This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. 3 at a 4 star price. We had to ask for toilet paper and Kleenex. On the Kleenex they said there wasn't any until the next day. What they gave us was squares of paper, not anything I have seen called Kleenex. The breakfast servers were wonderful! Cheerful and helpful. The rest of the staff could not be bothered. […] The hotel was recently bought by another chain. Hopefully they will get it together. The location is awesome! Near the castle and in the old part of town. Walk to the train station and lots of restaurants. Mehr

We arrived early and were able to park the car while away visiting the city. The concierge was very friendly and gave great directions to our destination. The hotel itself is full of character and all staff are very attentive and well trained. On arrival home I realised I'd left an iPod behind and was able to contact reception. The receptionist told […] me she would contact housekeeping and was able to confirm within an hour it had been located and posted it to me a few days later. Thanks a lot. Mehr

Entrance of the main street very tatty, stairs and carpet have white paint marks and the view from the room was not great.

This was a comfortable hotel, we stayed for one night whilst doing a tour of Scotland. The breakfast was very good and the lady with dark hair who welcomed us to our table was very friendly. Would definately stay again.

We enjoyed a long weekend stay and used the warm swimming pool/sauna etc.. every day. Cheap taxis to get to anywhere in the town, we are not fit enough for the steep hills of Stirling! Quiet location in an old school which gave a unique feel to the building. The best of the whole visit was the dinning experience with excellent, well trained, attentive, […] polite staff. The breakfast spread was second to none and the evening meals were so good we never even considered eating anywhere else. All in all a wonderful stay. Mehr

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. Convenient location and free parking. Our room was good size, but they could pay more attention on cleanliness. Leisure centre was nice. Overall ok hotel, but I would only give 3 stars, not 4.

Great hotel have been a number of times now, would recommend, however for the first time I found the bed the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in , would say the mattress could be doing with being replaced.

Reception staff not terribly efficient. Alloted us room already occupied and didnt deliver sunday paper which was ordered. Bar drinks very expensive.

On arrival the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Resturant staff polite. Choice of food at breakfast meant no one would go hungry. The location is walking distance of the shops and Stirling castle. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much and would reccomend it to anyone.

Overall, a very positive experience. The upsides: nice staff, clean rooms, nice selection of TV-channels, good swimming facilities, and very good location. The downsides: no free Internet, and check-out at 11am.

quite difficult to find without a sat nav! the hotel is the old High School so the parking is in a large enclosed area in the middle of a quadrangle. Very convenient for the castle which is well worth a visit

could not fault any aspect of this well placed hotel. good food nice staff.

The waiter poured the white wine into red wine glasses, so for the main course we had to request new red wine glasses (the white had been filled with water). We waited 10 minutes for clean glasses, by which time we had finished the main course; we had to ask three separate times; most disappointing. We ordered pheasant, and ended up with meat that tasted […] like pork. We have stayed at this hotel seven times in the past; never again. Mehr

The hotel is in a great position to walk to the Castle and town. You can park the car and just walk. The room was clean and comfortable but very noisy. You could hear every step and voice outside and above the room.

Arrived at 11 on the off chance we might be able to check in early - we could have - but would cost us £20, so didn't bother. Room was clean and quiet - decor was fairly average and have seen better 4 star rooms. Bathroom was 'tired', shower needed re-grouting. Didn't eat in hotel in evening so can't comment but was put off by other reviews.....Breakfast […] was fine, but staff were not exactly enthusiastic and seemed to lack the presence I'd expect for a 4 star hotel. Pool was again okay - a bit tired and in need of a paint in some bits. Overall, it was just okay and I probably wouldn't rush back. Mehr

Great staff, very helpfull, good rooms, hotel with architectural interest and history. Only a couple of moans,room hot windows dont open fully,breakfast very greasy and some areas need a face lift.

I'd recommend this hotel with the warning that that walls are exceptionally thin. Every little noise from my neighbors or in the courtyard could be heard making it challenging to get some rest.

