The beds here are actually comfortable (although the pillows are not) and I LOVED the fireplace in our room, which could be turned on or off via flipping a wall switch. Wonderful ambience, huge lawn for walking dog (they provide cleanup bags at outdoor disposal stations), and loads of parking.

Room was very town and country feeling, clean, comfortable bed and good sized bathroom. Hotel staff was nice and an awesome buffet breakfast in the dining room is available in the morning!

The facility is beautiful and so was our room however upon getting in bed i felt something crawl on my legs and thus jumped out of bed. Upon jumping out and turning the lights on there was a HUGE spider. My wife and I thought that was it and so we didnt make a big deal and went back to bed. Within a few minutes later I felt another creepy crawler this […] time it was an adult centipede. At that point my wife thre off all the bed sheets and called service. Basically they apologized and gave us a coupon for a buffet breafast the next morning. We came down from Ct for a break on top of that my wife is 6 months pregnant they did nothing else other than change the linens and vacuum the room. Insulting yes organized I dont know but I will say the fact that no one called or emailed us after reallly left a bad taste in my mouth as we would've possibly considered giving them another try. The fact that they weren't professional enough to initiate a follow up after our stay or anything else while we were there informed me that this was not a place we ought to return to. Mehr

beds are way tooooo soft!

We were quoted a 1 bedroom suite thru hotels.com - but when we arrived - we were placed in a room with a king side bed. Being that we have two infants - we specifically needed a separate bedroom for one of the kids so that they don't wake each other at night. In the end we were given a room that was connected to another room, and that worked out fine. Too […] bad we had to wait 4 hours for the room to be ready - as we arrived at the hotel around 12 noon. we also had to call and request the pac and play three times, but we got it before the kids had to go to sleep. Nice pool and gym facilities. Overall very well maintained and clean. Will definitely return

This hotel is amazing! We are a young family from NYC and we have stayed in this hotel for the entire week. The rooms are very spacious and extremely clean, the staff is very nice and makes your stay incredible here! We highly recommend this to anyone, looking for a nice getaway from a busy city or just to relax in their spa!

A great place to stay with an outstanding staff, garden views, poolside service and restaurant. The only reason I marked them low for condition of the hotel is that the bathrooms need to be redone. But it is only a minor glitch in an otherwise wonderful hotel. Especially for the price!

Fiance and I were looking for a relaxing weekend, were delighted to find that and so much more. The grounds are beautiful, amenities amazing and pleasant /accommodating staff. In fact we loved it so much that we spoke to a wedding coordinator on site.

We stayed memorial weekend in a queen room and the roof was very quaint and cute!!! Our stay was very enjoyable, we had lots of R&R by the pool. We would recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

The mattresses are old and springy. My back still hurts. Also, I was disappointed that when I ordered pancakes for my son, based on the menu that said "maple syrup" would be served with them. Actually, a small cup, with no label was sent, which I poured on my son's breakfast only to discover that it was not maple syrup at all, but some other kind of […] sugar syrup which probably had high fructose corn syrup or something in it. That was bad. A espresso machine would not be a bad idea by the way. Otherwise, the staff was quite pleasant and the lobby area etc were quite beautiful. Mehr

It was our first visit to your hotel. We were very impressed with the layout, the amenities and the extremely friendly and courteous staff. We could not have asked for anything better except one more shuttle pickup between 2 and 7 PM. Other than that, we are definitely planning to return to the hotel next year if not sooner.

I stayed here for 2 nights and this was my first visit. I really enjoyed staying here the room was really clean. The bed was really really comfortable and the French interior gives a cozy feel. The moment I walked in the room I fell in love with it. The resort has a nice pool and spa service which is not very highly priced. It has its own restaurant, […] pub and a bakery which was empty all the time I saw it. I went to the bakery but muffins were not fresh. Its good thought that all the fast food restaurants are near by so in that way the location is really good. Its just 15 minutes from the Virgina beach so you can pay less for nice stay and still be at the beach all the time. The price for the room was worth it. Mehr

Great hotel. We stayed for two nights with three young children. Very nice indoor and outdoor pools entertained the kids for hours. All the staff members, from front desk to housekeeping to restaurant, are extremely nice and attentive. Food in restaurant was also good. Only drawback of whole experience is that the air conditioner would loudly turn on […] and off throughout the night, waking me up. I eventually turned it off permanently at night and it turned out we didn't miss it because the room still remained rather cool. All in all, we were very pleased and would come back again. Mehr

Would NOT stay again we went there to have a relaxing time , but we were forced to go out of the hotel( after a5 hour drive)l because the restaurant was taken by a wedding party! Also the outside pool was closed so it was very disappointing .the only food available was from the bar (not very good) the whole thing is overrated!!!

