to have this hotel representing their brand. The facility if long past needing refurbishment and the staff amateur. The toilet in my room worked, just not very well, and flushing was not a pleasent experience. When I checked in I asked if there was free internet (I am a HHonors member so this is common). The answer was a cheerful yes. After going to […] my room and trying to connect I kept getting asked for a password. There was no documentation in the room with a password so I went to the front desk to ask. The same cheerful lady told me I needed a password. I may be wrong but the fact that I asked about internet access should have been a clue that I was going to need a password. On to the resturant. I am not the slimest person in the world but I have never taken that for an excuse to dress like a slob. That is exactly what most of the wait staff looked like, slobs. The reason was a staff of women in what looked like ill fitting mens shirts with ties all askew. Those wearing white jackets seemed to be buldging out of them. This is not the fault of the staff but of the management. It shows how little they care about the presention of their staff. One size, small, fits all. When our food came they brought me the wrong main course. Normally I would not worry about that as mistakes can happen. However, due to their bread rationing system a waitress brought around the rolls and issued them as requested. On the second visit the others said they did not want any more and I said "yes please". She then turned and walked away without serving me a roll. The two incidents together shows that their dress, their listening skills and their attitude are equally sloppy. There is more. I stopped off for a drink at the bar on the way to my room. The gentleman ahead of me asked for a glass of warm milk. This appeared to be an absolutly shocking request. Not a bad hotel, although they did charge us twice for staying. Also they allow Dogs, which, although I'm a Dog lover, isn't that good when a not so friendly one growls at you!!!

The Hilton Hotel Newport, is a good hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. We were bit worried about staying there based on the reviews we had read before our stay but I am please to say that we throughly enjoyed our stay. I would say that are couple of improvements to be made i.e. the lighting in the rooms is not good and could do with bit more […] friuit variety for breakfast. Mehr

It is obvious that the hotel needs updating but don't let that put you off. The staff are very polite and look after you well, the food was really good and the pool was great for the children. The bed was awful though, very uncomfortable. Had we been staying longer than the 1 night then I would probably have asked to move rooms but it was ok for the […] price. Mehr

We stayed in a beautiful family room for one night. There were two double beds very comfortable And the room was not noisy at all. We really enjoyed our stay and we will come again.

I thought that staying in a Hilton guaranteed a level of luxury, how I was wrong! The room was in despirate need of improvement. There were scuff marks all over the walls, very dirty bathroom, the telephone didnt work, the carpet was dirty and stained. They seem to charge for everything they can on top of the price you pay for the room. I wasn't interested […] in breakfast but was asked as soon as I checked in. Wireless access is charged at £15 and I was charged £3 for parking when I checked out, this was not mentioned when I checked in. If you need to book a hotel in the cardiff area, do not book this one. This hotel is a short distance from the well known Celtic Manor Resort. The Hilton offers much cheaper rates than the Celtic Manor but the option to eat at the resort is there if you want it. The staff at the Hilton were very polite and nothing was too much trouble. The gym, swimming pool and sauna were good and free to use as a resident. We had a full […] breakfast there which was excellent, again well tended to by young but very helpful staff. Mehr

I should have been informed when booking that the main restaurant would be closed due to a large function taking place in the restaurant. This inhibited my choice of dining which was important as I was entertaining a young relative. It would be useful if this information was made available before confirming a booking.

This hotel was very nice and the room very spacious!! The health club was nice and very nice pool. It did say online that you could walk to city centre !! that was not the case, the centre was at least 5 mile away !! only complaint i have is our bath was very dirty and hoping it would be cleaned next day , it wasnt !! and our glasses hadnt been washed […] !! the housekeeping really lets this hotel down. The hotel was ideally suited for our needs, we were visiting Swansea University for an open day and the Hilton Newport was ideally situated just off of the motoerway to allow us to break our journey have a good meal and decent sleep and then continue on our way.

