is definitely gorgeous! The staff was pleasant, and the valet parking was adequate, if a little under-trained in the art of relating to customers (i.e. how to take a tip graciously). The complimentary […] toiletries were excellent, beyond what one normally sees at even very nice hotels: in addition to very nice shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, bar soaps, and moisturizer, there was a little shower puff and a bag containing cotton swabs, cotton balls, and an emery board. The room was a little smaller than we had imagined, but the space was used well. One of the lamps next to the bed did not work, and the only outlets in the room were behind the bed or night stand or under the desk, with the addition of one in the base of the lamp on the desk. This situation made it a little awkward to use the iron. The hook from which the ironing board hung in the closet had very nearly worked its way out of the wall. The iron itself was one of Hamilton Beach's bottom-of-the-line models. That kind of model is expected at the Days Inn, but not at a hotel with a lobby like the one at the Sheraton. We expected something a little more classy from a place with a lobby like the one at the Sheraton. The indoor pool is very nice. It is nice and big with waterfalls at the far end. The spa pool is also nice. We appreciated the isotonic solution in the bath, which means you could lounge in there all day and not get wrinkled. However, the jets were weak and the temperature like a warm bath so that you probably wouldn't want to spend all day in there anyway. It's nice and big as well. The hallways were underwhelming. In general, we had high hopes when we read about the hotel and saw the pictures, and even after having our car valeted and checking-in. I have done a fair amount of travelling & stayed at a variety of different types of places. The Chattanooga Sheraton rates *** The room was clean enough & well equipt. Valet was quick & helpful. In fact, all staff was sufficiently knowledgable & pretty friendly, if somewhat unenthusiastic, but that's part of the anonymity of staying at a hotel chain. […] My only complaint would be that we probably had the worst view available... Which is usually a selling point for me, but we booked last-minute & got a VERY reasonable rate. Comfortable beds & unusually noisy air conditioner (I like white noise though) So, overall very good. I booked thru hotels.com and needed a hotel that accepts small pets. i was not told about the $50 pet fee until i checked in. it was nonrefundable, and so was my booking. i felt taken advantage of. the restaurant had great food, but unfriendly staff

This hotel had the most comfortable bed I have even had the pleasure to sleep in. The service was phenomenal, and the location couldn't be better. We travel to Florida twice a year. We will be staying here again.

A first class hotel with a long pedigree. Stately and historic lobby brings you back to the age of the Grand Hotel. A baby grand welcomes guests who might choose to play. Thankfully, guests of the Read House respect the piano. Well appointed indoor pool and spa room to the rear in the 1961 wing, coupled with an impressive gym room. Porters Steak Room […] is on par with the hotel atmosphere, and can easily hold its own among Chattanooga's highest quality restaurants. Only complaint would be the hot water not functioning properly for the rooms on floor 6. Hopefully mgmt has addressed that issue. Valet parking is a blessing and is staffed round the clock for super convenience. Yes, this hotel offers to take your bags, a service which most hotels in this price range have stopped doing. Impeccably clean and well maintained throughout its historic and contemporary sections. Only issues would be the lack of a visible security man, or doorman at the main entrances to chase off the panhandlers which will pounce the second you step out onto the sidewalk, or to hail a cab for guests. Also, given that the historic lobby contains a beautiful concierge desk, there should be a concierge! What a pity, there is none to assist in sightseeing in beautiful and tourist-friendly Chattanooga! All in all, a very nice stay. Very little effort would be needed to make Read House a perfect experience! Mehr

The Read House is an extremely nice hotel for the price with a beautiful lobby. The rooms were quite nice with a large lay-out including seperate TV viewing area. While the location is not as close the the downtown attractions and restaurants as other hotels, the free electric downtown shuttle picks up right outside. We enjoyed our stay.Price was a little higher than I usually like to pay. Everything is clean everyone was friendly Rooms were plenty large and the bedding was extremely comfortable. Only issue we had was really not much the hotel could do about but every drink machine was either out of order or out of drinks. Got back to room after New Years Cruise […] about 1 am craving a coke and none to be found. But being a special weekend they probably had so many staying that the machines were emptied quicker than usual. Mehr