Nice hotel, rooms are lovely although the service was a little lax with the bar food menu being over priced for lunch.

Very nice hotel. Pleasant, helpful staff and quality room, even a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Well located for historic parts of Stirling including the castle & jail etc. Be warned it is on a steep hill if you plan to walk anywhere from the hotel. The only negative for the hotel is the long-term building work at a nearby hotel which is […] not noisy but does detract slightly from the beautiful views. Mehr

Good size room especially considering price. Friendly, professional service. Not too impressed with Stirling itself but generally happy with the hotel. The spa was partially out of service on our visit, in fact we could only use the swimming pool.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel is full of history and has a lovely dining area and the staff are very helpful!

We had a lovely stay. The hotel is very comfortable and still has the feel of the old school that it was. Only one request I would have is that there would be more light supplied in the bedroom as the lighting was very dim for reading. otherwise staff were very helpful and the breakfast we had was really good with plenty of everything from fresh fruit […] to cooked breakfast. I have stayed at the Barcelo previously when working in Stirling and it is always one to check out first if the price is right. I have been put off a few times as it can be expensive when booking online. Some operators seem to have cheaper deals for the Barcelo so its worth searching. The hotel itself is very nice, the rooms I have stayed in are clean […] and spacious and its location is good for Stirling town centre and the Castle. It can be a long walk up the hill after a meal and a few beers though. Overall I would recommend it if you can get it at the right price. Mehr

This is a very nice hotel, with really friendly staff, lovely food and some of the nicest cocktails I've ever had the pleasure of sampling. The building has real presence, there's a superb pool/sauna/steam room/Jacuzzi complex on-site and Stirling town centre is just a two-minute walk down a picturesque street. However, food and drink is very expensive, […] and the rooms (although nice) could do with a bit of updating. The bathrooms are especially poor, considering the mould around the low-hanging shower head and the badly discoloured grouting in our particular en-suite. You certainly won't be disappointed if you stay here, and the staff will do their best to ensure you have a good holiday, but it's probably not worth paying full price. Mehr

We hit the Barcelo in Stirling during a three week vacation, during which we stayed in 8 different hotels, all of them roughly of the same price/quality. Nearly all of them had free wifi (at the very least, in the lobby), or had reasonable hourly or nightly rates to connect. The Barcelo uses Swisscom -- and the packages are *outrageous* -- this review […] won't let me include "specific rates" -- but it was higher than I've seen in years of hefty business and leisure travel. Never seen anything like it. If you're coming here with a need to check your email, you'd better be ready to back up the truck. Nice hotels don't rob their customers for internet access anymore. Barcelo: At least put some free wifi in your lobby! Don't recommend, will never stay at one of the chain's properties again. Mehr

the barcelo stirling was in an ideal location central for all our needs, shopping, sight seeing, eating,out, hotel was clean and tidy and our room was just perfect. staff friendly and welcoming, the only draw back i could see was the price of the evening menu very expensive for what was on offer, we ate out during our visit each night. all in all a […] great and relaxing couple of days. Booked two rooms for a single night at the last minute for the Stirling Highland. Our trip had a little flexibility and fortunately the hotel did as well. I can't say enough about the location. It really is right on the edge of everything in Sterling (most of it is well within walking distance). Unfortunately, location alone doesn't quite justify the […] rate. Granted, we didn't spend enough time there to make use of the additional benefits, but the room conditions were just not worthy of a 3 or 4 star facility. This hotel is overpriced and overrated. The rooms were small, service only fair, and the food mediocre. It is, in short, far less than it claims to be.

The Barcelo is very conveniently situated, has a good car park and is extremely comfortable. The only drawback is the breakfast. This was not included in the price, but we weren't tempted to buy breakfast because of the limited range of items on offer. Otherwise, a great hotel.

The hotel is a converted 19th. century private school building with 21st. centuary appointments and service.