The lighting of the room and some other areas of the hotel was poor and we had to ask for portable lights to be providedto enable us to read in bed.and other areas of the room. Prices caharged foe supply of food and drinks were probitive compared to many other htels we have used in the past

Decent hotel for the odd couple of nights.

We were all looking forward to are stay at the hilton. We were disapionted by the poor state of the room ( mould, dirty, strange smell in the bathroom).This hotel is due a good overhall. Has put me off Hilton brand. Good base to explore surrounding area.

Hotel comfortable enough. Staff friendly and common area well kept. However I cannot believe a suburban hotel charges for car parking. Three pounds a day doesnt sound like much but it can be a pain for business stays as its not included in any prepayment.

As a family of 5 we stayed here on our way to a weeks stay in Wales, Cannot fault the hotel , staff were extremely friendly and great with the children , even the colouring competiition they had was great (my son did win mind ) which did make the stay even more exciting for him , Brilliant food in the restaurant too ,didnt use other facilities like […] pool or gym so cannt comment , Very happy and pleased overall Mehr

We stayed one night at the Hilton Newport and were extremely satisfied. We are a family of four with our children being quite young and we had a big family room that could fit us all in very comfortably. We used the hotel as we were attending a wedding and they were more than happy to let us check in early so that we wouldn't miss the wedding. The room […] was clean and tidy and the hotel is very accessible from the motorway and easy to find. Our breakfast was included in the price and there was something available for everyone. Our son thought all his birdthdays had come at once! The staff were very friendly and more than happy to help. The only critisisms I have is that we had to pay for parking and there is no free Wifi. It is £3 per 15 mins from a machine in the lobby so depending on what you need it for it could get quite expensive. Overall we were very happy with our stay. Mehr

Very good hotel, clean and comfortable and service excellent - i would higly recommend this hotel

Really quite disappointing compared with other Hilton's. There were pubic hairs in the bathroom and we were offered a 'deep clean' of the bathroom, but on our insistance we were moved to another room. The staff were pleasant helpful and polite - they were the best feature of the hotel. Our parking fee was also scrapped in light of the inconvenience. […] This room was ok, but could do with a proper clean, it was a bit tired and there was a hole in one of the bed sheets. The prices in the bar and restaurant were extortionate - a £24 bottle of wine cost us £6 in Newport town centre. Mehr

I am writing to express my serious dissatisfaction with your hotel during a recent stay between the 21st and 24th of July while attending a wedding at the Celtic Manor Resort. Although I could have stayed at the Celtic Manor for not much more money than the Hilton, having never been to Newport before and having been assured by the girl at reception […] that it was “just across the road” from the Celtic Manor and that “you could walk to it from the Hilton”, I decided to book this stay for 3 nights. Since I have stayed at a number of Hilton hotels with very high levels of service (e.g. Nairobi, Kenya; New Jersey, USA), I was confident that I would have a comfortable stay at the Hilton Newport. Having experienced these 3 days at your hotel, I can now safely say that I will NEVER stay at a Hilton again! Let me list the problems that I had at your hotel: 1. The Hilton Newport hotel is NOT “across the road” from the Celtic Manor by any stretch of the imagination. And you most certainly CANNOT walk to the Celtic Manor from your hotel. To be told that you can is a blatant lie! I tried doing this and ended up walking on a motorway with cars whizzing by before deciding to turn back, return to the Hilton and order a taxi. Your staff need to be explicitly aware of this for future customers. 2. I was initially given a room on the ground floor where the TV remote and the telephone did not work. Also, the tiles in the bathroom were horrible and looked dirty and the sofa was so filthy that I could not bear to sit on it! Since I was away attending a wedding for much of the time, all this was not too serious. Much more serious, however, was how noisy the people staying there were at night. Thursday night had late returning residents who were somewhat noisy but on Friday night, some residents across from me arrived at 4.30 am and there was knocking on doors, people talking, doors opening and closing non-stop until 6 am! This hotel entrance and restaurant are clean and nice. We had a family room for a very good price via Hotels.com. However the hotel room could do with a refurbishment. The room we had had clearly not been booked in a while as there were spider webs and dust. The shower was rubish. Also internet is not complimentary. Finally breakfast wasn't great for […] a Hilton and for the price £15. Good variety of choices on offer but quality of food needs some improvement. Employees were really nice. Mehr