when they told us they were upgrading us to a suite, we were genuinely surprised and excited.. we had been looking for a short getaway to christmas shop and take in the sites in chattanooga.... unfortunately the room wasnt anything special.. plaster falling off the ceiing.. unprofessianl repairs to the plaster and generally a room that looked like it […] hadnt been used in months or remodeled in years.. dingy and well used.. what irks me most is when you pay top dollar for a room and they charge you for everything to include bottled water.. in a building that old i dont make a habit of drinking the tap water.. the walls were so thin you could hear the family of 12 next door using the bathroom and every word exchanged to include knowing if they were going number one or number two.. disgusting!! this is suppose to be a flagship hotel? the breakfast was thought to be part of being a "starwood preferred guest" and i was dismayed to find o ut that we would be paying for what would turn out to be the worst breakfast i have ever had.. my wife was skiddish by what she saw on the buffet and all the tables that had not been bussed .. so much of the food had been left.. i decided i would try the the 12 dollar buffet and my wife had "oatmeal" there was not one item on the buffet that i had the stomach to take more than a bit or two .. let alone finish.. the eggs tasted like they had been prepared the previous day. .the breakfast meats were just wierd tasting.. the frencht toast couldnt be cut with a knife.. need i go on .. my wife's oatmeal had been on a stove for at least a day.. and it took 30 minutes for them to bring it.. no milk or brown sugar was offered.. just a plain bowl of oatmeal simmered beyond recognition.. I will never set foot inside that hotel again.. and am wondering if i should ever trust my stay to the "starwood preferred guest" plan again.. being charged for parking, water, breakfast.. and all the other amenities.. just leaves you feeling ripped off.. fool me on Mehr

Pay for this hotel only if you want to stay in downtown area. Very close to downtown and free shuttle for those who don't want to walk a mile. Hotel room and other amenities are not worth the amount charged.Valet parking is for $15 per day but street parking is free over weekends (safe and easily available).

The hotel is very conveniently located to the river front. We were there for the Head of the Hooch regatta with our daughter and we were very pleased the area surrounding the hotel was a safe place to walk around in the evenings. The hotel is beautiful. We were upgraded because rooms allocated by our reservation were all booked. The person at the front […] desk very happily offered to upgrade the room. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. I often have challenges sleeping in hotels and this bed was very cozy. Mehr

The hotel was nice and clean so our stay was comfortable. We had reserved a suite but got a regular room. Also, the front desk employees were slow and very uninformed about their city (there was no concierge at the desk for ticket/restaurant info) -- they also seemed put out when I asked questions.

Booked a king bed suite. When got there suites were no longer avaiable, no king beds. Not good.

we were there for our honeymoon and absolutely loved the hotel. it was nice to feel pampered while we were away from home.

I just didn't feel the hotel was worth the money we spent to stay there. The room had definite signs of wear, and the bathroom felt dirty to me - some writing on the walls and odd smears (I'm not sure what they were but they looked disgusting). Also, the starbucks on site was cleaning the floors in the middle of the afternoon, my 3 year old slipped, […] broke her shoe, bruised her leg, and was covered in soapy residue. I called the front desk to complain and all they did was tell me they weren't responsible for the Starbucks in their own hotel. Also, our TV didn't work and they had to send a repairman up at 10 pm to fix it. I guess I just expected something better for the money we spent. Mehr

Check in was slow then we were sent to the wrong elevators which resulted in a 15 minute trek around the hotel with baby and luggage. It took 4 calls to get a crib, three more to get sheets for the crib. The air conditioning does not work in the halls, indoor swimming pool and some other public areas, the unit in our room did not cool enough and quit […] around midnight, we fiddled with it and it resumed a bit later. Our bathroom had no air. The shower heated and cooled by itself. The bed was comfortable, the free internet was good and the hotel is a classic historical building, but it needs some serious upgrading to be a good stay. I would not stay here again. Mehr

Great hotel, grand interior, dark woods and old fashion touches; Arrived earlier than check in time, but at 3p, my room type was not available so we were given an upgrade to a 'junior suite'. Super comfy beds, clean rooms, clean halls, non smoking room that smelt that way. Free electric shuttle stop right outside one of the exits. No free breakfast, […] small indoor pool. renovation gym, so no opinion there. Would stay again. Mehr