We recently stayed at the Founders Inn for a long weekend. (Parents, with two teen-aged kids and a dog. ) The room was very nice, average size, huge HD flat screen TV, !bonus!, and furnishings were pretty. Room was clean. We got extra towels as needed. Mattress was great. No bedbugs, we checked! lol. Quiet, could not hear the neighbors. No door key […] issues, either. Pool was great, very large, shallow, deluxe design, with a separate water slide pool. They give you pool towels, which is very nice. BBQ lunches poolside available on weekends. There is also a weight room and spa. We didn't use these, but it looked very nice. Friday is free family movie night for the younger kids. We even brought our small dog with, great walking area set up, including bags and disposal. Pet deposit was steep, significantly more than was disclosed on the hotelsdotcom website, but fully refundable, and you get a nice room in building 4. Worked out well for us. Dog friendly hotel, for sure. Grounds are quite lovely, groomed, many weddings held there on the weekends. Lobby is lovely, and the ballroom is great. Waffle House is across the street, so we did not eat at the restaurant at the hotel. The room service menu looked good, and the prices seemed reasonable. We booked this on a great half-price special, and I would pay full price to stay here again. It would be a bargain, even at full price. Mehr

place is old school, but lovely. Has a pond in back of place but they do not allow fishing. Otherwise I enjoyed my stay.

close to shopping, restaurants. Beautiful grounds with a pool, pond,and English type garden behind the main building. Did not have time to use the spa services, although would have liked to try them. Front desk personnel were delightfult. Have stayed here previously and would stay again!

Hotel surroundings excellent. Hotel has great amenities but maintenance staff needs to do better.

The hotel is located nowhere near the main amenities of the area, but it is great. The rooms are spacious and the restaurant serves amazing food. Personnel is very friendly and helpful. In spring and summer the garden, the pool and the lake are a perfect setting for relaxing and enjoying the day.

Overall this is a highly recommended place to stay and we will definitely book the same hotel when we travel to the area. Will recommend this hotel to everyone. We liked everything except for the mattress which was leaning on one side. (please note that we are certain that with the quality of service this hotel provides, if we would have addressed this […] issue, they would have handled this matter quickly to our satisfaction) Mehr

The Founders Inn was great, but I think it is a little over priced based on location. We had the colonial king room with fireplace. It's about 20 minutes off the beach, but easily accessible from a major highway to get there. Plenty of restaurants nearby. The property is beautiful and includes a path to walk around a lake filled with wildlife. The staff […] was exceptional and friendly. The bed was amazing, I slept like a rock. It was definitely a quiet location and provides plentiful amenities. We had a 50-minute massage at the spa and it was amazing!!!!! Absolutely recommend this. Didn't have dinner in the restaurants, so no comment on that. They did offer free cookies and milk at 7pm but we were not around during that time. Overall, if you're looking for a nice romantic weekend get away, I would recommend Founders Inn. Mehr

It's a great place where to stay. Most comfortable room ever, beautiful landscape right out of the window and the restaurant is simply delicious. Once you check in you will not want to leave the place, we didn't for the entire weekend. Highly recommended even if you don't plan to use the spa.

Hotel.com had a reduced rate on this hotel and it was a very good deal for the niceness of the inn. Everyone was very friendly from the moment I got there. I was visiting my sister and it was one of the only hotels in the Regent area everything else was a bit further away. The fitness center was very nice compared to other places I have stayed. I wish […] they included some sort of breakfast for how much you pay for the room but they rely on their room service and 2 restuarants for that. The website said their rooms were soundproof and I would believe it I never heard a peep from anyone. Also check out is at noon which gave me plenty of time to pack up all my stuff and get going. The only problem I had was actually opening the door to the room. The first time I had to have someone help me but after that I kind of got the hang of it. If you want to stay someplace nice and quiet and you can find a decent price I would suggest the Founders Inn! Mehr

Loved the experience...a refreshing break from a cookie cutter hotel :) Very clean and a beautiful place.

A wonderful place to stay. Great winter stop b/c they have a heated indoor pool and hot tub. Their Sunday brunch is also worth the time and money.

This hotel was elegant and comfortable. Wonderful amenities like a well-equipped workout room, indoor and outdoor pools, spa, and restaurants. Iy is conveniently located for seeing sights in and around Virginia Beach, Norfolk nad surrounding areas. The room was exceptional in its decor, cleanliness and comfort. The Founders Inn has exceptional service. They have an executive lounge that my daughter used quite a bit. Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the complimentary wine in the evening. They also provided milk and cookies for the kids.