This is a hotel which is showing its age. The rooms and bathrooms are in need of re-decoration. The tv remote did not work and there was no plug socket near the desk for my laptop. Be aware that if you get a good price for the hotel it will not include: car parking, wifi or breakfast. I ended up paying an extra twenty five pounds for these 'luxuries' […] which at other hotels you would normally expect to be included in the price. Wearily arriving at 1.30am after motorways delays, have travelled for five hours, my eight-year old son and I were shown the utmost courtesy. The very professional receptionist fully explained where our room was, added a complimentary breakfast (we had forgotten to book one) and pointed out that we could use the swimming pool from 9am. The room was […] comfortable and clean and as a bonus we got to see Lewis Hamilton's 2008 F1 car which was on display in the reception area. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel again especially as we paid about half the Hilton website rate using Hotels.com. Mehr

Convenient for the M4 and Newport City Centre. Staff were very helpfull and friendly, swimming in the pool after a night out on the town is guaranteed to clear your head!

It was as stated only 17 minutes from Newport and only 2minutes from the M4. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the leisure facilities are very good,Will use hotel again when next in Newport

Had a great stay so easy to get to and from and also easy to get to Cardiff. Staff were very nice at breakfast as well

Good value stay, Good contract Taxi support to the hotel. Rooms let down badkly by the sub standard condition of the Bathroom, very tired & needs refurbishment. Used Hotel for Meal on first night & good value & quality. Would recommend to others.

unfortunately, the hotel is in awful stage and a guest can have some horrible atractions such as mould on the windows which is actually unhealthy. Wen we informed about that the manager we were given another room immediately but still horrible experience. not recommended.

Great hotel - in particular, the staff are fantastic.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and the location suited us for visiting friends in Newport and going into Cardiff. However, the hotel rooms need a serious make-over as the carpets and bathrooms are quite shabby. I would go back again if I managed to get the half price room deal again, but at full price, no thank you.

We stopped over on the way from London to Devon. It was slightly out of the way but worth the reduction in rate. Very clean, friendly staff, nice large room, all in all very happy

the stay was fine for business, but the cleaning staff were noisy for 7am, and knocked on the roon for cleaning at 8am - which if I was there for leisure purposes would be annoying. The checkout was slow - sue to one computer working- but on the whole the staff are excellent - if only the cleaning staff can be quieter with their jokes and personal info […] - which we don't want to hear Mehr

Check-in staff very friendly and allowed us early check-in. Very good first impression. room clean and comfortable and a very good breakfast. I'd definately stay here again

Bathroom floor needed a good clean, the light in the bathroom didn't work and a loud wedding party went on until 1pm (not what you need on a relaxing night away!). We rang reception twice but were told it would be turned down... it wasn't. We were specifically told at reception breakfast was included in the room deal so we came down at the advised time […] only to be told the receptionist got it wrong and we'd have to pay £40! I eat like a sparrow.... so that was a no. Then on the Sunday, the whole pool and gym were closed!! We didn't get a chance to use any of it. We had no warning of the large wedding taking place or the spa facilities being closed (we only chose it for the pool!) Reception area is lovely but everything else was really disappointing. Won't be adding to Paris Hilton's inheritance fund any time again soon.... Mehr

we found the hotel room excellent except for traffic noise which is not prevented by closing windows .breakfrast was plentiful and very good .also excellent leisure facilities. we enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return in the future

I would give the hotel a 3* rating and was ok value for money. The bathroom was a bit 'dated' but everything worked ok and was very clean.