Came in for the 3 State 3 Mountain Challenge and the hotel was obviously woefully understaffed for a major downtown event. THERE IS NO SELF PARK AT THIS LOCATION. If you are travelling with a bike, this makes unloading virtually impossible. I was lucky and found a space on the street. The room was wonderful. Everything worked and the bed was comfortable […] and clean. The shower was awesome. Unfortunately, after choosing the hotel BECAUSE it advertised a health spa (and after a 100 mile bike race) the spa was "temporarily out of order," something that would have kept me from booking at all if they had noted it at the time of booking. Also it took literally 42 minutes to get change for the vending machines at 1:00 a.m. because there was ONE employee visibly at work in the entire building, not his fault and I felt sorry for him. Unless you MUST be on Broad there will be better options than this. Mehr

Beautiful historic hotel with excellent staff (Nic) who suggested a restaurant and made a dinner reservation for us. Downtown Chattanooga has many choices within walking distance and plenty of people doing things. Bathroom was a bit small but we coped. The downtown location may not be everyone's choice, but we LOVED our stay.

The bed was very comfortable!!!! The sound in the hallway was a little loud.

The Sheraton Read House in Chattanooga, A 4star Hotel ??? It was disappointing due to the dirty and dusty suite and poor customer service. Dust had settled on the bed pillows, headboard, lamp shades, drapes,and in the floor corners of the bathroom. Due to the dust I sneezed all night and didnt sleep. To top that the bathroom porcelin face bowl had a […] huge "K shape" crack in it! The metal Tub drain stopper was brokend not attached.It was gross! I calmly and politely spoke with the night and morning managers and they both where nonchalant, and uncaring and rude. The Staff and House keeping, and Room Maintenance should be trained or relpaced. Sheraton has a good feel when you walk in. Great presence. Make sure you park across the street at the $3 lot vs $15 valet. As well, the steak house within the hotel is a good choice, but a little over priced. Last, there's a city shuttle that takes you further into town, so no need to drive unless you're taking an excursion. Have fun!

It was a great place and very convenient to everything we wanted to do. The Porter restaurant on the property, had great food. I remmend it to anyone.

The hotel room was excellent, $15.00 for parking was a little high for the customers. Rooms were clean, staff was little rude. The lady's at the hospitality room on the 10th floor were rude, specially the ones for breakfast. The girlfriend and I decided to come to Chattanooga for a night. I am usually a cheap hotel person, but I was aiming to impress and have a romantic stay together. The hotel did just that. The lobby was beautiful and had an old style feel to it. The staff was very nice and they even upgraded me to a suite. The room was big and the bed was probably the […] most comfortable bed I have slept on. The pillows just sank in when I laid down. It was very hard to even get out of the bed in the morning. It is located walking distance from most of the down town attractions. If ever I come to Chattanooga again, I will definately be staying at the Sheraton. Mehr

The hotel itself is very nice, the rooms were comfortable and updated, the lobby was clean and provided a nice atmosphere. All the staff I encountered was friendly especialy the front desk and the valets. My ony concern was the large number of homeless people I saw around the hotel all hours of the day. Not to say that they were menacing but made me […] uneasy watching us unload the car etc. I thought surely the once inside the building that my concerns would be alleviated, however on numerous occassions I found homeless wondering around the lobby, which would have greatly concerned me had I been traveling with my family. Not only did it take 10 min to find our room and was not told the hotel had 2 parts we were charged for Parking!! Hello we are paying guests. Also the room was very small for the price. When we would call the front desk for something they acted like they did not know what they were doing. Also my room view was a brick wall. The valet driver broke a […] piece off of my shifter knob and did not tell us yet we have to pay for parking. I will never stay at that hotel again. Mehr

This was the second time we stayed at the Read House for my wife's birthday. We were upgraded to a suite for this reason and were very pleasantly surprised. We will be back in the future. The only thing we saw as an inconvenience was the valet parking. We had to pay an extra fifteen dollars a day, along with numerous tips to have our vehicle parked […] outside on the street anyway. Plus we did not have access to our vehicle if we needed something. Altogether, we had an amazing experience and will return. Mehr