Our building had renovation on the first floor and in order to access the elevator we had to walk through an areas of the halls that were extremely cluttered. Also, we were looking forward to spending time in the indoor pool and whirlpool, but the whirlpool was closed for maintenance and the water in the pool looked murky and unclean so we didn't go […] in. We did use the fitness center in the Spa which had several pieces of nice fitness equipment and the locker rooms in the Spa were clean and looked inviting. The restaurants in the hotel were wonderful including an affordable breakfast buffet. The Inn offers nice little extras like milk and cookies by the fireplace in the hotel lobby (cozy)and access to a business center with computers and free snacks. I liked the colonial decor of the hotel and the rooms. The bed and pillows were very comfortable too. This Inn has a lot of character and I would come back- hoping that the pool and whirlpool would be better maintained though. Mehr

The Founders Inn and Spa has a wonderful ambiance and everyone was very helpful. The room was neat and clean. The spa was a great experience and well worth the money. The outdoor pool was very nice and they had a grill outdoors so that you didn't have to leave the pool for lunch. The restaurant food at the indoor bar area and indoor restaurant was great. […] The only negative, if you could call it a negative, was the air conditioning unit in our room was a bit noisy. This would not prevent us from going back as our stay was wonderful! One of the best experiences I have had! Mehr

very very nice place. Found a deal on Hotels.com for a room w/ 2 queen beds at the last minute, the day of the trip!! Very very pleased w/ the efficiency of the front desk, how nice everyone was. Room was very nice. Only problem was w/ a electrical socket not working. Beds very comfortable, and I have joint problems that cause me a great deal of pain […] when sleeping on a conventional bed, and I slept pretty well. Got the room service breakfast the next morning, food ok, a little pricey and got cold a bit fast b/c it was delivered. Pool and environs very nice. Family enjoyed it very much. Only downsides, cold water not very cold, (for a drink of water) and could use some better signage to guide you around parking areas etc, esp at night. would like to go back and spend more time at the spa and spend more time in the Va Beach area. A beautiful hotel in a beautiful place. I loved the place, I used the restaurant (The Swan Terrace), the setrvice was a little slor but food was good. I also used the spa, great! Anad has the grilled food by the pool. Beautiful gardens!

Everything was fine except the fact that when we came back in the evening the room had not been cleaned.Housekeeping came in the room at 6PM and asked if we needed anything but at that late hour what was the point.

We stayed at this hotel on our way to the outer banks so it was a short stay but we really enjoyed it. The kids enjoyed the pool and the room with the free drinks and snacks. As adults we were pleasantly surprised by a free happy hour with beer, wine and apps. Everyone enjoyed the dinner in the Swan Terrace. The staff was very helpful. We will definately […] be back. The hotel looked amazing on the website, upon arrival it lived up to that promise. Thats where things stopped looking auspiciuos. I arrived late, around 11 pm, went to the front desk to check-in. One woman was on the phone witha customer, thats fine; the manager told me that someone would be right with me. I proceeded to wait for 10 min. while the manager […] shuffled papers, and the other kept talking on the phone. Eventually, the manager went in the back to get someone else to help, who incidentaly never came out. The woman on the phone started to check me in while remaining on the phone; kudos to her, boo to the manager. I took my family to the room, was nice, nothing too amazing. The carpet was loose around the walls, and the beds are in desparate need of replacement. One of the two queens was sinking in the middle-Gross! Overall, the room was clean and comfortable. Most of the staff was great. One thing I noticed was that the hotel was really understaffed. We waited over an hour for a Salmon salad, meatloaf and kids mac n cheese. After waiting so long, I tried my dish and sent it back immediately; the food is awful. I tried to eat my sons mac n cheese when he was finished, but it was not very good either. I can say that the breakfast was above average, so they can hang their hat on that. The indoor pool was small, and frankly had a slimy feel. I wanted to go to the outdoor pool instead but they locked it because there was no lifeguard on duty. Thats absurd because the indoor pool doesnt have one either. In brief, I would definitely stay elsewhere next time. Sorry to the majority of the staff, its not your fault. The owners of this place have numerous around the country, one actually nearby where I live. I have been to that property and can say they are not devoting nearly enough resources to this place. Like a lot of older hotels, this was a good news bad news experience. The good news was that the place was clean; the facilities were old, but generally well kept. We enjoyed walking around the grounds in the evening, and also liked the location, which was out away from the beach, and therefore out of much of the noise and the crowds. The staff was […] very friendly, and even helpful to some extent. The bad news was the mattress was very soft, and shook like a cheap waterbed whenever we moved. Also, the toilet ran constantly. We called and asked to have it looked at. Perhaps we should have said we wanted it fixed, since while they may have looked at it, it was never fixed. We ate in both of the restaurants because they were convenient. We were a little disappointed in the Swan Terrace. They were serving a "new menu" for "Burger Night". My burger was served cold, and had to be sent back for the missing bacon, on a bacon cheeseburger mind you. Upon its return, it was not appreciably warmer. (New menu, the server said, bound to be some mistakes on the first night. Chef Ramsey would never have served this food, but then again, he wouldn't be selling cheeseburgers in Virginia Beach in the first place) The Hunt Room, which was serviced out of the same kitchen, was a little better, in that the food was served hot. Overall, it was a satisfactory, but not particularly memorable experience. One, I think, never to be repeated. Mehr
